All kidding aside, the camera is completely horrible. The view is way too wide and warped, and dark. I eventually got used to it enough to let it out a little and fly. I'll be looking for a way to mount a Ratel or something in this tiny thing. Thanks for the info, Nick. This thing and I are destined to be buddies.
Nick you made a great point on customer support - Emax is the only hobby fpv quad manufacturer that actually provides the level of support (perhaps expected nowadays) similar to that of commercial brand name electronics.
I received a Tinyhawk S with a bad ESC. Had to jump through some expected hoops to get a replacement. When I had done my part they were out of stock. But the customer service rep then went around the office looking for a new model and found one to send me. An incredible “going the extra mile” gesture on their part on my behalf. Was really blown away by Emax support!
Im a Top mounted person by heart!!! i hated bottom mounted just because of how i broke more batteries through bottom mounts. I know batteries are cheap but id like them to atleast last. I also kinda feel the weight at the bottom even after tuning.
Love the flight time. My freestyle frame is the acrobrat and it get a whopping 2min on a 650 4s and a anti climatic additional 30s with an 850 4s. This would be a good freestyle trainer.
I just built an acrobrat with Emax RS1606/4100kv motors,and a caddx tarsier. I like the tarsier, but man are the 1606 motors power hungry. I wanted the 3d parts is why I went with 1606 motors, my dry weight is 210.5 grams, and with an 850mah 4s a whopping 316.7, with the high kv and a 3s 650 its 264.2, and a 450mah 4s 265, but the 450 can be done in like 30 to 45 seconds. I'm still working on my tune, will be posting something soon. I would like to hear about yours as well.
@@RCOverKill so I managed to get mine at 250g with the 650 4s. I am running the mamba mini stack and some very light but very power hungry rotorgeeks 1407 4000kv. Ill try the new gemfan 3028 and maybe set the throttle limit around 85 and see if it improves the flight time. My tune also sucks, need to work on it. Ill edit videos at some point and post them. I'm running the mini mamba mk2 stack(I had this board memorized, then they put out the mk2 version, and the pads are different than the mamba mini I been using)a caddx tarsier, tbs unify, an xm+, and about 15 to 20 grams of 3d prints. the 3d parts seem necessary on this build to protect the frame, and for antenna mounting. I have never seen a battery go so fast, I can take off, do a 2 second punch out, and it's saying land now, it recovers, but I'm wondering why are these little motors so hungry, because the power trade off just isn't there in my opinion. Mine is fast, but not as fast as I think it should be. Anyway I can talk about my addiction all day long,lol If interested my Instagram is Papadoc_fpv I can post more if you like, I'm proud of this build even though it hasn't worked out as far as speed, and flight time, but the tarsier takes nice video , and has a clean fpv feed for 99.00 dollars.
The camera + vtx is pretty crappy as in all Tinyhawks. There should be 100mw at least, possibly 200mw optimal and the quality of video/focus is not really great. This camera mount Emax uses is also sorta crap and outdated - shakes, disassembles in crashes etc. which is strange as so many great 3-d printed parts already exist for this sort of the frame. I wish they would finaly move on to a cine-whoop style HD camera and try to solve the issues there. This 2x1S solid pin connector is really interesting as it resolves some of the problems from the past. There is actualy a other-way solution for this with xt30 pigtail on board and a connector xt-30 to 2x1S bat. They should have provided something to keep the batteries in place - a velcro or maybe a sticky pad. The props are really aggresive for this build. We should try the well known Gemfan Hulkie 2040 3-blades or even 2035 4-blades which I found great. There are also HQ bi-blades thay should work great in this setup.
AVAN RUSH? Those props are incredible on 1103s. Crazy smooth and quiet. Seems a solid build. I'm not surprised Emax threw out a quality build for this arena - they don't release prematurely. $100 is a pretty fair pricepoint for this, especially given it seems everything on there can be moved to a ducted frame for the winter months (for those of us who have them). I'd say this is a good entry for them. I do think they'd have done well to make this 3s capable, but it's not really necessary, as you showed with your flight I do think this would be faster on biblades. AVAN RUSH props are great for smooth/controlled flight, but are a bit slower due to surface drag (they're big and heavy).
yes, the weight of the prop limits the response. I tried to tune it up, but found I couldn't make improvements....went back to emax stock. Moving to a ducted frame might be a challenge with the new motor mounting spacing. :(

