I feel like the real confrontation between Sauron and the Lich King would consist of them just sending hordes of minions at each other, without ever leaving their respective towers.
Maybe we can have someone like Beyonder force them to fight. During the Marvel Secret Wars, a cosmic entity known as Beyonder was basically like “Hmm, I wonder who would win in a fight, good or evil?”. So he just teleportd a bunch of heroes and villains to a random planet so they could fight. Fun Fact: Spider-Man got the Black Suit (Venom Symbiote) during this event.
if that were the case, Lich King would win out in the end. not only can he create monsterous fiends... he can lay claim to the newly dead; so the enemies would be his upon death.
@@beardedcasual5120 yeah in terms of armies (if we don't count Balrogs) The Scourge tramples both Mordor and Isengard combined. Sauron is a necromancer but not to the same scale as the Lich King.
It also references that in canon Arthas, upon reawakening in Wrath of the Lich King, tore out his own heart and tossed it down the Icecrown Glacier. And there is a quest where we can find and destroy it, making the Lich King much weaker for the final confrontation.

Easily my favourite Death Battle of 2022. I’m so happy with how they handled both LOTR as well as WoW. Fingers crossed we get more high fantasy battles like this in 2023.
Well a couple of weeks ago they did confirm a matchup that's happening next season that consist of characters considered to be high fantasy, I won't say what it is incase if you want it to be a mystery.
This is easily the DB that's closest to being the series' masterpiece. There are a few nitpicks people have but ultimately it's just *sooo* well done. I'm really hoping they have another one like this at some point this year, too.
This is one of my favorite Death Battles of all time, and is really special to me since it's the first DB that I showed my dad, he's a Huge fan or the Lord of the Rings franchise and is the reason I got into watching them and started reading the books and I'm so happy that the DB was as good as it was with the analysis for both and being the first time a Middle Earth and WOW character has been on the series, the music was amazing (One King to Rule Them All), and the Fight itself was spectacular in the showcase of abilities, combat choreography, and dialogue for both characters, it's so good

I kinda wish they did a winners circle fight between Sauron and Castevania's Dracula. By man 'Dorf got done dirty in that matchup, so I wanna see how the other insanely powerful dark lord would handle him.
The alias name "Annatar" is very, VERY interesting actually. In Finnish mythology, many deities and other higher spirits have the suffix "-tar" to denote their authority over something (It also happens to be the female form, but that doesn't really matter) and Annatar was supposed to be the Lord of Gifts. Well, the word "Antaa" in Finnish meant "to give", which does bend to the form "anna", or "give" in English. There are many things Tolkien took directly from Finnish mythology and I do believe this is one of them. A native would've used the name "Antajatar" instead, but that's not really neither here nor there as it's not supposed to be 1:1 Finnish anyway, but we do have multiple deities with that kind of naming scheme such as Aallotar (essentially a mermaid), Kivutar (Lit. trans. Mistress of Pain) is a spirit deity that heals pains and other ailments, but that form is also used very similarly as the English -tress suffix, such as "tarjoiliatar" , or "waitress" in English. Lastly I want to bring up "Tuonetar", literally means the "Goddess of Death", which is quite appropriate as that is also her job title as she rules over the Underworld "Tuonela", a realm of the dead in Finnish mythology.
@@cam7990 No. "Antaa" means "to give". Nothing more, nothing less. If you want to add authority to that, then it'd have to be something like... "Hallinnan Annatar". The Finnish term "Haltija" can be translated to mean both "ownership" as well as "authority". The funny thing is, is that the word for the Elves in Finnish is "Haltija". So if you REALLY want to stretch things... the faux persona of Annatar did appear as an Elf, or a Haltija, or "Authoritarian" (In meaning, not the political thing) which could be seen as Authoritarian Gifter, or "Elf Annatar". As a last point, the Finnish Haltija are not just elves, but also refer to other mythical spirits and there are various types; for trees, rocks, dwellings... anything and everything. They are protectors and guardians. Typically benevolent as long as you don't disturb the peace.
