Three rings for the Elven kings, under the sky Seven for the Dwarf lords, in their halls of stone Nine for the mortal men, doomed to die One ring for the Dark Lord, on his dark throne One Ring to rule them all One Ring to find them One Ring to bring them all And in the darkness bind them In the land of Mordor, where the shadows lie
You should also put "In the land of Mordor, where the shadows lie" right after "One for the Dark Lord, on his dark throne". other than those errors, I approve this comment.
@@gothmogonslaught6851 Well, I did this mostly from memory. It's been a while since I've read the books. I've got a book that essentially contains the entirety of the Lord of the Rings, as well as a leather bound copy of The Hobbit
The True King of Darkness sits upon a throne of Ice and Fire. In the Flame he Forges his might, In Frost he Drains Life, In Darkness he shall Dominate All.
I am %100 a Lich King fan and I knew going into this, Arthas did not stand a chance. I didn't know anything about Sauron's origin but I know the Lich king was nowhere near as powerful. Completely fair to be honest.
To be fair, the fight wasn't that one sided. Most of Arthas's abilities cancelled out Sauron's ( mind and soul manipulation as well as their respective control over fire/ice and shadow) And Frostmourne was easily the Lich King's biggest advantage as he could reliably deal damage to Sauron's soul on top of his Helm giving him the tools he needs to see past Sauron's illusions and figure out what he's all about The main deciding factors were the fact that Sauron had a higher recorded power feat (even considering how powerfull the Lich King was at the end of WoTLK) and the fact that Sauron has literally been around since the dawn of creation and has warred with Middle-Earth for tens of thousands of years
@@filipvadas7602 Had the Lich King realized that the ring was Sauron's power source, he'd have cut off the bastard's fingers/hand (Isildur did it but he mainly got LUCKY) and then turned his soul stealing attention to the One Ring itself. Of course pulling that off would require he do it maybe after infecting him with the Plague and obviously before he just sheds that physical body. Sauron however would likely realize that the guy knew and just never give him that opportunity. The Frostmourn was the only weapon that could actually destroy Sauron's Soul but his combat experience trumped Arthas' and Ner'zul's combined prowess.
This fight was great but the makers did not research enough about the lichking. How could a weapon forged by the runesmith of the afterlife, made out of a metal that is only found in the afterlife be broken by a ordinary steel weapon? You know that it broke in WOTLK because arthas was catched off guard by Tirion and Tirion is the strongest paladin with the legendary ashbringer that contains a piece of a naruu. The ashbringer is at least a weapon 10 times as strong as this shitty steel mace. Sauron on the other hand was defeated by an ordinary human with a broken straight sword.
@@DioBrando-qi9so Let us remind you that Sauron would likely never have settled on some normal mace, no matter how intimidating. Assume that said weapon is a creation of his...
I was just confused as to why Boomstick would say that because I disregarded the "Song" portion of that part of the Analysis for some reason until a bit later and yeah, that's pretty funny.
rewatching this agen i still love how cool Sauron is in the movie you dont see much of him in his armor so im glad there was a death battle of him to show how cool he truly is
This has been the most interesting waiting period I've seen for a death battle. I know absolutely nothing about these two, but watching the back and forth on deciding who would win was so fascinating. Nobody could seem to agree, and both seemed to make very convincing arguments. It was to the point G1 prediction blog(?) sauron only one by *one vote.* This was a very interesting debate, and I love it.
I'd give the win to Arthas just because Sauron has lost literally every single fight he's personally participated in. He does best when he avoids conflict and just manipulates people to destroy themselves.
@@ZanathKariashi Those distinctions mostly matter in thier own worlds though. When compared directly, Sauron’s power and immortality overpowered Frostmourne, and seeing as both were as fast as each other, Sauron could react in time to counter Arthas’ attacks. Besides, it’s not like Arthas seems to use his renowned combat prowess as the Lich King, seeing as most of his attacks are just spell spamming and wild sword swings.
@@ZanathKariashi Actually Sauron has 6 fights in the books. 1: Sauron vs Finrod. Winner Sauron 2: Sauron vs Huan and Luthian. Winner Huan and Luthian (but Sauron was pretty objectivly stronger and only lost due to bad luck) 3: Sauron vs Celebrimbor. Winner Sauron 4: Sauron vs The last Alliance. Winner Sauron (this is specifically when the last alliance had been seaging Barad Dur for 7 years and Sauron personally, singlehandidly drove back the alliance) 5: Sauron vs Elendil and Gil Galad. Winner either draw or Sauron (sorces are unclear if Sauron survived and was than killed by Isildur or if he was killed by the duo and Isildur only cut off the ring from his corpse) (Sauron was also heavily weakened during both this one and number 4) 6: Sauron vs The While Council [= at least Saruman, Galadriel, Gandalf, Elrond, Radagast/ and likely Celeborn, Glorfindel, Cirdan] Winner. The while Council but it was a vary narrow win against the weakest known version of Sauron and Sauron wanted to go back to Mordor anyway. So based on this it is clear that every time Sauron lost it was either because he was weakened, outnumbered, or both and when he fights people 1v1 he tends to win by a mile. I’de go so far as to say that only 2 of these fights were actually fair for Sauron. Because he is just so damn powerful that people feel the need to team up against him. “Confrontation of Sauron alone, unaided, self to self was not contemplated” -JRR Tolkien, latter 246
we have had a DB that took armies into account, Eggman vs Wily. still eagerly await the day you get a Death Battle right without doing it for all the wrong reasons, it's genuinely equally parts funny and impressive how it's always irrelevant details or less-impressive feats that sway your vote
I agree with you, but why are you saying this to a reactor, rather than to DB themselves? Also, Wiley and Eggman’s main strengths are their armies, while Arthas and Sauron’s are their magic and combat skills… and manipulation in Sauron’s case.
The wolf howls. The ravens flee. The ice mutters in the mouth of the sea. The captives sad, in Icecrown mourn. Thunder rumbles. The fires burn. And Arthas fell before the throne.