Emax has been in my top line up for select parts the last 3 years.. love the emax 2306 2400kv motors also the rsii 2306 1700kv for 6s😊👍👍.. Those are work horses that don't die.. their fcs,escs and other components are really hit and miss..

This Tinyhawk freestyle looks like it really rocks those 1s sticks nicely, though. Would be nice to have an adjustable camera angle on it, though, as I've become addicted to the speed of the high tilt cameras

I really like this little Quad! I fly a bigger area than you do, so I wish they would put out a pro version or whatever they want to call it, imo a 50mw unify, an XM+, and something like the runcam racer would be nice. I would pay for the difference myself over doing the mod myself. I live working on quads, but a 20x20 board is as small as I want to work on, I'm 56 and my eyes aren't the 20/20 I once enjoyed. Lol BTW, I'm ready to race you in your backyard, The Emax rtf quads fly much better than any other bnf I've tried. Are there other brands that flys as well? ah now I understand the last race comment. sorry, timeline is all messed up going with the newest comments first (how youtube back end handles it). I thought the diatone 229/cube was a really good one, felt really good on the sticks too. The hx100 is another, not the rocket the diatone one is but very good too.

I expect the frame to be solid, the width between the standoffs limits camera options, this one only fits if the flat side of the standoffs are just right.

In my opinion, no I don't think it will fly well on 1s. Even with a new tune. The motors need the power to spin those props, they are big and heavy for this size of motor. It might be ok or boarder line okay on 1s with 65mm biblades.

Saw a whole list of Emax reviews today, clicked on yours first! I think it was a smart move on their part to stick with the 2X 1S battery setup. It's a natural transition for people who had already invested in a tiny hawk. If the frame is durable enough to hold up to crashes well, I could see this being a really fun micro. Nice review as always! Update: just checked the price and now I'm really torn on which way I'll go. I was just about to buy one of the BetaFPV 85 pro 2 quads, but I might have to go this way instead. Is there any chance you might be able to do some flights on the tiny whoop 333 mah batteries to see what the average flight time ends up at? With 2.5" props it might even be able to handle a 4 pack of those. 2 sets of 2 in parallel for 2S 666 mah.
I can do some flights with those batteries. I am out of town until Monday, so sometime after then. My guess would be if 2x450mah is 4:20, 2x333mah will be 3:10, with a bit more agility, and a bit less carry.
I hope you do a vs. Video with this against the betafpv 100x, it looks smaller and better to me, disappointed with emax on this quad, looks so big when compared to the Mob7 as l look for something l can fly anywhere and not make people upset, other wise l just fly a sub 250 3inch.

Hey Mr. B. have you tried placing one 1S on top and one 1S on the bottom just to see how the battery weight being distributed both top and bottom improves or changes that flight characteristics?

@@NickBurnsFPV Actually a pretty positive, I fly only sub 2.5", and these things are getting better and better. I really don't see the point to build one of these anymore by myself. That's actually more expensive than just getting a bnf. Got some fresh new quads and a pair of goggles are on my way, I'm almost 100% happy right now. See ya!
We use the radio in the osd to manipulate the vtx. To get into the osd go left stick full up and middle, right stick full right and middle. I think that’s it, been so long I just do it without a thought 🤦♂️
I think the sensor is lose. I showed emax prior to the release, they didn’t see it...thought it was fine. Now they see it 🤪. Cam is sold and lens too. Must be the sensor

