My primary is any 9mm caliber gun. It has the stopping power when you need that Blow the Lung Out of the Body (BLOB) kind of energy. If you want to be One and Done, go for the BLOB firearm.
I'm a cop in what these days is a low crime small city. It is amazing how many people get their guns stolen out of vehicles. It is almost a daily occurrence. At least weekly. People leaving guns in cars is - in my opinion - the best way for criminals to get guns. Your vehicle is a conveyance in most instances. It gets you from point A to point B. Then you do your business in point B. The notion that you'll have time to get back to your car under most situations where armed encounters occur is just wishful thinking on the part of most people. Maybe very rural areas are different, but where there is civilization, there are car burglars, a justice system that keeps said burglars on the streets, and just crap-tons of willing victims who carry "car guns". The only useful gun in most instances is the one on you. Your truck gun isn't on you - it's in the car somewhere else, waiting to get stolen. I'm totally a rifle dude. Except my police car, none of my cars ever has a long gun in them unless I'm going to the range, a class, etc.
You should have a significant in vehicle security box. We the people, want you to have a rifle available, as you travel through our community, because of your training. That being said, I'm going to make changes to my security system. Fort Knox is one of, if not the best.
I totally agree. I don't live in a free country so we can't carry guns for our personal protection. On the other hand, we usually don't have stuff stolen from cars but every time I leave the car I have this terrible feeling that something is missing when I return. With that being said: In case something happens I just trust the gear I have on my body. That starts from training and fitness and ends up at gear I can legally carry.
Plus most gun owners advertise with stickers that they love guns and that their vehicle more than likely has one. I used to be like this but now, not one sticker or anything on my vehicles.
Agreed with lock box in vehicle. I carry daily but go to most all sensitive places where carrying is illegal, so I don’t get to carry into the buildings but I will have that firearm at my disposal if I can get out to it, I’ll be going back in to end it
Mad respect for my man bringing the budget build to the table. Not everyone can afford higher end weapon systems so it’s nice to see some of the lower tier options represented.
You mean you don't have a Aimpoint red dot on a Scalerworks 4" riser? At $1k? You don't have a PEQ 15 and mod block so it can work your IR laser or conventional laser or your Surefire flashlight? For $2K? What about a Proof Research carbon fiber barrel with a specialized gas port diameter and a one off twist rate for 1 type of ammo only sold by 1 company that will only work when its suppressed? $2,300? Come on man! IJK.
I also liked how he brought up having multiple uppers for one lower to keep costs down. You can have a cqb upper as a truck gun and have a reach out and touch someone upper in the bag as well and be ready for just about anything pretty quickly. That's the route I'm taking since keeping food on the table and a roof over my family's head is job one, defense is a very close second. That requires a balance of funds for each. If I ever decide to play the lottery and manage to win I'll I've a gun for every conceivable scenario in every room of the house, vehicle, shed, shop and the small cave. But since I don't pay the stupid tax errrr I mean play the lottery that's just wishful thinking.
PSA sells very well in my store. If they fire out of the box they will be reliable for a long time. The problem is the one where the builder wasn't paying attention... Oops I put in the firing pin retainer before the firing pin.. Yeah that AK didn't work but was a easy fix. The only other difference to higher end firearms is service life.
You know why I love these guys? They admit there is no clear answer and don't always agree on everything. If your trainer tells you they know everything and you are wrong if you don't follow them 100%, find other trainers.
True, you see this all the time. Quick example, a self defense trainer in Michigan was telling me that he trained soldiers at Fort Bragg for Combatives, Not knowing that i'm prior Army and trained at multiple fight houses. That was the last time I attended that class. A civilian Training Fort Bragg Soldiers.... Doesn't sound like some shit I would let go down as a prior NCO. Not to mention he wasn't even or have served in the Military period.
My respect for Paul just jumped up several notches when he mentioned his concern that a rifle left in his truck could end up in the hands of a bad guy. When I was a cop, it was astonishing how many guns were stolen from vehicles. I firmly believe hthat unless one takes additional security precautions, it is simply a matter of when, not if, you are going to arm a criminal. This is several orders of magnitude more likely than needing a long gun to engage an active shooter as a private citizen. I do keep a service grade handgun with a corrosion resistant finish aong with spare magazines in a lock box, locked inside my vehicle to augment my CCW pistol. As a retired cop with Active Shooter training, I can say John is correct in his concern that responding officers are likely going to perceive a man with a rifle as the shooter and not a good guy, while handguns can be temporarily concealed on the arrival of police until you can ID yourself to first responders.
In a world where most instructors preach that they have the only magical Elixer, it's so refreshing to hear and see different perspectives. There is more than one way to skin a cat. Thanks for keeping it real.
I've never seen any instructor proclaim that they have the only correct choice lol who do you watch that says that? In a world where sucking the ass of TH-camrs in the comment section is normalcy, Its not refreshing at all to see more of it😂
they not keeping it real if they think a 300 blk suppose to have a can on it. those bullets are slow and won't kill medium game. I only run supers in my 300 for animals and people for self defense
I tend to mostly go with the thoughts Paul shared. I live in Dallas so I don't want guns in the vehicle if I'm not in there with them. I also tend to think that most quick reaction situations don't readily allow for a trip to the vehicle to load up, while sometimes it's definitely an option, just not as likely, so I keep everything I might need right now on my person. If I need a lifesaving tool right now, and it's at home or in a bag in the truck on the other side of the mall or a couple blocks off the city square or something, then it might as well be on the moon. Pistols, spare ammo, medical, lighting, etc need to be on my body. Yes, it's heavy and a bit burdensome, but I'm used to it by now. If I have time to run to the truck and retrieve a load out then I'd probably prefer to use that time to read the "battlefield" and figure the best approach to the fight if there's even time for that. Home defense is different because I have everything close at hand at home.