Lich is a term that has been used both in medieval fantasy literature, folklore, and even just simple linguistics. This is because originally, "Lich" simply meant "Corpse; Cadaver; Dead Body; Remains" in Old English, i.e., the form of English that the guy who wrote Beowulf (and would later inspire J. R. R. Tolkien, the man who created the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit) spoke. And this was reflected in an archaic term for a cemetery; a "Lich-Field" or "Litchfield," in addition to the "Lichgate" that funerary processions in England passed through as part of the service. So how did it become associated with the image of "Undead Wizard," as promoted by D&D, fantasy games, and so on? Well, the earliest attested use of the word in this manner was the story fragment 'The Stairs in the Crypt,' written by Clark Ashton Smith (whose most well-known literary compatriots were H. P. Lovecraft, who created the Cthulhu Mythos, and Robert E. Howard, the writer who gave the world Conan the Barbarian) in some unspecified date around the mid-to-late 1920's, completed posthumously and published in 1976 (15 years after Smith's death in 1961), with help from his friend, Lin Carter. In fact, a lot of the old 'Sword-and-Sorcery' pulp fantasy stories from the early 20th Century often made use of the term to refer to corpses, but the Stairs in the Crypt was the first to explicitly connect it to "Undead Wizards." A 2nd-place contender for earliest use of Lich as "Undead Wizard" is Robert E. Howard's 'Skull-Face (a novella released in a series of installments from October 1929 to December 1929 in Weird Tales, a popular Pulp Fantasy-Horror-Science Fiction rag),' in which a modern day (i.e., 1920's Era) character named Stephen Costigan does battle against a resurrected necromancer from the fabled kingdom of Atlantis.
One thing thats fun about Sauron is that he cant create anything orriginal anymore since he was corrupted by Morgoth. By that time all he does is twist beutifull things into something vile and he immitates Morgoth all the time, hes a lot more cunning and sneaky than his old master but he does immitate his army, for example the fell beasts his Ringwraiths ride on can be seen as cheap imitations of the great dragons that Morgoth made, Sauron also allied himself with Shelob (the giant spider from the last lotr movie) to mimic the way Morgoth was allied to Ungoliant the mother of all spiders, who was a spider demon of such epic proportions that even Morgoth himself cried for help once she turned on him... Sauron even corrupted Saruman the same way he was corrupted by Morgoth...
This is Definitely one of my Favorite Death Battles in the season. I recently finished watching the extended edition for the LotR movies and I'm currently reading the Hobbit so I was real excited when Sauron won(and the only mid-season reveal character to earn a W). The animation was great, the track "One King to Rule Them All" was Spectacular, and the performances of the characters were great, and the final Blow was Awesome. And this was the first Death Battle I showed to my Dad with him being a Huge LotR fan and he enjoyed it to
9:08 A lot of the info in Sauron’s introduction was cramming in info from the Books (The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the Silmarillion) Movies, & Video Games. In case you’re confused there were 3 rings for the Elves, 7 rings for the Dwarves, and 9 rings for Men. Which adds up to 19. Then Sauron made the One Ring to rule the other rings.
I wish they used a line from the games for Arthas. "Come to me, Pretender. FEED MY BLADE!" "Watch, as the world around you COLLAPSES!" "Frostmourne hungers!"
Okay, so after taking the time to actually digest this battle here are my thoughts: *Lich King* : 1. They kind of skimmed over the fact that Frostmourne is able to damage and trap souls, even ones like the Nathrazim who , like Sauron, can simply reform if their physical body dies. It was really the Lich King's main win condition. 2. The Lich King grew significantly in strength the more souls he consumed. In fact, he literally KILLS the players, *the same players* who had previously *also* beaten Illidan and many other powerfull beings like Hakkan, Onyxia, Nefarian, Ragnaros (albeit not at full power) and even a moderately weakened *Kil'jaeden* , you know ,the guy who *MADE* the original Lich King! Then he begins to resurrect them at the end of his fight admitting that it was his plan to bring the strongest individuals in Azeroth to his seat of power to become generals in his army, implying he had been toying with them the entire time. The only reason he loses is because Frostmourne is broken at the last second , which *does* track as Sauron's win condition. But ,it really shows that the Lich King was WAY more powerfull at his peak then they gave him credit for. Other then that they did a good job of representing him and although he lost the fact that they showed that experience and raw power were the *only* deciding factors just shows how much of a threat he was. His responses to Sauron were badarse and the way they had him counter him blow for blow did the most popular character in Warcraft history justice. *Sauron* : 1. The main thing that irked me about their Sauron analysis was that didn't really enthasise how big of a weakness the Ring is. Sauron didn't just retreat into his spirit form when the Ring was separated from him, he literally *LOST THE ABILITY* to maintain a physical form and the loss in power was so great that he needed centuries to rebuild his spirit's influence over the physical world. Shown by the fact that the Nazgul also weren't able to maintain physical form until around the events of the the LoTR as their power is directly proportional to his own 2. Something I wish they had mentioned was that Sauron usually didn't even fight with a weapon. Sure the mace is iconic, but the dude had a tendency to throw down with his *BARE HANDS* which would be wreathed in flame (hence why Isildur had the perfect opportunity to cut off his finger) Similar to Arthas, they did an overall good job and ironically gave Sauron more badass scenes then the Jackson trilogies or the sh!t Amazon series *combined* The shot of him erupting Mount Doom in the background and sitting on the Frozen Throne with it slightly melting were definite highlights
The reason they kind of lowballed both of them is due to the fact that it's not very clear how they scale to other threats. Even if they highballed them so that they could achieve the same feats as more powerful opponents, Arthas would still be around planet level, while Sauron would be around Star level, so Sauron had the edge in power either way. Also, Sauron has complete control over his own soul, and The One Ring further enhances this trait, so basically Sauron has Soul protection by default. This also grants him the ability to repair damage dealt to his soul, as he can just re-shape it so that it’s healthy again.
Sauron's form was only dispersed because of how much damage he'd taken in the fight (killing him along with the other 2), and removing the ring removed his "ENHANCED" level of power which caused his body to deteriorate since that enhanced power level was all that was holding it together at that moment (also canonically he wasn't killed by Isilldur, that was only in the movies, he died from his wounds from Elindel and Gil-galad, and then Isildur cut the ring off his corpse as wergilde for the battle due to his father's death). However he recovered back to his original level of power after a few centuries but kept hidden because he wanted to search for the Ring without alerting anyone, it was only after people noticed something was going on that he started letting the Naz'gul become more active and obvious to distract from the fact that he was in fact back to buy him more time until he was finally discovered. He actually had the Nazgul running around unclad looking for the ring during the early parts as only a handful of beings in middle earth would be able to see an unclad Nazgul. Sauron can always access the original amount of power he put into the ring, regardless of where it is at the time (provided the Ring remains loyal to him), but he's even further enhanced beyond that when the ring is actually in his possession as it hones and magnifies his powers of domination. (as Tolkiens writing said on the matter, if someone had managed to conquer the Ring's will, it would've destroyed Sauron just the same as unmaking the ring, as it would no longer let him access the power he'd put into it (which is the only thing at this point keeping from him being a helpless diminished shadow, since he lost all his remaining power during his death at Neumenor)
