The Kydex tourniquet carrier is by a company I used to own, IBX Tactical. I designed that carrier specifically for the Greenville, NC Emergency Response Team. They needed a one-handed, tension-adjustable, easily-reloadable TQ carrier. It was pretty popular. I ended up making one for every patrol officer in their department and a bunch for surrounding departments as well. I sold the company to one of the GPD officers and he still makes an updated version of the carrier and other custom Kydex as well. @@alexmaurice4274 if you want a better option than crye but a bit pricey, first spear combat shirts are great, they do use wool but the did some dark magic to it were it’s comfortable, breathable and wicks sweat their combat shirts are also flame retardant which is great, they don’t have those cool colors like crye does, first spear just got the basics, Ranger green, black, Coyote, and I believe commando the color of that is hard to describe it’s like a mix of green and brown but has more of a brownish tone to it

Supply was dropping and local law enforcement was trying to force us to finger print and take a picture of anyone who was buying, selling, trading, or even just shooting in the range. The D-Ring can also prevent one from falling out of their office chair, if anchored to the desk properly. The ability to quickly remove the outter belt from the inner is essential if one needs to engage in a Tactical Breakdance Fight. Its best that one have a Herbie Hancock playlist at the ready if such a case arises.

Best budget “tactical” ish pants I can recommend for ANYONE is the LAPG Atlas pants. They stretch in the right places and have rip stop everywhere else. They are $39.99. I wear them everyday at work and they last
What kind of work do they hold up against, and would you say that the wearability is functional enough to run miles in? Like if one were to train in them? Is it tough as work jeans, or at least relatively durable?
Honestly, for anyone on a tight budget LAPG makes some decent stuff: their Atlas pants and shirts fit well and are fairly durable, and their plates & plate carriers are hard to beat for the money. I'm not at all saying they're top of the line stuff, or compare to the stuff John has, but for folks who can't afford $400 worth of camo and $500-1000 worth of armor, they're a good option.

Not having been a .mil door kicker I really appreciate this. My days as an LEO doorkicker were so long ago that we considered 60 lumen surefire flashlights as the ultimate illumination device and would have KILLED for NODS! At my age I doubt I could really profit from this kit, but it is CERTAINLY nice to educate myself. Thank you Sir!

Also one thing to add to this load out, a paint can opener. Allows you to get jammed non ejected casings out and can retain it with string, paracord, onto your molle with the circle end of the pain opener.

It's funny. I can appreciate the amount of short sweet details and direction he'd give when it comes to gear. He's the reason I have eyes on vickers blue force gear slings and tier 1 holsters. I feel personally attacked for my choice of truspec wear though :/
Another consideration for a D-ring on a duty belt, even for civilians, is if you have a dog (hopefully a well trained one), you can use that D-ring for a belt mounted leash/tether to be hands off and still have your dog tethered to you if need be.
Good to hear! FYI - I like the HRT one more (obviously because we don't even carry the Velocity one) because I could never seem to get the shoulder straps right on the Scarab. One shoulder would always feel tighter than the other one no matter how much I played with them. Both carriers are truly great though so I don't think you need to trade out.

Remember, deny anyone that says "armor and camo is reserved for the military". That's one step away from saying that guns are only for the military. It's actually nice to see that plate carriers, helmets, and full rigs becoming more mainstream with the general 2A population

But my father joined because of 9/11 and it resulted in him not being around a majority of my childhood. Anyhow I think because of the fact that 9/11 wasn’t like Pearl Harbor in the fact that Al queda didn’t have the capability to invade America and change the entire American way of life as Japan could have potentially. Many people forget just how close Japan was to San Francisco so I feel in many ways that the motivations of getting into the wars differed a lot. You aught to look into a waterproof DMR radio to replace those Baofengs. TYT makes a good one that's k-plug (mic plug) compatible. We have them pre-programmed for sale on *Greyman Network* and you can head over there and ask questions.
If your a tiny bit Tech Savy you can take apart the Cheaper PTT swith box and add a tiny bit of M3 4000 product, it's like RTV but it bonds to almost anything and holds a seal. Between that and some self made gaskets I managed to waterproof my Baofend UV-21R and PTT switch.

