Hi! I just watched SUV RVing and saw the video. Loved this and your simple setup. Been contemplating placing plywood in the rear of my '16 Outback but I like the mattress better. I want to disperse camp mainly in the Sierras as I like to fly fish and was wondering what you recommend to research the Sierras for disperse camping. Many thanks for doing the video. I'm taking some of your ideas starting with the mattress and your clothes storage.
Thanks for the tour! If you are able to park near a tree or sturdy post, you can make a "dog run" for your dog by running a line from your car to the tree or post, then attach your dog's leash to the line. To keep the leash/chain from twisting around, use a swivel hook to attach the chain/leash to the "clothesline".

I recently went to Niagara falls in my 2017 jeep compass trailhawk with my pup :) im 6'2" so i was slightly uncomfortable but not bad lol. I bought a couple sun shades from the dollar store and made shades to fit in each window. We camped out in a casino parking lot right nearby lol. Courtney's confidence, experience, and rig setup is inspiring. Thanks for this video! It fired up the urge to go camping again in my Honda CRV. I went to 2019 WRTR and RTR and camped out of it there. Have been thinking I'd get a compact van but have stalled out on that. Now I'm kind of excited thinking about using the gear I already have sitting in storage ... and getting out there again. :-)

Great ideas, thanks so much. I have an old Highlander that I am brainstorming how to get it rigged for overnight camping. I also have a lot of backpacking experience and thinking my needs are more minimal than average.

Beautiful, smart, practical set-up. I love that you have everything set up so that you & Luna can explore together. Also so cool that you can then switch to using your Jeep as your regular vehicle. Thanks for sharing!
After watching tons of TH-cam videos about car camping/suv camping I finally found the perfect one! I too have a large dog, a suv with a great sunroof and the desire have weekend trips since I’m newly retired and do not need as much of a car setup since I’ll also using it in every day life hauling groceries and such. I love her ideas and advice, thank you🌞

Newly Updated Safety Suggestions; I just happened to see your channel, and others similar channels recently, and I think that you, and others sharing their actual reality, and some have expressed some of the up, and down sides to van, RV, or vehicle living. I believe that it is very helpful, and beneficial to others who may be thinking about this type of living without actually thinking through, about the some of the realistic problems that could occur with vehicle or van living etc... People need to know what up sides there are, as well as some of the down sides of vehicle living. I believe this channel, and other channels have been informative to others, including myself. Although, I am NOT living in a vehicle or anything like this. I feel that you , and others TH-camrs sharing this with your viewers will be very helpful. I wish you ALL the Best with your traveling endeavors. I shared this with another traveler as I watched their TH-cam channel for the first time, as yours, and I shared with them this information that may be helpful to you as well to others. Therefore, I would also like to suggest a few Safety tips, and items that may help you, or others in your viewing audience. Although, you may have knowledge of this already, I am not sure, so I hope this will be helpful to you, others or someone. *Keep a Extra working cellphone with you or in your vehicle. You can purchase inexpensive phone with a very low monthly price between 25, 35, 45, dollars a month with unlimited data and text, and some have Nationwide coverage Do your research for the best fit for you Carry Several Extra portable phone chargers, and cables. Consider theses items: *Mini portable power charging station. I have also seen outdoor portable solar powered power stations, that can be recharged from sunlight this may be very useful to have, to power your devices. *Invest in a Cellular signal booster for outdoor use, and camping situations to boost or amplify your cell signal and reception. Research to see what you prefer. *Very Inportant: Invest in a SOS distress electronic signal device, this a kind of device can send out a distress signal with your exact location. There are various types of these devices, and including signal that can be used when boating or camping situations. There is also the Satellite communication devices, that can provide SOS emergency signal and GPS, and provide satellite text messaging capabilities anywhere. *Some have emergency Strobe lights SOS signaling with location alerts, and location updates that can be sent to your family, and emergency first