    What's interesting about the flaw in the original Constitution II Phaser design and The Motion Picture is according to the novelization Kirk knew about the power source issue. But when the idea of drawing power directly from the Warp Core was suggested he sent a message to the design team explaining why he felt it was a very bad idea. His mistake in the movie was that he assumed the design team had listened to his advice instead of ignoring it

    I always laugh when Picard says that Star Fleet is not a military organization.
    I love Picard, but his naivete on what Star Fleet is (rather than what he believes) can be funny.

    When you see this ship it's funky design is it's own reward. Though small in size but surprisingly good in armerments for a patrol ship. I can see why this ship is to use a phrase small but mighty. Though I think the maranda class is just a more rounded patrol ship in comparison. Honestly if this class and marandas we're in formation and defending. I would think twice bout this. This would be a nasty battle to be sure. LLAP.

    Hello Triangulum.
    I have mentioned this before, that I wrote sci-fi for a trek-based writer's group. In which, the species I created (an offshoot of the Caitian race, but of a more war-like in nature) captured several civilian star ships that were being used by the Humanity First (or H-1) group for piracy and to advance their goals.
    My race, the Kindred, took those ships and deconstructed them, as well as carefully reading and sifting the ship's manuals, to design their own star ships.
    Since the Kindred did not have examples of Tritanium Armor at their disposal, they opted for something they called TAC-TIC armor... An alloy comprised of Tantalum Carbide, and Titanium Carbide (TaC-TiC). The resulting material was at least 32 times as strong as an equal thickness of Titanium, or Titanium-Steel alloy.
    As for their ship designs, the Kindred decided against the general 'saucer' shape of Federation ships, and instead, went with rectangular 'gemstone' shapes.
    A ship like the Wilkerson was produced, but instead of the saucer, it sported a rectangular, 'faceted' gemstone-like hull shape, with the paired nacelles above and below the hull. The upper nacelle was more 'raked', in that the angle to hull ratio was less, leaving the nacelle very close to the upper hull, where 'snap up' armor panels could be deployed to protect it during combat. The lower nacelle also received these 'snap up' panels as well.
    When not deployed, the paneling would lie atop the hull, making for a unique set of zenith and nadir, elongated 'bumps' on the primary hull. Doubling the armor thickness there in the non-deployed areas.
    Deploying the 'snap up' panels would cause those 'bulges' to unfold and the leading edges to meet atop the nacelle (or beneath for the lower one). Armoring the nacelle from the sides, although not from fore and aft. As part of the system, further panels would 'slide' into place along the length of the nacelle to provide coverage. And although fully covered from most angles, the nacelles were vulnerable to direct fore and aft shots.
    On top of all this, the armor panels could not be made as thickly armored as the primary hull, so they offered only around 40% of the Primary Hull's armor rating. Enough to absorb a few phaser hits, and degrade stronger weapon impacts, but not enough to fully protect the nacelles.
    This was seen as a worthwhile expenditure of resources, and although not fully protective, the panels would give the 'Keersang' Class ships some protection during combat with other ships of its own size or even larger.
    The early Keersang Class ships used upgraded Civilian Warp Cores and Nacelles, although later production runs would be fully in line with Federation standards, once the Kindred were in contact with the Federation and allied to them.

    I wonder there are many multi nacelle designs but are there any multi saucer designs?

