"I feel like I can't truly separate work and play in a desktop environment anymore" - This! At times this bothers me like I lost a huge part of my identity that's why I'm trying to save for a steam deck and see it from there.
Same problem here. Before owning the Steam Deck I always have this itch to play videogames. I have a PS5 which I rarely turn on because I'm just too tired to play after work. Then I got the Steam Deck which saved gaming for me. Being able to play while on bed and on the go is a game changer for me. It's definitely worth it. However if you play alot of triple A titles, consider getting an Ally X instead and install bazzite to get that steam Deck like experience
For me what did the trick was the steam deck for older games and jrpgs and a dedicated console pc on my living room running bazzite. Now my desktop is indeed only for work ( besides rocking a 5900x and a 6950xt lol)
As a teenager in 90s I'm glad my parents gave me a console for gaming, and PC for homework (mainly lotus and word) sometime I played solitaire and Tetris. I have gaming PC in daily basis im using my PC for working.
Thats why i don’t understand people who scream “PC Masterrace” and hate consoles. Why do people who work their whole days in an office or Home office use the same PC after they are done with work and game on a PC instead of a nice couch and lie down?? I will never understand these people
38yo married with a kid here . Run a small business, part time Uber driver and all the daily family chores made my inner gamer struggle, many times I sit in front of my laptop at night but I just felt tired.... But recently pull the trigger, bought the OLED SD used, never been happy to get back into gaming thru all the little free-time gaps in between. The instant sleep and wake really is a godsent, I always hate all the the wasted time to boot up PC and games.
A little older but in the same situation. I finish most games on handheld both Switch and Steam Deck. I have a fully built capable desktop like your laptop, once I get my work done, I don't feel like sitting in front of it any longer.
@@ArthurVanel never really consider the ally because of it's price tag, and I like black, subtle and less flashy design. It's already a huge device and I don't want it to stand out even more. 🙂
@ I understand. I don’t know where you live, but I bought an Rog ally X second hand on « Leboncoin » for 580€. It’s black, I really enjoy the power, the battery and the VRR I miss an Oled screen 😊 But I think I won’t go back to steam deck now. I ll wait for the second generation. The extra power of the Rog X is really a pleasure. But if I had an SD Oled, I think i wouldn’t get an Asus or LG and would wait for the next generation to decide 😊 Also, steam OS being release officially soon for Rog etc might be a really interesting thing to look into
The steam deck is my only game system at this point. I put all of my other systems in the closet and haven’t touched them in nine months. I simply don’t have a lot of time for gaming anymore and the steam deck allows me to game on the off chance that I have the time. The funny thing is that I tether it to my TV almost all the time.
I personally prefer the LCD model in fact. I can't express my disappointment when I took the OLED and saw Valve made the same mistake as Nintendo: buying the cheapest OLED panels from Samsung, and not calibrating their subpixels at the factory. Basically all OLED Switch and Steam Deck units have a disgusting pattern in the green subpixels that ruins the image on grey or darker tones. Everything becomes noisy and grainy and filled with green.
