@@astalecookie6778 It doesn't change the principle. Being into "casual photography", I've just acquired a Canon EOS T8i, marketed as "entry level". Which it is when we base our appreciation on pricing along some features (but that I don't need, e.g. 4K video - although dual-pîxel AF works very well in 1080p 60ips mode). You can play around the triangle ; you can change lenses (and use high quality ones if wanted) ; you have 24-25 Mpx, which is largely sufficient unless you want to create gigantic wall posters ; it allows you to deliver professional grade photographs ; it provides one of the best (if not the best) AF system. *But most importantly* : the *_results_* that can be viewed on a TV screen or whatnot, _can be_ of a professional level, as it would solely depend on who's taking the shots (on the photographer's talent). Of course, if I was a pro photographer making a living out of it, I would acquire a higher end camera, especially for vlogging in 4k, take more stills per second, etc. Here, the T8i is cheaper than the M50 Mark2 because it's a reflex camera, not a mirrorless. However, it delivers the same image quality - and more with sharper images. Something else to consider : *Canon's "M" line (along the M50 etc.) has been abandoned, to make room for the R7 and R10.* Canon will not develop new lenses for the "M" line. I don't know about EF and EF-S, but the cameras that can accommodate them (like the T8i) already have a wide array of lenses for the choosing, thus it wouldn't be as impactful. *NOTE:* after a second reading I've noticed that we're in a context of videography and moving pictures, not still images. Where the differences from an entry level such as those 2 cameras in the clip, and a pro/high-end level, are very noticeable in the results (and the gear). Thus what I wrote above is irrelevant, my apologies.

I have a Sony ZVE-10 and I can Record 4k for as long as I want without overheating. You just need to change one option on the settings from "normal" to "high" (something related to the temperature, it's on all Sony cameras). It's an amazing little camera!
Thanks, cannot wait to get mine on Saturday. I just ordered it through Amazon. I just returned a GoPro Hero 10 hoping that I could use that for my TH-cam channel, but it didn't work out for me, the darn thing overheated and shut down right in the middle of a cooking video. Really upsetting, I lost all the video, the most important part of the video was gone, so then was the GoPro Hero 10, bye bye..
@@abidshahriar9138 it's mainly for video, but it's perfectly capable of taking good photos. The main downsize is that it doesn't have an EVF (electronic viewfinder). So if you are looking for a stills camera I would not recomend this one. This one is great for content creators.
The reality is, no one is going to film with 2 cameras side by side to compare small differences. Both cameras can shoot great video, if you know how. So the answer is - either. And put the required effort in the rest of it, like light, sound and edit.
I am a UX designer with a passive interest in film. I just happened across an add on youtube and got intrigued. There are so many similarities between film-making and UX/digital product design - from story telling, planning, skills, even the business side (do the work you want to attract for example). Within a couple of videos I'm hooked on this channel. I'm definitely going to plan out a path that incorporates this course into what I do - from videoing user interviews, user testing etc - I'm now even thinking possibly about a youtube channel. Absolutely amazing and inspiring. These guys are great to watch, they look and sound like they know what they're on about, plus they're fun but not over the top. Nailed it. I feel like I've learned so much already. So many parallels and it looks such great fun. And I'm the kind of bloke that doesn't even like taking photos with my phone! Now, I want to be the next Spielbery or Nolan! Definitely be getting the course.
I have the M50-ii and i have no regrets. Video quality is great, and i love the viewfinder for photos. The speed booster makes it full frame, and it can use all the ef lenses. My 50mm f1.4 is now f1.0 on my M50 at 56mm. I did a couples photo shoot with it and they were blown away for such a tiny camera. It's cool to be able to use for both. And the touch screen is irreplaceable
The only issue right now with the ZV-E10 is that as of now Sony suspended production of the product due to chip shortages. Hopefully they will resume very soon because with all the things packed into that camera it’s an incredible value. Guess Sony wanted to prioritize the A7IV and the PS5 with their limited resource of chips.
I come from the Canon ecosystem so i had a few cool APSC lenses, which I could use with an adapter on the M50 MII. So ended up getting that. No regrets. Well, for 4k i can always use my Gopros or the DJI pocket 2.
I may be a bit biased but I'll go for m50. Cuz if you use an adaptor, it'll open the world of ef lenses, download a log profile. It'll complete the camera. Yes no dual pixel auto focus in 4k is really annoying. But this test should have included photography. Cuz a beginner look for a all round camera. Not everyone is a filmmaker, but it depends on skill.