@@HB-fq9nn Bro you reaching so hard your mom should ground you, literally nothing SAURON does is universal, star or galaxy level. The biggest LotR fans that actually read the stuff will tell you "its too Vague" all the feats of strength were basicly GODS and hes not a god, hes the same race as Gandalf, an underling to a high angel.
Just to note, a Lich is generally depicted as a nearly-immortal undead with dominion over other undead. For instance, in D&D & Pathfinder, a Lich is extremely hard to kill permanently, as unless you destroy the Lich's phylactery first, killing the Lich will only be temoprary and the Lich will resurrect at some point between 1-10 days later just as powerful as before but fully aware of how they were defeated the previous time. There's a reason why in-universe, Liches are viewed will utter terror. In Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, when your team runs into Zacharius, who is himself a Lich, even your party's Paladin (a holy knight that *specializes* in taking out evil beings like demons and the undead) is downright *terrified* at the thought of having to potentially fight Zacharius.
Yeah, the drawbacks of the movies had the flaw of not being able to include everything. Just for perspective, Tolkien’s son-when discussing the movie with Peter Jackson-said the only way to encompass everything/the most from the LOTR book was to have each of the three movies be 7 hours long. A total of 21 hours. Trust me when I saw that Tolkien was a very specific and articulate writer. He had all sorts of Appendices, wrote as much detail as he could for every character, and created his own languages for the many races in his books. And he expanded upon all of that when he made the Silmarillion, the prequel to the Hobbit and LOTR.
@@marmyeater To be fair, what Tolkien’s son was suggesting would probably only work best as a TV series. Let’s face it, no movie would have been made with a run time of 7 hours. And the longest movie I can remember is the Snyder cut of the Justice League, and that was only 4 hours long. More devoted LOTR fans would have loved 7 hour long movies. But the general audience wouldn’t be patient enough no matter how good the story might be.
On a similar note, "Wight" being used in reference to undead is also an Old English term (this time from the word for...'man'; yep, that's all it meant, a man, or person), and J. R. R. Tolkien had a slightly more direct hand in Wight being used to refer to malicious undead to boot! This is because in Lord of the Rings, there are repeated mentions of "Barrow-Wights (also called "Barrow-Men" or "the People of the Barrows") who haunt the dark and lonely places of the world, but never too far from their barrow, where their bones were interred after death. They typically stalked the places where they died in battle or walked the perimeter of an area where they buried their treasure, so greedy and vicious even in death about anyone else laying a finger on _THEIR_ treasure, that it's common knowledge that if someone steals from a barrow, they'll be cursed by the Barrow-Wights to a wasting-away illness, bad luck, and the Barrow-Wights themselves travelling all the way from their Barrows (one of the few times they can leave it and not suffer the bane of sunlight) to reclaim their stolen property, no matter how many bloody swathes of people they need to cut through to get it back! When the writers of TSR wanted to adapt elements of the Lord of the Rings into D&D circa 1974, they had a brief copyright altercation with the estate of J. R. R. Tolkien, over the use of the words 'Hobbit' and 'Barrow-Wight,' forcing the TSR team to adjust their plans a bit (replacing 'Hobbits' with 'Halflings' and dropping the 'Barrow' from 'Barrow-Wight,' simplifying it into just 'Wight').
One thing to consider with this battle is that Tolkien heavily inspired the pantheon of LotR from actual Christianity. When LotR's god, who was based on the Christian god, tried to destroy Sauron, who wasn't even this world's version of Satan, but one of Morgoth's generals, Sauron literally just walked it off. God literally tried to smite him, and all it did was annoy Sauron.
The Digimon fans were actually pretty friendly and helpful when providing feedback on her video. It’s more likely he was an overly obsessed fan that felt betrayed when he learned she was Aro-Ace.
I love death battles like this where it comes down to more than just raw power but experience and adaptability. Also, the voice overs were chillingly awesome.
Fun fact since you mentioned Sauron being around for so long: Sauron is actually the fourth oldest character to ever be featured in Death Battle! He debuted in "The Hobbit, or There and Back Again", released in September 1937, a few months before even Superman! If you're curious, the three characters that are older than him are Popeye, Sun Wukong, and Heracles
You know Izuku but regarding Asta, imagine this: You are a mage, One born of royal blood and high mana. You work hard and in time you learned to cast powerful magic, very few could measure to your power and skill but many would look up to you. However, in time you develop a superiority complex looking down on those with lesser status. Then one day, at your most powerful you were easily defeated, not by a superior mage, but a small, magic-less peasant who hit you in the head with a huge anti-magic sword. How humiliating would that be?
"I think Sauron might win this, unless there's some sort of trump card." Meanwhile: *Sauron literally has the music in his favor while proceeding to sit on the throne*
Sauron used to have a boss. But when Morgoth is taken out, Sauro assumes the throne and is the top guy thereafter. He holds the highest position long before the Lord of the Rings which would be the context you know him from.
I make fun of my friends all the time who has red and the Lord of the rings books and she gets so mad because I say why does an eye need a ring She gets so mad and starts going into the detail backstory of sauron. It’s hilarious.
Still disappointed they didn't specifically remark on one of Sauron's Greatest feats... ...He won a singing competition against THE ELF LORD himself, Finrod Felagund. That's right, Sauron is so Badass he could have Rap Battled the Lich King into oblivion! To explain, there really is a moment in the silmarillion where Sauron and Finrod (Who was disguised as an Orc at the time, long story) sing songs of power in competition against each other, and it is so epic that the Elves specifically wrote a poem about Sauron's victory. Clamavi De Profundis has done a really good rendition of it here on youtube, you should react to "The Battle of Sauron and Finrod Felagund" sometime.
11:02 given their level of "technology"/medicine etc not much else to do to keep something like this from spreading ... at least as far as I can remember the lore from years ago that decision was not easy made and one of the things that increased the pressure on him to look for more radical solutions to stop it... such a long time already since I was invested in all this lore until they themselves poked holes into it with WoW... mfg Olli