I'll still never forget the disrespect when Steam revealed the OLED a few months after I received my 526 GB LCD... mainly because of the internal 1 TB SSD. That hurt
@@kadupse YES! I have never seen that in a screen but the noise is so strange I thought it was defective or something. I feel I still have the issue on white/lighter tones, and not sure if its filled with green, its moreso a rainbow static, its ignorable but also just not as good as I would have hoped for all the people raving over the OLED screen. I'm assuming you've upgraded from the LCD to the OLED, because no one is talking about this issue (atleast, not when I watched reviews before I bought it)
Having a Steam Deck helped me separate my work on PC from gaming, and even then it helped be invested in my PC again for gaming, because as soon as I got on my PC for gaming I would lose interest because I am already sitting almost all day in there working, but now when I wanna game I can just pick the deck and game for a bit while laying on bed before sleeping, but as I limited also my library on my PC for more intensive games and with higher disk space required I feel invested again in those too as those are "the games the deck can't run" for me
As a "Windows" PC user for as far back as I can remember, I knew straight away I would NEVER like a handheld PC running Windows. Just seeing previews/reviews of the Ally, Go, etc., and seeing all those updates gave me nightmares(been there, done that). I finally got my SD OLED a few months back as a B-Day gift for myself, and it is truly the handheld device I've dreamed of since back in the 80's. I've always leaned more in to handhelds, as I've always loved the ease of use and the play "anywhere" nature of those devices. I already knew how big it was, and while I thought that might have been an issue, I was more surprised on how heavy it was. Now I don't even notice unless I'm going from a 3DS or Vita, but those now just seem extra light, instead of the Deck feeling that heavy. I set all of the games to 40FPS and on that screen, they all look great and run amazing well, and that is just fine for me(I was shocked how well many AAA games look & run). I honestly can't see ever using any other handheld going forward, unless it is in the deck family, as this device is just so well thought out and then some.
@@MisterUrbanWorld My son has a Quest 3, so I have tried VR, and it was better than I thought it would be, but in no way compares to regular gaming(at least not for me). But my son lives on his 24/7, and the amount of things you can do is really amazing, so I'm glad it exist for those who enjoy it. And for the right price, I could see maybe buying one in the future, but it would be more of a novelty for me, than my main gaming device.
@@chrislaustin I'm a huge VR fanatic, and it replaced flatscreen (tv) gaming for me. I was joking with my reply. You can actually connect the Steam Deck to the Quest headset, and play on a huge screen, so it's the best of both Worlds. On top of this, you can now visit Arcades in VR, and actually play the cabinets like pacman, street fighter, mortal kombat, etc and you can play 3D light gun games like time crisis, house of the dead, etc and they are actually coming out of the screen. I love it
There is something psychological about booting up a game and waiting through 5mins of animations and menus. its like a reminder that you are about to waste your time on a pointless videogame. having auto-resume on the SD has allowed me to finish a few games by picking it up when i have free time and chipping away at a game instantly.
I also had totally lost my motivation to play with my PC or with a console, but handheld consoles are so nice. Steam Deck is so nice and actually enjoy playing older games from my Steam library like Dirt 3, Max payne 3, Binding of Isaac etc. I just can't enjoy FPS games that much, feels like trying to write with my left hand. Aiming with mouse is just so more superior and enjoyable.
Same with me. I haven’t gotten a console since ps3. All I played was iOS games. Until I got steam deck. Brought gaming back for me. Love my steam deck.
for me the appeal is this: 1) bring it to the office and play a few matches with the lads 2) play some classic PC games that never had controller support, comfortably and portably 3) plug it to my living room TV and play all kids of games from the sofa, bonus points if you have a dualshock 4 like me and made come controller configs for some of you favorite old PC games all this without even mentioning playing newer releases such as Elden Ring
I picked up the SD OLED after my PC crapped out and man does it take away the chore of dealing with Windows and puts you straight into Gaming. Reignited my Love for Gaming as I must've completed 40+ Game's of my Back catalogue in the last year.
I feel like picking up a video game and sitting down to play has felt so committal and it's kept me from playing videogames. My steam deck has got me into playing games again since I can just pick it up whenever, launch a game and play for a bit. Now I find myself actually completing games by playing them bit by bit. Also being able to play all the games I loved when growing up in a handheld feels like such a childhood dream come true
Same here. It was the best decision obevre made for an electronic device. My gaming life was completely brought back from the dead because of steam deck
The reason I prefer my switch lite over my SD is how snappy and fast it is. Games load fast and the sleep mode is so reliable and it barely uses any battery in suspend mode. It's way more "handheld" and easy to carry around like you said. I have borderlands 3 on SD and switch and I prefer to play it on switch. I'll play things like halo infinite, street fighter 6 on SD but it's the load times. More often than not if I put a game in sleep mode it will crash and I'll have to reboot the SD itself. Again the battery is a problem. It definitely doesn't last as long as you said. 2 hours max
My grandpas have a super cozy countryside home that I absolutely adore, only problem is, its such a absurd hassle to take my desktop rig with me, I did it sometimes and it was awesome but its so tiring. I can`t wait for my deck to arrive, I`ll be able to spend so much more time with them
Different situation, same problem, same solution. I work away from home 4 days out of the week so I didn’t get time to game like before, getting home I’d rather be with my girlfriend and sitting in front of my computer started to feel like a chore, my girlfriend actually bought me a steam deck as a birthday gift, early this month and it’s been amazing, I find myself so immersed in the games I play on it that I can’t put it down. It has saved gaming for me as well.
