    I was expecting something more like the RX 580 8gb to take on the 1630(which I didn't even know existed until this video), but then I looked at the prices. 580s are going for under $100 on Newegg.

    • @devilmikey00
      @devilmikey00 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      They are also 6 year old cards that were a rebadge of a 7 year old card. Unless you can get one virtually free, buy something newer. The 580 is old enough that driver support will end sooner rather than later and on newer games, even at 1080p, you'll have to start making some really heavy graphics option cuts to get 60+ fps.

    • @sakaraist
      @sakaraist ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@devilmikey00 I woudln't be so certain, there's AMD cards 5 years older than the rx 580 that are still getting support. I tossed my old one in my work computer and it still smashes, Particularly thanks to the ridiculous overclocking margins you can get on some of them. If high graphics fidelity is what you want, rather than stable FPS a budget card really isn't in the books for you any way.
      I just checked out of curiosity too, the cheapest card with 8gb new is ~$400 CAD, aside from the a750. If you're on a budget, there's still not a better current price to performance card. While I would recommend say, a 6600/6600xt over one as a cheaper card, you won't be finding one of those for sub $50 like a 580.

    • @EbonySaints
      @EbonySaints ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Sakara123 At $250 or the equivalent in CAD, I'd be willing to give the A750 a chance, but it would probably be because of the slightly better feature set rather than raw gaming performance since I have a 12th Gen system. If they kept that PAX offer and just made it $225, then it would be no contest for me personally. I think that both are decent choices compared to what Nvidia offers unless you absolutely need CUDA.
      Also, didn't the 300 series get axed a while ago in terms of official driver support? I personally wouldn't mind a cheap 580, but seeing as how it's starting to have some issues with certain games like Forspoken (I know the game sucks, but the point still stands.) in terms of DX12 feature support, I don't see the 580 as ol' reliable as it was from 2017-2022.

    • @EragoEntertainment
      @EragoEntertainment ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How? In my country the cheapest used one in good condition is 150€.

    • @Mister_K-J
      @Mister_K-J ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@EbonySaints Though I'm not fully convinced that Intel is all-in on their GPUs, I gotta admit that recent benchmarks after driver updates are impressive.
      Honestly, the fact that the 580 is *just now* starting to have issues with new titles says a lot. As does the fact that most of those issues are more down to terrible optimization than anything. For a budget rig or a "baby's first PC build" kind of thing, you could do a LOT worse for more money. And to be fair to AMD, they seem to know that continuing support for older hardware is great PR, so the 580 might have a couple more years left in it. Though with how things are going it might not matter when you need a goddamn terabyte of VRAM to run anything properly.

    "Buy used" is a great tip in general when it comes to gaming hardware. One thing is to go to the seller in person and test things out on the spot, maybe go with a seller to check with proffesionals. If seller has a problem with that, look somewhere else, but the market is very saturated and it's quite easy to find a good deal. I got brand new laptop with rtx3060 for literally half of the price, it had no windows so people complained (even better for me, fresh install with no bloat ) and he was trying to sell it for few months so he was willing to let it go for really low. I drove for it 3h total, completly worth the effort. The disc was working literally 5 hours which was probably some factory testing mostly. It's my 4th used laptop and I had issues with only 1 of them and that one was dirt cheap so can't really complain.

      At €80? That's a crazy good deal. They're okay-ish budget cards, about 5% better than a stock 1650, but the real strength lies in dat media encoder.

    • @EbonySaints
      @EbonySaints ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mechenzo They're... okay... I bought one for a budget build/BD ripper. For the latter, it's an absolute beast of a card. You can finish a 1080p BD rip of a two-hour film in less than fifteen minutes with HEVC and AV1. If it wasn't for the 8-Pin power requirement on most of the cards and the fact that Linux support is still a little too iffy for server roles, they'd be the perfect media server card. It's better than buying a Quadro for double the price.
      For gaming, Arc is weird. The cards do best when they're ran hard as hell. At 1080p native low, a ~2800Mhz A380 does about 55 FPS in CP2077, while a 1060 does 70. But crank it up to medium, and the thing trades blows with it. The problem is that it is around ~40 FPS and most people are going to want to try for 60.
      The A770 and A750 are weird too. At 1080p, they lose often enough to a 6650 or 3060 to make you wonder why Intel bothered. Crank it up to 1440p, and then it starts to turn tables. Turn on ray-tracing and 4K, and somehow, the A770 16GB is losing barely to a 3080. But it's at 24 FPS, and not too many people like spending $500+ on a card to get those numbers.
      A lot of it comes down to the *really* bad launch that Arc had. The first few months of running Arc were some of the worst experiences that I had with drivers since the old proprietary AMD Linux ones and those were bad drivers. If they launched the cards in the state that they're in now, they'd probably be a little more popular. But given all the headaches and such, people aren't going to give them a second look till Battlemage. Some of it is due to the architectural design of Arc too. Think of it as Vega 3.0.
      They're also okay at stable diffusion, apparently, but I'm too comfortable with it on Windows atm to try and bang my head at a terminal in Debian. That along with issues with DX12 and Proton with Arc mean I don't like free Chinese cartoon art or freedom enough to make the jump atm.

    edit: And $200 for a used RX 6600? Damn. Back in January when I settled on my RX 6400 ($200 Canadian Rubles new), the only used RX 6600s I could find on this side of the country were $300+. :/ Still, the RX 6400 does all I need it to (Skyrim, Fallout 4, GTA5, Just Cause 3, low-spec indie games) pefectly well, so I'm not THAT chuffed about it.
    edit 2: Oh, and the original part of the comment was at the beginning when the spec comparison with the 1650 was on screen, well before the RX 6400 was insulted at the end. :)