@@WarriorPoetSociety I just came across one of the Shadow systems pistols at my local Pawnshop and picked it up along with a custom Swarez Glock 19 which was almost twice the price and to be totally honest I don't see a difference in the quality or shoot ability of either aside from the trigger pull feels lighter on the swarez.
Hey John, a tip for the shoes I learned from a runner friend of mine, buy two pairs at a time and cycle them. I know it doesn't make sense but shoes that usually lasted me a 6 months were lasting well over a year when I alternated. It's helped alleviate the costs for a bit of a bite upfront
This is a really great video. You know what's the best that money can buy but you also realize most of us don't want to spend that much money. You married the two together with the best bang for your buck. I have been watching videos, reading articles, and studying stuff for a few weeks trying to wrap my head around the best bang for my buck in a battle belt, pouches, etc... Here's something I've really learned with kit. There is no reason to overdo it. Go a mile in the kit on a treadmill or run round for a minute in your house and you'll tell fairly quickly what needs to come off, move, or modify. As someone like myself with asthma, you have to try to keep things as light as possible but also carry enough.
I learned from one of the operators on Spiritus gear videos that storing the AMPS on top of your helmet will wear out the springs, it’s better to fold them inside the helmet. Hope this helps in making your and my $900 purchase last longer
For anyone curious, this is what most would call a “direct action” setup. Most civilian defenders are probably not best served with a setup like this. You may be, but consider taking a critical look at likely scenarios and see if a setup like this would be most advantageous. For most just getting into the game of preparedness, and seeing this setup and all the dollar signs attached, consider doing a general purpose, hard sawn, chest rig. E.g. LBT lock and load, mayflower, etc. 👍🏼
Mayflower chest rig swiftclipped into a trex arms AC1 with hoplite 26605 plates is what Im rocking right now, and it’s worth every penny for the complete setup.
Yup, this is definitely a Door Kicking/Direct Action set up (Thanks John, for making the bar so high ;p). Vast majority of us can get away with a plate carrier and helmet, or even just a plate carrier. Everything else is optional. I personally use a war belt because I use it for two gun. I have a set up I can throw on under a min.
For us old guys that like BDU’s, I have found Propper to have the best fit (for cheap BDU’s). Truspec BDU’s are extremely baggy on me. So true about the food and water. I look at videos today and always wonder why they always leave water out of their kit.
I am very skeptical of nearly all “personalities” and folks I just don’t know in person/have met. After watching John and WPS for a few years now, I feel I can trust this knowledge and that it’s not simply another click bait type Internet personality. Thanks for keeping the torch lit for reasonable men in the country.
Side note: the duration plates are made by ferro concepts, and that company just got hit with a bunch of letters from the Fed's. DHS/FBI/DOJ/ETC... they're saying the NIJ testing group pulled some random lots for inspection and failed horribly! And it's also implied that they cut a bunch of corners after the inspection units were stamped g2g...etc... this is NOT a shot at the armor company, but if I were looking for something to srop a bullet and save my life, I'm not buying anything from a company with all that shit happening.

When I see all this kit that’s available these days it truly staggers me. I joined up in 1990 aged 1 week after I was 17. I was given boots made by the lowest bidder, this is a true fact that they used compressed cardboard in the soles. I was given a pair of DPM trousers & jacket, NOTHING like the stuff u see these days, a green normal button up shirt & a woollen jumper n that’s it. ZERO Gortex available & we went out in -10 conditions wet for days. Radios were hated heavy bricks, the batteries made up half the size of the “portable” radio & we had to share at least 4 batteries between us due to the weight, just 1 battery was easily bigger than an ammo can. Our webbing was pre moulded super thick n stiff hessian type material that shrank in the rain so it severely shrank when wet “which was always” that you could not put it back on. Ear protection, ear what….. not heard of. Helmet was metal n 0 padding just a well worn in leather straps instead. None waterproof gloves which to this day I swear they made my hands colder, then ammo, water “LOTS”, full big size 24 ration pack at a minimum in fact the only decent stuff we had was our 7.62 FN FALs & the awesome belt fed “more weight” GPMG squad weapon. In fact it’s surprising that more of us didn’t die, oh wait……
You would have loved the early '70s - I had to carry a PRC-25 (affectionately known as the Prick25) once for a training mission, but ended up carrying TWO when a fellow Prick pooped out. If I remember correctly, that -25 represented its weight. This, in addition to the M14, full helmet, kit, everything . . . you felt more like you were training for a decathlon or something.