I have Canon M50 and love it's ease of use and colours. I hope Canon will soon really upgrade it to M60 with 4k uncropped, unlimited recording and reliable AF in 4k. I don't use viewfinder at all so Canon, skip it and make it more suitable for content creators.

Yea it can hold up for professional stuff. I used the M50 for weddings as a B-Cam and for the M6 MK.II it improves on everything. It’ll suffice for Music Videos. It doesn’t record audio when it shoots in 120fps but I’m not sure if it’s a necessity. But the slow motion look great.
That advice at the end was just simply amazing. In the end just start with the gear you have and just shoot to the best of the your gears performance and your skills. Gosh this Parker Walbeck channel....I remember when i started out two years ago and was trying to figure out which gear to get for my TH-cam channel. Almost every search I did had a Parker Walbeck video in the results. So I watched one video, then two, then ten etc...eventually i just decided to get an iPhone X, lav mic, tripod and a small cheap light off AliExpress.. Just got a used canon m50 mark ii for under $400. Another thing to keep in mind is if your laptop can’t handle editing 4K does the 4K even matter? I only shoot in 1080 because I don’t have that good of a video card. Also you can get an adapter for the m50 and use ef or efs lenses
Good video. I've never had a heating issue with my zve10 though. but I think the maximum I've had to shoot in the past is 40mins there about. I normally shoot 4k 30fps with the temperature setting set to 'High'