The idea of the truck gun is that its in your car so its there when youre in your car and out and about. Im from Baltimore MD and moved to the middle of nowhere in Texas, although im currently at cooks childrens hospital in ft worth so i get the idea of NOT doing that cuz your car is more likely to get broken in to than you are to get into a gun fight. Currently my truck is sitting in one of the parking garages and im stressin out over the thought that someone might break into my car. Anyway I dont do the truck gun thing either but I do carry my g19 everywhere i go so i guess thats my go to.... Maybe i should do an ar9 build and throw it in a back pack or something
Totally agree! I thought that was a smart consideration--also liked John's comments on rifles in urban environments and law enforcement and public thinking immediately you're the bad guy!
@@spysweeper As an former soldier I would totally see you as a terrorist and you better Believe LEO/National Guard combat soldiers would immediately identify you as a direct threat then act accordingly to protect their brothers and themselves.
@@James-cr5mc yea, the truck gun idea for me is not a great one, except for specific occasions. I know guys who are all about some truck guns and various bags in their truck etc, who typically will only carry a pistol on them, and maybe a spare mag. I go with two 19s and at least one spare mag on my beltline, along with pretty much everything that people keep in an Ifak for medical in my cargo pockets. It's not super comfortable, it looks like I'm carrying something in my pockets, and I don't really care because keeping up with and carrying bags and packs all the time is not ideal for me. I don't personally mind having spare or more ideal equipment in the vehicle, but everything I may need at a moments notice must be on my person at all times. I just got home from having a son born at Parkland hospital in Dallas, and my girlfriend's sister saw someone going around checking door handles in the parking garage there, and the next night on the scanner I heard DPD had arrested 5 people in a parking garage (not the one where we were) breaking into cars. There was a time a couple years ago when things were a little more hot that I would have a shotgun in whatever vehicle with me, but I didn't like leaving the immediate vicinity of the vehicle and as soon as things calmed down I stopped bringing it. There's a lot of thought process about the topic that comes from military or LE perspectives, but that's not the context most of us are living our daily lives in. There's no radio for help, there's no backup, we're not arriving on an active scene etc.. if the typical day to day dude is involved then it's because it's going down pretty much right here and right now. Instances like Willeford and that church shooter are different because he was at home nearby, but for the most part we're gonna have whatever we have and any attempts to retrieve something from a vehicle will be either a waste of time or better suited for after the immediate danger is over, such as getting medical for victims after a shooter/shooters are inactive. That's what I see play out most of the time from accounts of these situations.
The gentleman in the middle is, in my humble opinion, the wisest of the three. One is more likely to get the “truck gun” stolen than one is likely to need a rifle to deal with a threat. I have carried a concealed firearm for 40 years (I’m 70) and have never had to use it to deal with a threat. There are, by far, more vehicle break-ins than there are scenarios where a rifle would be needed. There is simply no need to further arm the bad guys by providing them with an AR-15 to steal.
This looked like a modernized D&D character line up 😆 Left to right you got the Human Barbarian, the Dwarf Warrior (I know he's called a "battle gnome" but gnomes are too lanky even if jacked), and the Human Ranger (Id say Warrior but you brought the LPVO and like stand off distance). And if you brought in Evan to the mix you'd have your Bard too 🤣
A lot of good points here, fellas. I live in the country, and drive long distances in rural TX a lot. I do not keep a rifle in the truck, though I usually take one along when I’m on the road, securely stowed. I am far more serious about my trauma bag, which I have used on the roadside a couple of times, whereas I’ve never needed my rifle for an emergency. But these are weird times, so it makes sense to be prepared.
Valuable insight here. I also live in rural TX and I've used more "Stop the Bleed" training (mostly car/motorcycle wrecks) than anything else. But, you're right, times are weird. Doesn't hurt to carry both.
My truck gun / patrol rifle is a 10.5" RRA LAR15 SBR in 223/556 w/ YHM Turbo suppressor. I also have a Meprolite M21 reflex sight. Even as a police officer I am 100% an advocate for civilian PDW's. Civilians are far more likely to be the first to encounter an active killer in a public setting. I am currently also looking at kitting out a HK SP5K SBR for a backpack PDW.
With you being a sworn officer of the law, I'd like to ask... what are your interpretations of the 2nd regarding non-violent felons? Regarding currently free and post offenders? I ask because as you know, many, I repeat, MANY individuals are out and about, all around us in society everyday, technically felons albeit non-convicted, while others' supposedly "inalienable" rights are suspended or outright revoked. Period. Forever. Just genuinely curious to your position on this issue, and I'll understand(but not necessarily agree with) your "interpretation" of the "law". Myself, I am of the belief that natural rights are just that. Natural. And that God's law incomparably supersedes man's. I appreciate anyone's input on this apparent conundrum and it's hopefully obvious solution. Thanks. 👍✌
Yeah…I guess the only thing those citizens have to hope for is some untrained boy in blue not to kill them. Wouldn’t be the first time someone trying to help got hurt because of untrained police. In many ways, untrained police are far more dangerous than a citizen who has thought about and “knows” what he is doing. Truthfully, more than an active shooter, I’m worried about what happens if I were to react and the cops show up and think I’m the bad guy. Seriously, you have to admit that many if not most of your colleagues lack both the actual training AND the mental fortitude to react in a positive way during a mass shooting. And after the last couple mass shootings, it looks like the cops will probably just sit outside and wait while your kids or family are killed inside and there may even be reports of cops preventing people from trying to act. So, I’m not sure why ANYONE is supposed to care about what some police officer thinks about civilians carrying…nothing against you personally, just saying that’s kinda how it is.
