Their best live show was 1981 in Houston. It was recorded and they all went above and beyond on that one. “ Open Arms “ and “Faithfully “ are two of their best….can’t go wrong with either. But If you want vocal range try “ Mother, Father “ !!!
The concert in '81 was in The Summit which was the basketball/hockey venue on HWY 59 just inside Loop 610. It's now the Lakewood Church. I saw several concerts there in the 80s, inluding Journey in '81.
This is from their "Frontiers" album, which includes "Faithfully" (HIGHLY recommend if you haven't heard it... the ultimate love song, but with Journey's unique touch), and "Separate Ways" (also HIGHLY recommend, but make sure you react to the FULL 5:34 version and NOT a chopped-version. And believe it or not, the Official Video is a chopped-version). This stadium for this performance (Send Her My Love) is in Philadelphia. Another Journey tune I HIGHLY recommend is "Mother Father" (Live in Houston - 1981)... quite possibly Steve Perry's best vocal performance (especially the notes he hits at the end... and it's LIVE!)
Maddy, thank you for playing my all time favorite song! This concert was Saturday June 4th 1983 at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. Total attendance was 91,451, one of the largest ticketed single-show, non-festival stadium concerts ever. The song was on the Frontiers Album after the Escape album.
Yes. That concert was filmed in Philly but that aerial view of the stadium at the end is not JFK Stadium or Philly at all. Any idea what city and stadium that is?
@@paulplourde2690 correct. I had seen several shows in the 80’s there. I think the last one I saw there was the Monsters of Rock tour with Van Halen, Scorpions, Dokken, Metallica, and Kingdom Come. That aerial shot at the end of the video is not JFK or Philadelphia though. I found out that is actually The Cotton Bowl in Dallas. NFL Films shot the Philly show believe it or not so it is probably some stock video they had that they used for end of the video.

Maddy, as usual you’re helping me see things with fresh eyes and innocence. This is the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, July 2, 1982 I was there, and there were people in the parking lot. There 83,000 people in the stadium, and Journey was headlining a concert with Blue Oyster Cult, Triumph and Aldo Nova. Journey was so fantastic that it was hard not to get emotional, every woman in the crowd was crying or screaming with joy! It was phenomenal! The haze you’re seeing happens every night during the summer in LA, it comes off the ocean which is about 25 miles from Pasadena. The haze fills the LA basin, creates a layer that when seen from above looks like heaven. That’s why the natives called it, city of the angels

The official music video for Journey's "Send Her My Love," released in 1983, was filmed at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This venue was notable for hosting significant events, including the Live Aid concert on July 13, 1985. The performance captured in this video is from Journey's Frontiers Tour, specifically a concert held on June 4, 1983.
back in my younger days, I would spend Christmas with my favourite Aunt (Love Her) who I lost to Cancer when she was only 38. Good one, Maddy! Journey was my first ever concert as a freshman in college back in '80. They were incredible live. Treat yourself sometime to their Live In Houston cd. You will love it! 🙂
I’ve listen to Journey since I was in Middle School and I’m 58. This song was written by Steve Perry (vocalist) and the Keyboardist in 83 on one of their later albums. This song was huge at the time. Steve Perry is known to all the professional singers as the Voice. This is why he sang on the We are the World song for Micheal Jackson. This place was at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and the stadium is torn down shortly after that concert I’m 1989. Journey was always sold out. They were huge band for years in the rock agenda. I don’t think history will ever see bands and songs like Journey, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Bob Seger ever again. Only what History recorded will it be saved.
This video is the result of splicing footage showing two completely different stadiums. The main part of the video showing the bands performance along with the interior shots of the crowd was recorded in JFK stadium in Philadelphia on June 4, 1983 during Journey's Frontiers tour. The aerial shot at the end of the video however is actually of the Cottonbowl stadium in Dallas TX. Why did the producers choose to engage in this visual trickery? Perhaps they wanted a dramatic overhead shot of the stadium for the closing scene and had no such aerial footage from the JFK performance, and so they simply thought nobody would notice the difference. After all, a football stadium is a football stadium, right?
