  • With the help of anti-scam organisations, #TalkingPoint producer Cheryl Tan got hold of scripts used by Asia-based love scam syndicates to execute ‘pig butchering scams’ - a mashup of romance scam and fake investment schemes. These scammers target victims, many highly educated professional women, from all over - the US, Europe, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and more. (Watch: • Asia's Tinder Swindler... )
These syndicates have developed handbooks of psychologically manipulative tactics detailing step-by-step instructions and conversation techniques, to allay victims' suspicions - so they don't realise until it's too late. (Are you the victim of a scam or know someone who is? Email us your story: cnainsider@mediacorp.com.sg)

Looked up the phone number on the internet and … IT CAME WITH A SCAM WARNING ⛔️.

Most good internet accounts have double authentication, meaning you need your phone to have that pin to sign in.

The boss, the last person on my call, who tried to extort money from me, NOW he was evil, and he deserves no sympathy. By the end of the 4 months, I could clearly distinguish the three individuals who chatted with me and the time frames they were assigned to. But you see, I had no delusions that they were one person or "in love with me" the signs are easy, yet hard to spot. These organizations are good at what they teach, I just also happen to have a master's in Mental Health 🤷 The "Boss" he came on at the end, he was very different, different style of writing, which had nothing to do with talking, but more paragraph style, and length etc, he was a fourth guy. I guess they were getting impatient with me, that's when I ended it, I can't be bullied or harassed.
My point, there are more victims, it's the Slave owners, the ones controlling the shots that need to be taken down.

@@NoraDawn You are NOT really a victim if you never sent money. My point is, this type of scam requires creativity and days/months of investment in chatting, that's not something can be forced even if want to for many people. @@livman9095 hmmmm 🤔 I can see where you would think I'm not a victim. And viewed financially you are right. Even though I never sent money, unfortunately I did fall under the spell of the fantasy these individuals spun. I stayed in this "fantasy" with them for almost 5 months,
I actually didn't suspect anything until the end of the 3rd month when the requests for money started. That is when I started to piece the abnormalities together 🤷‍♀️ so at the end of the 4th month I "knew" there were three people by how they wrote and the time frames, and yet I still turned a blind eye 🙄 untill the time when I still wouldn't give in and send money or click into their "bank account" and "use" their money, ....that is when they brought in their "boss" he got very mean. Verbally abusive and threatening.
However, throughout this time I allowed myself to gain an emotional wound, therefore, I've had to forgive myself, as well as morn the loss of a relationship that never was. Truth be told, even though I do not know who those three were, I enjoyed the conversations I had with them, the first guy most, and I do miss that and I wish them well. I do not know the circumstances that they are in to cause them to live such a life. Therefore, I do not judge their actions.
So in an emotional area I call myself a victim, maybe a victim of my own making, but there it is 🤷‍♀️
May your days be bright 🌞

Scammers can affect families, not just individuals. My dad got scammed and we lost the last of our savings after he had been laid off from work. I will never forget how we lost all hope for the future following that incident, caused by three selfish men preying on a desperate family man trying to make things work. We are still struggling to get back up on our feet after that incident so what I will say is, be very very careful out there folks. if someone is praising you for skills you know you don't possess and offers you inexplicably large sums of money, there has to be a catch. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

I think if you're feeling very vulnerable, you don't have good support around you, maybe don't go searching for love in unknown places. You can't avoid social media all the time, especially not as the world moves more and more technological. There are scammers in these comment section claiming they can help to retrieve your lost money! You don't avoid going outside because murderers exist. A love scammer is even easier to avoid because it's entirely dependent on how much you're going to fall for. I have been approached by a scammer but it was very obvious that they were disingenuous, because they claimed that I was their dream girl when they barely knew me. Someone who's exchanged a few chats with you doesn't know you enough to love you after a week and someone who loves you certainly will not ask you for money before they even meet you. Finding true love is rare POINT BLANK PERIOD. It's important to not fall for the idea of what you want, and actually step back and think about what you're doing. Whether it's a foreign scammer or the person in front of you that's manipulating and abusing you

Not very related to real life, but I was once scammed playing an online RPG that I’ve played for 3 years. This player and I exchanged chats for around a month, and one day they suggested I download this mod program to help me gain in-game currency faster. He even explicitly tried to convince me the program was not rigged with a bug. I downloaded the program, it didn’t work, and I brushed it off. Hours later, my entire account was deleted for no reason.
