  • In the 1950s, Dr. Carl Kenneth and Agnes Branch Pearlman sought a holiday retreat, drawn by their love for the arts. They settled on Idyllwyd, a charming community, to build their family getaway. Discovering a challenging parcel of land, Agnes enlisted architect John Lautner to design the home, as other architects were either unavailable or uninterested in the site's complexities. Inspired by the round table in the main living area, Agnes envisioned an organic architecture that seamlessly blended with the lush surroundings.
Constructed over a year by Nancy's brother, the home became a cherished gathering place for the Pearlman family and their guests, who reveled in art and creativity amidst the Idyllwild landscape. Following her parents' passing, Nancy took on the responsibility of preserving and sharing the home, hosting yearly gatherings to honor its legacy.
Nancy hopes that The Pearlman Cabin will endure through generations, a testament to her family's enduring love for art and nature.

My parents knew your parents. It’s a great house. Lautner was a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. Ken Kellogg also worked under Wright. He designed the Chart House down the street and my parents house above High Castle. Your house is terrific.

Thank you so much for filming this and to Nancy for allowing us all to see such a special, beautiful place. Her laudable efforts to preserve it haven't made it feel stuck in the past or museum-like. It really feels like a warm, artistic, lived-in home but one with exceptional qualities and in an exceptional setting. Just lovely.

this is what true architectural preservation looks like. somebody who cares about integrity and fights for whats right, not what's the "cheaper option". keeping architecture true to form is expensive but its worth it because you are preserving history.

and often times especially in mcm its not that much more expesnive because they of course used more accessible, sturdy and most likely cheaper materials to begin with - i just wonder where to get ppl that still can do it the way it was done, are there still mcm(-inspired) builders/architects around?

@foxwilliamulder. The hypocrisy at its finest. How could you know what '' true'' architectural ''preservation'' looks like? You are so biased. By the way I doubt you know her personally. You are just watching a video on TH-cam. You absolutely know NOTHING about what really happens behind the scenes. It seems that you do think that people are ''real'' or ''true'' when it suits you.

Great house, and good on you for preserving it so well! I was born in Idyllwild and spent the first 7 years of my life there. Was a very different place, then, although your house was there and I never even knew about it. Wish I had!

What a fantastic home, I love the big windows combining the interior house with the woods. Must be magical to live in there.
One thing that bugged me: if you get such an extraordinary house just for vacation and even have superb looking oil paintings done of yourself, you aren't middle class. I wonder why so many upper class people take shame in "admitting" it.

Love her take on the original design being kept, it's got me wondering if an original design aspect is structurally faulty, should it be changed for the long lasting sake of the house? So that money doesn't have to be thrown on it to fix every time the fault appears which is likely to be a lot over time?

For such a valuable house, I'd think there'd be a little more clear space around it to protect it from wildfires.