Its kinda easy to forget that Sauron is the *original* fantasy Dark Lord and that literally every single one that came after was based on him Fun facts: 1. The interesting thing about Sauron, and why Tolkien refers to him as the closest imaginable example of true evil to him, is that he's genuenly convinced that he's doing the world a favor. He believes that by removing all redundancies from the world that he would create a utopia of efficiency. The problem was that the things *HE* saw as redundat were things like beauty, love, humility and honor. He just didn't see the point with how warped his viewpoint was. 2. Arthas is actually canonically the only Warcraft villain who *WON* No joke, at the end of his raid ,and expansion, he basically one shots the entire raid group and reveals that he was toying with everyone and that the expansion was just him putting up a series of challenges to assemble the most powerfull warriors of the Horde and Alliance in one place in order to raise them into Undeath as his elite champions that would then scour the land. And he would have succeeded had Tyrion not shattered Frostmourne at the last second. And what's even scarier is that the Lich King the players fight is one that is weakened after losing his heart and one that was fighting with what was left of his conscience, which was the SOLE THING preventing him from just ending all life on the planet Add on top of that the fact that The Lich King got exponentionally stronger with every soul Frostmourne consumed and you get why Arthas is *to this day* considered one of the most powerfull and feared villains in Warcraft history.
@@BJGvideos yeah, but Tolkien's work is so influential that it literally became the foundation for modern fantasy. Elves, Dwarves, Orcs etc. didn't exist in the forms they traditionally do nowadays before Tolkien. Sure there were tons of myths, legends and folklore but it was all pretty scattered and somewhat inconsistent. Tolkien essentially took it all and compiled it into a cohesive "mythology" if that makes sense. And as for Sauron, he's literally inspired countless fantasy villains in some way. The Lich King is just one of the most popular examples.
@@diplow1 More than Sauron sure, but still predated considerably by older cultures. These sorts of tales go back long before whichever variant of Satan you're referencing was conceived. But that's kinda the point, a "dark lord" isn't an especially unique concept, so the "original" in this instance would be the most highly referenced. And that would almost certainly be Sauron in today's fiction.
@@BJGvideos I'm not denying them. There's just a difference between *fantasy* and folklore/ mythology/religion One is a fictional genre, the others are a collection of stories passed on by people usually through word of mouth and only later beginning to be documented in most cases (for instance Norse mythology apparently wasn't actually written doen by thr communities that it originated from until the Romans came along) If we go by the *broadest* possible definition of a fictional "Dark Lord" . Then , yeah, obviously figures like Chernobog and Satan predate Sauron by a landslide, its not even close. But again we're talking about *fantasy literature*
Fun fact, Sauron is the fourth oldest character ever featured in Death Battle in terms of debut date His first appearance was in the novel "The Hobbit, or There and Back Again", published on September 21st, *1937* The only three combatants that debuted earlier are Popeye, Sun Wukong, and Hercules
Amazing battle. Amazing reaction as always. But you should totally check out Joker vs Sweet-tooth. You'd both love that. The voice acting in that one is amazing.
Honestly ya I saw that one coming, the only hope Arthas had is that Frostmourne eats souls, I was hoping (I grew up with WoW as my first real game and The Litch King was the ultimate badass and I was so cheering for hime) that they would argue that once Sauron abandoned his corporeal body the blade would attack his soul
@@countspyder4769 well from what i can tell, it mostly eats mortal souls right? yeah i feel like frostmore would at best trap sauron for a bit until he either corrupt the lich king or somehow escapes
Sauron had this. Plus the sword Frostmorne is something that wouldn't have broken, but so were the gates of Minas Tirith, because the Witch King casting dark incantations during the battle weakened the gates of Minas Tirith. It is not known if the Witch King himself was doing it or was channeling that power. Either way, Sauron may have used that during the fight. Just a lore-based theory on my part.
Great reaction as always. Sauron had this in the bag. Arthas is a badass but Sauron is well Sauron. I tell you a good Death Battle would be Deathwing vs Alduin. That's a fight I'd like to see.
if we go by lore, all im going to say is alduin is actually immortal unless of course another of akatosh's children is nearby, but then again from what i know deathwing is a danger all of his own but im going with the dragon who's main job is to END TIME just so it can restart
I think Sauron used the One Ring to steal the Lich King’s power for himself, draining it from not just Arthus but also from the Lich King’s armor and the fragments of Frostmourne itself
Indeed, this episode was one of the finest of last season! If nobody else has yet, I'd like to recommend that you guys react to Kirby vs. Majin Buu. Despite being one of Death Battle's older episodes, it still holds up today as a joy to watch!
arthas just didnt have a chance. when you put a literal angel vs a death knight, the result is obvious. i also believe canonically deathwing is supposed to be more powerful than the lich king, so yeah.
