The farmer's markets where I live in MA are SO expensive. I can appreciate all of the hard work the sellers have done with their gardens, because I have a veggie garden myself. And it's nice that they grow organic foods. But we have to skip shopping there with their high prices. One of the best markets near us is an Aldi supermarket.
Same here in KY. Aldi is my best option. Even though their prices have risen, still better than our other options.
In my country it's the cheapest and most fresh option

Hello Owen 👋
@@bonniethiessen5506 Hello Bonnie Thiessen :-)
If your husband is over 60, you could apply for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program. It's a box per month of supplemental foods meant for the over 60s on low income.
My aunts both get that😊
My mother in law did that. Those boxes are nice. 💚🌞
@@whyme7996 do you have to sign up with copies of your SSA or income?
In which states? I live in Georgia. I don’t think that’s available
@@lscott3641 You just need to look up Commodity Supplemental Food Program USDA. It is available in Georgia. It will give you all the information you need and how to apply. Or you might have a local senior services which would be able to help you apply.
Your chili looks delicious! I miss the days of having a freezer full venison, wild hog, quail, pheasant, shrimp, all kinds of fish…. My husband always kept it full from hunting and fishing. I always had my crab traps in the water. Ahhh… the good ole days. That with a garden, chickens and citrus trees. I think back now and it really ket us busy and it was a good life.
I love this! Sounds like a wonderful life, but quite busy and full of work as well.
I just retired from teaching and it is just my husband and myself. Sadly we have no children, and we often ate out for dinner because well…..it was easy and I was exhausted from teaching and just didn’t want to cook. My husband also works long stressful hours and he didn’t really want to cook either. It was just easier to go out. But I am a really good cook, and am thankful my Grandmother and Mother, both passed, taught me well. I am actually really enjoying cooking again. I like your delicious and simple goodness approach. Hubby needs a hearty meal, and I love simple recipes rather than a long detailed recipe. I have been able to take a lot of your advice and thank you so much! 😊
Good Morning Tessie, Sisters, Brothers, and Friends, wish you all a wonderful blessed Sunday filled with Gods Joy and Happiness :-) Remember to pray for one another and for all around the world :-) God Bless You ! Love you all :-) Keep Smiling be safe and warm :-)
Blessings to you!! May God bless us all and keep each and everyone safe. Praying for all 🙏🙏🙏
Our farmer's market is real expensive
Mine is too it's ridiculous
@DianeWaite-l4x it's awful trying to get fresh produce. It's so greedy
3 peaches and 2 tomatoes were$11 last summer at our farmers market 😢😢
I love hearing what you're feeding your family. Thanks for inspiring us!
Good morning, Tessie. Those were fantastic grocery tips that will really help with saving money. Shopping sales and buying store brand items has brought our bill down for sure. We've noticed the quality of the store brand is comparable-or even better-than the name brands. That chili looked amazing! Before she passed, my grandmother gifted me her copy of The American Woman's Cookbook, a gift she received when she got married in 1949. It's a treasured book for me, and I love using both it and other vintage cookbooks I've inherited from her or been able to find for the exact reason you mentioned with the Amish cookbooks-recipes with everyday ingredients we always have on hand. I love the simplicity and comfort of the recipes. Have a blessed day! ❤
@@laurakuehlke1320 you are so blessed to receive such a gift. I'm sure your grandmother looks down and smiles every time you look at it. Blessings
@ that was such a thoughtful and kind thing to say. Thank you! It is a cherished book for sure. Have a blessed Sunday!
I am very blessed to work for a smaller company whose owner has chickens. There are four of us who take turns getting a free dozen eggs about once a week. What a wonderful way to help employees without necessarily giving raises. We get free garden produce several times throughout the summer as well. This year I will be trying my hand at canning so I can take advantage of that generosity.
I have a small oven that air fries, bakes, broils, and toasts. I use that and my crock pot to help save on electricity. When I do use my oven, I make sure I batch cook so I am utilizing the electric I am using. I also meal prep for dinner and my lunch for the week. I put everything in jars to keep them longer. I learn a lot from you. God bless you and your family.
