I believe the first captain of a vessel of this class was Captain Dan Akroyd, a decendant of Dan Akroyd the actor who once played "Doctor Detroit" in a not-so-great comedy film in the 1980s.😁🖖🏼

During my bit playing F.A.S.A's R.P.G. I used this class as a battle cruiser. I gave it a more full secondary hull, moved the nacelle's back a bit, added more phaser emitter's and torpedo tubes. Then renamed it the Athena class after the Greek goddess of combat. It was a fun ship.

I like this ship the overall design can be made to serve a lot of purposes like a medical rescue ship that can transport huge numbers of injured people and it would be stocked with 20 to 30 special medical shuttles in case transporter interference but great job on this video very interesting as always👍🤓

  • @jaspr1999

I can see this ship existing in rescue recovery and rebuilding all too well as, today, there are many countries that have been attempting to have seagoing ships built to do the same thing. Although these attempts have been going on for decades I can see it eventually happening. Were it to actually happen it sure would give this backstory some serious historical clout.
Man, thank you! It always puts a smile on my face to see these as you have a talent for weaving together a wonderful narrative. I hope you have a wonderful one!

    Hello TAS
I find it interesting that you and I have had the same idea, but many decades apart. I used to play Star Fleet Battles back in the 80's and 90's. A friend supplied me with a chart for making changes to ships and their associated equipment and hulls. As well as Engines, Drives, Shields, etc.
I took the Detroyat Class and expanded it's Secondary Hull by about 40%. I had a dozen such ships converted from their original specs and to my own specifications.
Some of the changes... Twin fore and single aft torpedo launchers, doubling the number of fighter craft and pilots (as well as replacements), and the addition of small Industrial Fabricators.
The Fabricators were there for making needed parts and spares, as well as providing (over time) enough parts and pre-fabbed structures to build replacement Fighters as needed.
All of this did come at a cost though, and even with an upgraded Warp Core, no improved speed was possible. But, if one of my Detroyat ships got near an asteroid field, I could 'top off' anything needed in short order.
Once I had the first dozen in service, I created a version that was like your 2nd build ships... mobile factories for colonies and such. I built well over 2 dozen over time, and especially thought I was clever in sending them to systems without habitable worlds to 'dredge' their asteroid fields to provide my Fleet with a source of supplies and parts that, to my enemies, seemed to come from nowhere.
I suppose I could have used the standard Detroyat class ships for all this, but you know how it is... gotta 'tinker' with the designs!

As a future possible follow-up to this video, you might consider the Menahga class Heavy Destroyer from Mastercom Data Center, which was a Movie-era design heavily influenced by the Detroyat Class (I believe it was an all-new class in-universe and not a refit of the Detroyat frames).

Okay, from first glance in my head I saw a 23rd Century version of the Saber class starship with how the secondary hull looks and the boxy section at the back of the saucer - but that is what I immediately saw from first glance, another sort of inspiration for Starfleet engineers to take design aspects from for a quick and easy ship to build especially for war against the Borg and the Dominion in the 24th century.
Another plus for me what I love in the 23rd Century ship designs are the spikes on the bussard collectors, I don't know why but I htink they look awesome on them.
A ships class diesnt have to look as graceful as their top of their line starships, if it is able to carry out the job that the designers want it to do then the look isn't really that much of importance (except in some designs that can be seen as questionable).
The decision of having the class going from a caarier starship to an outpost/starbase rebuild/repair vessel and constructor of new facilities in the expanding territory of the Federation that can defend itself as well, thats a great feat in itself.
This is the first I am actually hearing or even seeing this class of vessel and it looks like a fun ship to serve on

As soon as I saw this design, it made me recall the angular secondary hull, I first saw in the one-off
magazine issue of Starship Design magazine, where the feature article was about Starfleet's attempt at a
"battlecruiser" design that had several design issues, in the ST TMP design style. It was also referred in some tech books
of the day, that no one seems to produce anymore. This is going back at least 20+, possibly 30 years ago.
I'm not at home as I write this so, I can not refer to my archive.
But, I'm sure there are some ST starship tech nerds out there that know what I'm talking about.

I feel like it wouldn't be that hard for Starfleet engineers to slap on a curvy outer hull to appeal to Command and sell more ships, lol. I know you gotta keep to the original design, but I always wonder where these ideas come from in universe. You wouldn't deviate so much from the fleet aesthetic like that.

i think the uss shenzhou from star trek discovery could have been a detroyat class ship if the series had been in the TOS style both designs are quite similar though different the description that the shenzhou is an old ship but still works the it takes where they need it because it fits well with the detroyat class, due to its design of the bussard collector of warp engines it can be assumed that it began to be built more or less at the time when pike was in command of the enterprise, and considering that the series discovery is only 10 years before the original series, it could make sense what I say.

I would like to suggest an alternate design of the Constitution class from the 2009 movie. The design is known as the "Kelvinprise". It's basically a version of the Constitution class that has the design aesthetic of the Kelvin and the rest of the fleet. I have found a few images of it online and I also have a resin model kit of it if you need pictures of it. I think the lore for it could be similar to what you did for the TOS Constitution class. Where the original USS Constitution was completed before the Enterprise but it didn't have the advancements in technology that the Enterprise had.

Starfleet are capable of amazingly fast reconstruction and colonisation if they used their technology to its _fullest potential._
A large ship with a industrial replicator and large enough cargo transporter could build and beam anything - creating a fully fledged facility of any type and then placing it on the surface or anywhere they wanted.
They could build even another Starship in sections and fit them together.
Add in growth tanks and populations can have a incredible breeding rate (and that doesn't include transporting gestating fetuses out of the womb for trouble free birth or even transfer to those growth tanks for the later trimesters) … teenage pregnancies could be encouraged on colonies that wanted to increase populations skinny 16 year old girl : yes, I'm 8 months pregnant, [pats slender stomach] the babies in a tank at the hospital, got IVF of course.
[In the Kelvin timeline, the Vulcans should have set up in a Earth desert and had a IVF program courtesy of Earth's clinics].
Then with holotechnology providing a lot of the schooling and AI monitoring, a small group of people can look after a large number of children.
But that would require re-evaluating the nature of society.

But only they would actually know!

Did you get the chance to read my question in the last video?

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I did, but I dont usually reply to any comments on my Beauty Shots videos as I tend to use those release dates to work my real job, and take some time away... Besides, I didnt see how your question had anything to do with the video that was released...

Seems to be quite flat saucered and undefined a bit. But not all can be winners.

200ish by 100 something meters?? That's not very big for a star ship. Maybe a runabout...

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Huh, that's pretty big actually, the TOS Enterprise was only 288 meters long... The Runabout is only 23 meters long...

Actually it would around the size of the Raven as it was seen in Voyager.

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics

@Incogni-Bro The Raven was only (depending on the source) 90-105 Meters long... So it would be twice or more it's length...