I remember that those PRCs seemed to have a battery life counted in minutes not hours lol, & the amount of battery bricks we had to each carry was ridiculous, especially bad in the cold when it was hard to even get 20mins before a battery change, it wouldn’t of been to bad if we could discard them once flat but we had to bring them all back, fully charge them & the regiment fully turned around ready to go out again before we could even go back to the barracks.
@@waynegroves6922 I remember doing a long nav/recce exercise with the old ANPRC-77 and the old ALICE webbing/packs here in Australia at Cultana for laughs. Can honestly say that those Vietnam-era guys were something else. Uncomfortable, heavy and not fun at all.
I think the most important part of your gear choices when you're running on a thin budget is understanding the limitations of your gear, and training around that. I'm running RMA 1155 plates in a Spartan Armor carrier, a surplus MICH and my go to rifle for general purpose is actually a 16" Bushmaster. I paid $375 out the door for the rifle, I've never had FTF issues with it, and if the rifle craps the bed on me, it won't hurt my feelings nearly as much as if my custom build I've got over $3k in breaks. NODs are where most people are going to sink real money when it comes to gear. There's cheap digital monocular that technically work, but when it comes to night time LARPing, don't skimp on the NVGs.

Pretty nice setups there, I am a civilian now with a civilian budget, so for me it's Condor for most of my gear, Botach Tactical plates and soft body armor up to level lV, Safariland Holsters for my kydex carry, various Condor for soft holster carry, and last but not least, Long Fri ballistic helmet.

Salomon's are all I have been wearing for the past 10+ years for my shooting, rappelling and archery. Absolutely love em!!! Super comfortable but don't last as long as I would like. Wear them off of the concrete and they will last awhile.
youd be better off witha pair of iron rangers by redwing there about 500 bucks but they are re sole able and will last as long as you take decent care of your grear.

I wasn’t special forces, just a medic. Carried less gear each deployment. We all will die sometime. I stopped worrying about it fairly quickly while others wore all their gear even in cold zones. Compromise. There is more to protection than plates. If you can’t move out of the way or get dehydrated and worn out from weight you’re compromised. Definitely depends on where you are. Retired so I’m home. Last protection job was an elementary school thanks to current paranoia. Dumped the uncomfortable heavy inside the shirt plate vest they provided and wore running shoes. Have you ever jumped fences while chasing a little kid?? Fast little buggers….
@Life Saving Defense. Hi, I'm a civilian or snivilian as some Military call us. Not a Medic but have a fairly high level of training in Construction FA. Am thinking of going to the Ukraine. So it may be Combat related or it may be clinical or dealing with bomb explosions. Would you have or know where I can get a list of appropriate gear. I've seen young people going over with nothing more than the clothes on their back and a Visa card. I used to do marine SAR so am aware of preparedness. Thanks
@@rogerdickinson920 I'd recommend not going. Videos of Americans/Brits not getting equipment and basically being used as cannon fodder have been coming out. If you still feel the need. Buy whatever equipment in the video can be put on a plane. As for additional trauma aid equipment, buy what you have the knowledge to use. No point in getting a surgical kit if you don't have any surgery experience.
@@alexanderjones2756 Thanks, I can't do the throat operation or an IV but can do a lot of other interventions. I saw a vid where people were screened and some with no skills were not being sent out in the field regardless of what gear they did or didn't have. I've not seen or heard of people being used as canon fodder.. Re my own med kit, it is significant and can deal with a lot of different injuries or issues but not a lot of each. I'm in Canada so weapons are an issue to get and don't really know what to get let alone arrange for shipping. I've sent of an RFI to the Ukrainian Consulate.
My Baofeng kept accidentally turning on and draining the battery too. I took a small rubber band and wrapped it around the on/off/volume knob to fill the gap between it and the radio body, and it adds some friction to help make it harder to turn and accidentally switch on
I too, feel "especially operatory" when I put on my kit to eat breakfast. One must always be ready for ninjy attacks. One could liken the Combat shirt to the modern day reflective belt. It is capable of deflecting 40mm 😏
I switched to the DULUTH Fire Hose Flex Pants. Under $100 and you can beat the crap out of them. Lot's of pockets on them. You can put knee pads in them. They stretch and move with you and are very durable!
John, just learned of this channel as I was researching tactical training and purchasing my 1st AR15. I planned to use it at the ranch and range but not home defense. I don’t see a video discussing barrels lengths and why to buy a particular length. I like the Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 Pro but has a 18” barrel. Would love some insight here and maybe a future video about barrel length recommendations based on application. Thanks.
Welcome!! Depends on what you’re doing with it. If home defense stuff and closer ranges are important to you, 12-16”. If you’re wanting long range 400-600m, longer barrel is better