By the way, sauron is a major character in the series that recently premiered on Amazon Prime, Lord of the rings: the rings of power (supposed to be a prequel to Lord of the rings).
There is one other crazy factor. The reason why Sauron set up home in Mordor. The reason is twofold. Its been asked whether or not Melkor/Morgoth had a ring? The answer is yes. The reason why nobody knows exactly where that ring is has to do with scale. When we think of the rings, we think of something that can fit on a finger. Sauron is a Maiar, Melkor was a Valar and not just any Valar but the strongest of them all. Huge difference! And the operative word is huge! One is an Angel, the other is a God. Melkor's Ring was Arda, Middle Earth, itself. His strength was literally the foundations of Middle Earth. Mount Doom/Orodruin was the largest upwelling of that strength in all of Middle Earth. Sauron forged his One Ring with his Masters power.
What made this a good battle is (unlike the one before and after it) it wasn't an obvious stomp! It's like they put it between a stomp sandwich. Like Stomp/Interesting/Stomp, hold the mayo.
Black Clover has some Banger openings that might really be worth a watch if not planning to see the series itself. It is honestly one of those series which basically just continues to improve the deeper it goes without dropping and has some REALLY good animation. Personally, I'd say Black Clover > My Hero, it has some absolutely badass moments and characters.
This is the best match for Sauron imo. Most people pit Sauron with people like Vader or Palpatine and be like "hurr durr Sauron will lose" but he won't. The Lich King and Sauron are very equal, they both have menacing armour, vast armies of chaff, and absurdly powerful artifacts. Also Lich is pronounced "Litch" Edit: side note but please don't talk so much while you're reacting, and you do know pause buttons exist right? Sorry if I'm rude but I've seen one pair of guys talk WAY TOO MUCH while they're reacting
I hope you start getting into WoW lore. The cinematics they make are top notch and extremely entertaining. As a fan of both worlds I kinda knew Sauron would win. Sauron with the One Ring is pretty much completely unstoppable, even other Gods fear him when he is with the Ring. Army vs. Army though I think the Lich Kings forces would win an actual war. Orcs can be bred but that takes time, the undead can just be raised over and over. I get why they pitted Arthas vs. Sauron but a closer fight would've been Sargeras vs. Sauron. Then it would've been green fire against red fire lol. Probably would have to use tiny Sargeras though since his true form he is larger than planets. However, if Arthas had somehow gotten the Ring away from Sauron it would be Arthas all day. That's really Saurons only weakness is being seperated from his Ring. He's strong without it but I don't think he'd be on the same level as Arthas without it
I don't think it would have been fair to pit Sargeras against him, His feats consistently put him beyond planetary in terms of attack potency, The only reason Azeroth wasn't completely destroyed in Legion was specifically because he was heavily weakened at the point where he *literally stabbed the planet* And even then it was causing the whole world to fall apart over time and destroyed a country-sized location entirely. It would be similar to Thanos fighting Darkseid, at best Sauron would be able to destroy one of Sargeras' avatars, but the Titan himself is a whole other story.
It's also worth noting that the winner of the fight is usually based on who would win the most often, not necessarily in the one animation we get (though this fight's animation was kickass!). There are definitely instances where Arthas could defeat Sauron, but more often than not Sauron would come out on top.
I'm a comendium of lore for World of Warcraft and was obsessive over it for the longest of times. That said, even I knew (with little knowledge of LOTR extended lore) that Sauron won this. I love Arthas and his character's sad fate, but there was no way he wasn't taking the L here.
"I'd love to see a death battle that takes armies into account." Me to, but let's be honest its really not that feasible budget wise. It was only really an option back in season 1's smaller scale (eggman vs wily)
@@HB-fq9nn true, but its a very small part of the episode, I wouldn't really call it an army battle, its just a couple seconds of very unvaried animation in the background
@@helios_is_my_name I guess. Having Sigma's aerial forces as hazards and Ultron switching bodies did help the fight feel more grand than just two guys fighting though.
@@HB-fq9nn oh yeah, agreed it was a really good fight. While with characters as varied as these two, there'll always be "I wish they also did this" but it was still very good
The thing about the Lich King they really killed him as a powerful villain in his universe cause his tools of power were just mere childsplay weapons from the afterworld if you would call it like that. And his Leaders appeared and it was revealed it was all a masterplan of some dude sitting in Hell controlling everything. It went really downhill with the Lore writing there.
You should definitely read (or audio book listen to) the lord of the rings books. Even with what they covered in the movies, each movie could likely be split into as many full length director’s cuts as the entire current series, and still not cover ALL that was in the books
I would suggest caution when going into the next battle. There MIGHT be spoilers for season 6 of MHA, or even from the manga. I'd suggest waiting a bit until someone's watched it and told you if there are spoilers or if it's safe. That's my plan.
Death Battle did flat out spoiled AoT It also spoiled Bleach but that is more forgivable because at the time, there was no anime adaptation of TYBW and the only thing it will spoil to was people who didn't take the time to read the manga
Honestly they didn't go nearly into the LOTR power levels and how OP Sauron actually is The Maiar and Valar in reality are up to Outerversal in power- (universal , above that there is multiversal , then hyperversal and only after that there is Outerversal) Even without this , the Sword that Sauron shattered is comparable to object which contained power of countless stars . Or the Maiar / Valar speed (which might interest you) being immesurable , they can quite literally go as fast as they want and can imagine . And if this insane power , speed and immortality wasn't enough - The One Ring's corrupting power actually scales with person's Power , Evil and Ambition (all pretty much defining characteristics of the Lich King as a character) meaning he would likely get corrupted anyways . *And final note , the One Ring could NOT be destroyed in any lava , it had to be specifically in Mount Doom where Sauron made it
Good that you saw the movies. True pieces of art, and I feel that the comments would've gone berserk if you didn't. What was your favorite moment from those films? The one thing i kind of disagree with the outcome is that the LK can steal any soul. A blade weaker than Frostmourne were able to take the soul of what was practically a god. In WoW.
The main reason they had decided that he didn't have that ability was because Sauron was skilled in manipulating his own soul, as well as the fact that it was also bound to the One Ring, which meant that he would not have gotten the entirety of Sauron's soul in one place anyway.
If you're interested in World of Warcraft story, I'd recommend Nobbel 87. He has the best voice and most extensive lore channel for characters and the main story alike. Including the Lich King.