For a beginner like me the m50.2 is alright. I've used it on a few family events for pics. It's more than enough, actually. I even bought Sigma 16 and 30mm lenses and they're awesome. Well, if you are going to really plan to use it in the near future, like in a year, for pro use, then, buy a pro camera and not a "beginner" one.
I think when people have to choose between a pro and a beginner option its mostly because of financial issues. Of course everyone would rather have a Red or an Arri.
Exactly. The way I see it. TH-cam video production will always live in the beginner category. Until smart phones are able to broadcast in 4k, the compression reduces the advantages of shooting in 4k. Not to mention the need to upgrade your hardware in order to edit that 4k footage. The M50 with the adapter, is more than enough for the average TH-camr. The adapter opens up the full range of Canon lenses. The largest on the market. Aspiring filmmakers should probably go with the Sony. Aspiring TH-camrs, the Canon.
@@PWingert1966 Makes sense to me. I don't understand the need to shoot beyond 1080p when you're talking about youtube and standard cinema. The 4, 8, 20, 50K stuff seems more applicable to high end 3D animations, video games, metaverse type content. Creating entirely new digital worlds. Even Hollywood movies when shot on 4K cameras is edited in HD and scaled up to 4K. It's not true 4K. So why would a youtuber even need to deal with 4K? People seem to use it just because it's available. Not because there's any real improvements on 1080p.
@@sentry8992 I have a friend who does advertising photography for in mall billboards. He needs the 50Mpx since what he shoots gets transformed into 8 story high by sixty feet wide in mall advertisements! But given the eye can't really see beyond about 2.5K 4K is just marketing for most of the applications. It's great in the security camera industry where they need the resolution for getting suspect details and images but that's about it!
I say the best ADVANCED Beginner camera is actually Canon EOS M (the first one) with Magic Lantern. I say advanced cause you get tons of options in the menu with Magic Lantern. $150-200 and a fast SD Card with some wide angle lenses that could handle crops will get you amazing quality in raw format. Learn how to use that and get good and you will be golden when you level up to something more expensive.
@@maenkarchipay1722 it never fails, and if it did you just restart the camera. If you are that worried about your SD card corrupting you could have a 2nd one for backup. It works very well. Don't assume there are issues without trying it. I mean if someone has an EOS M and they aren't using magic lantern, they are dumb or have no idea what they are doing. The whole point to buying this camera is to use Magic Lantern.
This is why I'll stick with my Canon M6 Mark ii. No crop in 4k and DPAF works in 4k. Plus there's a 14fps burst shooting. 33 megapixels. and up to 120fps slow mo. I'm very happy with it
I always wonder why nobody mentions the m6 mk2 clearly negates almost every disability the m50 has and you can purchase it from canon refurbished for a decent price 🤷🏽♂️
I was waiting for this one... And i was going to buy m50ii because it has a viewfinder.. And I want to shoot videos for TH-cam like the talking heads so it won't be any problem for that 4k issue.... That’s right! SONY 💯💯 I have the ZV1. Got it as soon as it came out 2 yrs ago! And the best move I made for my TH-cam channel. Videos are flawless! I’m sure the Sony z10 is only better than the ZV1, which is phenomenal as it is! 💪🏼🙃
I vlogged a trip to Iceland in winter. That proper 4k 👌👌 imagine shooting an amazing location in 1080p! I have the Sony for my channel. I binned off the stock lens its very poor. The Tamron 17 to 70mm 2.8f is a must.. Also the microphone dead cat really helps with strong wind. It removes it, this was not covered.
I’m still rocking the Canon 70D. I have a 20mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and a 400mm zoom. O and the stock lens that came with the camera. Being APSC, which body should I upgrade to, the 90D? Also, in the end, my 70D only reaches 1080p. The Canon M50 has 4K but it sounds like it’s best setting for video is only 1080p, which means I can get the same results from my 70D. So as far as video goes, it sounds more like going with a dedicated video camera might make more sense. My pick would be the Sony AX53 video camera with the floating lens and many other positives. Doesn’t it make more sense to separate still photography with your video work? Note: I am just a 58 year old guy who like photography and videography as a hobby. I like perfection but it’s not always necessary. Matter of fact, what makes it art is the deviance from staunch perfection. Example: a pinhole camera.
You have a section on best 4K image, but you don’t cover 1080p? I was interested in how 1080p60 compared between the Sony and Canon? Some reviews mention that the Sony 1080p is very soft compared to the Canon, but I haven’t found any direct comparisons. It also doesn’t make sense to me why the 1080p would be less quality on the Sony with its sensor?
I don’t have the m50 but the zv e10 1080p is sharper and looks of a higher quality than my 80d . It’s probably because I have a sigma lens on my zv e10 the kit lens on the Sony looks horrible in 1080p but good in 4k . When I use the sigma 16mm 1.4 lens on the zv e10 it looks almost like 4k , most of the people that say Sony has bad 1080p preform test using kit lens .
I just got a new ZV-E10 for £649 with a discount code. Saved £100, I'm feeling pretty good about it. I'm a total beginner to filmmaking and wanted something cheap but decent enough to learn the basics on.
@@thefragrancefam i think the biggest thing i would look into is longevity! look into the lenses offered by each camera and see if it fits what you want to do with it!
its impressive... looks like biggest difference is that Sony ZV-E10 is ALL-i and Canon M50m2 is APB (look at the motion) i mean, i understand that its fullHD, but canons fullHD is similar (mostly) to 4k of sony when upscaled, with little difference in overall sharpness. god damn... its impressive so.
What about using the Canon with the EF adapter or some of the speed boosters? There are chillions and gazillions of very cheap and very good EF lenses in the market that works perfectly with any Canon camera and adapter. You can keep the lenses if you want to grow to the RF cameras in the future
solid video. Your categories were key and your detailed comparison explanations were comprehensive. ONE finding was the Lens comparison.....you mentioned the limitations of the Canon, but failed to mention adapters it's compatible with, to use additional lenses.
They both preform great but at the end of the day if you really know your color science it’s a lot easier to tell I’ve been a canon shooter for 7 years and I’ve had my gate share of seeing the color science between both the cameras sony for the most part has always been a slightly more flat (barley noticeable) and has a little bit of a green tint that if you look close enough you can notice
Also they could have mentioned for a bit more money you could get the canon eos rp at $899 msrp and either get an adapter with a cheap lens or an rf 50 mm bit more pricey than these two cameras but you have a full frame camera that is very capable of getting great quality compared to these cameras without spending eos r5 r6 or even eos r money
As a TH-camr who has a canon mark 50 I love it. I have had no problems with it. It’s not a bad camera at all. But before buying the m50 I wish this Sony camera was out by then so I could of bought it! I subscribed!
@@ankitgawai2467 I would say the zv1 is more compact and portable option. Let's say that you're inside a store and you just want to shoot a couple of minutes really quick then yes, having the zv1 sounds like the best bet.

