I'm not sure the vacuum pump is to blame. When you disconnect the "black device" at 2:09, you can see about a 1" diameter hole with an o-ring and some oil around it. When I did mine I noticed the o-ring was hard as a rock! I replaced it. Also the hose that connects to it doesn't have a hose clamp. I goes over to the oil cap. I added 2 hose clamps and a new o-ring. I didn't think the vacuum pump gasket was leaking so I left it alone. BTW your video helped me get the job done, so thanks!...Have fun!!!
I’m about to do this myself as well because I can’t really afford to shell out the price for a mechanics time. Any tips you could give me, like how long it took to change, tools needed (planning on using a torque wrench but not sure if hats what/all I need) or anything? I was told the gasket and the o ring both needed to be replaced by the dealership and got Mopar parts for $20 off them, so I will be changing both I guess. Thanks for any help you can offer!
db mcd I’ve replaced quite a few of these vacuum pump with the same oil leak on the side and it always fixed the problem. But inspect everything and verify that it’s the pump leaking cause these things are expensive.
Hey @Brian Balatbat I had/have this issue on my 2015 500 Sport. I took it into the dealer and had to get both O2 sensors replaced along with the gasket for the vacuum pump. My check engine light came back on yet again and I found oil around my O2 sensor yet again so I check the pump and oil is still leaking from the gasket. My question after that most likely unneeded story is, can I just take the pump off and place gasket sealer around the gasket? How are we 100% sure that there isn’t an imperfection around the pump or where the pump is seated causing the gasket not to seal as it should? Is there away to troubleshoot the pump itself? What would be the signs of a bad pump if I placed gasket sealer on and the leak stopped but the pump was bad? Thank you for your time in advance.
@@BrianBalatbat You used a metal razor blade. That can scratch the block and cause a leak. Not saying that was the problem but make sure to use a plasic razor next time👍
@@BrianBalatbat ey, i made a video with my 7 yr old kid, not to good but i will posted anyway and i have another wwhen i first took the pump appart for inspection.. I replaced the gasket between the pump and the engine as well and did not worked. Being experinced with hydraulic pumps and motors, i took the vacuum pump apart. Leakage was comming from the bottom side of the pump. Rootcause of the problem is the seal in the pump it self. The seal goes between the casting and the cover 'housing'. The seal has a square cross section, i do not know the material, perhaps Nitrile since it is the std material for such seal. Pump is not too sofisticated, but you have to know what you are doing. The seal was visibly shrinked on the bottom side of the pump. I think it is due to vulcanization, and it was the area where pump was leaking. Cover vas an "imprint of the seal and you can see clearly the leaking area. I replaced the seal with a Viton O'ring. VITON can resist higher temps than Nitrile/ rubera/ buna. No leakages at least until last night. Pump is made in Europe, i forgot the name of the manufacturer. Incredibly, they sell a seal kit for the pump they made for Volvo, but Fiat
@@BrianBalatbat i have the same issue on my 2013 Dart. Changed gasket multiple times, still leaked. Finally just changed the entire pump. Fingers crossed this takes care of it. I disassembled the old pump and it was full of oil.
The local Fiat dealership said the vacuum pump and o-ring is leaking and also the canister. I don’t know where the canister is located. Does it make sense to replace the canister as well as the vacuum pump? Thanks.
My brother is going to help me with this and he’s adamant about using a torque wrench. Would that be necessary or helpful, or kinda pointless? It seems like you and everyone else says just to use a regular ratchet.

super organized demonstration. thanks
Thank you!
Im not familiar with this engine but does the vacuum pump has to do something with the multiair?
I order my part but it has like oil inside do I leave it or do I have to drain it
Excellent video!!
Did it work?? Just had this happen and wondering if replacing just the gasket will work
What did you end up doing?

Hi, If I can remember I also tried replacing the gasket first but it didn’t not fix the leak. I had to replace the whole pump and that fixed the leak.

Brian, what was your simptom?, was it oil leakage?
If so, By replacing the whole pump addressed thw problem?
Fernando Maya hi, yes oil leaking bad around the pump. Replacing it fixed the problem.
@@BrianBalatbat i replaced the gasket only, leakage persist. I figureout that the seals of the pump it self can be replaced, i will dig on this
Fernando Maya you’ll have to replace the whole thing. I tried replacing the gasket first and it still leaked after.

No need to replace the whole pump
Did it work?
Rosendo Rivera it did not work. The vacuum pump had to be replaced.
Thanks for the fast reply, was the only symptom the leak?
Rosendo Rivera yes it was just the oil leak.
@@BrianBalatbat if just replacing gasket, should I use gasket sealer?

Patrick Courtney just replace the o ring and vacuum pump and you should be ok.
Did you use silicone gasket maker? Thank you
What si the code for the problem?

Thank you for the video, but it did not work. It is still leaking after replacing the Gasket. Thanks
You will have to replace the whole assembly.
@@BrianBalatbat Thanks I did and it is working fine.