The book version of Sauron was much weaker. The eye of Sauron wasn't a thing in the books, and the one ring was taken from him after he was defeated, it wasn't the reason he was defeated. So in canon Sauron actually just fell to a bunch of humans and elves. Arthas wins against book Sauron.
Yeah but in the prequel book The Silmarillion he doesn’t even need the eye to be powerful. Also the Eye *is* in the books, especially in The Silmarillion.
@@OrbObserver One moment only it stared out, but as from some great window immeasurably high there stabbed northward a flame of red, the flicker of a piercing Eye. Return of the King, Book VI, Chapter II.
@@calebgoodman3028 Yeah, for one moment only. Sauron looked at something. ONE MOMENT ONLY. That doesn't justify the giant magical eyeball in the movies.
Fun fact. Sauron WASN'T wrong. NO ONE was able to resist the influence of the ring long enough to destroy it, not even Frodo. Bearing Sauron's will and power that close to him for so long actually corrupted Frodo to the point that he was willing to KILL Sam in order to keep the ring for himself. It was actually Golem who destroyed the ring after he stole it back from Frodo, and even that was by accident. Golem was so happy to finally get his "precious" back after so long that he started to literally dance with joy and ended up falling off the bridge leading into the magma chamber of Mount Doom by accident, taking the one ring with him.
@@BJGvideos It was stated to specifically corrupted the one who carries it. Its why the fellowship, including Gandalf, were okay to travel with the ring but were unable to hold it for even a few minutes without succumbing. Only those with particularly weak wills or who came into especially close contact could even perceive the ring's temptations without having it on them. Sam was fine because he had the ring for a VERY short time, less than a day, and halflings are explicitly stated to be exceptionally resistant to mind altering magic.
Ngl I was expecting the Lich King to win. Considering he had the will to resist the dude who possessed him, I figured he could resist the One Ring's temptation and destroy it, crippling Sauron. But hey, I have absolutely zero knowledge of either franchise, so c'est la vie I guess.
You probably aren't aware, but there's actually a 2nd death condition for Sauron involving the Ring. Mostly because the good guys refused to take it. Instead of destroying the ring, you master it and bend it's loyalty from Sauron to yourself. Which instantly destroys Sauron as the Ring will no longer allow him to access the power he'd put into it and instead allows it's new master access to all that power. (Normally that would NOT have killed Sauron, however after his destruction at Neumenor, the power in the Ring was all he had left and while he can access that original amount from anywhere regardless of where the ring is, he NEEDS that power to be able to still affect the world and if the ring flips allegience to someone else, then it has the exact same results, for him anyway, as if you'd destroyed the Ring. Except now you've got someone powerful enough to bend the Ring's will AND they now have all of Sauron's power TOO in addition to what inherent power they had already. Now the catch, is knowing that you've actually done it and the Ring isn't simply playing you by letting you use some of it's higher powers to fool you into thinking you've mastered it and then run off to face Sauron half-cocked and bring the Ring right too him. Now you could do this on accident just by power-hungry enough and might not realize that by claiming and mastering the Ring you'd also destroyed Sauron, but we would know that if the character THINKS they've bound the ring but Sauron still exists, then the Ring is faking it.
Probably shouldn’t watch the next one, considering if they’re using current Deku in the manga where all of his other Quirks are revealed. So it’s best to play it safe.
Yeah there is going to have manga spoilers for Deku analysis and for Asta too since you never saw Black Clover, but it be cool to see your reaction to the anime too eventually, it's really good