The Lich King was quite possibly the most powerful opponent for Sauron among all other dark lords in fantasy, but in the end, there is only one Lord of the Rings, and he does not share power. That being said, they have very similar feats of power, persuasion, and domination under their belts. It's just that Sauron's been doing this for way longer and amassed far more power.
welp we've gotten dio vs alucard, hulk vs doomsday and sauron vs lich king. my top 3 favorite deathbattles at this current moment in time (theres a particular one confirmed for season 10 that might take one of the top 3 spots tho)
Arthas is connonically a stronger Lich King than Ner'Zhul and even then even Death Battle showed this matchup itself to be close so I don't think "maybe" is used correctly here.
@@matthewhanf3033 The jailer would have the power level to match a demigod as an entity of death rather than a pawn like Arthas or even Ner'Zhul, and at least has a couple millenia behind him for plotting and combat experience. He got done in easily by the folks in Azeroth but you gotta realize how absolutely cranked those people are. There's a doomsday event every three years in that goddamn world.
@@p.k.firaga6205 What i remember is that Ner'Zhul led several extremely successful conquests, before and after becoming the lich king, and that everything Arthas did in W3 is essentially credited to Ner'Zhul pulling bitch boy Arthas' strings. Not to mention that after Arthas finally was the Lich King with all the power on his own, he got immediately clapped and destroyed after a catastrophically bad campaign. Ner'Zhul lost to Arthas in a battle of willpower alone, but there's little doubt that his life experience of conquest and magics make him a stronger entity. Essentially; Sauron = Ner'Zhul Arthas = Witch King of Angmar
@@GinoSoldier In W3 Arthas was still a Death Knight so he would naturally still be in control under Ner'Zhul. I am talking about both during their time as the Lich King. After Arthas merged in with Ner'Zhul, he gained everything Ner'Zhul had. In fact, Arthas did not only win the willpower, both Arthas and Ner'Zhul literally became one as the Lich King. And even if we are talking about what they have achieved, Arthas have comparatively performed much better feats during his time as the Lich King from taking on more powerful threat Ner'Zhul never faced against and just being more successful to the point even the 25 champions of Azeroth couldn't beat him. There is a reason Arthas is considered the most powerful Lich King ever. And your comparison on that last part still makes no sense. You are just assuming Arthas is weak for some wierd reason.
This DB was great. This made me realize how much Lord of the Rings is inspired by the German "Nibelungen Saga" and I say inspired not stolen. With the dwarf "Alberich" who stole the Rhine gold to then have a ring forged with which he can control everything... Sound familliar right? And I don't mean that cynically, I think it's great. The great stories of literature have existed for a few thousand years. To come up with something completely new is not possible. It's like music. There are only "8 tones" roughly speaking. We only continue to celebrate and change them. That's why so many songs and melodies sound similar. The famous JAWS theme, which came about by accident on the piano, is itendtic to two octaves with a melody from Disney's Bambi when the hunter comes. Where I get cynical, partially because I didn't realize it at the time: the Eragon saga stole from LOTR, and not just a few things. "Rebellious Angel" so Sauron is basically Lucifer only he didn't become a prisoner in his own realm, he took over the Earth, or Middle Earth if you want to put it that way ^^ And for the record: I think Sam is the true hero of the LOTR movies.
I suggest you delve more into Tolkiens works here you will see that nearly all of his works are inspirations of old myths like Anglo-Saxons. Trust me you will not be disappointed
This was a pretty interesting Matchup, though personally i feel like Mordekaiser would‘ve been more fitting for either Sauron or The Lich King, still i feel like they did pretty well with this one.
Fun fact, Arthas was never technically defeated by players, instead it was actually Tyrion who, upon breaking free from the ice tomb he was imprisoned within, manages to use "The Ashbringer", a godly artifact sword created and designed specifically to smoke undead and leave nothing but ashes behind, to launch a surprise attack on the lich king who had just finished killing all the players and was in the process of turning them into undead to fuel his army. As the blade shatters the souls from within fly out, lifting the lich king off his feet with a broken blade in hand. Tyrion then uses another overpowered move to instantly resurrect all the dead players, and with arthas spinning in place, unable to defend himself, they gang up on him and manage to knock his helmet off. With the source of his power shattered and the helmet of domination removed, arthas has a moment of clarity, free from the tainted influence of the lich king, and sees the spirit of his father beside him, and utters his final words "I see only darkness, before, me..." To this day, there are still debates revolving around his cleansing/purge of the city known as "Stratholme" which was infected with the plague - Was Arthas crazy or was he the only sensible person there as all the inhabitants had already been exposed to the plague that would turn them into undead.