Great video. I was on the fence all week and said f*ck it and bought the 1TB OLED today. I am so excited. Have you checked out streaming from your PC with Sunshine/Moonshine or whatever it is? I've heard people get great results with that and it's something I am going to check out pretty early.
I don't have a deck, but do have an ally x, and have been using moonlight/parsec across several devices (phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, handhelds) for several years now. Absolutely an amazing experience if you have the infrastructure to support it. You have to ensure your host devices are hardwired to the network and not on wifi, have a strong signal for client devices if they are on wifi, if you plan on streaming to you devices when you are out of the home you have to ensure you have a fast enough internet connection.
I was there same, snatched the 1TB OLED last Tuesday, didn't arrive yet but I can't wait. Hybrid work IT, I have an ok PC but just hate sitting a it, I sit enough in front of the PC at work. I have a Razer Kishi V2 and it's been great, but I've an S22 which has a small screen, but still gaming with it is fun. So I can't wait for the Deck, bigger screen and built on Linux which I'm super familiar with because of work. Can't wait!
It's funny, because I grew up on consoles. I started with the SNES at 6 years old, then N64, then PS2 as a teen. After that, I went to PC in my college years and stayed on PC for years. The Switch brought me back to consoles in 2019, and the Steam Deck brought me back to PC last year (sold my Switch to get one). Now that I have all the old gen consoles on my Deck, as well as Steam and non-Steam PC games, and Switch games, I don't think I'll ever go back to owning a traditional console lol. I got over 400 games on my Steam Deck. I'm good. 😂
Bro I am living on the other side did the world as you yet we have the same exact gaming experiences haha I just ordered the steam deck and can’t wait to try it out.
Same with me and my legión go. In the last years only played god of war. But when bought legión go, started playing all kind of games 1 hour in the bed before sleep.
For all of us 40+ gamers where the screen feels too tiny now... I have discovered the magic of magnifier reading glasses. You have to find the right magnification factor for your eyes... for me, a $10 pair of x2 clip-ons were right on the money. One of the best Steam Deck "upgrades" that I've discovered so far.
Mid 40's gamer Dad here. Despite building and chasing the desktop dragon of the ultimate desktop, I have finished more games on a handheld, both Steam deck and Switch. You can just pick them up and put them down at any time. Sub'd..
I've never felt sitting at a desk to ever be comfortable that's why I never bothered with pc after my early experience like 15 years ago and personally I perfer to play games with a controller not m&k, I've always liked handhelds and the typical layout of consoles so the steamdeck is perfect especially since you can emulate all the way to ps3 no problem and of course you have steams vast library and you can go in desktop mode and play games from epic as an example if you want
You do know graphic cards have HDMI out right? And like 90% of games that come out nowadays have universal controller support. Unless you're playing something from like before 2005 or so, it will more than like have x-input support. I have my living room PC hooked up to a little workstation desk in a corner for playing on my 165hz monitor, and use my 4k TV as a second monitor. And you can setup steam "big picture mode" to open up on a specific display. I have it launch on my TV when I just feel like playing PC games on my couch. And Valve has updated big picture mode to look the same as the Steam Deck OS.