    • @MrSheckstr
      @MrSheckstr ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Back in the pencil and paper days I sketched out a mass transport vessel that took a constitution refit profile and mirrored it along the centerline of the secondary hull thus you had a two saucer vessel (one dorsal one ventral) with a nacelle to port and starboard.
      The central hull takes a cue from the C5 Galaxy with a set of giant clam shell door aft to open up the multiple shuttlebays.
      The bulk of the central hull is a grid of 25 “tube” decks.
      Deck 0,0 is the central most tube and represents a shuttle craft deck that passes completely through the hull
      Decks S1, P1, D1, and V1 are receiving shuttlebays that are half the length of 0 deck where they merge with 0 right angles at the main junction.
      While the aft ends of decks SV,SD, PV, And PD have aft end doors theses decks are broken up into service and storage compartments decks with an S2, P2, V2 or D2 in their designation do not have forward or aft doors though some make have doors that go through the skin of the cylinder wall.
      There are human sized decks that are the dividing spaces between these 25 tubes that are used for ships systems, crew accommodations and for transferring “passengers “ and “cargo to the dorsal and ventral saucers through the diagonal necks mounted forward of the main junction
      It should be note that these necks are MASSIVE compared to the relative thin necks of the constitution class with their widths being the same as P0S decks at minimum and are a cluster of both passengers and cargo lifts with minimal deck space, but was deck space exists is set up so that that horizontal surface can be either floor or ceiling so that the necks can be detached as reused as either a dorsal or ventral neck.
      On that same note the saucers have mirror dorsal and ventral hard points so that saucers can be either dorsal or ventral attached
      This is because the saucers can operate independent of the central hull depending on their level of modification
      Aft of the necks on the central hull are hard points to dock secondary systems hulls
      But you get the idea

    I'd like to hear a beta cannon discussion on how this class differs in design or role from its very similar vertical nacelle cousin's in the Apollo, Akula, Paladin classes.
    The Wilkerson class seems to get viewed as an off shoot or advancement of the Saladin class yet that upper nacelle screams a lineage to Larson class destroyers.

      Though I do not think ALL the Connies were destroyed, Canon actually supports that they were not, I do accept the Beta Canon idea that the Enterprise was the ONLY ship to receive a refit, with Starfleet building every other one from the ground up! I recall another design virtually identical to this self claimed “kit bashed” model.
    I can’t recall the class name (Apollo I think) where the only real difference between this ship and that, is the twin pylons you used to connect the dorsal nacelle…
    The other ship, seen in both pre refit design, but mainly refit era in the game KLINGON ACADEMY, used the same “neck + torpedo module” to connect the lower nacelle, but the upper was attached via a single central more robust pylon…
    The aesthetic of the triangular layout does have a pleasing feel to it though, so please do not take the comparison as anything negative
    It merely threw me off at first then it all clicked as to why the name didn’t seem to match memory…such a similar design :)

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well this Beta Canon design (as said in the video) comes from the 1985 Federation Ship Recognition Manual, which would predate KLINGON ACADEMY by 15 years... So maybe the designers of that game were inspired by this design or simply stole it... Either way, the Wilkerson Class came first AND it isnt a "self claimed “kit bashed” model" it IS a “kit bashed” model. And as for your memory, now you know the truth of the design! ;) :P

  • @pauldavis3113
    @pauldavis3113 ปีที่แล้ว

    Uhm this is not the Wilkerson. Not even close.
    The design that you, or whomever came up with as the design, improved upon the defunct FASA design.
    Despite the many disclaimers "beta canon" or "kitbash" is not enough as you are taking inspiration from the FASA Corporation Wilkerson Class Federation Ship Recognition Manual page 17, or really just the name and a "kitbashed" history. Hence the stardust.
    The batteries comment was based from the Motion Picture novelization after Kirk ordered phasers to be armed to destroy an asteroid caught in Enterprise's created wormhole. Decker Countermanded the order firing photon torpedoes instead. You should have worked that reference in.
    Kirk instructed Scotty to design a battery backup to avoid another reoccurrence.
    Your design aesthetics are much more in line with the TOS / Motion Picture era than the original Wilkerson FASA design. Definite improvement to the original.

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Stop your whining and complaining, it IS the Wilkerson Class and im not interested in whether or not it meets with your personal approval! It meets the majority, with you being the only one complaining... And if you dont like the story, please feel free to aquire the 3d model that makes you happy, reskin it to 4k, import it to Space Engine, create all the filmed clips, write your own story, record the audio, edit it all together and then put it on your own channel! Otherwise, stop being ridiculous... Just because "you" feel something needs to be included in a story, doesnt mean that I do, especially since ive used that in previous videos...
      Try embodying some of the basic fundamentals of the show you "claim" to cherish so much like IDIC and Respect for others! Your personal opinion and nonsense is NOT constructive criticism, nor am I interested... Got it? And if you dont like being told how it is, then you know where the door is, as no one will miss a fan with your bad attitude! Cya