Can you please make a video about slow motion? It gets confusing sometimes. If you shoot in 1080 60/120 frames, what will be the result? If you shoot in 4k 24/30, will the result be 1080 120 frames or 60 or 30? Please help.
He didn't mention that with a speed booster (Try Viltrox) you can pretty much eliminate the 4K crop and pick up a 1/3 or so (they tout a full) stop of light. I have one. It works. Still testing to see what it does to the resolution.

@@nicelystuff5362 There's something called a speedbooster, essentially an adaptor using which you can use full frame Canon EF lens at the native focal length of the lens (usually for Canon APSC cameras there's a crop factor of 1.6X; it eliminates the crop). It also opens up the aperture by some factor. Which means f/1.8 can go down to f/1.4, allowing more light and providing shallower depth of field as well. So what he's saying is, using the viltrox speedbooster the extra crop at 4K will not be present. Hope you got it.
I have the m50 and because of the 4K crop + af and the lenses and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you get a good deal - they go for under 400 with kit lens sometimes, that I can recommend for a starter!
Thanks for this comparative review ! From the first clip (at 1:20), and it's very visible, the Sony looks sharper and focuses better/faster on the subject. And seems to have a better contrast, but we'd need to know the true grey tint of the car. At 4:10, IMHO Sony's 4K also looks better/sharper... Unfortunately, the ZV-E10 is out of stock since a while (on back order: Sony will produce more since we can preorder on most eCom site like B&H).
It`s the Sony, cuz it's better at video and it has lens compatibility, so down the line when you wanna go pro with your photography, you won't have to adapt or change all your license everything will just fit.
I started my digital camera journey with Canon EF lenses. I wanted a smaller camera -due to disability - so I moved to the M50 knowing I could adapt my lenses using either a speedbooster or a standard adaptor. I am perfectly happy with the 1080p on the Canon but the 4K is unusable for reasons stated in your video. So I bought ZV-E10 as an option to move into 4K eventually, tho' I don't have a fast enough computer that can cope with 4K video processing at present. Also 7artisans make an EF-Sony E adaptor which means I can use my EF lenses on the ZV-E10. I'll see how good that is when it arrives in the post. Owning a Canon system, an Olympus MFT system and vintage zuiko system, starting a new Sony system ain't gonna go down well with the missus. Nice video which makes me think the ZV-E10 is a good choice going forward.

I have the m50 mark 2 I got it because it was affordable. I want to do both photography and videography but I’m more into videography.I want to make some gimbal videos with it until I have enough cash to upgrade.
Under accessories, why not mention the Canon adapter that's available for the M50? It opens up the entire range of Canon lenses. Canon has the largest selection of lenses in the industry.
Thanks for the in-depth review Parker. Very interesting. The big fly in the ointment is that you simply can’t buy the Sony ZV-E10 currently. The last shipments went out at the very beginning of Dec 2021. It’s currently 31st March 2022, and this is out of stock everywhere, as Sony has literally stopped making them, supposedly because of the chip shortage. I have been heavily researching a beginner cameras, because I want to do a combination of lots of photos for the basis of an NFT collection I want to put together, and also starting a TH-cam channel. So I care about the quality of the photos just as much as the video. Which one took better photos in your opinion? I have to say I prefered the video of the Canon you shot at the beginning. It felt sharper, particularly on the guy at the back. I also liked that it had a proper viewfinder, which is great for photos. Clearly, if I bought the Canon I would probably have to shoot in 1080P, as your cropping example was terrific at explaining why the cropping on 4k was a big deal. Do you think that only shooting in 1080 vs 4k is a big problem in 2022? If you were buying a camera right now, and literally couldn’t buy the Sony, and were say choosing between the Canon and the alternatives, or the next camera model up (that could be more expensive, but be better longer term). What would you buy? (I really do want a viewfinder anyway, as photos are just as important as video)

For some reason, everyone forgets about canon M6 mark II that has dual pixel, eye detection autofocus and not cropped 4k, no overheating, and about 32Mpx 😏
The flip up screen is better for self monitoring too if you find yourself watching the screen the eyeline looks more natural than the flip out on the m50