responders. Some can be synchronized with your smart watch or phone. You can check online, and on Amazon, research what SOS emergency GPS devices will be a good fit for you. *Mini portable vehicle battery jumper charger *vehicle battery jumper cables *Vehicle Jumper cables *Keep a Fire extinguisher handy Smoke, and Carbon monoxide detectors can be helpful... *Mounted Dashboard camera front and rear possibly. Exterior vehicle cameras Interior vehicle cameras *Flashlights or pluggin spotlights *Portable spotlights, and lanterns Keep a few whistles around with you, and in your vehicle possibly in your vehicle’s center console *A set of long range 2 way radios, walkie talkies, to communicate with others during trips, some have 100 mile radius keep for emergencies. Keep up with the latest Weather Updates, beware and prepare for unexpected Weather events and conditions. Keep your vehicle gas filled Don’t chance your Safety by running your vehicle fuel or gas too close to Empty. Fill it up anyway, it will save you alot of time, and headache later on. Remember to keep up on routine maintenance, check your tires for wear, keep up with your fluids for your vehicle, like oil levels, washer fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze. Remember Because you are on the road riding for sometimes very long distances, and long periods of time, I would suggest investing in 2 sets of tires, and a spare, the extra set to rotate. Check the mileage ratings on your tires they all very. Conduct visual inspections of your tires often, check for damage, wearing, air pressure, etc Keep a pressure gauge to check your tires pressure and a tire pump. Sounds like you're having fun. One idea you might try..... The bottom half of your back seat will left right out. Put it in the house or garage till you get home. That will let the back of the seat lay flat. And will give you a little extra room to put a few things. I do it and love it.
I noticed she didn't have a emergency kit (i.e. Band-Aids, Neosporin, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol wipes, ace bandage, etc) I really like the way she has her Jeep setup and I always think it's a great idea to be able to keep your dog in a safety belted situation...which I think often people forget. Thanks for the video plus I'll check out her channels!
I have two emergency kits, technically. I have one car emergency kit under a seat (forgot to show this) and another smaller one in my storage bins. I also just added a dog safety kit to my mix. Thank you for subscribing :)
My SUV is a different brand and I can remove the headrest and flip it around to reinsert thus extending head area support. Otherwise can stuff soft sided duffle or backpack into footwell area to help support the mattress area.
Very nice set up, simple and efficient. Something to consider with your bins - cover the lids, or the entire thing, with a contact paper. It comes in so many fun colors and designs.
Thank you for another great video. I already follow City Girl Unplugged and enjoyed seeing how her setup has evolved. I'm always trolling looking for new ideas that make camping out of the Jeep nicer. It is nice to see riggs that are more part time. Keep making video. Safe travels.
Thanks Tristan, Your videos are incredibly informative. Courtney is awesome! I'll subscribe to her channel, because she's doing exactly what I want to do. Just needed some encouragement!
I just want to respond to Courtney's statement that she may in the future want to build out her car sleeping arrangement. There is a group in Port townsend WA that sells kits for camping in your car. I think it is called camp car. They can custom build you a kit. for your car. You may have to go there to get it a custom one done but they do very good work at a reasonable price.
Thanks for this Tristan. Just bought a 2018 Rav 4 AWD with some ground clearancefor exactly this purpose. Hoping to start with three or four days while I figure it out and maybe get up to four weeks later as I learn more. Based in Missouri but want to see much more of our country especially out west. Mostly hope to miss a lot of winter snow in Jan/Feb time frame by seeing the desert areas. I will never be able to do the monster hikes you do for health reasons, but hope to see a lot with car camping and short hikes of mile or less. Courtney... thank you so much for sharing your get-away setup. Can relate to how the challenge is know what level of "stuff" that you want vs need insofar as packing. I've just joined this adventure mode by trading my road tripping Miata for a Subaru Forester... so I do understand and choose to keep the adventure "ASAP"... as simple as possible. Especially liked hearing your thoughts from the approx. 14 min. mark to the end of your interview. Be Safe... Be Well... Enjoy your Adventures!
