  • The Tyler Residence by John Lautner is a mesmerizing sight from the street below. A cantilevered living space with walls of glass and wood paneling set amongst the backdrop of greenery is a sight to be seen. Some may consider Peter Tangen to be a lucky individual to call this his first home, Two years after ownership he started a full blown restoration to maintain, preserve and update the home. This is his love story of a nearly 30 years.

    I’ve said this many times before, and will continue to say it.
    Right now I’m compelled to say it again.
    John Lautner was, without a doubt, the best residential architect that ever lived.

  • @HistoricHomePlans
    @HistoricHomePlans ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Lautner was certainly one of the great designers of his generation. He started out as an apprentice with Frank Lloyd Wright when Wright was doing his southern California homes. He clearly learned Wright's lessons and made them his own.
    It thrills me to see this house in such pristine condition. It doesn't look as if it's been restored. It looks as if it was miraculously preserved in its original state.

    Me ha impresionado la belleza de la casa y he disfrutado mucho el video escuchando al propietario. Pienso como él respecto a que la arquitectura y nosotros, cuando hemos conectado con una casa, interactuamos para dar lo mejor. Una casa que se respeta y se cuida, cuida de nosotros por el vínculo experiencial que se crea. Amo la arquitectura. Creo que los ambientes de espacios internos y externos del lugar que habitamos por elección nos aporta vitalidad, serenidad y creatividad..., gracias por compartir tan magnífico trabajo.

    Never knew much about mid-century modern until I bought one in NC. I'm just about ready to pour money into this house for exactly the same reasons that Peter described! I live in an HOA where I have to run everything I do by them first but I think they understand that what I want to achieve falls in line with the natural beauty that the house is surrounded by. Nestled in the town of Brevard in the Connestee Falls development, the house was built in 1972. It has many MCM characteristics. Open floor plan, vaulted ceilings, wood beams that extent through to the outside, trapezoidal windows two fireplaces and so on. The house is situated at the top of a hill at 3100 feet above sea level surrounded by hundreds of acres that are in the community preserve. The surrounding area has several national parks including DuPont National where most of the waterfall scenes for the movie Last of the Mohegan's was filmed. We are also 20 minutes away from the SC border. Let me know if you want to see this home. TY

      I believe so … Lautner’s attitude was always more focused on the actual, practical implementation of Wrights ideas of organic architecture. Lautner, Jim DeLong, Schindler and Harwell Harris (even though he never worked under Wright as an apprentice) really understood the concepts of indoor/outdoor, Wright being the catalyst and springboard for such amazing houses. Bravo!