Feel very similar. After a day editing I just can't stay in my studio. The deck is great even if I end up start streaming gameplay from my gaming PC to it. Next step is me going to see if I can stream over the Meta Quest... If I get that set up in a different room and can play my PC games in there I think I might be sorted.
Yeah I have a great PC, but every time I log on I always find my self getting side tracked or trying to "fix" something or logging onto my server and I get easily distracted. but on my steam deck i can chill in bed on a Sunday or on the sofa and just get stuck into some games. doesn't make me feel like im wasting my time and could be doing something more "productive"
I really related to this video. I’m approaching 40 and have always been more of a casual gamer. As I’ve been getting older, my priorities have changed. I’m finding it less enjoyable to play competitive games while being tethered to a PC or console. I want to be able to have the freedom to pickup a game and play it wherever I am and put it down without it feeling like such a chore.
You mentioned you are a pc gamer and I saw you had FO3 and FO:NV in your library. Open world pc games like that are what I play most myself. My question to you is, do you actively play those on the Steam Deck as well or does the lack of keyboard and mouse is too much of a sacrifice?
I love my OLED Steam Deck, it’s always in my bag. Don’t disregard windows based handhelds however, it’s easy to get around the clunkiness of windows. I’m fortunate enough to have a Legion Go and Ally X as well and I love all 3.
I keep hearing everybody cry about Windows and I've had my rog Ally for a few months now and I'm not having as much headaches as everybody else keeps complaining about and I have a steam deck as well... I prefer my rog Ally because I can do things without limitations and having to learn Linux. We all have been using Windows for damn near our entire lives. Why is it such a headache? Now there's an on-screen keyboard and a touch screen. I don't get the crybaby mentality behind the windows thing. Yes, Windows could be better but it works perfectly fine.. The steam deck was stronger. I prefer that because of the track pads. Other than that I like the rog ally better.
Absolutely. Money is not the problem, but by the time everyone is finally asleep I have about 35 minutes before I pass out on the couch and I have to get up in 6 hours to go to work. The commute on public transport though is easily 1.5-2 free hours a day so a steam deck game session might fit right in
I came across this video and wanted to say I have similar feelings with a slight difference. Switch hit it out of the park for me initially. I have a couple of high end PCs to game on, a few mid range PCs to game on as well as access to a Series X and a One X. Slowly but surely, I simply wasn't gaming on those devices as much as expected. At one point, there was serious consideration to stop gaming entirely. Switch changed that because of its portability and how it constantly punched above its weight class. Steam Deck took the Switch portability concept and dialed it up to 11. I game almost entirely on Steam Deck now and have done so since it debuted. Switch is still good for key exclusives though. 👍🏿 Thanks for the video.
I have 3 kids now and I really have lost the feeling to game the way I used to, I loved gaming, I loveeeee gaming but after a long day with the kids and a baby I don't even want to sit at the pc to game anymore, I browse youtube or watch movies until I go to bed, it's a repeat cycle. so I'm getting the oled SD to try and get that piece of me back that I've lost and miss.
Very tempted to get one... used to have a switch oled and miss having it for convenience away from my PS5 at home... Not up to speed with emulations and upgrading software but the more i read and watch about the oled deck the more i want to get one!
I have the same problem, before I work / study outside but after covid I changed my career complete and I started to study web development at home so now I pass all the day in my room in my setup. Before I loved and was my moment of relax after study/work play videogames in my PC or console in my desk but know I am to tired or just I cant stay more in desk and after being working switch to play in the same exactly space. That is why I started to play more to my PS5 but still want to play some of the PC games that I have
I landed my first job and I can sense gaming in my pc is slowly going away because I can't sit longer (back pain, tired etc.) from work, and I'm saving up for a Steam deck lcd for now since it's cheaper. Hope it will be worth it.
