I never though a blast beat could be so happy.
Rui Carneiro I thought the same thing !
see deafheaven.....
I exactly thought the same when I first watched
Deafheaven's blast beats are more of bittersweet than happy
watch more japanese band for happy blast beat pattern
if a cymbal is not moving, hit it.
Djentlemen commandment #1: thou shall hit a cymbal if it isn't moving.
Djentlemen commandment #2: if it's moving, fuckin hit it aswell
@@hogblockula9335 no that's #3. #2 is thou shall hit a cymbal if it's not moving
Djentlemen commandment #4: if thy shirt has no v, you shall cut a v into it.
Gentlemen commandment #5: If you can't get the beat down, just frickin slam the entire set!
fuckin monster man.
Matt reminds me so much of a djent and technical version of Chad Smith haha
yoooo i couldn't place my hand on why he looked familiar!!! lol
Spot on. It's all in his wrists and the way he dominates the kit by almost sitting 'over' it whilst his hands are like feathers. So smooooooth
Aaron Smith eyy you're the guy above chris turners hats in drummers anonymous live videos :D
More like Chad Szeliga
Very true actually
The blast beat to the melodic part makes this song different from the usual arrangement. Out of the box! Great performance!
Patrick James Juplo totally agree
Drum Gooroo lmao someone can't blast
That's what I thought about this song.
lmao
That's how it's played in the recording
2:12 that "t-t-TING t-t-TING" pattern on the ride...
the 2 people I see use that the most seems to be Matt Halpern and Matt Garstka.
It's the Matt Pattern.
Its the Mattern.
jazz pattern
@@izmotions Not really it's more just '1 and ah 2 and ah' and so on
Matt Mingus
thats because they've got double T in their names
Mintern
Meinl is killing it right now, I'm not even a drummer but I love these playthroughs.
so much groove, so much energy.
So much v-neck.
@@johnvincent1823 Keep looking. ;)
AceAutomaton i was just bout to answer that, but then i saw your comment
i love how the cymbals are literally dancing at 3:30
elitists: Blastbeats are for death and black metal only
Matt Halpern: Hold my beer
Matt the drumming monster!
Long live Periphery!!!
I love the way that Matt hangs the stick over the cymbals when it's done to accentuate a cymbal hit, makes it look like he's telling someone off.
Oh yeah, such complete mastery of his instrument, so fun to watch!!!
oh hi Matt
This song has become my favorite within 5 mins .
This song is as deep as Matt's V. And Matt never fails to impress. So much love for this video!!
The Chad Smith of prog metal
More like the buddy rich of prog metal
djent*
what's a "djent"? did you sneeze?
I'd actually compare Gartska to Tony Williams and Matt Halpern is more like Benny Greb
not really, Chad's been playing the same shit for 30 years, all 4/4 simple rock beats, Matt, on the other hand, is very versatile
so much emotion honored to have had some lessons with this monster you rule matt!!
Sean Lafferty I had a lesson with him as well, such a genuine nice and rad dude
This man is easily my favorite drummer. The perfect blend of technicality and groove.
I love his energy and the fact he always finds a groove and dances while he plays
Im amazed by his right snare accent during the blast beat
depends on the context, traditional blasts are better without rimshot
you can tell how much he loves what he does, so much respect to Matt! Possibly the most talented modern metal drummer!
So much groove... and those blasts!!! Insane... He's massively diverse and flexible as drummer. Great stuff.
This was amazing. Probably the best I've heard his kit sound ever! And he made a blast beat actually musical wow... Killer job bro. If they kept making songs like this I would listen more, the singer drives nuts sometimes...
The singer is the reason I listen to Periphery.
wipe0utpuls3 You serious? 0_O God half of the songs I have by them I can't stand his squealing screamo voice.. oh lord.. to each his own though. He's unique I give him that at least.
***** I can understand why you and many others don't like his voice cause as you said, it can be considererd 'whiny'.
But as a vocalist, I'm drawn to what he can accomplish with his voice...he's versatile, has a tremendous range and control and always gives a flawless performance live.
wipe0utpuls3 I give him the credit of versatility for sure. Never seen them live. Matt would be fun to watch def.
Just got my ticket to see them in April + to matt's class before the show, can't wait!
I think half the views are me, I watch this at least once a day it's just this good
Sam Edits same
Matt plays with such emotion and has amazing time and feel.
Such a great drummer to listen to and watch.
tight and clean performance.
His playing is so fluid! And he plays with so much swing
Matt is a king! His gear sounds AMAZING. Drums and Cymbals. 100% badass.
The cymbal work is amazing. Just a phenomenal performance.
I think this guy is officially my favorite drummer
Love it! Great mix. His cymbal all the way to his left has great attack and tone. Flawless performance and REAL feeling put into this.
I love how Matt went from using one tom to five and adding another crash and a splash haha.
Matt seems like a genuine hard worker of his craft, always seeking to challenge himself and grow musically.