My fiance worked on mother's day week and weekend and I was working as well, my last job at wise auto kept my last paycheck and her boss skipped the country (being extradited from Canada now that she's been found) and that's only about 20% of everything that has happened. On July 11th I also got in a car wreck that caused my car to flip my seatbelt didn't lock and airbags didn't deploy. I honestly don't know why I'm still here. FPV was one of the few things I could do to really get away from all the stress. Selling my x9d+ se with r9m module and goggles really hurt. Sold them both for 300 dollars. I am pretty sure the distance between the standoffs isn't 14mm. I would be surprised if its much more than 9mm height might be 14mm. I will need to check.

yep. I sent a sample to emax, they didn't see it and thought it looked fine. Today they see it. Camera is secure, lens is secure, something else is wrong.

Are all the parts replaceable? Especially the ESC because Emax has a very popular habit of only selling the ESC with the FC and that just leaves me with a bunch of FC and no ESC.

I don't think it will bind with the x9 lite, as it doesn't support d8 mode. I have been sold many have this working on d16 mode, which is available on the x9 lite, but might require an update. No I don't think the 520 batteries are to heavy, the quad handles it very well.

on the x9 lite, I believe the 9x lite ships without the ability to even do d16 mode, but they have added that with a recent update. I would check out update videos on youtube, its safe and not terribly difficult.
I am told the primary market are those that have a TinyHawk, or first micro quad. Lop that sucker off and xt30, I wonder if the cap is to compensate for them expecting experienced pilots to move to xt30.

yes, but it doesn't come with the jumper we would need on the open plug. We would have to diy a jumper to run one battery. Or cut off the stock battery connector and put on our own.

acrobrat is heavy and a tricky build from what I have seen. I think the design was towards steady cruising flight without jello

yea, we are limited to the two angles slotted in the carbon. But that doesn't mean you can't make you own "slots".

@@NickBurnsFPV I think it will be very popular.... In my opinion they almost nailt it the only thing that I would like to be better is the camera and at least a 200mw vtx. Because it's quite fast for a little 2s iam quite impressed. Maybe that little eachine vtx with smart audio only what cam to not mess up the weight 🤔
With such long flight times I love flying this little guy around the house with rates turned down on 2s but if only there was some aftermarket option perhaps to add prop guards, anyone have suggestions for ones that may work?! Thanks in advance!

I haven't tried the phantom, seems the stock was very limited on those. Or maybe geprc doesn't like me :( I might just buy one :)

yes, I didn't test, one side of the battery connector would need to be jumpered to run on 1s. Or the battery led changed to 1 ph2.0 connector.

In my opinion, no I don't think it will fly well on 1s. Even with a new tune. The motors need the power to spin those props, they are big and heavy for this size of motor. It might be ok or boarder line okay on 1s with 65mm biblades.

I don't think taller standoffs will help all that much. The distance between the standoffs is really tight for the fairly narrow cam board it has now.

Saw a whole list of Emax reviews today, clicked on yours first! I think it was a smart move on their part to stick with the 2X 1S battery setup. It's a natural transition for people who had already invested in a tiny hawk. If the frame is durable enough to hold up to crashes well, I could see this being a really fun micro. Nice review as always!
Update: just checked the price and now I'm really torn on which way I'll go. I was just about to buy one of the BetaFPV 85 pro 2 quads, but I might have to go this way instead. Is there any chance you might be able to do some flights on the tiny whoop 333 mah batteries to see what the average flight time ends up at? With 2.5" props it might even be able to handle a 4 pack of those. 2 sets of 2 in parallel for 2S 666 mah.
I can do some flights with those batteries. I am out of town until Monday, so sometime after then. My guess would be if 2x450mah is 4:20, 2x333mah will be 3:10, with a bit more agility, and a bit less carry.