@@firstnamelastname6216 SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED written in the 2nd amendment means CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAWS as written in the 1st amendment. I have always held the opinion that if a person is released from incarceration, having paid his or her debt to society you get all your rights back. The notion that you loose the most efficient way of protecting yourself forever because of a felony does not make any sense. If a persons crime is too egregious then perhaps they should remain in prison.
@@spacemanspliff7844 I totally understand! Society has a false idea on the level of training police officers actually get. Training gets worse the smaller the department is. They just don't have the budget. Civilians who choose to carry a firearm for self defense practice way more with their firearm than what the average patrol officer is required to do. I can guarantee you that their are officers on your local department who only practice with their duty weapon when it come time to qualify. Scary!
I’d say a consideration is a weapons platform that you the shooter can shoot accurately in a high stress situation. The best ballistics don’t matter if they don’t go on target.
Absolutely! People are SO worried about the newest latest and greatest, preparing for every possible imaginary situation.. you can spend $3000 on a gun and I’ll keep my $600 gun I actually train with🤷🏻♂️
I always appriceate the opinions and advice of the men that have been their and done that. Thank you to all of our veterans for serving, and for sharing your expireance.
Totally agree that the odds of having my car broken into are far greater than the odds of me needing a rifle while I'm out and about. If you're going to keep a truck gun, your first priority must be securing it against theft. With that said, since it's going to take a little time to access the gun anyway, I'd lean towards a versatile setup with some magnification that can be useful at longer ranges, as opposed to a setup that prioritizes CQB distances.
Best choice, or AT LEAST something equivalent to sonic ear valve type plugs... I carry some in a tiny little metal capsule on my keychain. Never know... you MIGHT have the ten seconds it takes to put them in, if you're trapped in the back of a store as a shooter makes his way in from the front, for example.
One better i wear and keep around my neck Bluetooth Beats flex and Beats Studio pro noise canceling ear buds in my pocket. I listen to music, news and TH-cam 100% of the time when I work so, I always have hearing protection. Step, futher voice activate an emergency number so you can detail the situation while keeping both hands on your rig ,while eyes are down range or on a swivel assessing then situation. Ears on and Comm's up!
So, if you’re like me and decided that you don’t want to open your home to the ATF or you can’t (don’t want to) afford a suppressor, a linear compensator is a good option. It helps tame the muzzle blast of shorter barrels and directs the blast down range. It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s a solution.
For a truck gun, people might be interested in the PSA JAKL (.300BLK or 5,56) - Folding Brace stock - Piston operated - Adjustable Gas System 3 big features that lend themselves well to both a truck gun, and using a silencer too :)
I live in a place where if you get pulled with an AR platform in your vehicle you're gonna be in for tons of hassle. So the "Contingency" load out is a 1866 Winchester in .45 colt, a Schofield in same, and a Springfield Trapdoor in 45-70 for distance (with custom loads). Ready made "Reenactor" explanation, but with enough firepower to at least disrupt an active shooter's flow, so to speak. Get in their OODA loop, especially the trapdoor. I know that sounds crazy, but it's what I have to deal with.

Josh made me happy with my decisions throughout the video. Including multiple uppers and 1 lower. First time that I have ever heard/seen someone else come to the same conclusions as I have. THANKS for the video!
All great points. One thing I’d like to add, when considering a quick reaction platform, is location. Where are you when you think you’ll need a quick reaction firearm? All have said where you plan to encounter a quick response. I think it’s a point of serious consideration, especially for first time firearm owners.
My quick reaction truck gun I went with a Ruger PC charger, since most of my time is spent driving a company truck I have to be able to fit everything in a nonsuspicious looking backpack. Since I live in a rural area in Alaska even though I work in a city, my main concern is large animals. 9 ft tall brown bears have been observed within 4 miles of my house more than once since May, so both my wife and I keep 45-70 gov rifles as our home defense quick reaction guns. If God forbid we get a human predator on the property, I'm confident that a 430 grain hard cast lead round moving 2,000 feet per second will have the desired effect.
I actually bought a pc charger for a similar idea, essentially when going somewhere for an extended duration IE family trip PC charger, in a backpack so its out of sight. and I found that you can pretty easily shoot it without any kind of buttstock or brace if you cheekweld the smooth area right behind the rail and put a sig romeo 5 or other high bore axis red dot on it and shoot it like the cheek pistol concept that demonstrated concepts does.
I am glad John "lost the argument" with Paul about suppressed home defense guns. I am with Paul on suppressing the gun when possible. Preach on Paul!!!!
Is it weird that I just want to hang out with these guys at a bbq? Solid info, solid dudes! Every bad guy encounter is different, the only constant should be our carry options and tools (both physical and mental).
I recently started using a MCK Roni as my truck\Home defense "rifle". It allows me to quickly up grade my EDC platform to something more like a PCC. I have the benefits of familiarity and confidence of my EDC and since its not a firearm, if it taken from my vehicle the bad guy only gets a kit but not a weapon.
I bought a used palmetto State lower, bravo company manufacturing upper ar-15. It is definitely my most accurate firearm. I'd strongly recommend bravo company manufacturing ar-15 rifles to anyone considering a firearm purchase. Also to those people, I'd say your carry gun is probably the most important gun you own during peacetime. Edit: on second thought your ability to own and possess the best weapon possible, an AR-15, is what keeps the peace in the first place.