I’m confused by the stabilization stats in the video. I have the ZV-E10 from what I’ve seen you can turn stabilization to off, Standard (uses the OSS in the lens) and Active which is digitally done and causes a 1.4 crop. I usually just leave it off so I can stabilize using the gyro data in post.
Great Comparison with Sony and Canon, however I think the Canon is the true winner because of longer battery life, easy to operate touch screen, you can still adapt the lens mount to use full frame lenses, Sony has better 4k but overheats due to oversampling. Canon has a Nice color science and you can actually still buy this camera today. Sony decided to kill off the ZV-E10 to push buyers towards its more expensive models especially with the chip shortage.
The Sony does not overheat, that's not true. They forgot to change one option to prevent this from happening. And you can also use full frame lenses on the Sony APS-C. I would never choose the M50 II Over the ZVE-10... It's just a no brainer.
There is NO overheating on the ZV-E10 if this clueless reviewer had turned on the High Temp option. ZV-E10 is still available, at least in my place. Those things your mentioned doesn't really make M50 a good buy. As always, you get what you pay for. The ZV-E10 is more expensive than m50 and for good reasons.
@@mamamia601 Most cameras that oversample from 6k to 4k overheats. That is a fact regardless. The High Temp option you mentioned here will only delay the time overheating kicks in, thus preventing the camera from shutting down.. Otherwise you have to question the whole point of putting on this band aid if it is indeed a true 4k camera. The Sony A7siii uses the full sensor width and very unlikely overheat. This is science not debating. At the time I made the comment 10 mths ago, things have changed now and supply chain has improved so you are right the ZV-E10 is available.

Does it have an HDMI out port, so I can monitor my video during recording (my current Panasonic turns HDMI out off when the record button is pressed). 2. I don't know about EF and EF-S, but the cameras that can accommodate them (like the T8i) already have a wide array of lenses for the choosing, thus it wouldn't be as impactful.
*NOTE:* after a second reading I've noticed that we're in a context of videography and moving pictures, not still images. Where the differences from an entry level such as those 2 cameras in the clip, and a pro/high-end level, are very noticeable in the results (and the gear). Thus what I wrote above is irrelevant, my apologies.

I have a Sony ZVE-10 and I can Record 4k for as long as I want without overheating. You just need to change one option on the settings from "normal" to "high" (something related to the temperature, it's on all Sony cameras). It's an amazing little camera!
Thanks, cannot wait to get mine on Saturday. I just ordered it through Amazon. I just returned a GoPro Hero 10 hoping that I could use that for my TH-cam channel, but it didn't work out for me, the darn thing overheated and shut down right in the middle of a cooking video. Really upsetting, I lost all the video, the most important part of the video was gone, so then was the GoPro Hero 10, bye bye..

@@abidshahriar9138 it's mainly for video, but it's perfectly capable of taking good photos. The main downsize is that it doesn't have an EVF (electronic viewfinder). So if you are looking for a stills camera I would not recomend this one. This one is great for content creators.

I am a UX designer with a passive interest in film. I just happened across an add on youtube and got intrigued. There are so many similarities between film-making and UX/digital product design - from story telling, planning, skills, even the business side (do the work you want to attract for example). Within a couple of videos I'm hooked on this channel. I'm definitely going to plan out a path that incorporates this course into what I do - from videoing user interviews, user testing etc - I'm now even thinking possibly about a youtube channel. Absolutely amazing and inspiring. These guys are great to watch, they look and sound like they know what they're on about, plus they're fun but not over the top. Nailed it. I feel like I've learned so much already. So many parallels and it looks such great fun. And I'm the kind of bloke that doesn't even like taking photos with my phone! Now, I want to be the next Spielbery or Nolan! Definitely be getting the course.
I have the M50-ii and i have no regrets. Video quality is great, and i love the viewfinder for photos. The speed booster makes it full frame, and it can use all the ef lenses. My 50mm f1.4 is now f1.0 on my M50 at 56mm. I did a couples photo shoot with it and they were blown away for such a tiny camera. It's cool to be able to use for both. And the touch screen is irreplaceable

The only issue right now with the ZV-E10 is that as of now Sony suspended production of the product due to chip shortages. Hopefully they will resume very soon because with all the things packed into that camera it’s an incredible value.

I come from the Canon ecosystem so i had a few cool APSC lenses, which I could use with an adapter on the M50 MII. So ended up getting that. No regrets. Well, for 4k i can always use my Gopros or the DJI pocket 2.
I may be a bit biased but I'll go for m50. Cuz if you use an adaptor, it'll open the world of ef lenses, download a log profile. It'll complete the camera. Yes no dual pixel auto focus in 4k is really annoying. But this test should have included photography. Cuz a beginner look for a all round camera. Not everyone is a filmmaker, but it depends on skill.