I was lucky enough to be at the "Day of Rock-N-Roll" in New Orleans (1983 I believe). Zebra, Foghat, Brian Adams, and finally Journey. Got there at 9:00 in the morning until late that night. The entire stadium was packed - the stands and field. We were standing center stage. When Journey performed, they extended the stage close enough we could have grabbed the guitar from Neal. One of the best concerts ever. Journey was my favorite band, so they have too many favorites to pick just one. But I'd say if you want to be blown away by pure vocal talent, you need to react to "Mother, Father" live in Houston 1981. Steve's vocals in that song are unmatched. It also has some instrumental solos that will blow you away too - guitar and piano (at the end). And the lyrics have real meaning to Steve so the emotion he sings with is real.
Try to do Mother, Father from their ‘81 Escape Tour Live in Houston; this, in my opinion, showcases Steve Perry’s incredible vocal range and he delivers it with great emotion. This was similar to how he grew up from my reading about him.
Thanks for doing this song. Its my favorite song by my favorite band. Soooo many memories, especially with this song. Its like they had me in mind when writing this song..... the love of my life lost because of (in my case) immaturity. This song follows my experience and how I feel to a T! Funny thing is, the girl in the crowd at 1:10.... always reminds me of her too (resembles her). To Anne; you will always hold a GOOD piece of my heart..... forever sending you my love. In case you are interested (and have not reacted to them already), there are some REALLY great songs out there that aren't hardly scratched yet. Music (GOOD music) has had a special place in my heart since childhood..... I have MANY MANY songs I could show you that people would love. For example: TOTO: "I'll Be Over You" Michael McDonald: "Take It To Heart" Bad Company: "If You Needed Somebody" GTR: "When The Heart Rules The Mind" Paul Carrack: "Don't Shed A Tear" Jackson Browne: "In The Shape Of A Heart" Restless Heart: "I'll Still Be Loving You" Boy Meets Girl: "Waiting For A Star To Fall" (watch the original video but there's AN EXCELLENT 80'S MONTAGE VIDEO TO THIS SONG & IS ONE OF THE BEST I'VE EVER SEEN.... you want to get a taste of what the 80's was like WATCH THAT VERSION OF THE SONG) The video is called: "Waiting For A Star To Fall: A Tribute to 80's Entertainment"..... oh and, the woman singing in the original video, also reminds me of Anne!:) Obviously in my case, the song "I See You In Everyone" by Survivor (FYI another great song by a great band), fits to describe this whole comments subject matter.... someone that was blessed enough to find their soul mate, who actually feels that level of connection to them and receives that level back, then through immaturity/selfishness loses them. Trust me, ANYONE that has found their soul mate and then screws it up, KNOWS where I am coming from! Its a level of TRUE LOVE that is simply a level too powerful to forget! Unfortunately, once you've had a connection like that with someone.... well, lets just say its not only a mistake that stays with you (no matter how bad you want to shake it), its also an almost impossible thing not to measure current/future relationships against that NO woman should be expected to live up to! Its kind of like going from a big wheel to a Harley, losing the Harley and knowing the closest you are ever going to get to one again is a motorized bicycle (though multiplied by a trillion)! I just caught what I said (SMH)! I SWEAR I'm not comparing all other women out there to big wheels, its just a way to explain my point that popped in my head so I went with it!:) If it were really in comparison to big wheels and Harley's, there are BILLIONS of Harley's out there and not only am I not a big wheel in comparison.... I'm a tricycle! I'm just trying to say its a mistake that follows you the rest of your life because you want that connection again so bad that you (admittedly unfairly) measure all others by the same yard stick and so you place yourself in a "perpetual mistake" in all other potentially wonderful relationships that never even stood a chance by those standards. Only those that have found and lost their SOUL MATE level of love truly understands the seemingly curse of it! To everyone else this sounds like, DAMN DUDE.... GET OVER IT ALREADY, and understandably so. I just wish it was as easy as all that.:) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if any of you have found your soul mate.... DON'T SCREW IT UP!:) Anyway, sorry for the craziness. I just want to say again, thanks for reacting to this song!:) BTW.... YOU ARE DEFINITELY A HARLEY!:)
'Send Her My Love' is from their FRONTIERS album (1983). It was the follow-up from 'Escape' (1981). After this tour, the band went on hiatus for 3 years. Perry released his first solo album, 'Street Talk' in 1984 with hits like 'Oh Sherrie' and 'Foolish Heart' and then band reunited in 1986 for 'Raised On Radio.' Perry cut that tour short after telling the band he was leaving due to being completed burned out from all their years on the road. They wouldn't do anything together again until 1996 for 'Trial By Fire' and, again, Perry wouldn't tour.