Tirion did not revive the players, it was The spirit of Terenas Menethil who got freed after Frostmourne was shattered with the words: "Free at last... it is over my Son... this is the moment of Reckoning! Rise up. Champions of the Light!".
@@TheWatschman Actually you are correct, but it feels strange to me that he even had the ability to do that. Not because the feat itself is impossible within WoW but because i don't recall ever hearing anything about Terenas having the ability to wield the light. Anyways, my original point still stand, the players actually lost against Arthas and was instead saved by the NPC's.
This was a great reaction! If you guys want some more Sauron-y goodness (and haven't already checked it out) then you should watch 'The Battle of Sauron and Finrod Felagund' by Clamavi De'Profundis, it's a really awesome rendition of that poem.
My fav Death battle so far I also won a bet as well ;) My gf loves Lich King and tbh i loved Sauron. Growing up i was always a Sauron fan and the reason i watched LOTR was Sauron xD (also can't say what the bet was it's non-youtube friendly xD)
Many people consider Sauron vs. Lich King to be one of the most metal Death Battles out there! 😎 And this clearly shows how metal these two Fantasy Dark Lords can be! 😈
Ok, betting phase. Not having seen it (the original currently runs silent in another tap so they also get a view for their hardwok), my guess: Arthas. You can't mindcontrol the Undead and no Army can stand against them... every Orc that dies is a Soldier for Arthas. OK 1:1 only... yeah Fair ^^*
You guys might also like the TJ Combo vs Balrog Deathbattle too if you haven't seen it already. Also, and I will continue to suggest a reaction to this channel until someone besides the one channel that does so gives it a shot, I highly recommend watching the "What if ___ talked?" videos by Press Start to Laugh. They are really clever and extremely funny!
When the trailer for this fight came out I knew that Sauron was going to win, because while Arthas is badass, in the end he's just a dude, while Sauron is a god.
One bit I honestly didn't like in this battle was that they really undersold Lich Kings durability. Rune blades before the Lich King were stuff of legends, incredible power, feeling light as a feather and radiating such power that the weapons name is synonymous with the wielder. Frostmourne however was a cut above that, having been forged by growing more powerful with every soul it consumed and shattered another legendary rune blade named Felo'melorn owned by an elven dynasty. It took the worlds greatest Paladin wielding The Ashbringer: A holy blade made for killing undead, and invoking a literal miracle to break Frostmourne. I heard people argue how Isildur's sword was a special sword forged by the elves, Narsil was a magic sword. Okay but let just name 3 legendary weapons in WoW. There's the Ashbringer reducing hordes of undead to ash with 1 swing. The Scepter of Sargeras, a magic staff that can open portals to other world. Lights Wrath, a unstable staff that would explode like a mini nuke of holy power if improperly used...and fanatics used it to suicide bomb the enemy. Warcraft weapons are just insane. To be brutally honest, I think Frostmourne would have cut through the mace and armor of Sauron with ease. But that aside, I would still say I enjoyed it because it was just an awesome fight.
ok, fat wise I said Saurion, but rthinking it that nerzhul destroyed a planet and plunged it into hell while he wasnt even the lich king is more impressive, I would go with Arthas as a winner
Yes! Was waiting for this since it has both of my utmost favourite franchises (not to mention the best of the best villains)! The fight was just epic and the voice actors were spot on! I'm also glad you guys enjoyed it^^ Btw, I know that you have a list of upcomming DBs but just wanted to let you know that when you're 1 or 2 episodes in RWBY volume 3, it would be a perfect time to do the DB Yang vs. Tifa (Final Fantasy VII)^^ The other RWBY DBs are better to be left for later as to avoid spoilers, but Yang is safe (only evaluating powers from the 1st 2 volumes) :DD Anyways, love your content^^
25 of the best nerds who got 1 hit and had to be saved by the Light aka one of the 6 pantheons in this world... Not saying Arthas should have won.. I am saying that Frostmourne at least should not have been destroyed... It took a biblical event to shatter Frostmourne and kill Arthas, while Sauron survived one...
I'm a bit late but Froddo wouldn't of actually destroyed the ring. if gollum hadn't of tackled him and then froddo pushed him off into the lava. the ring would of never been destroyed.