Hi Rex, I also have a Subaru, it's an Outback though, not a Forester, so it's a bit lower. I'm wondering how you get in and out of the bed when it's set up for sleeping. I can't open and close my rear door from the inside, so I need to climb in an out via the rear passenger door. Is that what you do? Thanks very much. :)
@@suzannea.1716 Actually, I'm still in the process of determining just what I want to pack into my 2007 Subaru Forester. Hoping for some warmer weather... as it is 18 F here in central Washington state tonight. While I could tie a cord to my rear cargo door to pull it shut... I will likely do some body twists and turns to use my rear car door for entry/exit as you do. Like a little kid... this big kid... is getting really excited to get out on a road trip in my Forester. In the meantime, it is Tristan's adventures and his interviews with people like you that are keeping me entertained and on track with my goal to get out and about. I probably shouldn't have any problems camping in my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo EX then! I like the idea of the see-through bins (to see your camping supplies). Hi Courtney, thanks so much for this. Can you please tell me how you get in and out of the vehicle when the back hatch is closed. Do you climb in through the passenger side rear door? These conversion videos are always shown with the back hatch up, but mine can't be opened and closed from the inside, and climbing in through the passenger door doesn't look easy. I'll also be travelling with my dog so the seat extender is a great idea. Thank you so much!

Thank you! 🙃
Great ideas, thanks so much. I have an old Highlander that I am brainstorming how to get it rigged for overnight camping. I also have a lot of backpacking experience and thinking my needs are more minimal than average.
Wow this is fantastic I have an SUV myself and a little dog you have enlightened me so much I love you a whole set-up you got it all together girl happy travels stay safe 😅
Love the seat extender!!
It’s a great addition!
Obviously you’re an intelligent gal, more than capable of keeping yourself safe, it’s all common sense! Travel On, Be Free and Have Fun! Love your vid!
Thank you! 😊
I love her ideas and advice, thank you🌞
This was great, I follow Courtney on both of her channels and now follow yours! I love her she is such an inspiration! looking forward to watching more of your videos..
You are so sweet ❤️❤️
Hi Courtney! Love your channels - it was so funny (and nice) to hear your voice as I was listening to Tristan do a tour. Thanks for the ideas.
So cool to see you on here! I have watched one of you others channels and do resale as well. I just started gearing up for car camping myself and am almost ready! I'm older but am really looking forward to that!
Wow! I love her setup becasue its SO SIMILAR to mine. I have a unmodified Honda Pilot. And use it for 2 to 4 days weekend camping. Ice chest, Heatshield is a great product based out of Morgan Hill. I have them as well. Along with an ANKER power bank just to recharge my phone and USB fan. Also Lucy lights is a great option. She sounds like shes from the Bakersfield area. I live in Fresno so I often go to Pismo, or Monterey.
Awesome! Sounds like we have a similar concept. I’m actually up in the Tehachapi Mountains. I live an hour away from Bakersfield. So many amazing places to visit around your neck of the woods as well! 😊
@@citygirlunplugged Yes! I just scribed to your channel :). I just watched your YNP vid. Me personally I cant stand YNP because of the amount of people that go there. Its ridic. Im only 45 min away from it and Ive only gone once and dont care to go back. Im more of Pismo, Monterey, Bodega Bay camper. Im looking into the Lake/Mt Shasta area. And, If I can get over the fear of dusty situations when camping I might do Red Rock or the desert areas during the winter time of course :). Can I make a rec? I just learned this last week?
This is perfect, I have a Jeep Compass.
Thank you, I'm going to be doing this full time.Im working on my Honda CR-V.I will no in Dec, when I'm headed out.All these van set ups an builds has given me alot of Ideas.Safe travels.Ttisten is such a great guy.I enjoy his videos.Hes has great Ideas also.Do you ever have trouble finding water.Im going to do this full time.
Newly Updated Safety Suggestions;
I just happened to see your channel, and others similar channels recently, and I think that you, and others sharing their actual reality, and some have expressed some of the up, and down sides to van, RV, or vehicle living.