John a good replacement for cheap ptts wired for baofeng is the Kenwood 2 pin manufactured and sold by Disco 32. It retails for about $100 and is water resistant, I’ve use one for over 4 years now and have had no problems. It is an amplified ptt so no problems running comtac 2s 3s and opscore amps. Definitely a great purchase.
That radio John --- rethink that piece. There are civilian radios that will stand up to weather, dust, being dropped, etc. That Baofeng is a weak link you can't truly trust on even the sunniest day. Somewhere around $150-$250 will get you into coms gear you can at least depend on for short range small team work. Good examples are the Yaesu FT-270 and VX-6R. There are many others.
I love this video I keep trying to find basic informational videos about kids but usually they are either boring Expensive and difficult to set up this video. Makes it very clear where to get it how to get it and what it does.
Back in 1971. While on active duty I was attending a class on counter insurgency. Our instructor was pretty clear. Do not look like a solider, if you are a guerrilla. You should look at like a hunter, fishermen or farmer , wear earth tone colors and sturdy shoes, wear nothing military, carry you gear in cloth bags , and carry a appropriate knife no bigger than six inches, but Y'all go out and buy all this high end battle rattle. It is the training and mind set that makes a warrior.

Hierarchy of needs 1. Respiration 2. Thermoregulation 3. *Hydration* 4. Nutrition 5. Connection I would argue you should be carrying more salt and less sugar though, especially if you're operating in high temps.

Paid $190 for a iwba holster from them and waited 2 months... doesn't even cover the trigger gaurd... tried to contact them they gave me attitude and wanted me to pay to ship it back to them. Terrible company from my perspective. Funny how so many people seem to have an opposite experience.
John great run down on some great gear. It is really cool how much this gear has changed and improved. I went through SWAT School at Ft. McClellan in 1989 and our equipment was good back then but not the same as now as all technology changes, training was tough but excellent. 64 and retired 12 years now, my how things have changed. Regarding your PTT issue, consider this: Code Red Headsets makes something called a signal 21 speaker mic. I'm not suggesting you use that in a standalone way, please hear me out. That speakermic can come with the Kenwood 2 pin connector that the BaoFeng uses AND it has a small 3.5mm jack on the speaker mic. You can run that to your helmet and use the speaker mic as your PTT. You might be asking "how does this solve my problem?" Apt question! The Signal 21 speaker mic can be submerged in water for something like an hour straight and still be used. Great for outdoor stuff!

@@alexmaurice4274 if you want a better option than crye but a bit pricey, first spear combat shirts are great, they do use wool but the did some dark magic to it were it’s comfortable, breathable and wicks sweat their combat shirts are also flame retardant which is great, they don’t have those cool colors like crye does, first spear just got the basics, Ranger green, black, Coyote, and I believe commando the color of that is hard to describe it’s like a mix of green and brown but has more of a brownish tone to it

Supply was dropping and local law enforcement was trying to force us to finger print and take a picture of anyone who was buying, selling, trading, or even just shooting in the range. Therefore me and my business partner sold it.

The D-Ring can also prevent one from falling out of their office chair, if anchored to the desk properly.
The ability to quickly remove the outter belt from the inner is essential if one needs to engage in a Tactical Breakdance Fight. Its best that one have a Herbie Hancock playlist at the ready if such a case arises.
It also allows you to quickly rappel out of work when you finally lose it with your asshole boss and need an out before security gets there.

Best budget “tactical” ish pants I can recommend for ANYONE is the LAPG Atlas pants. They stretch in the right places and have rip stop everywhere else. They are $39.99. I wear them everyday at work and they last
What kind of work do they hold up against, and would you say that the wearability is functional enough to run miles in? Like if one were to train in them? Is it tough as work jeans, or at least relatively durable?
Honestly, for anyone on a tight budget LAPG makes some decent stuff: their Atlas pants and shirts fit well and are fairly durable, and their plates & plate carriers are hard to beat for the money.
I'm not at all saying they're top of the line stuff, or compare to the stuff John has, but for folks who can't afford $400 worth of camo and $500-1000 worth of armor, they're a good option.
Can anyone recommend a good set up knee pads to put in the knee pockets of the Atlas pants?