I'd like to be the first to say that I'm a huge fan of both LOTR and WOW, and have read most of the books in those works as well. So I dare say my comment will be food for thought. Objectively, the video is wrong. 1. Sauron lost his ability to morph after losing his body. 2. His armor and weapon are formed by his will with dark magic = not on the level of ancient artifacts capable of destroying Frostmourne. Even Sauron's body is created by the will and power of the ring = No blood. 3. the Lich King wasn't just a demigod like Sauron. He was the one who killed and enslaved the ancient demigods, demons and their magic. He literally had the power to kill and enslave creatures on the level of Balrogs and Great Dragons (creations of Morgoth), which even Sauron himself feared. Sauron was not afraid to go into only one type of conflict, and that was with mortals... and he was defeated by a mortal. 4 Sauron's real power has always been his strategic skills and the power of the ring to corrupt the souls of all who were in his presence. 5. Even if he didn't have the Eye of Acherus, the Lich King would have found out rather quickly during the duel what Sauron drew his power from. Bottom line, confirmed. This video is nicely done, but incredibly flawed done by people who may have had some sort of poll on Discord. The video would really make it look like there were 2 fights in reality. The first duel where the Lich King would cut off the ring of power. Sauron would have counted on that, like the good strategist he always was.He was counting on the Lich King taking the Ring and deploying it to usurp the new power, at which point he would usurp the Lich King and all his power. BUT Sauron wouldn't know that the Lich King had already experienced a battle of wills in such a powerful artifact. And that was when he, as Arthas, killed the soul of Ner'zhul (Lich King) while passing the power of the crown, which took 10 years. Thus, he would master the power of the ring and become an invincible force. P.S. There is much more power hidden in the Crown than in the Ring, which can be seen in the amount of destruction it will bring. After the Ring is destroyed, a volcano erupts and an earthquake destroys most of the army of Mordor. When the Lich King's crown is destroyed, the very fabric of reality is destroyed, breaking the barrier between the world of the living and the world of the dead. This comparison of power is legitimate, just as we can compare the size and mass of stars and the effects of their supernovae. The ring - a big supernova. The Crown - a giant supernova that went into a black hole. PS2: Here we are only talking about a 1v1 combat. In the context of armies, Sauron wouldn't stand a chance (LOTR 3 ghosts, imagine...). And even if Sauron had legions of Nazgholes, the Lich King would have no problem binding them to his will. Game, set and match - Lich King wins
@@AmericanBrit9834 "Biased" fanboy of both worlds. After all, that should be all the people talking about this topic. Or at least those who made the video and let the fan base choose their opinion instead of a thorough search.
This is one of the few DB's that I didn't quite agree with. I feel like they amped up Sauron by using Shadows of War and Mordor, which aren't canon. Also they downplayed Lich King by a LOT. For one, Frostmourne is a Mournblade created by an entity equal to gods. It was only destroyed because Tirion Fordring was THE most powerful holy Paladin in existence. He was also super charged by the power of the Light at the time he struck Frostmourne. And finally, he was wielding the holy blade Ashbringer which was made with a piece of a Naaru (a being made of pure holy Light) and it was basically Frostmourne's equal but opposite. Sauron absolutely could not destroy Frostmourne because Sauron cannot use any holy (good) powers to counter it. As well, DB forgot that Lich King is absolutely capable of manipulating souls. In the Halls of Reflection dungeon we (the players) have to fight off the souls that are trapped inside of Frostmourne. LK also turned Sylvannas into a Banshee, which is just a spirit without a body. Finally, Uther (the second strongest, or probably most strongest, paladin ever) was killed by Frostmourne and STILL bore the wound to his very soul even in the afterlife. So LK can absolutely harm Sauron by using Frostmourne, it doesn't matter if Sauron is just a soul. Also, DB was wrong about the island thing. Gul'dan didn't raise the Broken Isles, he only raised the one tiny isle on the bottom right of the image that contained the Temple of Elune. The other landmass you see in the image never sank to the bottom of the ocean. Just a nitpick to point out how DB didn't really do their due diligence when researching this fight.
Soul manipulation is pretty much the biggest trait of necromancer, and the LK is the most powerful necromancer in that world. So you're right, souls are his thing.