@@adventurebound719 BCM products CAN be great. Always test your gear before you flex it into service. It's well known that some of their barrels can be over gassed. You guys are awesome! Thanks for imparting your experience! As an Air Force pilot, we didn't get to do much on the ground with weapons, so I appreciate you all showing us what to do when not in the air!
I have found that any night reaction kit should include hearing protection/sound enhancement capability muffs. They sit on top or inside on top of a mag bag wit attached blowout with tourniquets. Separate flashlight clipped to outside. Semper Fi
I'm guessing my home defense rifle decision isn't going to be the best for everyone, but I'm happy with it. It's an old Winchester 94 in 30-30 Win. It's loaded with 150 soft point ammo. There are 9 extra rounds in a rifle stock shell holder. No optics, just a Williams receiver sight I've hunted with for 30 years now. It's a good brush gun for deer and works for me in the town I live, even if a black bear decided to try to come in the house some night.
I have cowboyed a bit in my day. Lots of alone time. Lots of time to think. You start to see things, big things that you can't see when you constantly look through the microscope of the moment. Never had much use for politicians, still don’t. Always thought they were a pack of lying skunks, still do. Always had the good fortune to work and ride with decent and honest men and women. Now days, when I look out my window, I see my Country on Her knees. She has become gravely ill and I fear losing Her. Never thought this could happen. Guess I have to say now that this is part my fault. Never voted much and when I did, never looked real close. I figured other people smarter than me would make the right choice and then keep a close eye on things to make sure it was done right. Can’t say their choice was wrong, but like me, they didn’t keep a close eye. I started to take a closer look after that terrible day in September when the Towers fell. I hated what I saw and began to look back so I could see ahead. Seems to me after President Kennedy was killed, things started getting bad. I can’t fault any one man for where We find Ourselves today. Guess it is more of all Our fault for trusting men and women who We gave power to and then looking away. These few men and women are now consumed with an unbridled lust for money, power, control and fame. Not sure if any of them really work for the People anymore. What I see now is America heading for a hard, hard fall if things don’t get turned around. By now, this should be fairly obvious to anyone paying the least bit of attention. There may be no way to stop the storm which comes Our way and We all should prepare as best We can. Until common men and women of good character are elected from the lowest to the highest positions, things cannot improve, they can only get worse. We now find Ourselves in an election cycle. I would encourage all Americans to educate themselves on their upcoming choices and view with a critical eye the choices already made. I hope the time has not passed to leave America a better place than We found it. Thank You for Your time and consideration.
Amen. I'm guilty too. I trusted our politicians to be honorable and just. But a skunk is still a skunk. No matter how many baths you give it. And how much perfume you spray on-em. They still stink. Truer words have never been spoken. I am at fault also for taking my eye off the ball. I relied on others doing the right thing. Now it's time for ALL of us to get involved. Get information and take back our Country!!! God Bless America 🇺🇸

I'm all for it, great selections. I also understand someone on a budget putting an old .30-30 lever gun into service for the same reason. Diamond Back HD tonneau cover on my truck does a great job of securing my rifle in the bed toolbox. I won't leave one there in a big city (Phoenix for instance) but down here on southern AZ, I'm comfortable around town. For my truck gun, I've also started to use a Marlin 336Y with a Ranger Point Precision forestock on it cerakoted orange/matte silver to match the sling. Sports a Holosun red dot. Is the TQ to a buttstock smart though? (honest question) I've always been told you don't want to have to use a dirty TQ to stop bleeding cause it could make things worse (i.e. infections and what have you)
@@Delta_Seven if you are placing a tourniquet properly on the appendage then I would say it would have to be extremely dirty to make enough of a difference to cause an infection vs everything else that may get in the wound during the traumatic event including a dirty bullet literally going through you. I'd say if it garuntees you have a tq on you when you pick up a rifle every single time it's much more likely to save a life then kill you. Just my 2 cents.
@@Delta_Seven A TQ on a stock is not a good idea because it interferes with your left hand cheek weld. As Josh said, the cleanliness doesn't matter. For one, a tq is applied above the wound, not over it (I saw a lot of antifa guys trying to put TQ in crazy areas after they f-ed around and found out). Also the wound is already hella infected the second you get punctured anyways. There is tons of bacteria in the air as well. Infection is no priority though, as the latter care will involve cleaning up the wound by irrigating it before sealing it up permanently. I don't put a TQ on my gun because I carry an ankle blowout kit on my person always (since 2010). In home defense if I need to get up from bed, I strap the blowout kit to my arm so it is with me at all times.
My quick reactionary gun is my pistol. I too have concerns about leaving any firearms in an unoccupied vehicle. I do keep an appropriate rifle at the ready for home defense. Use a quality pistol, equip it with good sights and practice at long range in a realistic fashion. You may be surprised how capable that type of system can be.
Realistically, if you engage a threat at any appreciable distance, it's more difficult to justify the use of lethal force AND you likely have better options available. That's even more true once you reach your vehicle.
That ADD was the BEST add and possibly even the best skit I have ever seen on a gun channel. I woke up feeling sick and the laughter helped a bit. Damn that deserves an award and even should be on a comedy skit channel.
I like Masha's recommendation to have multiple uppers. I was considering making a 300BLK gun, but getting an upper for 300BLK and slapping it on my Pistol lower does seem a more economical choice. Thanks y'all! Great video!