Not having been a .mil door kicker I really appreciate this. My days as an LEO doorkicker were so long ago that we considered 60 lumen surefire flashlights as the ultimate illumination device and would have KILLED for NODS! At my age I doubt I could really profit from this kit, but it is CERTAINLY nice to educate myself. Thank you Sir!
They still are. They give you all the illumination you need and you dont blind yourself.
Surefire 6P aluminum body still by my bedside. Brighter Surefire and Streamlight on blasters.
Pass it on to your kids. I still have my Surefire G2 /C2 they do suck comparably.
Surefire and Maglight's are my go-to's personally. Expensive but worth every cent.

Also one thing to add to this load out, a paint can opener. Allows you to get jammed non ejected casings out and can retain it with string, paracord, onto your molle with the circle end of the pain opener.

Another consideration for a D-ring on a duty belt, even for civilians, is if you have a dog (hopefully a well trained one), you can use that D-ring for a belt mounted leash/tether to be hands off and still have your dog tethered to you if need be.

Your review on the Velocity Systems Scarab LT plate carrier was spot on and is the best PC I've worn. HRT looks solid too.
Good to hear! FYI - I like the HRT one more (obviously because we don't even carry the Velocity one) because I could never seem to get the shoulder straps right on the Scarab. One shoulder would always feel tighter than the other one no matter how much I played with them. Both carriers are truly great though so I don't think you need to trade out.

Hate to say it but there are some gun ranges I wouldn’t go to without the armor. Not from malice, just some folks are incredibly stupid out there.

But my father joined because of 9/11 and it resulted in him not being around a majority of my childhood. Anyhow I think because of the fact that 9/11 wasn’t like Pearl Harbor in the fact that Al queda didn’t have the capability to invade America and change the entire American way of life as Japan could have potentially. Many people forget just how close Japan was to San Francisco so I feel in many ways that the motivations of getting into the wars differed a lot. Obviously I’d rather be fighting a regime like China then some country in the Middle East but here’s the thing Im not joining to serve my country, or fight in any war, to be honest i jsut like the comradeship and the way of life and I want to follow in my grandpas footsteps in becoming a paratrooper. If your a tiny bit Tech Savy you can take apart the Cheaper PTT swith box and add a tiny bit of M3 4000 product, it's like RTV but it bonds to almost anything and holds a seal. Between that and some self made gaskets I managed to waterproof my Baofend UV-21R and PTT switch.

Hey John, a tip for the shoes I learned from a runner friend of mine, buy two pairs at a time and cycle them. I know it doesn't make sense but shoes that usually lasted me a 6 months were lasting well over a year when I alternated. It's helped alleviate the costs for a bit of a bite upfront
Imagine that. Wearing shoes half as much makes them last twice as long. :P
Cost is the same long term then. Although I can see it helping you having a set that fits well for longer peroid of time without supply shortages.

This is a really great video. You know what's the best that money can buy but you also realize most of us don't want to spend that much money. You married the two together with the best bang for your buck. I have been watching videos, reading articles, and studying stuff for a few weeks trying to wrap my head around the best bang for my buck in a battle belt, pouches, etc... And you just summed it up nicely here. Thank you!
Here's something I've really learned with kit. There is no reason to overdo it. Go a mile in the kit on a treadmill or run round for a minute in your house and you'll tell fairly quickly what needs to come off, move, or modify. As someone like myself with asthma, you have to try to keep things as light as possible but also carry enough.
I learned from one of the operators on Spiritus gear videos that storing the AMPS on top of your helmet will wear out the springs, it’s better to fold them inside the helmet. Hope this helps in making your and my $900 purchase last longer

For anyone curious, this is what most would call a “direct action” setup. Most civilian defenders are probably not best served with a setup like this. You may be, but consider taking a critical look at likely scenarios and see if a setup like this would be most advantageous. For most just getting into the game of preparedness, and seeing this setup and all the dollar signs attached, consider doing a general purpose, hard sawn, chest rig. E.g. LBT lock and load, mayflower, etc. 👍🏼
Mayflower chest rig swiftclipped into a trex arms AC1 with hoplite 26605 plates is what Im rocking right now, and it’s worth every penny for the complete setup.