I’m guessing we might be similar age. I was about to buy a gaming laptop last year after x-mas, ordered one but then I asked myself a question do I need it? I cancel the order and order 512 OLED Steam Deck (with dock for a fraction of the price of laptop). If someone plays mostly single player games, and uses mostly steam. The out of the box experience is console like. Turn the device on, plug-in to charge it, do updates, and download a game from your library and play. But for me tinkering (with games outside Steam indulging my drm free collection) and using it as a desktop (with dock and display) was the added value to the point this hardware almost entirely replaced my old laptop.
honestly i would save money and get a lcd with a bigger memory card. for the games that run best on the SD you really don't benefit from the oled. most people dont notice a difference unless you are playing AAA games that will kill your battery in 1hr.
Thanks for the answers. Guess I'll go with 512 GB since I don't need a lot of games. And I'm not gonna play the newest AAA games either. I mostly wanna play older games and maybe emulate console games.
@@JoseRamirez-jo1cmThats just wrong the Oled version has better battery more power and is just overall a better package for not much more money basically every review says this
I even bought a second desk to split work and play and even that did not work. Aside from a dozen hours on Space Marine 2 I haven’t touched my desktop this year.
It was fairly-rated back then , and well deserved all the praises. But Valve got greedy , and increased the price by 100$. So I went with the claw ultra which is only 70% of the SD oled's current price.
I had the deck then OLED. After getting the Legion Go, i would never go back to the deck and Linux . I work with Linux in my full time job but for gaming, windows any day
I’ve had my OLED for almost a year now and It’s the best purchase I think I’ve ever made. What a crazy device. Inhonestly can’t wait for Steam Deck 2 a day one purchase without a doubt. Won’t be out until 2026 though I can’t imagine
Warning to anyone who is sensitive to display flicker. Do not buy the OLED. It's really unfortunate that valve hasn't refreshed the LCD model to be more comparable to the OLED. Which is why the Rog was a better choice for me. Flicker free display is much easier on the eyes
I have the LCD model. Its definitely a game chager. But lets be honest, the battery time is bad in almost all circumstances. You'll still be attached to the wall most of the time. And the thing sounds like its about to take off and fly round the room playing most games. I tend to play indie games like Balatro, VS and Factorio and leave the more power hungry games from my PC and Xbox
I am going through a bad period and on top of that (and ofc the reason it happened) I'm in a huge burnout. I had no interest in gaming at all anymore. I've dedicatedly played world of warcraft for 20 years and that mood is gone. My steamdeck is slowly but surely pulling me through this and out of the burnout. Best buy I've done in a long time
Handheld gaming is still the best. My Portal connected to the PS5 alongside having a PC handheld (Ally X with Bazzite) is the best approach to gaming these days.
Depends what games you wanna play. Do all games you wanna play work on the steam deck? If yes then no need to get the rog. The money you save can be spend on buying more games and accessories. They are both excellent devices though.
I've had 2 SD cards die on me in my Steam Deck. Personally I bought the 64GB version and just replaced it with a 1TB M.2 drive. If you can afford the 512GB go for the 512GB.
@hellmekun YES you can, and you can either reinstall the os or just copy over the 64gb ssd data ro the new one with an ssd adapter. But you need to study the process throughly and we'll before doing it, as there are some small things that can be risky, including having to turn on battery storage mode from bios before opening the device and removing the battery cable before changing the ssd, etc... (I currently have the 64gb version and that's exactly what I'll do)
Wanted to leave this post here and perhaps somebody could „help“: earlier as a kid I was playing the shit out of one single game - certainly due to the fact of lacking money but lots of spare time. Nowadays as a medical doctor turning 40 next year and a toddler of 2 years at home I sit on a ps5 Xbox series x and since April this year on a steam deck oled. I have so many games I haven’t played on my ps5 and meanwhile due to steams sales as well sit on many games for steam as well. I often find myself in the same situation over and over again. I start a game but I don’t finish them anymore. Last year I started bg3 as warlock. After 25h into the game I restarted with a sorcerer to restart with a sorcerer again having the best considered race after 30h into the first sorcerer. This year when I got the steam deck I played ori the blind forest since i did not want to play will of the whisps without having played the first title yet. Stopped playing in the middle of the game. Bought shadow of the erdtree on the xsx since I played elden ring on this console back in 2022 and 2023. I was rusty and decided to start a complete new playthrough. 40h in I stopped plying and played season 6 of Diablo 4. I think you get the pattern in the meantime. How do you handle hopping from one game to another without finishing any of them what feels really meaningless in the end 😢😅?