Although, you may have knowledge of this already,
I am not sure, so I hope this will be helpful to you, others or someone.
*Keep a Extra working cellphone with you or in your vehicle.
You can purchase inexpensive phone with a very low monthly price between 25, 35, 45, dollars a month with unlimited data and text, and some have Nationwide coverage
Do your research for the best fit for you
Carry Several Extra portable phone chargers, and cables.
Consider theses items:
*Mini portable power charging station.
I have also seen outdoor portable solar powered power stations, that can be recharged from sunlight this may be very useful to have, to power your devices.
*Invest in a Cellular signal booster for outdoor use, and camping situations to boost or amplify your cell signal and reception.
Research to see what you prefer.
*Very Inportant:
Invest in a SOS distress electronic signal device, this a kind of device can send out a distress signal with your exact location.
*Mini portable vehicle battery jumper charger
*vehicle battery jumper cables
*Vehicle Jumper cables
*Keep a Fire extinguisher handy
Smoke, and Carbon monoxide detectors can be helpful...
*Mounted Dashboard camera front and rear possibly.
Exterior vehicle cameras
Interior vehicle cameras
*Flashlights or pluggin spotlights
*Portable spotlights, and lanterns
Keep a few whistles around with you, and in your vehicle possibly in your vehicle’s center console
*A set of long range 2 way radios, walkie talkies, to communicate with others during trips, some have 100 mile radius keep for emergencies.
Use your own discretion regarding the use of any weapons.
Don’t forget to bring
Bear Spray
Pepper spray
Where is allowed
If you own a drone you can use it to survey your area for animals etc.
However, Please Be Safe and Beware of your Surroundings.
Stay Alert, and Be Safe even when stopping at Rest stops, Truck Stops, and conducting your various tasks.
Keep in often contact with your family, friends etc.
Although, I just noticed your TH-cam channel, and other similar channels.
You seem Very Aware of your surroundings and Alert, and you may be aware of many of these suggestions, however, I Don’t know, so I just posted this anyway to help anyone who may benefit from these suggestions.
Keep up with the latest Weather Updates, beware and prepare for unexpected Weather events and conditions.
Keep your vehicle gas filled
Don’t chance your Safety by running your vehicle fuel or gas too close to Empty.
Conduct visual inspections of your tires often, check for damage, wearing, air pressure, etc
Keep a pressure gauge to check your tires pressure and a tire pump.
Keep towing insurance to Be Safe if you ever need it.
It Doesn’t cost much try to get National coverage if available, or where you will be traveling.
Keep Extra financing, and savings for any unexpected issues, vehicle repairs, and overnight stays, in a emergency or if you need to rest indoors.
Keep Enjoying Yourself,
Keep Enjoying the outdoors, and Nature
Just..Please continue to
Be Positive, Safe, and Alert..
Wishing Success, Well-being and Happiness You All.
God Bless You, and everyone
Traveling, or living in their vehicles, Vans, RVs, etc.
Please Be Safe...

I watch Courtney's reseller videos and came across this one by complete accident. So cool to see her camping set up!
Sounds like you're having fun. One idea you might try..... The bottom half of your back seat will left right out. Put it in the house or garage till you get home. That will let the back of the seat lay flat. And will give you a little extra room to put a few things. I do it and love it.
I saw her set up and thought of This Girl Hikes. Very well thought out camper suv.
Thank you! It works great for me 🙂
I noticed she didn't have a emergency kit (i.e. Band-Aids, Neosporin, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol wipes, ace bandage, etc)
I really like the way she has her Jeep setup and I always think it's a great idea to be able to keep your dog in a safety belted situation...which I think often people forget. Thanks for the video plus I'll check out her channels!
I have two emergency kits, technically. I have one car emergency kit under a seat (forgot to show this) and another smaller one in my storage bins. I also just added a dog safety kit to my mix. Thank you for subscribing :)
@@citygirlunplugged 👍👍
Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I will have to borrow someone's pup and take a trial weekend trip in my Ford Escape.
