My first gunfight...from a street cops experience. I am 51 and retired now, I spent my career mostly as a street cop. On Easter Sunday 2000 I was at a house with a subject wanted for stealing a car. To make this a short story he ran from me on foot, I chased him...he ran into the basement of his parent's home from an exterior entrance...as I made my way after him into the basement he shot at me from about 15 feet away with a .270 rifle...it was loud, and I felt the pressure wave...instantly my adrenaline kicked in and I returned fire (and never heard my own return gunfire)...during the shooting investigation I was asked how many rounds I fired, and I said "one" because that is truly what I thought...come to find out I actually fired 5 shots off...and I was so focused on the threat that I missed the bad guy and I shot his rifle...adrenaline does some weird shit.

@Getmadmaybe? look into the gun shooting testing for most departments. Its honestly not the highest standard. Leo's should definitely be training on their own time cause departments dont provide it.
I do armed security and we had to take the same shooting test as PDs in the state. I never shot a handgun before but watched alot of YT videos and I passed. Just proving it's easy to pass for most people.

I'm an automotive locksmith. In 2020, I went to make a key for a stranded car in Memphis TN. The guy set me up and got my guard down with the initial phone call, because he said I was referred to him by someone else. When I arrived on scene (at an apartment complex in broad daylight), there was a guy leaning up against the front of the car. There was another guy about 10 yards away giving the appearance of talking on a cellphone. I exited my vehicle through the passenger sliding door and walked around the front of my vehicle. By the time I got to front decal of my vehicle, the guy on the phone closed the distance with a pistol drawn and actually pushed it into the back of my head. At this point, the guy who was leaning up against the hood, drew a pistol and pointed it in my face. The back door of the car then flew open and another guy had an AR style rifle pointed at me. They were all yelling commands to give them everything I have. I gave verbal compliance by telling them, "relax guys I'll give yall everything I have. Just relax. Here's my wallet and keys." At this point I reached into my pockets and threw my wallet and keys on the pavement at their feet. Right when my stuff hit the ground I bolted in the opposite direction at an angle to avoid the rifle guy, as he remained in the driver's side backseat. They didn't fire a shot, and they just ended up leaving the apartment complex. Gotta remain aware of strategies to retreat with your life when you are outgunned. Cheers. Stay frosty, maniacs.

just going to the range IS a form of stress innoculation. if gunfire breaks out, people freak out because they've never heard it, it's scary AF, and panic sets in just based on the bang. people who go to the range a lot get used to comnunicating with each other through gunfire. also, recoil management means spending hundreds/thousands of rounds learning the pulse of your firearm, such that discharging it accurately & repeatedly will no longer be challenging. shooting guns safely & routinely is definitely a step towards acclamating to the stress of shooting, which is nowhere near the same thing as the stress of a gun fight; but it's a step.

@Daniel Johnson That is a hard call to make, especially when he already has the drop on you. Commendable! Being able to read a situation, and talk an escalation down is always the better option if possible. Also, people forget about retreating from a situation with bad odds, and repositioning with cover, and better situational awareness will offer you more options including may be not having to pull that trigger. Once you do pull the trigger, a whole new set of circumstances and consequences enter into the equation... Some of that was covered in the video...

Bottom line: train train train. If you have confidence in your training and believe it has prepared you to engage an adversary effectively by giving you the tools to win, that goes a long way toward building the kind of confidence you need.
One very important element in training is being efficient and confident in your shoot/don't shoot scenarios. Too many LEO'S have died because they waited too long to act and end the fight, because either they found out that they were actually unwilling to shoot another human being, or they were afraid of presumed legal consequences.
When I was a LEO, I put my house in my wife's name. I can truthfully say that I never was afraid of having to make a life or death decision. I always knew where the threshold was, and was committed beforehand to observe it.
Lastly, as a now elderly civilian, I intentionally keep a low profile. Still deadly, but more or less off the radar of most people.
    Thanks for a good vid.

30 and under, and now that I am a civilian and working with that age-crop much more often outside of the family in boots, who are a poor cross section to compare against when sizing up society-at-large and it's shortcomings, I would say that there's a better than 75% chance that was a teachable moment.
I'm giving some credit to the Zoomers {I;m the father of an almost 26 year old} that I mostly do NOT extend to the Millenials {obviously there is an exception to every rule...or "a waiver"}, and this is just based on many years of REALLY trying to put in the effort to turn that lightbulb on above their head without using a Nintendo or XBox Controller to access the menu for said lightbub.

I overheard a conversation between some customers at work the other day, and they were talking about civil conflict, and they were confident that it won't come to where they live, and if it does, they'll shoot back. I interjected and said, "if it comes to that, we all lose." Their response? "Hell no! Texas is gonna win." There seems to be a growing number of people thirsty for chaos, and they have no idea what they're ordering from the bar.

The thought process was to get you used to operating with a high heart rate during a fight...your heart ❤ rate will be high in any life threatening situation.

    Ways He said.
More guys with more accurate shots
Don’t get stressed out and weak at the knees(Don’t get overwhelmed)
    Think clearly
    Manage your adrenaline
Just because you’re shot doesn’t mean you’re out of the fight, the tide can shift.
Winning doesn’t always meaning killing the other person, it can also mean coming home or avoiding it, that’s also winning.
Good training, anyone can but gear.
Be able to move, cardio and being in shape helps.
Thinkers before shooters, don’t murder someone just because you thought they were sketchy, know your state laws and abide by them, wait until the threat is actually a threat.
Don’t let it be a fair fight
Be honest with yourself, find your weaknesses and work on them.

Ik it's an old video but I've just finished a month of daily breathing practice meant to work as stress inoculation. Works like a charm. The protocol is based on some of the most recent research (which means it's not in weird articles or approved by the FDA) but if it works for people with debilitating PTSD and anxiety, but also, interestingly, depression and a related conditions. It's very similar to the wim hof thing, 5 minutes a day of focused, voluntary heavy breathing combined with as long of a breath hold as possible (on exhale). Dumps as much adrenaline into your system as your glands can produce.
The 5 minute mark is mostly important in the context of health and dealing with mental illness (basically if you do it for longer brain enters the constant threat monitoring mode and raises the cortisol levels for a long time which is very draining, suppresses testosterone, makes it hard to focus etc., while the characteristic psychological profile of the high speed boys shows they can flip the danger-relax switch on demand and have their avg cortisol levels very low).

Good training, anyone can buy gear.

@ about 18:45 “avoiding a fight and you got the win” is one of Sun Tsu’s best tactics from The Art of War: “The greatest victory is that which requires no battle.” And it is one of the hardest tactics to master. Far more often than not, engaging brain before putting mouth or physical action in gear is what will save you or your team’s bacon. This is especially true if you are by yourself.

China has literally been winning World War III for well over a decade and their enemies have no damn clue that they're losing a war. It's genius.
Same with Civil War II. Most Republicans have no idea a war is being waged. They think it's politics.
They erroneously think that explosions are required for war. Like it's 1940.

The issue is... being unfamiliar with it, or letting it do any additional things to your thought processes other than increase focus.
