😂I bought it for home emergencies several years ago and think I was on the verge of ruining it from lack of use. I would never have spent that much have to carry around such a bulky and fragile solar panel if I had known I would be using it for travel. Newer brands probably outperform it as well. Just to say I wouldn’t recomment buying the big one for travel, especially for the price. The sidekick works great for smaller items and I have 3 of the palm sized chargers that I use constantly for my phone, at home and on the trail.

What a great idea! I have a SUV tent (also a Rogue) and never thought of putting the tent on the side of the car. I’ll be camping in October for the fall color 🍁 up north and this way I can keep my hatch closed to keep warm and used the side door into the tent. Genius 😅
Well, I only did it because I couldn’t put it around the box that I purchased for the back, but you are quite right. When it gets cold, unless you’ve got a way to open your hatch from the inside, which the rogue does not☹️, putting it on the side is an option. I don’t know if I will be able to do that with my new tent or not as it has elastic instead of a drawstring around the skirt.

Hey Joan! I learned a lot on that trip to Florida and I’ve changed things around a good bit since then. For that matter, I learned a lot on my trip of North and bought that new tent on the thumbnail instead of the one that is in the video!
The skirt side that connects to the car only has a draw string for a closure …. Very time consuming to draw up and is neither bug or water secure. It is also the side with the straps to hold it to the car. Turning it the other way would be even less functional. If you look at the thumbnail for the video, I have purchased a new tent that fits around my cargo box so I can connect it properly to my car, get in and out the back gate and have access to all of my doors.

The best vehicle for car camper is a hybrid. My Prius V is Frankenstein 2012 230k miles2017engine 25K miles.$6K 11/2020. The car was near perfect when I got it I removed all seating from the back added tow hitch got a Thule cargo box $300 PHX AZ. FB mkt place. You want storage outside for smelly things like fuel dirty laundry and when you're home it is perfect for dumpster diving. Taken 2 trips to PHX AZ from 70380.
I was all set on upgrading to a van. I've been looking for the past two weeks. Then I walk outside and see my 2014 Honda CRV and think . . . a hitch and Yakama box on the box is all I need. Ugh!!
I was feeling really safe on that trip. I don’t like to focus on the potential of attack and needing weapons. When I’m in a situation where I do feel insecure, then I keep them accessible.

Try to tun your tent around so the side that you keep rolled ou is toward your car. Maybe you can open your front door?

You might be careful about using craft boxes for food. They may not be food safe, though it’s a great idea!!!
I do like that ones for the spices though. I don't think I would ever use them for liquids though. Not sure about Robin.
