    Always make sure to paint right in front of your car with white wheels, if done correctly you'll be pissed with the end result.

  • @BecauseMiata

    That turned out great! The letters look really good too. Let it be known that this tip only works on a 1.6 cover. The NA 1.8 has raised letters, so people tend to sand down the letters for silver letters.

      +Because Miata My motor is a 1.8.

    • @lkkjhg45
      @lkkjhg45 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      The 94-97 1.8's have raised letters. Later heads (99-06) have recessed (like Greg's).

    • @BecauseMiata
      @BecauseMiata 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      TheCarPassionChannel I forget you have a NB engine. So yes you're right, the 1.8 NB engines have recessed letters like the 1.6 NA engines. But if you have a 1.8 NA engine, then yours (like mine) has raised letters. I know it can get confusing to those new to Miatas.

    will I get more horse power painting on a home depot bucket or can I use a lowes bucket?

      Gin-Jesus it's the way that he did it. He was being lazy. he didn't do a good job on his prep work. he didn't prime it. and he painted those parts way too close to his car. that's how it was riced.

      Eastsidegeorgiaboy it can't be rice unless his claiming it adds horsepower ,do you even know what Rice stands for ? I've seen people with 500 hp on their car with paint jobs like this (black and red) on their engine bay

    Looks nice. The NA6 (1.6l) has the recessed letters like that. The NA8 (1.8l) and NB has raised lettering. A little harder, but we have the option of sanding the paint off the letters and having polished aluminum lettering.

    Another option for paint when doing the letters is nail polish enamel. Its usually cheaper than hobby paint especially when on sale, available at every CVS, Walgreens, Walmart ect. It's also available in FAR more colors. Model car builders do this to replace testors sometimes. Just fill the syringe and use just like the testors.

    Very confused. I spent weeks sanding my cast iron brake calipers and even sandblasting them....I roughed them up after blasting and then spent about two hours cleaning and masking perfectly:..I dried them thoroughly and yet the paint came out of the van all thin and watery and it ran off the calipers and didn’t stick properly...I wondered if maybe it was too cold so I put the heating on and got some portable heaters out but no difference...so I used primer first and it layered on a bit better but the wrinkle finish was appalling...is it possible that British cold weather is screwing this up for me???

      There are plenty of people with motors blown from throttle body butterfly screws that would argue otherwise.

    I messed up on one of the steps and injected myself with the paint. :/

    how did that red hold up. seems like it was really thick paint in those.

      The red is holding up 100% perfect. The black is not doing so well, but I also didn't sand the surface of the valve cover.

    Looks awesome! How have the red letters held up to the heat?

    • @TheCarPassionChannel
      @TheCarPassionChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, the motor only has 3500 miles on it, but the letters still look like the day I painted them!

    How does the Testors hold up under that type of heat? I have lots of experience with Testors; just not in a high heat environment. Thanks...

      Generic and Unskilled Typically 3-5% on a 1.6L, 5-8% on a 1.8. That can vary based on the color combo though.