The PS5 saved my desire for gaming. The Stem Deck however reignited my excitement for retro gaming and it's great! I don't use my Deck for modern games. I use that beautiful machine for all retro: PS3, PS2, Dreamcast, GameCube, Wii U, Sega 32X, SegaCD, Genesis, Super Nintendo, Nintendo, NeoGeo, and of course PSP and Gameboy Advanced/Color.
I’ve been using my steam deck while my wife’s in hospital. I struggle to like the deck because of its size, it’s just not comfortable compared to my small lightweight switch lite. However, I played half life 2 so I can’t complain 😅
I really enjoy my steam deck, but it is very plasticky now if they could make a steam deck out of Bakelite, I would be happy. And I would have really strong arms too .
First of all i have say that i have LCD Model 512GB i know you have OLED model but i watch so many LCD model review and i see everybody gets more fps then me :D Do you think am i doing something wrong ? I usually using default setting all games. Not Big game.
You can use SteamOS through a gaming pc hooked up to your tv and game on your couch? This thing isn't a magical item, it's just another handheld. And it's CLUNKY af.
Not for a while. Valve have already said they're not going to even work on one until there is a significant generational leap in performance at 15w TDP.
What's up with people who play 2 launch games on switch and then can't find anything else to play. It has one of the best libraries out of just about any console generation.
Basically you sir, like the rest of us older Steam Deck users, have now become a 'cosy gamer'.. welcome to the club. And yeah not so sure about these 'advantages' of getting older??
I wish you could play FIFA on the go on the deck (or at least without a faff of dual booting windows due to anti-cheat). As I don’t have a Pc, PS5 or Xbox to play it on. I have a switch but the graphics are terrible compared to the Xbox and PlayStation editions.
Truth! I really wanted a steam deck after doing heaps of research and watching heaps of reviews but ended up with a rog ally non extreme (which i had bought to flip). Was 100% planning on selling it but installed bazzite for fun to dual boot and see what performance is like on Linux. with a script from bazzite to reboot into windows (that works great) and some performance tweaks in windows/debloating etc it is so very good that I'm now going to keep it. I'm certain the SD OLED would be as good or better (though would need to dual boot windows to play Xbox live games) but at twice the price almost, I'll stick with the rog ally.

VR > Steam Deck
Online multiplayer gaming is dying, Activision and EA are killing it.
5:34 "..I doo-doo that.." hehe
for me the appeal is this:
1) bring it to the office and play a few matches with the lads
2) play some classic PC games that never had controller support, comfortably and portably
3) plug it to my living room TV and play all kids of games from the sofa, bonus points if you have a dualshock 4 like me and made come controller configs for some of you favorite old PC games
all this without even mentioning playing newer releases such as Elden Ring
I can`t wait for my deck to arrive, I`ll be able to spend so much more time with them
Thanks for sharing!
I have the 1TB OLED. it’s amazing.
Can't wait!
Got it yesterday, it's great, now I get it people say it's bigger than they thought
If you are still interested, you can setup a vpn like hammachi to connect via sunshine/moonlight to your pc wherever you are
I completely agree. I feel like a kid again and I never thought that would happen.
Bathroom gamers stand up! Lmao wash those hands after.
Steam Deck - Separate work and play!
Me: Immediately installs email client, office software, and video player to watch lectures.
The 40’s sure came fast eh? I’m always like “man, how am I 44 already?” Hell even celebrating the year 2000 felt like it was just the other week!
Mee too! Steam Deck and PS5 are my go-to gaming devices now. Until Valve releases their new and improved Steam Box, that is.