99.995% of people don't need this setup and will NEVER use it.
Most people would be better off with a small fraction of this setup, then spend the rest of the cash on training and food.
Yup, this is definitely a Door Kicking/Direct Action set up (Thanks John, for making the bar so high ;p). Vast majority of us can get away with a plate carrier and helmet, or even just a plate carrier. Everything else is optional. I personally use a war belt because I use it for two gun. I have a set up I can throw on under a min.
For us old guys that like BDU’s, I have found Propper to have the best fit (for cheap BDU’s). Truspec BDU’s are extremely baggy on me. So true about the food and water. I look at videos today and always wonder why they always leave water out of their kit.
I am very skeptical of nearly all “personalities” and folks I just don’t know in person/have met.
After watching John and WPS for a few years now, I feel I can trust this knowledge and that it’s not simply another click bait type Internet personality.

Side note: the duration plates are made by ferro concepts, and that company just got hit with a bunch of letters from the Fed's. DHS/FBI/DOJ/ETC... they're saying the NIJ testing group pulled some random lots for inspection and failed horribly! And it's also implied that they cut a bunch of corners after the inspection units were stamped g2g...etc... this is NOT a shot at the armor company, but if I were looking for something to srop a bullet and save my life, I'm not buying anything from a company with all that shit happening.

I love this content. I wish I was seeing more warrior poet profiles of dudes from history like you used to.
When I see all this kit that’s available these days it truly staggers me. I joined up in 1990 aged 1 week after I was 17. I was given boots made by the lowest bidder, this is a true fact that they used compressed cardboard in the soles. I was given a pair of DPM trousers & jacket, NOTHING like the stuff u see these days, a green normal button up shirt & a woollen jumper n that’s it. ZERO Gortex available & we went out in -10 conditions wet for days. Radios were hated heavy bricks, the batteries made up half the size of the “portable” radio & we had to share at least 4 batteries between us due to the weight, just 1 battery was easily bigger than an ammo can. Our webbing was pre moulded super thick n stiff hessian type material that shrank in the rain so it severely shrank when wet “which was always” that you could not put it back on. Ear protection, ear what….. not heard of. Helmet was metal n 0 padding just a well worn in leather straps instead. None waterproof gloves which to this day I swear they made my hands colder, then ammo, water “LOTS”, full big size 24 ration pack at a minimum in fact the only decent stuff we had was our 7.62 FN FALs & the awesome belt fed “more weight” GPMG squad weapon. In fact it’s surprising that more of us didn’t die, oh wait……
You would have loved the early '70s - I had to carry a PRC-25 (affectionately known as the Prick25) once for a training mission, but ended up carrying TWO when a fellow Prick pooped out. If I remember correctly, that -25 represented its weight. This, in addition to the M14, full helmet, kit, everything . . . you felt more like you were training for a decathlon or something.

I remember that those PRCs seemed to have a battery life counted in minutes not hours lol, & the amount of battery bricks we had to each carry was ridiculous, especially bad in the cold when it was hard to even get 20mins before a battery change, it wouldn’t of been to bad if we could discard them once flat but we had to bring them all back, fully charge them & the regiment fully turned around ready to go out again before we could even go back to the barracks.
@@waynegroves6922 I remember doing a long nav/recce exercise with the old ANPRC-77 and the old ALICE webbing/packs here in Australia at Cultana for laughs. Can honestly say that those Vietnam-era guys were something else. Uncomfortable, heavy and not fun at all.
As pants go, the 5.11 Multicam TDU pants are fantastic and the inner elastic type belt is the best ever used. Solid pair of pants for 85$ normally.
I think the most important part of your gear choices when you're running on a thin budget is understanding the limitations of your gear, and training around that.
I'm running RMA 1155 plates in a Spartan Armor carrier, a surplus MICH and my go to rifle for general purpose is actually a 16" Bushmaster. I paid $375 out the door for the rifle, I've never had FTF issues with it, and if the rifle craps the bed on me, it won't hurt my feelings nearly as much as if my custom build I've got over $3k in breaks.
NODs are where most people are going to sink real money when it comes to gear. There's cheap digital monocular that technically work, but when it comes to night time LARPing, don't skimp on the NVGs.
That gear is good to go.

Pretty nice setups there, I am a civilian now with a civilian budget, so for me it's Condor for most of my gear, Botach Tactical plates and soft body armor up to level lV, Safariland Holsters for my kydex carry, various Condor for soft holster carry, and last but not least, Long Fri ballistic helmet.

Salomon's are all I have been wearing for the past 10+ years for my shooting, rappelling and archery. Absolutely love em!!! Super comfortable but don't last as long as I would like. Wear them off of the concrete and they will last awhile.
youd be better off witha pair of iron rangers by redwing there about 500 bucks but they are re sole able and will last as long as you take decent care of your grear.

