- Come pack with me! I’m a solo female traveler that is car camping across the US this summer in my Ford Escape. This is my take on a simple and cheap SUV conversion / carcamping setup.

How does the van compare to the SUV?
“Don’t buy anything for a road-trip. Use what you got.” So true. I’ve been stressing about a road-trip in my escape with 2 cats. I have a place to stay once I get there, so this is totally what I needed to see today. I bought a pad, but otherwise, I think we’ll be fine. :-)
Good luck with your trip!! For me this bin system worked out well for about 4 months, definitely nothing fancy and permanent but there's really no need to invest in something more if its only for a short time! You are right, the mattress pad is really the most important part!

I support all the baskets 🧺!!! I immediately thought it would be more efficient to cut the foam in half and stack them to have more padding to sleep and also have a flatter, firmer surface for the bins and baskets. Yes to the wok and two backpacks and books hehe.

This map actually ended up being a life saver. Many areas I was in had zero cell service! Turns out they're not that hard to read after all lol

Very cool. I know it's an old video, but if you haven't added it by now might consider a rooftop storage tote (Thule is a great brand). Waterproof and weather resistant and can hold 90% of that without needing the grey totes. Keep having fun and adventuring.

I have the exact same Ford Escape as this one, except mine’s just 2 wheel drive! I took it camping and slept the night in it too!

Haha it can be intimidating at first and totally isn't necessary for a lot of fun projects! I bought mine when I was about 15 and learned pretty much everything I know from TH-cam. So many great resources out there!
@@erin_elyse Hand sewing is very relaxing and is great when you can't use a sewing machine.
I think it would be great to have a roof rack with storage for all those boxes you sleep in your bed.

I recently sold this one now that I am back from my 4 month adventure with it. So sad :( Ford Escapes are great vehicles!
Where are you going to put all that stuff on the mattress when you are ready to sleep? Otherwise, it's cool.
All that extra stuff I would normally put on top of the bins or in the passenger seat. Just when I was driving it was easier and safer to have back there so I could see through my windows! I always kept the drivers seat clear though in case I needed to jump into the front and drive away in an emergency. Looking back after my 4 month roadtrip, there are definitely some things I wouldn't take again so I could have had more space but I actually ended up using most of what I brought!
Just bought the Escape plug in hybrid. Wondering now if you can keep the heat on overnight planning on camping and fishing. Sometimes a little push of heat is needed.

I HAVE A 2008 DODGE AND CONVERTING IT OMG AM I DOOMED? It’s the same car😭😭😭
OMG! I love my Dodge Caliber!! When you put the seats down it has soooo much space too! You can definitely sleep in there! My dodge unfortunently has a ton of miles and has been known to break down frequently. I felt safer in taking something with less miles and LUCKILY this was available to me. If you trust your Caliber, do it!!!! It’s a great car
I have a 2014 Escape that I turned into a full-time camper but I don't like how I have things arranged and situated atm. It just feels too clustered despite having got rid of so much stuff. My mom has a Caliber haha. It's definitely a questionable car once it ages.
My Escape was always a mess tbh so I feel you!! Haha I love a good Caliber, finally got rid of it years later now just a week ago 🥲🥲

Now that I'm home I can safely say the only thing I didn't need was my skateboard😂 definitely didn't have any extra time to be skating. Everything else I stand by taking with! If taking more things on your solo adventure makes you feel more comfortable and gets you out there living your best life, TAKE IT ALL!!!