I have Canon M50 and love it's ease of use and colours. I hope Canon will soon really upgrade it to M60 with 4k uncropped, unlimited recording and reliable AF in 4k. I don't use viewfinder at all so Canon, skip it and make it more suitable for content creators.

Yea it can hold up for professional stuff. I used the M50 for weddings as a B-Cam and for the M6 MK.II it improves on everything. It’ll suffice for Music Videos.
It doesn’t record audio when it shoots in 120fps but I’m not sure if it’s a necessity. But the slow motion look great.

Gosh this Parker Walbeck channel....I remember when i started out two years ago and was trying to figure out which gear to get for my TH-cam channel.
Almost every search I did had a Parker Walbeck video in the results. So I watched one video, then two, then ten etc...eventually i just decided to get an iPhone X, lav mic, tripod and a small cheap light off AliExpress..

Just got a used canon m50 mark ii for under $400. Another thing to keep in mind is if your laptop can’t handle editing 4K does the 4K even matter? I only shoot in 1080 because I don’t have that good of a video card. Also you can get an adapter for the m50 and use ef or efs lenses

Good video. I've never had a heating issue with my zve10 though. but I think the maximum I've had to shoot in the past is 40mins there about. I normally shoot 4k 30fps with the temperature setting set to 'High'

We shot like 18 videos a day and compared to our Canon M50 II, the Sony was heating up after every 50 or so minutes.
For a beginner like me the m50.2 is alright. I've used it on a few family events for pics. It's more than enough, actually. I even bought Sigma 16 and 30mm lenses and they're awesome. Well, if you are going to really plan to use it in the near future, like in a year, for pro use, then, buy a pro camera and not a "beginner" one.
I think when people have to choose between a pro and a beginner option its mostly because of financial issues. Of course everyone would rather have a Red or an Arri.
Exactly. The way I see it. TH-cam video production will always live in the beginner category. Until smart phones are able to broadcast in 4k, the compression reduces the advantages of shooting in 4k. Not to mention the need to upgrade your hardware in order to edit that 4k footage. The M50 with the adapter, is more than enough for the average TH-camr. The adapter opens up the full range of Canon lenses. The largest on the market. Aspiring filmmakers should probably go with the Sony. Aspiring TH-camrs, the Canon.

@@PWingert1966 Makes sense to me. I don't understand the need to shoot beyond 1080p when you're talking about youtube and standard cinema. The 4, 8, 20, 50K stuff seems more applicable to high end 3D animations, video games, metaverse type content. Creating entirely new digital worlds. Even Hollywood movies when shot on 4K cameras is edited in HD and scaled up to 4K. It's not true 4K. So why would a youtuber even need to deal with 4K? People seem to use it just because it's available. Not because there's any real improvements on 1080p.
@@sentry8992 I have a friend who does advertising photography for in mall billboards. He needs the 50Mpx since what he shoots gets transformed into 8 story high by sixty feet wide in mall advertisements! But given the eye can't really see beyond about 2.5K 4K is just marketing for most of the applications. It's great in the security camera industry where they need the resolution for getting suspect details and images but that's about it!
I say the best ADVANCED Beginner camera is actually Canon EOS M (the first one) with Magic Lantern. I say advanced cause you get tons of options in the menu with Magic Lantern. $150-200 and a fast SD Card with some wide angle lenses that could handle crops will get you amazing quality in raw format. Learn how to use that and get good and you will be golden when you level up to something more expensive.
What if booting magic lantern on top of the originap canon os fails?Its risky according to some users opinion
@@maenkarchipay1722 it never fails, and if it did you just restart the camera. If you are that worried about your SD card corrupting you could have a 2nd one for backup. It works very well. Don't assume there are issues without trying it. I mean if someone has an EOS M and they aren't using magic lantern, they are dumb or have no idea what they are doing. The whole point to buying this camera is to use Magic Lantern.