Have you heard the song Mother Father? It’s incredible. Listen to live version I can’t remember if it was Houston or not. 1981 I think. Incredible! About Divorce, Steve during an interview expressed how much of an impact it made on him as a child and still as an adult. Also the song Lights (about San Fran) is amazing. Also the song Faithfully!
I saw Jourmey at the Checkerdome in St. Louis a few times and a total of 5 times between St. Louis and Kansas City. I think I even saw them at a Superjam at Busch Stadium. Steve Perry was blasting everyone in front with a fire hose because it was 105 degrees. Fun times!!!
Just an FYI, this is the studio track overlayed onto a live performance. Really nicely edited though, so it's hard to tell unless you've heard the studio version before. But yea, the lives are not far off. Sometimes even better. The vocals and that signature solo on "Who's Crying Now", for example, (from their '81 Houston performance) are phenomenal! The solo is like a minute longer. Feels like Neal is singing his heart out with that guitar. And Steve's always top-tier live. Highly recommend, if you haven't caught it yet. Hands down, one of my favorite live performances of all time from any band or artist. It's the only live performance from them I prefer over the studio, which is saying a lot for me. Studio versions are meant to be the ideal version of the song, so if you can top it live, you're kinda somethin' else.
This concert was in Philadelphia. The Stadium shot at the end was the Cotton Bowl in Dallas 1982 Texas Jam! I was at the Cotton Bowl! Not the one for this video in Philadelphia.
so the pull away shot is definitely the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX. If you type in The Cotton Bowl Dallas, TX on Google and go to images there are lots of images of the Cotton Bowl before (this is key) it was eventually renovated to accommodate an even larger seating capacity. One in particular is a great aerial shot in black and white from the Texas State Historical Association where you can clearly see the main bottom bowl/tier and the 2 upper tiers that do not completely encircle the stadium just like in this video, they're just upper decks/tiers that face across from one another but have endings to them. The skyline you're seeing as the camera pulls further and further away is the Dallas/Ft. Worth TX area.
Maddy baby. You were born in the wrong decade. You a cool chic. The 70s and 80s shaped the world of music. Period. I don't need to listen. I lived it. ❤
I went to this tour in Orlando's(then) Tangerine Bowl Stadium. It rained and nobody left. I still have the soggy ticket stub, back when they made custom tickets for each show(before Ticket Master), complete with glitter on it.

They say in the beginning of the video is from Philadelphia and the ending is from the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Tx! However, I will tell you, that Journey did not play at the Cotton Bowl for the Frontiers tour!! My best friend and I saw Journey for this tour in Houston, Tx. They had 3 sold out shows, which we were at 2 of them! I also saw Journey in 1986 for their 'Raised On Radio' tour and then for Steve Perry's first solo tour in 1994!!
Journey 1982 at the "ROSE BOWL" Stadium in Pasadena, California ! 89,702 fans attended this show.
Steve Perry the best Malé voice ever no doubt about MR STEVE PERRY
70s 80s 90s best rock music years im grateful i grew up.in those years went to so many concerts cant remember half of them.lol
Journey rocks!! 🤟
"Sweet and Simple" will surprise you. Everyone sleeps on it. But Steve's voice is unmatched in that song.
Try to do Mother, Father from their ‘81 Escape Tour Live in Houston; this, in my opinion, showcases Steve Perry’s incredible vocal range and he delivers it with great emotion. This was similar to how he grew up from my reading about him.
Thumbs up!
Concert was in Philadelphia PA - 1983
Another number one for Journey. I’m so glad I grew up in the 80s late 70s.
And the incredible Steve Smith on the drums.
Journey sold out every performance.
Thanks for reacting to this one beautiful! Journey is one of the greatest bands of all time...

This was in Philadelphia1983-
This was from the 1983 “Frontiers” album.
My favorite Journey song is “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)”, also from “Frontiers”.
Your smile shows the appreciation for a fantastic song by a great lead vocalist and a band that really is tight and never misses a note!!!
For example:
TOTO: "I'll Be Over You"
Michael McDonald: "Take It To Heart"
Bad Company: "If You Needed Somebody"
GTR: "When The Heart Rules The Mind"
Paul Carrack: "Don't Shed A Tear"
Jackson Browne: "In The Shape Of A Heart"
Restless Heart: "I'll Still Be Loving You"
Boy Meets Girl: "Waiting For A Star To Fall" (watch the original video but there's AN EXCELLENT 80'S MONTAGE VIDEO TO THIS SONG & IS ONE OF THE BEST I'VE EVER SEEN.... you want to get a taste of what the 80's was like WATCH THAT VERSION OF THE SONG) The video is called: "Waiting For A Star To Fall: A Tribute to 80's Entertainment"..... oh and, the woman singing in the original video, also reminds me of Anne!:)
Obviously in my case, the song "I See You In Everyone" by Survivor (FYI another great song by a great band), fits to describe this whole comments subject matter.... someone that was blessed enough to find their soul mate, who actually feels that level of connection to them and receives that level back, then through immaturity/selfishness loses them.