@@MrSurrealKarma Yeah, DB just kept focusing on the Plague of Undeath and completely ignored Sylvannas, Uther, Banshee's, other spirits and ghosts we fight in the game, and Shadowlands. I'm pretty sure they were planning to give the victory to Sauron from the get-go because Tolkien has a larger fanbase than WoW does, and they didn't want to piss them off. That's why they gave Sauron his Shadow of War/Mordor feats as well as compared him to another of the Maiar while ignoring that each of the Valar/Maiar had their own unique quirks and just because one had the power to raise a large island doesn't mean Sauron had that same power. I'm not saying Sauron wouldn't win, just that they drastically underplayed how powerful the Lich King is and this fight was slanted in favor of Sauron from the get-go.
I don't see Arthas losing in a straight fight. Isildur beat Sauron, and that guy was just a normal human. I imagine Arthas would still lose long term to the ring's corruption after taking it from Sauron.
Númenoreans are not normal humans, any more than Captain America is "just a dude" Gil-Galad and Elendil defeated Sauron after he had been in the destruction of Númenor, at the cost of their lives, Isildur basically took the Ring off the inert Sauron's body.
I feel like the real confrontation between Sauron and the Lich King would consist of them just sending hordes of minions at each other, without ever leaving their respective towers.
Maybe we can have someone like Beyonder force them to fight.

So basically Annatar translates to "giver of authority"
Or in Sauron's case, the false authority granted by the Rings of Power
Its kinda easy to forget that Sauron is the *original* fantasy Dark Lord and that literally every single one that came after was based on him
Fun facts:
2. Arthas is actually canonically the only Warcraft villain who *WON*
No joke, at the end of his raid ,and expansion, he basically one shots the entire raid group and reveals that he was toying with everyone and that the expansion was just him putting up a series of challenges to assemble the most powerfull warriors of the Horde and Alliance in one place in order to raise them into Undeath as his elite champions that would then scour the land.
And he would have succeeded had Tyrion not shattered Frostmourne at the last second.
And what's even scarier is that the Lich King the players fight is one that is weakened after losing his heart and one that was fighting with what was left of his conscience, which was the SOLE THING preventing him from just ending all life on the planet
Add on top of that the fact that The Lich King got exponentionally stronger with every soul Frostmourne consumed and you get why Arthas is *to this day* considered one of the most powerfull and feared villains in Warcraft history.
Original fantasy dark lord? His books aren't even a century old!
@@filipvadas7602 But to claim that this was somehow the original version of those things is to ignore those influences entirely.
There's just a difference between *fantasy* and folklore/ mythology/religion
One is a fictional genre, the others are a collection of stories passed on by people usually through word of mouth and only later beginning to be documented in most cases (for instance Norse mythology apparently wasn't actually written doen by thr communities that it originated from until the Romans came along)
If we go by the *broadest* possible definition of a fictional "Dark Lord" .
Then , yeah, obviously figures like Chernobog and Satan predate Sauron by a landslide, its not even close.
But again we're talking about *fantasy literature*
Fun fact, Sauron is the fourth oldest character ever featured in Death Battle in terms of debut date
His first appearance was in the novel "The Hobbit, or There and Back Again", published on September 21st, *1937*
The only three combatants that debuted earlier are Popeye, Sun Wukong, and Hercules
Amazing battle.
Amazing reaction as always.
But you should totally check out Joker vs Sweet-tooth. You'd both love that. The voice acting in that one is amazing.
Love you both Ken and Bethany!!!
Really enjoy your death battle reactions!
This death battle was so epic!!!
Thanks so much! 🥰😊🤗
😯 that’s a fun theory! But feels like they got this one right with Sauron getting the win. Though the Lich King is what really drew us into WoW 🤩
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 ya I totally thought Sauron would win, and he did deserve it, I was just hoping he would lose.
6:30 Wiz was totally ready to merc Boomstick
Great reaction as always. Sauron had this in the bag. Arthas is a badass but Sauron is well Sauron. I tell you a good Death Battle would be Deathwing vs Alduin. That's a fight I'd like to see.
I never thought about that and frankly that is a fantastic idea! They are basically world ending dragons so the match up should be fair.
if we go by lore, all im going to say is alduin is actually immortal unless of course another of akatosh's children is nearby, but then again from what i know deathwing is a danger all of his own but im going with the dragon who's main job is to END TIME just so it can restart
A Death Battle we for sure want to check out. Fat Kirby vs Kirby 😁
arthas just didnt have a chance.
when you put a literal angel vs a death knight, the result is obvious.
i also believe canonically deathwing is supposed to be more powerful than the lich king, so yeah.