This is why I'll stick with my Canon M6 Mark ii. No crop in 4k and DPAF works in 4k. Plus there's a 14fps burst shooting. 33 megapixels. and up to 120fps slow mo. I'm very happy with it
I always wonder why nobody mentions the m6 mk2 clearly negates almost every disability the m50 has and you can purchase it from canon refurbished for a decent price 🤷🏽♂️

I vlogged a trip to Iceland in winter. That proper 4k 👌👌 imagine shooting an amazing location in 1080p! I have the Sony for my channel. I binned off the stock lens its very poor. The Tamron 17 to 70mm 2.8f is a must.. Also the microphone dead cat really helps with strong wind. It removes it, this was not covered.
I’m still rocking the Canon 70D. I have a 20mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and a 400mm zoom. O and the stock lens that came with the camera. Being APSC, which body should I upgrade to, the 90D? Also, in the end, my 70D only reaches 1080p. The Canon M50 has 4K but it sounds like it’s best setting for video is only 1080p, which means I can get the same results from my 70D. So as far as video goes, it sounds more like going with a dedicated video camera might make more sense. My pick would be the Sony AX53 video camera with the floating lens and many other positives. Doesn’t it make more sense to separate still photography with your video work?
Note: I am just a 58 year old guy who like photography and videography as a hobby. I like perfection but it’s not always necessary. Matter of fact, what makes it art is the deviance from staunch perfection. Example: a pinhole camera.

You have a section on best 4K image, but you don’t cover 1080p? I was interested in how 1080p60 compared between the Sony and Canon? Some reviews mention that the Sony 1080p is very soft compared to the Canon, but I haven’t found any direct comparisons. It also doesn’t make sense to me why the 1080p would be less quality on the Sony with its sensor?
I don’t have the m50 but the zv e10 1080p is sharper and looks of a higher quality than my 80d . It’s probably because I have a sigma lens on my zv e10 the kit lens on the Sony looks horrible in 1080p but good in 4k . When I use the sigma 16mm 1.4 lens on the zv e10 it looks almost like 4k , most of the people that say Sony has bad 1080p preform test using kit lens .

its impressive... looks like biggest difference is that Sony ZV-E10 is ALL-i and Canon M50m2 is APB (look at the motion) i mean, i understand that its fullHD, but canons fullHD is similar (mostly) to 4k of sony when upscaled, with little difference in overall sharpness.

What about using the Canon with the EF adapter or some of the speed boosters? There are chillions and gazillions of very cheap and very good EF lenses in the market that works perfectly with any Canon camera and adapter. You can keep the lenses if you want to grow to the RF cameras in the future

They both preform great but at the end of the day if you really know your color science it’s a lot easier to tell I’ve been a canon shooter for 7 years and I’ve had my gate share of seeing the color science between both the cameras sony for the most part has always been a slightly more flat (barley noticeable) and has a little bit of a green tint that if you look close enough you can notice
Also they could have mentioned for a bit more money you could get the canon eos rp at $899 msrp and either get an adapter with a cheap lens or an rf 50 mm bit more pricey than these two cameras but you have a full frame camera that is very capable of getting great quality compared to these cameras without spending eos r5 r6 or even eos r money

As a TH-camr who has a canon mark 50 I love it. I have had no problems with it. It’s not a bad camera at all. But before buying the m50 I wish this Sony camera was out by then so I could of bought it!

He didn't mention that with a speed booster (Try Viltrox) you can pretty much eliminate the 4K crop and pick up a 1/3 or so (they tout a full) stop of light. I have one. It works. Still testing to see what it does to the resolution.

@@nicelystuff5362 There's something called a speedbooster, essentially an adaptor using which you can use full frame Canon EF lens at the native focal length of the lens (usually for Canon APSC cameras there's a crop factor of 1.6X; it eliminates the crop). It also opens up the aperture by some factor. Which means f/1.8 can go down to f/1.4, allowing more light and providing shallower depth of field as well.
So what he's saying is, using the viltrox speedbooster the extra crop at 4K will not be present. Hope you got it.

I have the m50 and because of the 4K crop + af and the lenses and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you get a good deal - they go for under 400 with kit lens sometimes, that I can recommend for a starter!

Thanks for this comparative review ! From the first clip (at 1:20), and it's very visible, the Sony looks sharper and focuses better/faster on the subject. And seems to have a better contrast, but we'd need to know the true grey tint of the car. At 4:10, IMHO Sony's 4K also looks better/sharper... Unfortunately, the ZV-E10 is out of stock since a while (on back order: Sony will produce more since we can preorder on most eCom site like B&H).