Answer, yes
I am %100 a Lich King fan and I knew going into this, Arthas did not stand a chance. I didn't know anything about Sauron's origin but I know the Lich king was nowhere near as powerful. Completely fair to be honest.
He sounds pretty powerful to me!
To be fair, the fight wasn't that one sided.
Most of Arthas's abilities cancelled out Sauron's ( mind and soul manipulation as well as their respective control over fire/ice and shadow)
And Frostmourne was easily the Lich King's biggest advantage as he could reliably deal damage to Sauron's soul on top of his Helm giving him the tools he needs to see past Sauron's illusions and figure out what he's all about
The main deciding factors were the fact that Sauron had a higher recorded power feat (even considering how powerfull the Lich King was at the end of WoTLK) and the fact that Sauron has literally been around since the dawn of creation and has warred with Middle-Earth for tens of thousands of years
@@filipvadas7602 Had the Lich King realized that the ring was Sauron's power source, he'd have cut off the bastard's fingers/hand (Isildur did it but he mainly got LUCKY) and then turned his soul stealing attention to the One Ring itself.
Sauron on the other hand was defeated by an ordinary human with a broken straight sword.

rewatching this agen i still love how cool Sauron is in the movie you dont see much of him in his armor so im glad there was a death battle of him to show how cool he truly is
This has been the most interesting waiting period I've seen for a death battle.
@@ZanathKariashi that's not how a verses battle works in any fictional debate bud. That's inversed writing
@@ZanathKariashi Actually Sauron has 6 fights in the books.
1: Sauron vs Finrod. Winner Sauron
2: Sauron vs Huan and Luthian. Winner Huan and Luthian (but Sauron was pretty objectivly stronger and only lost due to bad luck)
3: Sauron vs Celebrimbor. Winner Sauron
4: Sauron vs The last Alliance. Winner Sauron (this is specifically when the last alliance had been seaging Barad Dur for 7 years and Sauron personally, singlehandidly drove back the alliance)
5: Sauron vs Elendil and Gil Galad. Winner either draw or Sauron (sorces are unclear if Sauron survived and was than killed by Isildur or if he was killed by the duo and Isildur only cut off the ring from his corpse) (Sauron was also heavily weakened during both this one and number 4)
6: Sauron vs The While Council [= at least Saruman, Galadriel, Gandalf, Elrond, Radagast/ and likely Celeborn, Glorfindel, Cirdan] Winner.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
In fact, a lot of the old 'Sword-and-Sorcery' pulp fantasy stories from the early 20th Century often made use of the term to refer to corpses, but the Stairs in the Crypt was the first to explicitly connect it to "Undead Wizards."
A 2nd-place contender for earliest use of Lich as "Undead Wizard" is Robert E.
Sauron goes up against angels and super-elves. Literally had to be plot deviced into defeat. Arthus ain't got it like that.
One thing thats fun about Sauron is that he cant create anything orriginal anymore since he was corrupted by Morgoth.
By that time all he does is twist beutifull things into something vile and he immitates Morgoth all the time, hes a lot more cunning and sneaky than his old master but he does immitate his army, for example the fell beasts his Ringwraiths ride on can be seen as cheap imitations of the great dragons that Morgoth made,
Sauron also allied himself with Shelob (the giant spider from the last lotr movie) to mimic the way Morgoth was allied to Ungoliant the mother of all spiders, who was a spider demon of such epic proportions that even Morgoth himself cried for help once she turned on him...
FEED MY BLADE!"