@@armyfazer1410 how about "no." If you have a pistol lower, putting a longer barrel on it(upper) is none of their business. Buying a rifle, and putting a short barrel on it will make you suspect 1 to the boot-lickers. That’s what I did. I bought a 16” LWRCi M6IC DI complete and a BCM 16” 300 blackout complete upper to place on my LWRCi lower. Then I went and made a dedicated PSA Turkey Day lower w/Elfmann single stage trigger for my BO. Then a WMD Nickel Boron coated builder set. Next bought an Aero lightweight 14.5” P&W upper, which now lives on my PSA upper. Current plans are to build up my San Tan lightweight set (upper & lower ordered in 2019 just got Aug ‘23) with the barrel and handguard from my Aero upper and make the Aero an 18” longer range set up. My first plan with the San Tan was to make a 6 ARC but the ammo is still very expensive here in Honolulu so now I’m chasing a lightweight rifle. Down the 🐇 🕳 I went
👍👍 Spent probably half of our 2007 deployment to Diyala, as QRF and route clearance. Very similar to what we preferred. Optic and light were always attached. My personal preference; "less is better", all I want are some tritium tipped irons. 😁
Don’t really do a “truck gun” but rather an EDC backpack gun: AP5-P (MP5-k clone) with a Tri-lug mounted SiCo Omega 9k just baaaarely fits into a Swiss Gear backpack. Fairly discreet, don’t get a lot of attention 👌🏼 Previously ran a 7.5” 300 blackout with law tactical folder, which is probably actually a better option (ballistically speaking) but the MP5-k just has so much sex appeal. 🤷🏻♂️ 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
All good points to consider. I don't have a truck gun- because those get stolen. I have a backpack gun that I have for special occasions. I always have a handgun with extra mags and a light. Know your bullets and what you want or need them to do. It took considerable time to identify and acquire the proper rounds for my backpack gun due to the short barrel. Remember that many (most) of the rounds manufactured and tested are put through long barrels so they can put the best looking numbers on the side of the box. Lastly, no matter what you carry, you must practice deploying it from the point which you carry it.
Love the fact they still come to Utube to spread facts and information......I know full well WPS it where it's at. But feeding the algorithm and reaching out on all platforms is my mission.....🤠 And Yaaaaa for that!
Hearing helps you communicate. Say you fire a few rounds and mid-firefight you're trying to call out to your family but can't hear their response. Or even with multiple attacks, you engage one then other guys are talking somewhere else and now you can't hear their location. Suppressors are amazing.
Which I find just bizarre: when I grew up wooden AKs were what every movie baddie carried. Or Uzis. Black guns were good guy guns. Now we are living in upside-down world!
I appreciated hearing all your thoughts, philosophies and especially your differences in opinion in certain areas. There's no real one-size-fits-all approach to this topic.
I’m just an old c’boy from the past. If ya ain’t got it on ya, you just ain’t got it. I put my old 1911 out to pasture a few years back and now pack a ParaOrd Warthog .45 with double stack mag and a spare in my hip pocket. That gives me 21 lil sledgehammers to do what I hope never to do. “Head shots, boy, you don’t waste meat or ammo” was how I grew up and I got a whipping if I missed even once. I pack an elastic strap tourniquet of my own design in the same pocket as my spare mag. I figure if I punch a hole, I’d best try to stop the leak. You never know, I might just try to wing ‘em, and the hydraulic effect from that .45 is gonna make their ears ring and they are sure to leak. I learned my lesson in Tucson back in the ‘60s by leaving a good Parker side by side and a carbine in my truck unattended. Don’t do that!
For now i decided to keep my setup in a .22 caliber. It fits my budget for now, the ammo is cheap as chips and my rifle and pistol can share that ammo. It's not my long term solution, but I thought if things went down tomorrow, this was the biggest bang i could get for my buck. I do have pistols in 9mm and .40 too, just not a ton of ammo for them. Definitely a few magazines of some up close stopping power if neceesary
I completely agree with Josh, since that's what I'm trying to do. Put together a lower that I like then have a range of uppers designed by purpose. Was happy to hear someone else put a voice to that.
I live in a rural community, but travel considerably in and out of suburban and urban areas. My “get home” setup consists of 7.5” AR pistol with folding stock adapter, light, and red dot optic (currently Romeo MSR). This fits perfectly in a lockTote cut- and puncture- resistant backpack that is secured in my vehicle. I have 2 thirty round Hexmags filled with, quite honestly, whatever I could find, inside the bag. I always carry at least 29 rounds of 9mm as part of my EDC, so my plan is, if necessary, use my 9 to fight to my bag, disconnect quickly, then cover. Alternately, I always have a little more reach available should I encounter an active homicidal nutbag situation. Still a work in progress; when I started putting this load out together, 300 blackout was nigh impossible to find…
Loved this. Fun, clear, and detailed (intellectual) debate on various aspects of the subject matter. Great balance and accessibility. I need to work on my ammo and barrel length options for my black rifles (amongst other things) so this was pure gold for me. Took Pistol 1&2 in Wiggins, CO w Paul last month and hope to make a full week of it next year w Rifle 1&2. - Tony from Philly
Was my mindset choosing the two, but a Can, .300 upper, armor, packs. Work my way into better quality and added kit variability etc. I’m fine for the frequency of training I get, but I’m talking about all the “what ifs”.
@@rossinverted I’d get a 16-18” 556 upper before a 300 so you can effectively use range ammo in a shtf situation. I’m assuming you use specialty ammo in your 10.5” like myself. Definitely worth getting a can even with a 556 rifle.
Good for indoors but the open emitter isn't ideal for a do it all rig where the elements may come into play. I run one on a ks7 12ga and it's held up nicely though. They're quality for sure.