It`s the Sony, cuz it's better at video and it has lens compatibility, so down the line when you wanna go pro with your photography, you won't have to adapt or change all your license everything will just fit.
I started my digital camera journey with Canon EF lenses. I wanted a smaller camera -due to disability - so I moved to the M50 knowing I could adapt my lenses using either a speedbooster or a standard adaptor. I am perfectly happy with the 1080p on the Canon but the 4K is unusable for reasons stated in your video. So I bought ZV-E10 as an option to move into 4K eventually, tho' I don't have a fast enough computer that can cope with 4K video processing at present. Also 7artisans make an EF-Sony E adaptor which means I can use my EF lenses on the ZV-E10. I'll see how good that is when it arrives in the post. Owning a Canon system, an Olympus MFT system and vintage zuiko system, starting a new Sony system ain't gonna go down well with the missus. Nice video which makes me think the ZV-E10 is a good choice going forward.
Well it sounds like overtime you could invest in a new computer to handle 4k video from the Sony.

Thanks for the in-depth review Parker. Very interesting. The big fly in the ointment is that you simply can’t buy the Sony ZV-E10 currently. The last shipments went out at the very beginning of Dec 2021. It’s currently 31st March 2022, and this is out of stock everywhere, as Sony has literally stopped making them, supposedly because of the chip shortage.

I have to say I prefered the video of the Canon you shot at the beginning. It felt sharper, particularly on the guy at the back. I also liked that it had a proper viewfinder, which is great for photos.
Clearly, if I bought the Canon I would probably have to shoot in 1080P, as your cropping example was terrific at explaining why the cropping on 4k was a big deal. Do you think that only shooting in 1080 vs 4k is a big problem in 2022?
If you were buying a camera right now, and literally couldn’t buy the Sony, and were say choosing between the Canon and the alternatives, or the next camera model up (that could be more expensive, but be better longer term). What would you buy? (I really do want a viewfinder anyway, as photos are just as important as video)

For some reason, everyone forgets about canon M6 mark II that has dual pixel, eye detection autofocus and not cropped 4k, no overheating, and about 32Mpx 😏

I think not having an articulating screen is the reason nobody talks about it. Canon messed this one up.
@@snowwalker9999 i have both the M50 and M6 markII and the articulating screen is not a big deal ☺️ flip up is fine as well
The flip up screen is better for self monitoring too if you find yourself watching the screen the eyeline looks more natural than the flip out on the m50
It wouldn't be a fair comparison, as there is at least a 300 $ difference between the sony and this canon

I’m confused by the stabilization stats in the video. I have the ZV-E10 from what I’ve seen you can turn stabilization to off, Standard (uses the OSS in the lens) and Active which is digitally done and causes a 1.4 crop. I usually just leave it off so I can stabilize using the gyro data in post.

Great Comparison with Sony and Canon, however I think the Canon is the true winner because of longer battery life, easy to operate touch screen, you can still adapt the lens mount to use full frame lenses, Sony has better 4k but overheats due to oversampling. Canon has a Nice color science and you can actually still buy this camera today. Sony decided to kill off the ZV-E10 to push buyers towards its more expensive models especially with the chip shortage.

The Sony does not overheat, that's not true. They forgot to change one option to prevent this from happening. And you can also use full frame lenses on the Sony APS-C. I would never choose the M50 II Over the ZVE-10... It's just a no brainer.
There is NO overheating on the ZV-E10 if this clueless reviewer had turned on the High Temp option. ZV-E10 is still available, at least in my place.
Those things your mentioned doesn't really make M50 a good buy. As always, you get what you pay for. The ZV-E10 is more expensive than m50 and for good reasons.
@@mamamia601 Most cameras that oversample from 6k to 4k overheats. That is a fact regardless. The High Temp option you mentioned here will only delay the time overheating kicks in, thus preventing the camera from shutting down.. Otherwise you have to question the whole point of putting on this band aid if it is indeed a true 4k camera. The Sony A7siii uses the full sensor width and very unlikely overheat. This is science not debating. At the time I made the comment 10 mths ago, things have changed now and supply chain has improved so you are right the ZV-E10 is available.

There's just something in sony and canon picture coloring that makes canon's picture more lifelike or relatabke but sony's like high quality and vibrant artistic and beautiful
