    Prodigy is Star Trek's clone wars. I was stunned at how good this show was from the start, they've done an incredibly fantastic job. Its not a kids show. Kids can watch it, that's for sure, but its a Star Trek animated series that does incredible things. The writing is exceptional, there's no denying that. The visuals, oh boy, the visuals... truly stunning.

      Which Clone Wars?
      Because 03 "The Clone Wars" is the best to me.
      Okay I'll honestly admit I'm baised because I love the 03 one and didn't like it pulled from cannon (was it?) but anywho, I see the familiarity but this animation is so much smoother and after the story started to get going I was all in

      I agree with what you said except that at certain times, Prodigy is a little too wacky and slapstick--like cartoon for young children. However I think this decreased little during the season, maybe the producers realized that the occasional slapstick antics and hysterics are more a hinderance than a help.

    I can't help but feel like S1 of _Prodigy_ has probably the most satisfying run of all the 'new' shows so far. Both it and _Lower Decks_ were absolutely rock bottom on my list of expectations when they were announced -- hell, I even thought they were harbingers of a much darker, mainstream era of the franchise where it would become almost unrecognizable. But, happily, I was absolutely wrong and they ended up being some of the best Trek in ages, probably truer to the spirit of the franchise than any of the then-current live-action shows. Can't wait to see where they go from here. :)

    • @AndrewD8Red
      @AndrewD8Red ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For me, I was absolutely convinced that Lower Decks would be terrible, and that turned out to be my favourite Star Trek of the new batch, and indeed one of my favourites all around.
      Prodigy was the one I was most looking forward to, and it's the one that I've enjoyed the least... and I'm not really sure why. I think everything about the show is really well done... I can't figure out why I don't like it more than I do.

    • @iamoctonate
      @iamoctonate 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AndrewD8Red For me at least, I thing Prodigy is well put together, but I can't get into it the same way I do the other series either. I think it might have to do with the fact that I can't entirely relate to the characters. I grew up watching Star Trek. I've seen everything, so I can't relate to the characters who know nothing of the federation, the alpha quadrant, etc. I wouldn't say the wonder and awe of seeing the Klingon's warp in to save the day or anything like that is gone, but I would say it is a very different experience for me than it is for the characters who have been isolated in the Delta Quadrant their whole lives and whose perception of the world of Star Trek is more aligned with someone who is just entering the series for the first time (which I think is goal as a Nickelodeon show since the audience is younger and may not have had exposure to ST before).

  • @francissager3133
    @francissager3133 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    So I just finished binging the entire run of the show to date.
    Why can't our live action Trek be so engaging and we'll paced, I will never know. It caters to younger viewers and those who never seen Trek before, while giving enough to keep older sticks in the mud, like myself, and longtime fans engaged in the show. I feel that's a delicate balance to strike, that's rarely executed well, and they nailed it.
    Finally, the music score. Do you know how hard it is to sit in a cigar shop, enjoying a cigar, trying to keep a Captain Shaw like persona, watching a show for younger audiences, and resist tearing up because the musical score hits every empathic fiber of my being? I swear there were times I was like Shaxs being told to eject the warp core.
    I can't wait for season 2.

    1. TNG Alumni will appear:
    -Levar Burton, I cannot see why the host of Reading Rainbow and #1 Child literacy advocate won’t make an appearance especially if there is a lesson to be learned.
    -Michael Dorn, No stranger to VA work, and we love Worf.
    -Jonathan Frakes, Animated Riker has appeared before.
    2. This takes place some time before Star Trek Picard. Could the Protostar Crew encounter Cadet Liam Shaw? (Less likely but hey).
    3. USS Cerritos ship/crew will be seen. Even if it’s a blink and you’ll miss it Cameo.
    4. Deep Space Nine the Station, maybe a few crew members.
    5. Q, or Q Jr.
    6. Discovery Easter Egg (no matter how subtle).
    7. Holographic Doctor (surprised he didn’t appear in season 1)
    8. Neelix, Tuvok, and other Voyager alumni.
    9. USS Enterprise E again, possibly addressing the damage the living construct caused the fleet. Could this be what prompts it’s decommissioning?

This is a five-star admiral, something that is incredibly rare and may not have been seen before in star trek, though the rank does exist. Actually, this was a great summary and entertaining even as a fan of the show. Thanks!
    I'll admit that the first couple episodes were kinda "kiddy" and while I enjoyed them, didn't really pull me in. But then each episode going further continued to increase speed. This show has a lot of guts and holds no punches. I hope it continues onward and hope that it's considered a success by the network.

      I actually compare it to another Nickelodeon show that was "a kids show" but so much more than that: Avatar: The Last Airbender. Starts out a little "kiddy" to hook the kids, but even then, there's just enough there to keep an adult saying, "All right, I'll see how the next episode is," each episode gets better than the last, and by about episode 6 or 7, they manage to hit the point that you say, "Right, I'm hooked, I'm in this *for the duration*!" (The one that did that for me on Prodigy was "Kobayashi".)
      If this show ends up growing the beard in S2 as much as AtLA did, ho boy, watch out, because it's gonna be straight *fire*. (And to think, after watching the premiere, my thoughts were, "Well, that's the best damned Star *Wars* I've seen in decades.")

    Like many, I went into Prodigy with little to no expectations due to the "kid's show" vibe that was presented with it's announcement and sufficed to say I think it's one of my favourite Star Trek shows. Now if only Enterprise would get a sequel/continuation.

    • @ManabiLT
      @ManabiLT ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A lot of fans like to bash _Enterprise,_ but it's final season was _really_ good. (Except the finale, I try to forget it exists.) Such a shame they didn't get to continue on like that.

      Oh, man, an animated Enterprise continuation would be AMAZING. And it could totally show the finale-that-wasn’t as fiction thought up by a holo-novel writer!

    What if thay changed that Starfleet rule? Bashir was a moded and thay let him stay in Starfleet, once his alterations where known and understood. Long before that there was the Una situation(???) but even back at the start of Starfleet, ship crew members not in Starfleet have been alowed to be trained, up to Starfleet standards at the Captain's discretion.

    It was hard for me at the beginning. I, too, thought it was just a "kids show". However, for me, it was more of a lack of information. Where are they? When are they? With the introduction of the Protostar and Hologram Janeway, how far into the future are they, and why didn't a Tellerite know about the Federation? As the series progressed, these were answered, and I was ok with them. The only, nit pick, that I have is just how casual it is now space travel across the galaxy is now. I know there were time gaps between episodes, but as a whole, it was a lot to take in. It took Voyager 7 years. Just exactly how long did it take Prodigy? Was the trip to Federation space shorter because the Prodigy started closer to the Delta/Beta Quadrant border, as opposed to Voyager to the "other side of the Galaxy?"

    People don't think Prodigy is a kids' show because it's on Nick. They think it's a kids' show because the writing, plots, acting, theme, and even the music are all geared towards the 8 - to - 15 year old demographic.
    On DS9, there were Runabouts, which are a real-life class of boat. The runaway, on the other hand, was an obvious play on words to introduce a plot device to make pre-teen boys yell "coooool!!" It served It's purpose and was tossed aside. Kids stuff.
    The show is designed for and appeals to children.

    Dal R'El, according to the board, has contributions from Humans, Vulcans, Romulans (and possibly Remans as there are two different Romulan Logos), Cardassian, Ferengi, Klingon, the Dominion (Vorta?), Species 8472, Xindi, Andorian, Tellerite, Son'a, Breen, Kazon, and what looks like Orion. Plus what looks like a Maquis symbol and a few I can't find.