I hadn't considered having different uppers for the lower I have. Thanks for the tip Josh! John I bought your sling, I love it! the elastic strap works just as shown and I can make that shoulder transfer easily and that jedi clip..... sweet!
I just built a simaler 300BlK for a truck/active shooter. Running a vortex 3x micro with a vortex gen 2 UH-1. With a folding stock. Also run a ruger 57 with 20rd 5.7x25 as my carry. I love it
Love the variety, especially the budget build and modularity considerations for those of us that can't afford multiple higher end weapons and optics. Love John's "Nothing fancy, just a BCM with a Vortex 1x6" lol
Love to see more of these guys, (and the great bantering between you and Paul), also I hope we see more of Evan as Batman, such a great ice breaker before all the informative content.
My bsf has always carried two rifles & two vests One rifle was 5.56 the other .308 or 300 black out Always had 5-10 30 round mags each Full trauma kits Two pistols .45 ACP & 9MM He always carried just in case something went down We were in Downtown SA at a wedding and we didn’t get back to the truck till 3 or 4am & when we did we saw his back windows were shattered and one of his rifles that he kept out it’s lock was taken The trauma kit was taken One of his vests was taken

I’ve had 2 pistols stolen from my pickup in years past, got lucky and recovered one, so no more weapons stored in vehicles for me. I use a glock 21 w/ wml as nightstand/home defense and am confident in my ability to use that proficiently. I live in a subdivision and figure if I ever need to get the ar15 or tac shotgun out, then poop has really hit the fan and the whole home defense dynamics has drastically changed?
I run a 7.5" 556 AR pistol, with a folding stock, with a Vortex red dot and 3X magnifier, Olight weapon light, in a gray man backpack. I don't care what all the critics say about losing velocity with a shorter barrel. I challenge any of the critics to let me shoot them at 50 yards...
The blast and loss of velocity makes the 7.5" not that great. I have one with an SA piston that is ok with an DD Sandman but terrible without it. The shortest I'll run in a 5.56 Stoner clone is 11.5". A lot easier on your internals and more reliable.
@@welderdude1 - Did I not just say, "I don't care what all the critics say about losing velocity"? Again, I could care less about all the velocity snobs. None of you want to get shot by a 7.5" barreled rifle, end of discussion
Being retired SF and law enforcement, I have a tendency to "overdo" things. That being said, my primary CC is a FN 509 LS Edge with an Apex Trigger and I usually carry my "backpack" weapon a CZ scorpion with folding brace, Holosun circle dot, Light, and Silencer Co. can. As for my truck gun, I keep a Sig M400 with a Meprolight red dot, a flip out Eotech G45 magnifier, and a EOTech ATPAIL pec 15 laser system in the rack behind my seat. 👍
For my "car/get home" gun I have a CZ Scorpion EVO 3 with a 35rd mag and a folding stock and a Romeo 5. All fits in my 72hr bag with 3 extra 35rd mags and all of my basic at least 72hr survival supplies. I carry it almost anywhere I go. The kit changes with the seasons. For home I run a 10.5 IN Lead Star .300BO Sub(still eorking on supp) with a Romeo 7s and Juliet 3 combo. Super light weight, very durable and Lead Star is a Comp-shooting firearm line so I don't have to worry about accuracy especially for C/MQC. I usually just carry a Hellcat Pro on me and a P365 XL somewhere disclosed in my vehicle just in case I need to go Akimbo lol
For a truck rifle, I think cost is a big factor. My favorite truck gun is my PSA AKP with a sig romeo and a streamlight. If it was stolen I'm not out a bunch of cash but its built well enough rely on. I dont buy into the "bad guy gun" mentality based on how many anti gunners cant even identify an ar15 in a photo of multiple rifles. Black rifle = oooo scary to most average ppl
Identification is so key. Make sure you have stickers that identify you. "Off-duty first responder" or "medic" or "veteran" or if none of those apply, even just a big patch that says "good guy"
I run a backpack gun. Admittedly, it's a bit slow on the draw. To go as compact and discreet as possible, I put a DOLOS takedown kit on it. Along with the Law Tactical folder, it's ~20sec of assembly to get it running. It's a 7" AR pistol in 300BO with Dead Air can and Sig Romeo 5 red dot. For quick response, I'll go with my sidearm. If I have any time and cover, out comes the 300.
Great video, really enjoyed the discussion and different points of view on this topic. Also, the humour makes it go by a bit faster 😉. I know you all have access to multiple AR’s and such but what about a video on this concept using more “traditional” firearms like lever guns and bolt guns. Curious to see how you look at that from an operational perspective.
11:35 my thoughts exactly on running a truck gun for urban conflict or shooter response. I don't want to be labeled the bad guy because I've got a riffle in my hands if/when the cops finally show up. In addition to the point of not wanting to arm a badguy who just breaks into cars and got lucky with mine.
I’ve always disagreed with John about his take on suppressors for home defense, especially for civilians with no military or LE experience. I finally feel vindicated!
Don't get me wrong I like cans (sound suppressors) but if I'm having a shootout in my house with any number of intruders, the last thing I'm worried about is protecting my hearing. And if you're trying to be stealthy, you can still can hear a gun shot going off even with a sound suppressor inside the home. They're not exactly quiet, nothing like in movies. Personally, I rather have my neighbors hear what's going on three houses down so they can call the police. So I agree with John on sound suppressors for home defense. Just my opinion.
