      Stay sharp guides do too. They are cheap and easy as hell to use.thy have the corner cut off so you put the head in woth an angle and the blade matches flat to the diamond plate.

    Been using this sharpener for almost two years, really does work well. Had a kitchen incident last Tuesday that required 7 stitches. The doctor asked how I keep my knives so sharp. He is dropping off his knives this week for a tune up. Hoping that WorkSharp sees the value in Broadhead sharpening and finds a way to hold the Broadheads a little better to keep from hitting the ferrule and/or clamp.
    Nice work 🤙🏼

    I have one of these , and this is the Perfect application for it ! I have a larger fancier version , but takes up a LOT of room. So I purchased this little guy. However I really prefer the larger for knives , SO HAPPY to have the perfect application for this fine little tool. FYI Gritomatic has a cheap little brace you can add under the arm that removes the bit of flex that hurts consistency. I found that a Big improvement. Thanks Troy

    I'm all about scarry sharp broadheads and I appreciate the content. No more stropping? No more single bevel? I'm sure this tool works great given the time to use it. I personally don't see anything being quicker, easier and more precise than a KME (with appropriate jaws) glass surface, varying grits of wet sand paper and cardboard with polishing compound. Thanks again Troy!

Upon your infinite wisdom, and your advice on how to properly sharpen a single bevel Broadhead. I experimented with interpretation of screwing this up. Mind you grizzly stick puts out a very good Broadhead/not cheap. And they came out. Oh my God razor sharp. Thank you ranch fairy. Thank you very much.

    I suck at sharpening broadheads, I've struggled for years, tried stones, fine sandpaper, stropping etc. and I'm just bad at it. I got this last night and spent more time than i care to admit using this trying to get the angel right etc. I got it worked out on day 2 and now I have one side of a double bevel broadhead shaving the hair off my arm! Thank you Troy! Now just got to do the other side then hit the rest of my broadheads.

    This device is a big difference maker in sharpening single bevel broadheads. I'm a big knife guy and know how to sharpening knives properly. With two cutting sides it's fairly easy but when there's only one side it gets a little more difficult, not really difficult but more time consuming when doing it by hand. And with a single bevel you have to be very precise, you don't have that other cutting side to give a little forgiveness. This device gives you that precision. Great video and glad you made it cause I don't know if I would've found this device on my own.

Once you have new bevel take it out the machine an lay flat on your stone to strop the flat back side. I use 320 to 600, to 800. It will shave hair at this point.

    If the cutting edge is not square to the clamp as the sharpening stone moves toward the tip of the broadhead the angel changes so your changing the angle of the cutting edge from front to back setting it in the clamp that way. The broadhead needs to be clamped as parallel as possible to the clamp to keep an even angel across the whole blade

    • @YoureSoVane
      @YoureSoVane ปีที่แล้ว

      Convex or concave require basically the same technique: you have to move in one fluid motion across the blade, without focusing on one spot more than the others. It's more of a sweep across the length of the blade than a drag up and down against the edge.
      I sharpen a lot of knives. It's something that you'll feel once you get it right. Some freaking Mr. Miyagi stuff but the blade will tell you what it wants. It'll make sense based on the shape of the blade.
      Also, pick one stone or a set for curved edges. The corners or edges of the stone will be rounded over time, or the center will wear out faster. That will work better for curved blades and not very well for straight edges in the future.

      id put the tower as high as possible (bevel side) - I think it will do 32. But yeah, grind them down. Once it is set, you're golden. Id put a spacer under the clamp so it doesn't flex around while you're grinding.

  • @walterbrown8293
    @walterbrown8293 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I get that the sharpener is good at being consistent, but this is technically not a single bevel correct? It's a single bevel profile for 95% of the broadhead but the edge itself is double bevel.
    Is this just because of the coating that you don't want to grind it off to get to the burr from a flat surface to keep the single bevel?
    With something like an Iron will where I can take the ferrule off would I have the same issue?
    Is this that much more consistent than a rolling clamp?

    So I bought $200 worth of your broadheads after watching your videos and sharpening with the work sharp. I do love your videos and agree with all you say but the work sharp is set at maximum 30 degree and your broadheads are 35 degree. It sucks changing that angle. I just hope they’ll perform once changed. Once again I love your videos just wasn’t expecting the drastic change in angle

  • @YoureSoVane

    If you don't have the time or skill to hand grind like I do, get a jig like this. Knife sharpening was my first marketable skill. I have about as much time sharpening knives as I've spent shooting arrows. Get a series of stones and strops. They don't need to be expensive, they just need to be consistent. Strops are cheap, and so is stropping compound. That's where you'll do your trial and error, and not more the expensive stones.
    And test your edges. Run your thumbnail against the length of the edge and feel for nicks and chips. See if it shaves hair off your arm or leg. Does it drag and cause burn? Or does the hair just pop off without resistance? If you cut paper with it, can you make sharp angles and intricate shapes or can you only cut clean in a straight line? That's how you'll know if it's sharp.

    Your saying iron wills arent adult broadheads? They are 32 degrees. And why are you talking about sharpening the back side of the broadhead? Your turning it into a double bevel that way arent you?I get get you have to break the bur off but you should keep it flat to break it so you don't make another bevel on the back. I will stick with my stay sharp guide and my iron wills. But I still love your videos.

    • @RanchFairy
      @RanchFairy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't remember talking about Iron Will (I did say if bevel is over 30 degrees this tool won't work....guess honesty isn't a thing. So I guess I'll have to watch my own video.
      And the compound bevel was COMPLETELY discussed. There is even a picture.
      WOW! You missed on that one. Put simply. a little bit (tiny bit) of a back bevel while remaining completely consistent......gets sharp and toughens the edge (This was discussed) and is supported by the tactical knife folks for durability....(that was also discussed.)
      You and the brand X sharpening jig folks need to stay in your lane. If you're NOT removing your single bevel from the stay sharp (which you didn't say) AND hand sharpening the flat side (yes I know this is the optimal way)