It's great to see a tour of Courtney's SUV setup on your channel. Both of you have influenced my build. All the best!
So awesome to hear!! 🤗
That's the Jeep I have! Very comfy for car camping, I'm. 5' 7" and I fit great! Trailhawks are nice for camping BLM.
Love the trailhawk!
Try some adhesive shelf liner such as a dark brown wood grain on those white plastic tops.
That was fun to watch! Thanks for sharing, Courtney!!
Thanks for watching 🤗
My SUV is a different brand and I can remove the headrest and flip it around to reinsert thus extending head area support. Otherwise can stuff soft sided duffle or backpack into footwell area to help support the mattress area.
Sounds like you have a good option as well! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Very nice set up, simple and efficient. Something to consider with your bins - cover the lids, or the entire thing, with a contact paper. It comes in so many fun colors and designs.
Not sure how long I’ll use the bins, but that is something to consider! Thanks 😊
Thank you for another great video. I already follow City Girl Unplugged and enjoyed seeing how her setup has evolved. I'm always trolling looking for new ideas that make camping out of the Jeep nicer. It is nice to see riggs that are more part time. Keep making video. Safe travels.
Awesome! Thanks for the comment 😊
Cool 😎 I follow her channel
I love Luna 🐶
Aww, thanks for checking out this video, too! 🤗❤️🐕
Thanks Tristan, Your videos are incredibly informative. Courtney is awesome! I'll subscribe to her channel, because she's doing exactly what I want to do. Just needed some encouragement!
Thank you! It can be a little scary the first couple trips, but it gets easier over time! I highly recommend it! 😊
I like the simplicity of SUV builds. Thanks for sharing, I'll keep my eye out for ya too...I'm not far away 🙂
Nice! Say hi if you see me out! 👋
Awww this was really great. I’m getting a Chevy Trax soon and looking forward to giving suv camping a try
I’ll check them out! Thanks for the recommendation!
Love her setup! I too have a jeep compass. (2016)I did noticed that they changed the body style.i got alot of great ideas. Tfs.
Great setup. Looking forward to car camping my self soon. I have a 2021 Subaru Outback Premium.
Lady your camper is the easiest setup i saw ..i love it ..i have the same car 23 model and i am ready to do camping😊
I am a broken up old man but "I'm not dead yet." if you know Monty Python reference.
Good luck on your travels! 🙂
@@citygirlunplugged Thank you.
Love Courtney and both of her channels!
Aww, thank you Ruthe! 🙂
Interesting video; always enjoy seeing all the different ways of setting up ur veh for car camping. Im traveling w a cat right now. I sell at flea mrkts 4 extra travel income. Right now in window rock AZ selling.
Awesome! I love shopping at flea markets! Traveling is always better with a fur friend 🤗
I'd love to hear any tips you may have for traveling with a cat. How do you deal with litter. Did you cat take to relieving itself in the outdoors?
What do you sell at flea markets?

Thanks for this most interesting SUV RV tour. I am feeling very inspired (and I also have a big dog). I have subscribed to Courtney's channel.
Awesome, thank you ❤️
Great presentation Courtney.
Thank you! 🙂
Awesome video! Great information. Gave me lots of ideas to set up my Tiguan for weekend camping!! Thanks!
I have watched your Poshmark videos for months and stumbled across this when searching for nomad videos ! I also sell on Poshmark , this video was great and so helpful !
Courtney... thank you so much for sharing your get-away setup.
I share the fun and adventure that it is apparent that you do also. Be Safe to Be Well... 😉👍
Suzanne A. Do you have a video tour of your Subaru Outback posted online...?
Perfecto! me gusta , practico y solo lo necesario 👍🏽👍🏽 excelente demostración gracias .
Gracias ☺️
Hi 🙋🏿♀️ Courtney! Thanks for sharing 🤩
Thanks for watching! 🤗
Cool gal! Love her outlook and how she camps!