@@Yourmommyisbusy Not deafening yourself when you’re shooting back, or giving away your position from muzzle flash if you’re waiting in the dark; seems like valid reasons to have a suppressor. You don’t NEED it, but going *I DON’T GIVE A SHIT IF I CAN’T HEAR ANYTHING (BUT RINGING) DURING A HOME INVASION; sounds dumb.* Hearing is very important. Home invasions don’t go the way YOU planned, or want. That’s a lot of variables solved using a suppressor that can be obtained like anything of value; with money and time, worth it.
Great video fellas. As much as I love my AR's and let's not forget that sexy 300BO, I generally carry my Ruger PC charger with the foldable SD brace and a few 30 rd mags if I feel like I need something more than a pistol. It easily fits into even a sling bag and can be GTG in seconds.
Johnny Hurley, a Colorado hero who took down an active shooter with his concealed carry, was killed by police when they mistook him for the shooter. Any quick react rifle I would even consider having with me is being unloaded and dropped on the ground as soon as the threat is dealt with, assuming I survive.
I’ve thought through scenarios like this many times! Especially for church security. Making sure to clarify in 911 calls that there are good guys with guns, and also to make sure it’s out of sight and I appear as none threatening as possible when they enter the scene.
AR platform 16" barrel, and full mag with nothing in the pipe. Using a green-dot and a streamlight+switch and a WPS sling(they are sick). Its a house gun and I don't keep a truck gun. Carry every day!
I don't think anyone would argue with you if you said, "gear is cool." But that's not even half of the saying. "Gear is cool but only a tool, YOU are the weapon." All of my guns (with 1 borderline exception) are only utilitarian pieces. My full size Walther PDP is my EDC gun that goes on in the morning (when I turn on my optic) and back into the drawer under my side of the bed immediately before I lie down. I change the batteries in my optic and my light 3 times per year just in case. I also have my EDC rifle (short Bren2) beside my bed and it goes into my backpack any time I leave the house. I did sacrifice barrel length for concealment and portability but I don't see there being a tremendous concern for maximizing terminal effect of a 5.56 when it comes to having a rifle that is easily carried and concealed in a small backpack. It still launches bullets with over 1000ftlb of energy and I don't think there are going to be any realistic situations where I need to place a shot over 25 yards, let alone over 100. I've got a prismatic optic (an etched reticle and optional illumination) that will work regardless of batteries. It's an extremely specialized gun that I've put a good amount of work into and it runs like a top. The only gun I have that doesn't have an explicit purpose (aside from being fun and totally capable laying down see serious hate in a hurry) is a pieced together 11.5" AR. It's the serious SHTF "we're all gonna fucking die (WAGFD)" gun that can crack off around 800-900 RPM. It's just iron sights, drop in handguard, and nothing fancy but the internals. I couldn't see using it for much more than maybe when an entire cartel/gang is approaching the house as a group. But it's a helluva lot of fun. To me, the gear doesn't matter as much as the training/experience. As long as the gun goes "bang" each time I need it to, and the rounds go within 2" of where I'm aiming, I can take care of the rest. I think we have a tendency to get hooked onto the smaller details too easily. I know that I was that way for a long time. Here's how I look at it: who are you more afraid of, a random jackass carrying the latest-and-greatest secret-squirrel-decked-out SBR or a highly trained SOCOM operator with a 22lr pistol? You can't make up for stupidity with kit. As long as the gun will go "bang" when you tell it to, it doesn't really matter what it is. All it takes to stop a single active killer is 1 dude with 1 round in the chamber. Anything beyond that is just a bonus. People should spend more on their training than they do on their gear, but that's just my opinion.
with a truck rifle for "Active killers" i would be pretty worried about cops shooting you in the back 😅 police have no idea who the bad guy is and they are more likely to shoot at someone carrying a rifle without warning unlike a handgun 😅 and you can reholster and hide the pistol when not in use 😅 i agree with Mr Battle Gnome with the car burglary thing too 😅
Unfortunately, this happened here where I'm at in Colorado. The good guy shot the bad guy... Picked up his rifle for whatever reason and was then shot and killed by responding officers. I myself am an LEO and this is a very very sad situation. But I can say that if you have a rifle in an active shooter/killer situation you will (more likely than not) be either treated like a suspect and challenged as such as by LEOs or will likely be shot at by responders. Just the situation we are in right now.
@@ShooterMedic1818 So if you saw armed and armored people murder someone, albeit wearing uniforms, or were fired upon and survived, and rained back extremely lethal force, you would be innocent. They would be manslaughters or attempters there of. Just a thought. Martial law and policing are two different situations.
@@johnwurfel2862 Hello, I grasp what you're trying to say. But I think you're not getting what I'm saying. Not going to argue or debate here. I'm just trying to share a bit of insight. Have a nice day.
I’ve thought about that - if for some reason I have to draw, being able to calmly and capably re-holster my pistol. I practice that when I practice drawing.
My primary is any 9mm caliber gun. It has the stopping power when you need that Blow the Lung Out of the Body (BLOB) kind of energy. If you want to be One and Done, go for the BLOB firearm.
Me thinks I need another BLOB machine....
12 gauge mini slug shockwave :)
I prefer my double barrel shotgun, I just fire two blasts in the air and stop thinking.
🤣 Nice
you running Bidenchester Lung Blowers?
I carry daily but go to most all sensitive places where carrying is illegal, so I don’t get to carry into the buildings but I will have that firearm at my disposal if I can get out to it, I’ll be going back in to end it
☝️
This is truth.
IJK.
Some guy with a .44-40 lever gun shows up and cleans house. It's not the thing so much as how it can be used.
@@tangomantactical for real man lol
Absolutely we all know John keeps it real no matter the subject says it like it is
This
My respect for Paul just jumped up several notches when he mentioned his concern that a rifle left in his truck could end up in the hands of a bad guy.