I just want to say again, thanks for reacting to this song!:)
BTW.... YOU ARE DEFINITELY A HARLEY!:)
she died from cancer recently.
@@mattbecham597 Who did?

Journey awesome my fav song from Journey Girl can't help it
One of the greatest
🎸 . luv - luvvv - luvvvvvv - luvvvvvvvvv this !! His voice . It is just perfection.. legend all the way !! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙊🎼🙊🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Steve is called "The Voice". Nothing else needs to be said. He is and always will be, THE GOAT.
Hey Maddy, i think everyone has a love song from Journey, great band, great songs
I lived it. ❤
This was later Journey. Please listen Mother Father live 1981. I think this was the old JFK stadium in Philadelphia.
Love your channel! Please listen to the song called girl can’t help it . By the way, beautiful hair and lovely smile! I’m hooked❤
Cotton Bowl in Dallas 1983
Thank you, been wondering for awhile where it was at.
@@sgtpepper1138 I was 16 in 1983. It was a hell of a time to be alive!
The big three huge arena rock bands at the time were Journey, REO Speedwagon and Styx. They were great shows.
It’s her voice that keeps on haunting me.. one of the greatest lines in my opinion. The way his voice echos through it.
This song is from their " Frontiers " album. " Escape " was right before it.
I went to this tour in Orlando's(then) Tangerine Bowl Stadium. It rained and nobody left. I still have the soggy ticket stub, back when they made custom tickets for each show(before Ticket Master), complete with glitter on it.
That pretty first girl in the audience recently passed away from cancer. Her daughter posted it on the Journey Official video.
My favorite is, "Still They Ride." Takes me somewhere, you know?
Journey is so badass. Love it and it hurts me e cause i lost my teen age love bout the sane time. Weveere to young 15 and 16 but i got her back in 2014 she found me on . Love u Jill Facebook
What year were you born, and, do you ACTUALLY get this? Just curious..
THIS SONG IS FROM THEIR LAST ALBUM BEFORE STEVE PERRY WENT SOLI. THE ALBUM IS CALLED FRONTIERS.
The man on the piano JonathanCain wrote the song about an old girlfriend he ran into in a hotel ,and that was shot in los Angeles just FYI not being a jerk just so you know merry Christmas
Open arms…..Lights…Separate Ways…Any way you want it….so many
Right at the 1:10 mark or a second later there’s a female with her eyes closed with her hands in the air is the mother of a guy who commented on just the official video without being on this reaction video. He talks about her. Just look at the comments on just the video instead of watching here on this reaction page.
You need to react to Journeys live version of Mother, Father it will blow you away!
This song was written by keyboardist Jonathan Cain. Who said he ran into a friend who (was dating an ex-girlfriend or who was friends with her). Anyway, when Jon was ending his talk with his friend, he (Jonathan) left by saying......'send her my love'!!
Jon said that he thought that would be a great song!!
Send Her My Love is from the 1983 album 'Frontiers', which was a HUGE tour for the band.
I think you'll really enjoyed 'Girl Can't Help It, I'll Be Alright Without You, Mother Father (live in Houston, Tx), Still They Ride (studio version), Ask The Lonely, Why Can't This Night Go On Forever, When You Love A Woman, Feelin' That Way'!!
This was on the Frontiers album from 1983
Yea they just don’t make them like this anymore hu? That’s crazy
Filmed at RFK Stadium just outside of Philadelphia.
This was in Houston TEXAS and they always sound great
I think that is the Los Angeles Coliseum. Steve is the GOAT!
I wish I was there!! I was too young to travel from Hawaii - this is my favorite and it was live
Come Maddy we go for Dinner 🍲 Japanese or Korean or Thai Food is amazing
Nice, but gah, ya gotta let these songs finish fully (5:32).
I’m not sure but have you done Faithfully by them yet?
Send her my love off the Frontier album😮
Yep…..one of the top five male lead vocalist, for sure.