Steam box? Sounds interesting 🧐
Having pain in the back and hips, i understand this video. I cant be sitted for much time because hurts a lot. I thinking in buying this deck
I want to be able to have the freedom to pickup a game and play it wherever I am and put it down without it feeling like such a chore.
i like the fact that even though its not as poweful as the newer ones companies and the community do their best to optimize most games for it
You mentioned you are a pc gamer and I saw you had FO3 and FO:NV in your library.
Who's crying mate? Definitely not me. I just don't think it's as nice to use.
Put window/Linux debate aside, ROG ally feels underwhelming for me, the battery life is abysmal, ROG Ally X is better but it cost $700...
Your at the exact same stage of life as myself everytbing you said reslly hits home especially when you have 2 kids.
Nice! I'm sure it'll treat you well once you get one 😎
Really wish rog ally had a fanbase like steam deck.
Ordered the 1TB yesterday I'm so pumped I've been watching videos about the deck since 😂
I'm planning to buy a Steam Deck next month. Should i go for the OLED with 1 TB memory or 512 GB?
1tb. When steam next fest comes the more demos U can play the better !
honestly i would save money and get a lcd with a bigger memory card. for the games that run best on the SD you really don't benefit from the oled. most people dont notice a difference unless you are playing AAA games that will kill your battery in 1hr.
512 with a memory card if you need it?
Thanks for the answers. Guess I'll go with 512 GB since I don't need a lot of games. And I'm not gonna play the newest AAA games either. I mostly wanna play older games and maybe emulate console games.
@@JoseRamirez-jo1cmThats just wrong the Oled version has better battery more power and is just overall a better package for not much more money basically every review says this
It finally comes out in Australia next week and I’m keen af
I even bought a second desk to split work and play and even that did not work. Aside from a dozen hours on Space Marine 2 I haven’t touched my desktop this year.
i smell that
Gaming does feel like a chore sometimes kz i can only play like 3 hrs on the weekend and games are freaking full time jobs to finish it feels like
It was fairly-rated back then , and well deserved all the praises.
I live on the road for weeks at a time. The steam deck saved my sanity.
I've dumped so much money into the Nintendo ecosystem... Only to get a Steam Deck OLED and never touch my switch again since 🙈 It is THAT good though!
Yeah my switch collecting dust now. Been 4 months since i touched it 🤦♀️
What a beautiful video
Valve's trimming steamos bit by bit to be usable on ally. I'm guessing after a few months steamos will be fully working on the rog ally.
Have the Deck OLED and Rog Ally X . Both awesome . You can't go wrong with either .
I feel exactly in the same way about video games and about steam deck ❤
I would have bought one if it is truly plug and play since I hate tinkering! Does it do plug and play on romancing saga 2 and metaphor??
You don't notice the weight in the Oled version, but with the LCD one believe me you'll notice it, and after sometime your elbows too lol.
6:30 I originally got the 512gb lcd deck and later upgraded my storage to 2tb.
“All legally obtained” - never in doubt!
I have never seen a ROM before officer
5:42 (frantic Nintendo noises)
man has stremio on every device
Love the Forza Lego footage ❤
I am going through a bad period and on top of that (and ofc the reason it happened) I'm in a huge burnout.
I had no interest in gaming at all anymore. I've dedicatedly played world of warcraft for 20 years and that mood is gone.
My steamdeck is slowly but surely pulling me through this and out of the burnout. Best buy I've done in a long time
Saving for sa SD even if its a used LCD version. As of now I'm happy to play games via cloud gaming using my anroid tablet.
Handheld gaming is still the best. My Portal connected to the PS5 alongside having a PC handheld (Ally X with Bazzite) is the best approach to gaming these days.
Hey bro should I get a 512gb Steam Deck Oled with microsd card? Or rog ally x?
Depends what games you wanna play. Do all games you wanna play work on the steam deck? If yes then no need to get the rog. The money you save can be spend on buying more games and accessories. They are both excellent devices though.
