  • There were only 80 reported cases of banking-related phishing scams in Singapore in 2019. But that number surged to 2,237 in 2021. How are scammers gaining access to our bank accounts and emptying out our savings? How difficult is it to spoof a bank SMS? Talking Point host, Sharda Harrison delves into the world of cyber criminals to investigate and uncover ways we can still safely bank online.
Editor’s Note: Since the release of this programme, DBS Bank says it has verified that the scam victim Nadya’s SMS OTP and digital token were successfully authenticated for the purposes of online banking login, adding of payee and outward transfer of funds.

Facebook and Instagram all full of scam ads. Reporting them doesn't do a single thing, while Meta Corp happily receiving revenue from scammers.

Many simple apps have permissions to access your camera, read your sms, read your contacts. Keyboard apps need internet access? But they are top rated with millions of downloads.

You have no idea how international these scammers have become.
Even South African banks struggle with them, and they just tell you to close the Account and move on.
The Banks refuse accountability to a point they blame your own negligence.
Money really does go out of the country meaning the bank can't really reverse that transaction.
Its so painful thinking I love my online international shopping and in one of the good days, I might be next.