"Frostmourne hungers!"
When god himself can't kill a character you know that guy is something else
I love when villains fight each other in death battle.
Okay, so after taking the time to actually digest this battle here are my thoughts:
*Lich King* :
*Sauron* :
Shown by the fact that the Nazgul also weren't able to maintain physical form until around the events of the the LoTR as their power is directly proportional to his own
2. Something I wish they had mentioned was that Sauron usually didn't even fight with a weapon. Sure the mace is iconic, but the dude had a tendency to throw down with his *BARE HANDS* which would be wreathed in flame (hence why Isildur had the perfect opportunity to cut off his finger)
Similar to Arthas, they did an overall good job and ironically gave Sauron more badass scenes then the Jackson trilogies or the sh!t Amazon series *combined*
The shot of him erupting Mount Doom in the background and sitting on the Frozen Throne with it slightly melting were definite highlights
sauron did have a physical form after losing the ring, the movies changed stuff
@@jnes624 True. Gollum saw Sauron in physical form, which happened after Sauron lost The One Ring.
18:09 “I think Sauron might win this”
He says, as Sauron proceeds to win this
Just to note, a Lich is generally depicted as a nearly-immortal undead with dominion over other undead.

@@jaydonmagan4694 Basically: we were cheated out of half a day's worth of Lord of the Rings.

One King to Rule Them All
Even has an audible little tribute to the LotR movies theme "one ring to rule them all"
On a similar note, "Wight" being used in reference to undead is also an Old English term (this time from the word for...'man'; yep, that's all it meant, a man, or person), and J. R.

Fun fact since you mentioned Sauron being around for so long:
Sauron is actually the fourth oldest character to ever be featured in Death Battle! He debuted in "The Hobbit, or There and Back Again", released in September 1937, a few months before even Superman!
If you're curious, the three characters that are older than him are Popeye, Sun Wukong, and Heracles

You know Izuku but regarding Asta, imagine this:
You are a mage, One born of royal blood and high mana.