We all will die sometime. I stopped worrying about it fairly quickly while others wore all their gear even in cold zones.

There is more to protection than plates.
If you can’t move out of the way or get dehydrated and worn out from weight you’re compromised.

So it may be Combat related or it may be clinical or dealing with bomb explosions.

@@rogerdickinson920 I'd recommend not going. Videos of Americans/Brits not getting equipment and basically being used as cannon fodder have been coming out. If you still feel the need. Buy whatever equipment in the video can be put on a plane. As for additional trauma aid equipment, buy what you have the knowledge to use. No point in getting a surgical kit if you don't have any surgery experience.

I saw a vid where people were screened and some with no skills were not being sent out in the field regardless of what gear they did or didn't have.
I've not seen or heard of people being used as canon fodder..
Re my own med kit, it is significant and can deal with a lot of different injuries or issues but not a lot of each.
I'm in Canada so weapons are an issue to get and don't really know what to get let alone arrange for shipping.

My Baofeng kept accidentally turning on and draining the battery too.
I took a small rubber band and wrapped it around the on/off/volume knob to fill the gap between it and the radio body, and it adds some friction to help make it harder to turn and accidentally switch on

I switched to the DULUTH Fire Hose Flex Pants. Under $100 and you can beat the crap out of them. Lot's of pockets on them. You can put knee pads in them. They stretch and move with you and are very durable!
John, just learned of this channel as I was researching tactical training and purchasing my 1st AR15. I planned to use it at the ranch and range but not home defense. I don’t see a video discussing barrels lengths and why to buy a particular length.
I like the Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 Pro but has a 18” barrel. Would love some insight here and maybe a future video about barrel length recommendations based on application. Thanks.
Welcome!! Depends on what you’re doing with it. If home defense stuff and closer ranges are important to you, 12-16”. If you’re wanting long range 400-600m, longer barrel is better
Go for an 18 inch or 16inch BCM

John a good replacement for cheap ptts wired for baofeng is the Kenwood 2 pin manufactured and sold by Disco 32. It retails for about $100 and is water resistant, I’ve use one for over 4 years now and have had no problems. It is an amplified ptt so no problems running comtac 2s 3s and opscore amps. Definitely a great purchase.

That radio John --- rethink that piece. There are civilian radios that will stand up to weather, dust, being dropped, etc. That Baofeng is a weak link you can't truly trust on even the sunniest day. Somewhere around $150-$250 will get you into coms gear you can at least depend on for short range small team work. Good examples are the Yaesu FT-270 and VX-6R. There are many others.
I like how that helmet setup is probably 2x the cost of EVERYTHING else in the video combined.

I love this video I keep trying to find basic informational videos about kids but usually they are either boring Expensive and difficult to set up this video. Makes it very clear where to get it how to get it and what it does.
Back in 1971. While on active duty I was attending a class on counter insurgency. Our instructor was pretty clear. Do not look like a solider, if you are a guerrilla. You should look at like a hunter, fishermen or farmer , wear earth tone colors and sturdy shoes, wear nothing military, carry you gear in cloth bags , and carry a appropriate knife no bigger than six inches, but Y'all go out and buy all this high end battle rattle. It is the training and mind set that makes a warrior.
Watching this in 2x speed makes John look like that one kid showing off his Christmas toys to his Uncle.

Paid $190 for a iwba holster from them and waited 2 months... doesn't even cover the trigger gaurd... tried to contact them they gave me attitude and wanted me to pay to ship it back to them. Terrible company from my perspective. Funny how so many people seem to have an opposite experience.

John great run down on some great gear. It is really cool how much this gear has changed and improved. I went through SWAT School at Ft. McClellan in 1989 and our equipment was good back then but not the same as now as all technology changes, training was tough but excellent. 64 and retired 12 years now, my how things have changed. Great video John.
Regarding your PTT issue, consider this:
Code Red Headsets makes something called a signal 21 speaker mic. I'm not suggesting you use that in a standalone way, please hear me out. That speakermic can come with the Kenwood 2 pin connector that the BaoFeng uses AND it has a small 3.5mm jack on the speaker mic.
You can run that to your helmet and use the speaker mic as your PTT.
You might be asking "how does this solve my problem?"
Apt question! The Signal 21 speaker mic can be submerged in water for something like an hour straight and still be used. Great for outdoor stuff!