Most inspiring, all the best to this lady and her dog
Love this! Simple and effective. Thank you!
Simple was the key thing for me! 🤗
Loved seeing Courtney’s setup!
Thanks!!
Cool. Thanks guys.
You are my hero!
Thank you for sharing all this!
I probably shouldn't have any problems camping in my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo EX then! I like the idea of the see-through bins (to see your camping supplies). I only need to buy a water storage system and filtration. I already have a portable backpacking stove, backpacking/hiking meals and a heck of a lot of other regular camping gear!
I came across her videos recently as I am looking to start weekend camping in a SUV.
Awesome! Have fun on your adventures! 🙂
Great video Tristan, thank you!
I wish, I'd found it easier to pass the car theory now. Great set up
Thank you! 🙂
Great information....I have simulated setup.....both travel safe and keep going
Thank you, Betty! 🙂
Sorry, just realised it's Tristan's channel (I've enjoyed a lot of your videos so far!)but perhaps you can answer my question. I have a Subaru Outback. Thank you!
Nice setup Courtney. Thanks for sharing!
Not very good with computers but have a ton of antiques for sale. Mostly sm stuff, collectables. Can you please help me to learn how?
Love your suv camping fun and info. Lived in the High Sierra for 7 years after 10 in Reno. Love to camp but getting older . Have an suv and full intensions to set it up. Happy and blessed to meet you. Wish you well, Peggy
Love Courtney. Thank you! Just subscribed to your channel. Happy travels!
Happy travels to you as well!! 🤗
Really great video! Agreed with many of your points and recommendations
Wow, beautiful on the outside and more beautiful on the inside. What a combination. What is it with red heads and the name Courtney. Just love it.
Love her set up! Learned so much. (sadly I’m 5’11” 😜 so sleeping room is an issue)
Try removing front passenger seat for more room.
Yea, that would be tough, but moving the front seats forward would provide a lot more room. Good luck!
Thank you so very much for sharing! 👍
Wow that sun roof is amazing
Ever explore Eagle Cap wilderness, Oregon?
I haven’t, but I’m hoping to go up to Oregon next year! 🙂
What a very simple but great set-up! It is always a wise choice to invest in good quality products. Thank you for sharing ❤
I just have one question about your toilet wipes: Are they really compostable or is their some microplastic fiber in it?
Please overthink your choice if it is the latter 🖖🌎🙏
Fabulous setup. Nice and simple.
Tristan, I think it is funny that you rig toured with someone I've been cheating on you with. Courtney is fabulous. I love her ideas. Thanks for sharing.
Lol 😂 Thanks for watching this one (and cheating and watching some videos on my channel as well)
@@citygirlunplugged I hope to get enough courage to record myself doing stuff too. I am an outdoor enthusiast and would not stop at just SUV RVing. You think with a communications degree I'd be able to do it.
You are a great inspiration, Courtney.
Very nice! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this video, you might have just given this 51yr old British lady some courage to take her dog and go weekend car camping in her new Jeep Avenger 🥰
Nice neat setup! I love that you camp with just your dog. I do the same! How do you find free camping?
Great info .Especially all the links to your stuff. Thanks
Makes me want to make my truck overland camper!
You should!! 🤗
Soooo, do the seats fold down completely flat? I'm guessing they must?!?!
Thanks
What part of the Southern Basin of the Sierra Nevadas are you from? I used to live in Auburn, CA (Placer County) in the Sierra Foothills...now retired to Twin Falls, ID where we have A TON of free campsites!
Hey Courtney, would you please tell me what the measurement of your trunk space is? It's always hard to tell the space size in videos. And also, how wide is the inside of your back seat? Door to door. Thank you!.
I have always been able to "park and hide" around Big Sur. Arrive late leave b4 sun up..
where does your dog sleep at night? thanks for sharing your set up. I also have a dog and I'm looking for ideas on this.
ok/ I see now. i had missed that part of your video. Thank you