I've had 2 SD cards die on me in my Steam Deck. Personally I bought the 64GB version and just replaced it with a 1TB M.2 drive. If you can afford the 512GB go for the 512GB.
I’d say go for Steam Deck for that console-like experience from Steam OS. I heard you can use plugins to get something like GOG on the Deck.
@@moonlambo5229 if i buy the 64gb, can i just replace it with the new M.2 drive? do i need to reinstall the OS or something?
@hellmekun YES you can, and you can either reinstall the os or just copy over the 64gb ssd data ro the new one with an ssd adapter. But you need to study the process throughly and we'll before doing it, as there are some small things that can be risky, including having to turn on battery storage mode from bios before opening the device and removing the battery cable before changing the ssd, etc... (I currently have the 64gb version and that's exactly what I'll do)
this is so true. steam deck saved me
Wanted to leave this post here and perhaps somebody could „help“: earlier as a kid I was playing the shit out of one single game - certainly due to the fact of lacking money but lots of spare time.
To avoid that plastic feeling I got a case and skin from DBrand and it feels premium as heck 👌
The PS5 saved my desire for gaming. The Stem Deck however reignited my excitement for retro gaming and it's great! I don't use my Deck for modern games. I use that beautiful machine for all retro:
PS3, PS2, Dreamcast, GameCube, Wii U, Sega 32X, SegaCD, Genesis, Super Nintendo, Nintendo, NeoGeo, and of course PSP and Gameboy Advanced/Color.
I’ve been using my steam deck while my wife’s in hospital. I struggle to like the deck because of its size, it’s just not comfortable compared to my small lightweight switch lite. However, I played half life 2 so I can’t complain 😅
Emulation is amazing especially if your looking for PS2 and GameCube emulation running great on a handheld
I am afraid that I will start playing shmups on it and destroy buttons.
Great review, gonna buy one soon so I can game and take a dump at the same time ;)
Make sure to wash your hands and wipe your ass
That y mainstream hardware/consoles will be in the market. Just works, sells.
Would love to see your recommended steam deck game list
yeah me too
I really enjoy my steam deck, but it is very plasticky now if they could make a steam deck out of Bakelite, I would be happy. And I would have really strong arms too .
Solid iron and we'll all have major gains
First of all i have say that i have LCD Model 512GB i know you have OLED model but i watch so many LCD model review and i see everybody gets more fps then me :D Do you think am i doing something wrong ? I usually using default setting all games. Not Big game.
You can use SteamOS through a gaming pc hooked up to your tv and game on your couch? This thing isn't a magical item, it's just another handheld. And it's CLUNKY af.
Hey, it's the Guy who covers Android, I didn't know you had your own channel.... Consider me a new subscriber.
I have the og steamdeck and it leaves so much to be desired in terms of performance and frame rate. I’m looking to get an ally x because of that.
i relate to this.
When is steam deck 2?
Not for a while. Valve have already said they're not going to even work on one until there is a significant generational leap in performance at 15w TDP.
What's up with people who play 2 launch games on switch and then can't find anything else to play. It has one of the best libraries out of just about any console generation.
Basically you sir, like the rest of us older Steam Deck users, have now become a 'cosy gamer'.. welcome to the club. And yeah not so sure about these 'advantages' of getting older??
5:34 "i do-do that" yeah i bet u dodo there
Most if not all handhelds have a sleep and resume feature so why is it so liberating? That feature is not new my Vita and 3DS can do the same thing
I wish you could play FIFA on the go on the deck (or at least without a faff of dual booting windows due to anti-cheat). As I don’t have a Pc, PS5 or Xbox to play it on. I have a switch but the graphics are terrible compared to the Xbox and PlayStation editions.
You didn’t install Chrome? Apart from playing games, it’s my go to device to watch anime or read manga. Much bigger than phones.
Yeah I have Chrome installed, but tbh I use my phone to browse mostly.
Rog Ally with SteamOS is the dream for me. The power from ASUS and system from Valve (or similar)
