Maddy, one of the greatest moments of my life was meeting Luciano Pavarotti in 1997. I greeted him, and he smiled and shook my hand. I felt as if I had touched the hand of an angel. He is the greatest opera singer ever. It is really not a close call. As you experienced by the shivers, tears, and joy in a 3-minute song, Pavarotti was able to convey tremendous emotion - much more than just words. RIP maestro, we miss you...
Have you heard every great opera singer? because if you haven't your opinion holds no weight at all does it, if you said he is the greatest you have heard then that has some validity. Most experts would disagree that he is the greatest, very good but not the greatest, not even close really.

Lucky, lucky you. In England, this was the theme tune that they played before every televised 1990 World Cup Game (the tournament was hosted in Italy). It's so short, because it is just one small part (an aria) of the opera Turandot by Giancomo Pucini. It is the song of Prince Calaf, who has fallen in love with Princess Turandot, who has refused many suitors and requires that each suitor answer 3 riddles with a wrong answer resulting in their death. Calaf passed the test, but Turandot refuses to marry him anyway, so he offers her an alternative...guess his name and he will accept death. The song (from the final act) is him singing his bold confidence of winning Turandot's hand.

Music was the passion and the dearest obsession of Maestro Pavarotti for forty years, and he changed the face of opera forever. His deep love and intensity for music brought the opera world to a new, modern place. Nessum Dorms is about an unknown Prince singing a love song to a cold Princess who doesn't know his name; at the end, he sings, "And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!" (Sort of, My Italian isn't perfect these days in my old age)
I love to see you emotional. I see him live with part . Same quality in every second . Best tenor and btw the notes and lyrics too. Thx Giacomo Puccini
So...We finally see the true power of music. Pav was and is the greatest Tenor that ever lived, nice to see you showcase this one in a once in a lifetime live performance! Cameron @Artists Edge Inc
"Big Luciano" (as he was affectionately called), was "The tenor who gave the world Opera music" (in the sense that he made it accessible and famous for all, not just to Opera fans). Many years ago I went to visit two of my cousins from Modena and, walking through the center of the city where one of them had a law firm, I heard the Maestro practicing his vocalizations, because he had his home there, at the city center's square. 🙂 My cousins was involved for years as a volunteer in the events organized by the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation and his wife Nicoletta Mantovani in Modena. Certainly one of the Italian excellences known all over the world. 😎
A brother of mine drove limo for Pavarotti in Minneapolis (early 1990s?). Said he was a very nice and polite man. Almost got to play tennis with him. Didn't quite happen, he didn't have a change of clothes. Famous folk are just people like us, but with something they do really, really well. Sometimes we put them too high on a pedestal.
I saw LP in London, I think in the early 90s in Hyde Park. I was lucky enough to see the other two tenors, Domingo and Carreras, on different occasions. Pavarotti always brought out the most emotion, Domingo I thought was the most technically gifted, but Carreras was always a sentimental favorite. His performance as Don Jose in Carman I will never forget.
Thanks!
❤️

That was one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard in my life
I love to see you emotional. I see him live with part . Same quality in every second . Best tenor and btw the notes and lyrics too. Thx Giacomo Puccini
It’s an aria from a much longer opera, in act two of Puccini’s Turandot.
Oooh
Il Maestro. One of the finest singers of any genre who has ever walked this Earth!
My cousins was involved for years as a volunteer in the events organized by the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation and his wife Nicoletta Mantovani in Modena.
Certainly one of the Italian excellences known all over the world. 😎
I cry every time I hear this fabulous man sing. So much passion
Absolute beauty!
pure passion !
Wonderful to watch! Thanks!
Yes, I also tear up at this performance. My dear, you have heard the voice of the cosmos.

Very glad that I don't know the words to this. Never been so happy not to know a language. It is beautiful
Mi hai fatto emozionare e commuovere...grazie Maddy.