You guys earned a sub. This is actually my favorite Death Battle and I am glad to see more LOTR and Warcraft love :D!!!
Arthas never had a chance. Now if it had been Ner'Zhul or even the Jailer, *maybe*.
The Jailer 😂
Essentially;
Sauron = Ner'Zhul
Arthas = Witch King of Angmar
"Rebellious Angel" so Sauron is basically Lucifer only he didn't become a prisoner in his own realm, he took over the Earth, or Middle Earth if you want to put it that way ^^
And for the record: I think Sam is the true hero of the LOTR movies.
I suggest you delve more into Tolkiens works here you will see that nearly all of his works are inspirations of old myths like Anglo-Saxons. Trust me you will not be disappointed
Gotta love Sam. 🥰 Can’t argue with him being seen as the hero of the story 😊
Overall a pretty epic Dark Lord fight.
This was a pretty interesting Matchup, though personally i feel like Mordekaiser would‘ve been more fitting for either Sauron or The Lich King, still i feel like they did pretty well with this one.
Morde would be so sick, he just doesn't have many feats.
@@Njnetsfan15 true, based on where you look.
With the source of his power shattered and the helmet of domination removed, arthas has a moment of clarity, free from the tainted influence of the lich king, and sees the spirit of his father beside him, and utters his final words "I see only darkness, before, me..."
To this day, there are still debates revolving around his cleansing/purge of the city known as "Stratholme" which was infected with the plague - Was Arthas crazy or was he the only sensible person there as all the inhabitants had already been exposed to the plague that would turn them into undead.

My fav Death battle so far
I also won a bet as well ;)

The looks on your guys’ faces were priceless
Many people consider Sauron vs. Lich King to be one of the most metal Death Battles out there! 😎
And this clearly shows how metal these two Fantasy Dark Lords can be! 😈
Yeah... I would have liked to have seen Arthas win here, but I knew it wasn't gonna happen.
Ok, betting phase.
Not having seen it (the original currently runs silent in another tap so they also get a view for their hardwok), my guess:
Arthas.
You can't mindcontrol the Undead and no Army can stand against them... every Orc that dies is a Soldier for Arthas.
OK 1:1 only... yeah Fair ^^*
They aren’t using armies in this battle.

Sauron is cool and all, but Morgoth/Melkor still my favorite LoTR villain.
When the trailer for this fight came out I knew that Sauron was going to win, because while Arthas is badass, in the end he's just a dude, while Sauron is a god.
You guys should definitely do a lets play of shadow of mordor and its sequel shadow of war they’re the best games in the lord of the rings universe
Ayy I enjoyed this Death Battle. Sauron was really incredible and loved his lines
Love the new intro

Still waiting on Thor vs Vegeta.)
I love the Lich King. But I knew going into this Sauron was WAY more powerful. Still a badass battle but Arthas had no chance.
Battle of power hungry dark knights.....though i was not surprised by the win since sauron was more evil than a trapped soul
One of my favourites (along with Lex Luthor vs Iron Man; still keeping my fingers crossed for that one)
8:55 you should also read The Silmarillion to get to know more whom is Sauron.
ok, fat wise I said Saurion, but rthinking it that nerzhul destroyed a planet and plunged it into hell while he wasnt even the lich king is more impressive, I would go with Arthas as a winner

Have you watched any Nestalgia Critic?
I'm a bit late but Froddo wouldn't of actually destroyed the ring. if gollum hadn't of tackled him and then froddo pushed him off into the lava. the ring would of never been destroyed.
I just want to reiterate: Sauron tanked the WRATH OF GOD.
also, i guess fire always melts ice.?

I'm not saying Sauron wouldn't win, just that they drastically underplayed how powerful the Lich King is and this fight was slanted in favor of Sauron from the get-go.
i expect lich king to win..
I would like you to do ForeverRed3000’s Star Wars Anime Openings, they are very well made.
I don't see Arthas losing in a straight fight. Isildur beat Sauron, and that guy was just a normal human. I imagine Arthas would still lose long term to the ring's corruption after taking it from Sauron.
Númenoreans are not normal humans, any more than Captain America is "just a dude"
Gil-Galad and Elendil defeated Sauron after he had been in the destruction of Númenor, at the cost of their lives, Isildur basically took the Ring off the inert Sauron's body.
Well, if Ilsidur is a normal dude, then Tirion is a normal dude too, and he defeated Arthas :-)