I hope you do a vs. Video with this against the betafpv 100x, it looks smaller and better to me, disappointed with emax on this quad, looks so big when compared to the Mob7 as l look for something l can fly anywhere and not make people upset, other wise l just fly a sub 250 3inch.
The freestyle will be more durable. The hx100 will out perform the freestyle. The hx100 has a better camera and vtx as well

Likely faulty battery. I have run batteries so low I thought they were dead, the charged normally :)
Hey Mr. B. have you tried placing one 1S on top and one 1S on the bottom just to see how the battery weight being distributed both top and bottom improves or changes that flight characteristics?
I have not. I believe we would need to create a wiring harness. Neither battery lead on this size of battery is very long.

I think one barrier is the motor mounting pattern, the THS motors and Freestyle don't match.

The T8SG will bind to just about anything, DSMX, Flysky and Frsky
How are the props? Do they break easily or this that unbreakable bit bending plastic?
They are pretty hardy. I actually worry more about the prop stiffness causing motor damage.

@@NickBurnsFPV Actually a pretty positive, I fly only sub 2.5", and these things are getting better and better. I really don't see the point to build one of these anymore by myself. That's actually more expensive than just getting a bnf.

We use the radio in the osd to manipulate the vtx. To get into the osd go left stick full up and middle, right stick full right and middle. I think that’s it, been so long I just do it without a thought 🤦♂️
See a lot of wobble/ vibrations? Tune or cam loose?
I think the sensor is lose. I showed emax prior to the release, they didn’t see it...thought it was fine. Now they see it 🤪. Cam is sold and lens too. Must be the sensor
Can you change the camera to a run cam nano 2 without changing the vtx or antenna?
you can but mounting the camera will take some creativity as the nano 2 is a larger camera that doesn't natively mount.

My fiance worked on mother's day week and weekend and I was working as well, my last job at wise auto kept my last paycheck and her boss skipped the country (being extradited from Canada now that she's been found) and that's only about 20% of everything that has happened. On July 11th I also got in a car wreck that caused my car to flip my seatbelt didn't lock and airbags didn't deploy. I honestly don't know why I'm still here. FPV was one of the few things I could do to really get away from all the stress. Selling my x9d+ se with r9m module and goggles really hurt. Sold them both for 300 dollars. You probably know me on Facebook. Randall Hughes but I don't want the world to know how far I've fallen that's why I haven't been active at all on FB. I thank you for asking. I've always loved your in depth videos and many things I bought were due to your reviews. Keep up the great content.

Hey guys has anyone actually measured the size of the height,width and depth of these cameras? Can't find anything on Emax's site or anywhere else..

I am pretty sure the distance between the standoffs isn't 14mm. I would be surprised if its much more than 9mm height might be 14mm. I will need to check.

yep. I sent a sample to emax, they didn't see it and thought it looked fine. Today they see it. Camera is secure, lens is secure, something else is wrong.

I wonder if the sensor in the board is floating around or at least able to move.

freestyle is much faster and better overall performer outside. Most "whoops" would be out performed outside by this category of quads.

Are all the parts replaceable? Especially the ESC because Emax has a very popular habit of only selling the ESC with the FC and that just leaves me with a bunch of FC and no ESC.
no, the flight controller, esc and receiver are all one board. About 50% of this category is designed this way.

Hi, great video.I will buy this quad, two thing come in my mind.Can it bind out of the box with frsky taranis x9 LITE? And aren't these GNB 520 mAH HV batteries too heavy, because stocks are 450?
I don't think it will bind with the x9 lite, as it doesn't support d8 mode. I have been sold many have this working on d16 mode, which is available on the x9 lite, but might require an update. No I don't think the 520 batteries are to heavy, the quad handles it very well.

on the x9 lite, I believe the 9x lite ships without the ability to even do d16 mode, but they have added that with a recent update. I would check out update videos on youtube, its safe and not terribly difficult.

The specs say it can do d16. Last I looked at the x9 lite frsky firmware updates d8 required a multimodule.

No, d8 mode is not currently available on new the frsky radios. We would need a multimodule to add to that radio

yes, but it doesn't come with the jumper we would need on the open plug. We would have to diy a jumper to run one battery. Or cut off the stock battery connector and put on our own.
