    Bought a 35 deg guide and sandpaper kit and sharpened my first VPA single bevel head tonite. Very pleased with the results on a new set of heads. S7 tool steel can get really sharp and i only used 800, 1200, and 2500 with buff compound. I can only imagine if i started at 2 or 400 grit
    .Thanks for making a guide that works and like u taught us, the key is that burr ;) wonderful tools.

    I bought your systems a few years back for Iron Wills and Cutthroats.. I haven't stayed in contact but have to tell you that your system is the first thing that ever gave me confidence in sharpening myself. I had never seen results with any other sharpening system. I was going through my stuff and saw your 3d printed guides and thought.. I wonder if he's still making these. Glad to see your getting better and better! Investing equipment into the company. Super happy to see.

    Excellent job once again on getting a broadhead to an incredible level of sharpness. Additionally, thank you for highlighting the Broadhead Connection - it seems like a good resource for persons seeking to try a head out before committing to a large outlay of money.

    The Stay Sharp guide is really good, but sharpening those VPAs is a very time consuming process, imo sandpaper does very little, I invested in a set of Diamond plates from DMT, but even with the 325 it takes hours to get a usable edge.....

    I went with these heads and your sharpening guide. After working on two. I noticed after getting the sides extremely sharp. The front where the two sides form the "tip" was flat across like a screwdriver and did not come together to a sharp edge. How should I address this?

    I purchased the VPA 35-degree guide and find it impossible to get a razor-like edge. It will get "polished," but the edge is not as sharp as it should be. I am sure most of this is due to my "use" of the guide; however, I follow this video to the tee and am perplexed as to why I cannot get this sharp. Is there anyone who can help coach this old guy on how to make the best of this? Thank you.

  • @decaturridgebees8761

    What grit sandpaper would you have started with if you had shot into target? What about an animal?

    • @innovativeoutdoorsman5067
      @innovativeoutdoorsman5067  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the edge damage. If really dull or you need to remove some nicks in the blade, I start with 240 or 400 grit. If its just dull from target practice, perhaps 800. But then you finish with 1200 and 2500 and then buffing compound before taking it to the field to hunt.

    I’m having trouble getting a burr with 2500. I went down to 2000 for a long long time (2 full sheets of 2000 grit) and still couldn’t get a burr. Is it even possible to detect the burr at that grit with the post it note? I had a burr at 1200 for sure. It’s pretty sharp but not shaving hair sharp so I’m just trying to figure out what to do to get that final level of sharpness. I did strop it for a long time with the compound too just in case and it didn’t seem to change it

    • @innovativeoutdoorsman5067

      Make sure the the paper strip has a fresh cut end and you are poking at the burr at about a 45 degree angle.
