Robert certainly did acknowledge Maya. Ned has memories of Robert playing with her, hinting very strongly that he just adored her. He acknowledged her, her just couldn't bring her to King's Landing. I'm sure he also supported her. Through Jon Arryn, he made sure all of his bastards were cared for. Even Gendry, who was placed in an apprenticeship and had all of his fees paid for. They even checked on their welfare sometimes.
Varys did that unbeknownst the Robert. He used Robert's kids as backups in case anything went wrong. Robert never paid anything to take care of Mya. He abandoned her almost as soon as she was born. Same with Gendry. Robert never even knew he existed.
Most armies of the North are basically a Freeman and men and arms are the only Calvary they have closest not to worthy of Knights or the northern Calvary Calvary in the dance of dragons a they wrote shepherd pony swords maces clutches dressed in mail with steel caps

There was Justin Rivers who was a bastard between the feuding Brakens and Blackwoods. He just straight up conquered both houses , then pretty much the rest of the Riverlands and gave himself the lastname Justman.

What if osmund is actually the fake name and he was actually a knight working as a spy for aegon it would make sense for him to use a former knight turned sellsword as most golden company men are
Nah, just wouldn’t have a surname. Those surnames are pretty much just used to show noble bastards are below nobles, but above commoners in the pecking order. It’s like how Gendry is just referred to as Gendry rather than Gendry Waters, since nobody really knows his dad was Bobby B.
All bastards not just most with a last name have a parent or parents of high birth. Low born children don't have last names at all in the series. Unless granted one for a service. Such as saving a Lords life. And they are then promoted to highborn status.

Mya probably lucked out here. She has a degree of freedom and autonomy that is rare for any common person in this world, especially women.