I've been watching this video a few times a year since 2016
Best rock drum ever. 10/10 Absolutely perfect. Congrats.
that might be the only blast beat I've ever heard in my life, that sounded musical and actually added to the song. what a great player
This is such a amazing drumming!!!! Thanks Matt Halpern for this!!
His playing flows naturally. Matt is a beast on drum. Amazing performance!
he always looks like he's having such a good time.
dang.
Nathan Piliponis him and Misha often come down with a serious case of "stank face"
2:46 - 2:50 probably my favorite 4 seconds of any periphery song, so groovy!
Or spencers high note after the solo on Absolomb.
So much groove the cymbals can't stop dancing
Just a fantastic drummer, few are this level of entertaining to watch. Great style
Try muting the volume and study Matts technique. This is how you get the best sound out of your cymbals. Regardless of brand, if you hack randomly at em, they'll sound like crap. Beautiful playing Matt. \M/
I mean crappy cymbals are crappy cymbals, but I can definitely agree that technique and paying attention to how you play them and where you place them in your music makes a huge difference in how you sound.
He even has a video up on "Practicing Good Cymbal Technique", that's worth checking out :-)
+1 for this, i practice this and its really improved both sound and care of the cymbals.
One of the first things my teacher taught me when I got to the point where I started caring about technique.
Awesome! So groovy. Perfect dynamic in each note.
You know the blast is deep when everything shakes
This video always gets my heart pumping. Great stuff!
absolutely phenomenal. well done, mr. halpern!
Beautiful.
That blast was freakin great ! Never saw or heard him blast before
I love this chorus so much
Absolutely amazing
What a great drummer, what a great band!!!. Mr Halpern, you're a monster!!
I’m so proud to see this level of musicianship in this day and age. Beautiful drumming
Holy Cow. Matt doing blast beats. That's awesome.
Zyglrox, mate
Matt is just simply the best out there
From a non-drummer it's so interesting to see how the cymbals are played more than anything, and not like the snare as many would think. It's almost if the snare is used for time keeping.
Look at him just cruising along at god level 🖤
The Outro is soooo 🤘🤘 such a masterpiece
Meinl was my favorites. This drummer now is my idol XD he can makes the cymbal "singing"
this is really good Matt thanks for being an awesome drummer! :)
Wow those blast beats were amazing
My nose is bleeding and I cannot closed my eyes and my mouth...😂😂😂😂
I learn my salsa moves by watching Matt smash his cymbals in reciprocal manner
The man in incredible. such flow.
incrível parabéns Brasil aqui 👏👏👏👏🇧🇷🤗🤗🤗
Der hats einfach drauf! Inklusive der anderen Musiker. Fällt mir schwer was anderes zu hören!
Incredible. Nice blast beats too
Hell yeah! Wish this was the actual drum mix on the album \m/
I think I’m the only one who actually likes Spencer’s voice
No !-)
Spencer's voice is wonderful
"as high as an angel and low as a wounded ox" ragtime dandies
I love his voice
I typically can't stand the poppy vibes in my metal but this man does it in a way that speaks to my inner choir boy and I can't stop listening.
I need some of those hi hats! They sound amazing...
AWESOME Drumsound
my god, what an awesome musician
Matt Halpern is so god damn good and I wish I could take some lessons from him.
Eu amo esse vídeo 🖤
wooooww,it's so crazy for the blast beat!!!!!!!
what an amazing outro!! 😊
Excelent drummer !!! Excelent band !!!!!
Who the hell's gonna dislike this? Those people need to explain themselves.
Really interesting take on a blastbeat at 1:43. Almost like he's treating the snare like a cymbal...
Matt is one of the best drummers of all time. I say that as a mediocre drummer... but who can argue that? Long live Periphery.
Those cymbals are dancing!!
Can someone please tell me what Mapex kit this actually is? Can’t seem to find an accurate answer online.
Man that was awesome
the happiest blastbeat in music history
"The way the news goes" was the first Periphery song I ever listened to after they toured with Shinedown and Zach Myers said to check them out. Was ready to turn song off until that "drum blast" (you all are calling it that I didnt know it had a name) and the emotion of that drum part with the rest of the song is what has me now hooked to Periphery and saying confidently Matt Halpern is the greatest drummer in progressive rock or rock in general for that matter. Taylor Hawkins incredible Danny Carey incredible Lars Ulrich incredible but Matt Halpern has them all beat.
that blastbeat never gets old
Ol Matt knows how to make anything cool.
this guy is so good
I was pissed at Matt for how flawless this performance is, but I guess that's the wayyyyyyyyyyy the news goes
How this video can only have 100k views like for real!
Sooooo good
Man... Those blast beats.
amazing
Liked before I even watched the video
He's the man!
This song is such a blast to play and I can't even play if for shit.
Spent the last 30 seconds just watching his left hand make music with those 4 cymbals on that one side alone. #goals
1:43 Matt Halpern made a blast beat groove, now that's...groovy.
Am I the only one here who doesn't know what a blast beat is and just came here to watch some awesome drumming?
I wonder how the ghost notes goes ?
AMAZING!!!
I hope dude can keep his body in tact to play this high of a level for a while