Good to see the Battle Gnome again
@@James-cr5mc lmfaoooo relax man your truck ain’t worth stealing or worth breaking into. Just relax dude lmao take chill pills
I had the pleasure of meeting Stephen Willeford at an academy on accident. Such a humble, compassionate man. It truly was an honor.
LOL John’s face at 4:36 when Paul said he’s running a suppressor on his home defense gun.

John isn't wrong much but I don't buy into "no suppressors for home defense". I like my hearing. At bare minimum a SME from Witt Machine.
Don’t let John FOOL everyone… we ALL know almost every rifle he owns is outfitted for use w a suppressor!!
I dont follow this logic. Why would we want to shoot a 5.56 out of a 11.5" or 12.5" inside our hallway WITHOUT a suppressor, if we had the option?
This looked like a modernized D&D character line up 😆
Left to right you got the Human Barbarian, the Dwarf Warrior (I know he's called a "battle gnome" but gnomes are too lanky even if jacked), and the Human Ranger (Id say Warrior but you brought the LPVO and like stand off distance).

I’m with ya. My truck gun is my sidearm. I never have had the need to carry a long gun but never ever leave home without my trauma kit!
Valuable insight here. I also live in rural TX and I've used more "Stop the Bleed" training (mostly car/motorcycle wrecks) than anything else. But, you're right, times are weird. Doesn't hurt to carry both.
@@robburke8867 an AR is not a long gun. It's a pistol. But, I see your point. Just remember that 2 is and 1 is none.

Scary!

Totally agree that the odds of having my car broken into are far greater than the odds of me needing a rifle while I'm out and about. If you're going to keep a truck gun, your first priority must be securing it against theft. With that said, since it's going to take a little time to access the gun anyway, I'd lean towards a versatile setup with some magnification that can be useful at longer ranges, as opposed to a setup that prioritizes CQB distances.
in hese days of woke, you let he air out of an ANTIFA terroris a 100-200 yards and prison is in your future. not right but reality
Also agree. Just get a folder and carry it with you in a backpack vs leaving in your parked car.
Active ear-pro is a consideration; it allows enhanced hearing to help locate intruders, as well as protect hearing.
Another option for us poors and/or in a legally challenged state is a blast shield or cover like Griffin Armament’s.
100% agree
For a truck gun, people might be interested in the PSA JAKL (.300BLK or 5,56)

I live in a place where if you get pulled with an AR platform in your vehicle you're gonna be in for tons of hassle.
So the "Contingency" load out is a 1866 Winchester in .45 colt, a Schofield in same, and a Springfield Trapdoor in 45-70 for distance (with custom loads). Ready made "Reenactor" explanation, but with enough firepower to at least disrupt an active shooter's flow, so to speak. Get in their OODA loop, especially the trapdoor.
I know that sounds crazy, but it's what I have to deal with.

I tried the charger too, but transitioned to a Kel Tec Sub 2000 for the weight reduction.

Respect to the Winchester setup.
The 94 has put plenty of men in the boneyard. Nothing wrong with that. At one point in time it was as state of the art as any modern rifle. Respect

Way to go Paul. Your vehicle is not a holster. If broken into, you just armed a criminal.
Also, excellent idea mounting a CAT TQ on the buttstock.
@@joshmoore4498 that makes sense actually lol thanks man that makes things alot easier on me than stuffing 4 fecken TQs in 1 big ass IFAK lol
@@Delta_Seven I say if you're using a TQ, you got bigger problems to worry about than an infection which you can get antibiotics for later.
You may want to check with the ATF on that.
@@armyfazer1410 how about "no."
If you have a pistol lower, putting a longer barrel on it(upper) is none of their business. Buying a rifle, and putting a short barrel on it will make you suspect 1 to the boot-lickers. At that point, you're better off just stacking up all the felony charges and drop in the lightning link, solvent trap and vertical grip. 😄

The Battle Gnome wants bonus kills. That's God's work he's doing. He has you there, John.
Dude, that Batman skit was hilarious! Leave it to you to both inform and entertain. Good stuff!
I'm definitely with Paul's thinking on this one (ie suppressed vs unsuppressed) - It's a party and everyone is invited!
You got it, I want the howl neighborhood to know something is going on.
@@YippeeKiYayMrFalcon plenty of party favors to go around.

Not deafening yourself when you’re shooting back, or giving away your position from muzzle flash if you’re waiting in the dark; seems like valid reasons to have a suppressor.
You don’t NEED it, but going
*I DON’T GIVE A SHIT IF I CAN’T HEAR ANYTHING (BUT RINGING) DURING A HOME INVASION; sounds dumb.*
Hearing is very important.
@ Tim K : Wow ! That's so cool that you have that all figured out already !
"running suppressed...this is my home defense gun"
John's face. 😂
It’s important to protect the ears, bud. 👂🏼
AR platform 16" barrel, and full mag with nothing in the pipe. Using a green-dot and a streamlight+switch and a WPS sling(they are sick). Its a house gun and I don't keep a truck gun. Carry every day!
I have 10 different slings including the popular Magpul... The WPS sling is, no contest, the best I've ever used.
All the things you guys said is very important, but I would add training with whatever gun you select. Stress testing your gear and set up is HUGE!
I don't think anyone would argue with you if you said, "gear is cool." But that's not even half of the saying. "Gear is cool but only a tool, YOU are the weapon."
All of my guns (with 1 borderline exception) are only utilitarian pieces.
Well it's why cops suck