"The Leak King"
By the way, sauron is a major character in the series that recently premiered on Amazon Prime, Lord of the rings: the rings of power (supposed to be a prequel to Lord of the rings).
I hope Sauron the plumber can beat 'leaking'
You're thinking of Twitter, Kyle.
Yeah... movies and even the books leave a lot out about Sauron. It’s not until The Silmarillion we get anything on his backstory.
Isildur cutting the finger of the hand is the first part of the first movie
The Lich King is just awesome, but in the end, Sauron is basically Tolkien's Universe Lich King, Mannoroth, Kil'Jaeden and Archimonde combined in one.
Saurons lines where directly from the movies
Maybe the Isildur scene was in the extended version. Could explain why you don’t remember it. The movies are 10 hours altogether when extended.

It is honestly one of those series which basically just continues to improve the deeper it goes without dropping and has some REALLY good animation. Personally, I'd say Black Clover > My Hero, it has some absolutely badass moments and characters.

I want Death Battle to do army fights again
This is the best match for Sauron imo.
Most people pit Sauron with people like Vader or Palpatine and be like "hurr durr Sauron will lose" but he won't.
The Lich King and Sauron are very equal, they both have menacing armour, vast armies of chaff, and absurdly powerful artifacts.
Also Lich is pronounced "Litch"
Edit: side note but please don't talk so much while you're reacting, and you do know pause buttons exist right?
I've read LOTR and the Silmarillion, and have been playing Warcraft since he RTS days. This was a no brainer, but entertaining nonetheless.
I just realized that the original of Boomstick's was WoW (World of Warcraft) this is my third time watching it.
I'm a comendium of lore for World of Warcraft and was obsessive over it for the longest of times. That said, even I knew (with little knowledge of LOTR extended lore) that Sauron won this. I love Arthas and his character's sad fate, but there was no way he wasn't taking the L here.
"I'd love to see a death battle that takes armies into account."
Me to, but let's be honest its really not that feasible budget wise. It was only really an option back in season 1's smaller scale (eggman vs wily)
Ultron vs Sigma had a small army battle segment.
Just to be safe from spoilers, you should wait a bit till someone says it's spoiler free for mha for the next time
You should definitely read (or audio book listen to) the lord of the rings books. Even with what they covered in the movies, each movie could likely be split into as many full length director’s cuts as the entire current series, and still not cover ALL that was in the books
i love the raw villine vs villine battles.
I would suggest caution when going into the next battle.
There MIGHT be spoilers for season 6 of MHA, or even from the manga. I'd suggest waiting a bit until someone's watched it and told you if there are spoilers or if it's safe. That's my plan.
Death Battle did flat out spoiled AoT
It also spoiled Bleach but that is more forgivable because at the time, there was no anime adaptation of TYBW and the only thing it will spoil to was people who didn't take the time to read the manga
It's kinda strange the Amazon Prime Super "hero" showdown didn't reveal comic spoilers yet they are ok spoiling manga

*Arthas did nothing wrong* 🙂
Whas the nostalgic critic lord of the ring 1978
Honestly they didn't go nearly into the LOTR power levels and how OP Sauron actually is
The Maiar and Valar in reality are up to Outerversal in power- (universal , above that there is multiversal , then hyperversal and only after that there is Outerversal)
Even without this , the Sword that Sauron shattered is comparable to object which contained power of countless stars .
Or the Maiar / Valar speed (which might interest you) being immesurable , they can quite literally go as fast as they want and can imagine .
And if this insane power , speed and immortality wasn't enough -
The One Ring's corrupting power actually scales with person's Power , Evil and Ambition (all pretty much defining characteristics of the Lich King as a character) meaning he would likely get corrupted anyways .
*And final note , the One Ring could NOT be destroyed in any lava , it had to be specifically in Mount Doom where Sauron made it

You should check out more of the Lich King, he is an awsome character. The Darth Vader of WoW.
I’ve never seen Star Wars though
@@theduckgoesmoo Well you know who Darth Vader is right?
If you're interested in World of Warcraft story, I'd recommend Nobbel 87. He has the best voice and most extensive lore channel for characters and the main story alike. Including the Lich King.

Sauron got beat up by a dog.

I’m going to get a lot of comments asking for me to react to it when it comes out. I hope you can answer some of those like you’ve done in the past. I really appreciate that you do that by the way
@@theduckgoesmoo No problem dude, I do hate that people don't pay attention to the actual Video where you outright state what you decide to do and gets more and more infuriating to see at least 1 more person do the same thing for no reason.
@@calebgoodman3028 No it isn't, the only eye that is mentioned is emblazoned on the shields and armor of Saurons forces.
@@OrbObserver Indeed. It’s pretty difficult to see with the cloud mantle covering it up in shadow as stated in the same chapter.
Stupidity saves the day
It corrupts the people around it, yeah? In that case, Sam was able to resist it.
One problem, Arthas can't destroy The One Ring.
It can only be destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom.
@@ZanathKariashi It’s basically like Sauron is in 2 places at once. 😆