Tessie I am 70 and already do things. My Grandma who lived in the Depression. Buy fruit and veggies fresh only in my season in MA
I don’t give a darn about brand names. In fact my kids always get the store brand of some things cause we like them better😊❤
Hello Everyone Welcome to Tessie's Channel :-)
Hi Owen good evening 😊
Hiya Owen 👋🏼
@@foreverlovely2580 Hi Forever Lovely Good evening :-)
@@tamimercer476 Hi Tami :-)
Hello Owen 🤚
I go to my local stores and I buy meats and fruits and vegetables and dairy that is on sale and then I go home and I figure out what I’m going to make with what I have purchased on sale. This seems to work out the best for me because I am eating what’s in season as well
I was hooked on Pam and Peggy when they were the Slob Sisters!! Love their books!
OMG Tessie I have always loved the sidetrack home executives!! Their system saved me as a young single person trying to keep my house clean while working!!!
I do purchase my King Arthur Flour and oatmeal in the 50 lb bags because I actually use it up. I store it correctly. The flour I purchase I use for bread, rolls, hamburger buns, brat buns, english muffins, egg noodles, spaghetti noodles, pancake mix and waffle mix. I will go through 50 pounds generally in one year.
I go through a lot of oatmeal because I use it to make a double batch of granola bars each week plus a batch of granola. We also enjoy oatmeal cookies. I also make oat bread so I will grind the oats into a flour and mix it with the King Arthur flour.
The farmers market in my area has very expensive foods . So I go too a local farm and get what ever is on their food stand . We grew a garden for 52 years but are unable too take care of it now. But we use too do all the tips that Tessie has told everyone today. Having a deer every year was a huge help when we had children home . But we grew our own chickens for meat and eggs.
My husband hunts and processes all our own deer meat! We grind it, cut steaks and loins, make all types of sausages and jerky with it. My husband and son are currently hug hunting right now.
Got chili in the crockpot right now ❤❤❤❤ I’ve had 2 crockpots over 40 years and I can’t live without one. Use mine 3 times a week during school year (teacher life) 😂😂😂
Hi Tami. Tina😊
We do some soda. Walmart generic in 2 liters… an indulgent for sure. But nice treat.
The chili looks yummy! Thank you for sharing! God bless you and everyone here.❤
Hi Kimberly, blessings to you also. Tina 😊
A good idea with the cleaning and reorganizing the fridge..clean fridge, clear mind and carefully shop😊
I love all your meal meal ideas. That store is so organized. Yummy crockpot meal😋

Great idea to make a weekly list of dinners for the week!! I love that 😊
Hi yall😊
Hi tami😊
Hi Tami :-)
Hi There Tami 😊
Hey, Tami. 😊
Tessie you have inspired me to get my act together. I have cleaned, organized and inventoried my chest freezer and my refrigerator freezer. I have a clipboard for each one with the contents of the freezer listed. Why? Because being organized helps save money too. How many times have you gone grocery shopping and seen pork chops on sale and couldn't remember if you had some already. Or any number of other items? Now when I make out my shopping list, I can see what's in my freezer at a glance and know what I need and what I already have plenty of. It stops overbuying and also works as an incentive to use those items you already have on hand. I also try and use up whatever produce we buy, not letting anything go to waste. And I love my crockpot! Throw stuff in it in the morning and have a hot cooked meal at night. I utilize my bread machine as well. Today I made chicken Alfredo soup to use the mushrooms in my fridge and paired it with some black pepper cheese bread. Oh, my house smelled so good. I also bought a meal planner for five bucks from Amazon. It has a place for a week's worth of meals on the left and a tear off grocery list on the right. Keep giving us tips Tessie, we're listening.
Tessie, These are great tips I've applied a few of them it's hard to get things for $30 a week here but I'm trying never had venison yet some day maybe dinner meals look good :-) Love you my Sister :-) God Bless You and Ken :-)
Tessie I do go to our farmers market and I have garden too their are some vegetables I don’t plant so I go . Very true never go to the store hungry ❤
Good Evening Tessie, Sisters, Brothers, and Friends, Be sure to hit that like button Tessie will appreciate it greatly also be sure to watch all the ads :-)
Good Evening Owen 🙂
@@pr9764 Good evening P R :-)
We arent baking right now for health reasons. If we were, we would only be using eggs in baking and with ground meats as a binder. And even so, we would be reaching back to Great Depresion and WW II recipies that used fewer eggs. - Someone we know gets a quantity of eggs, we were invited to thier house for a company type dinner, amd asked what we wanted. Skip the roast, the roasted turkey, the salmon, the fish, and the seafood! We wanted an egg based breakfast for the meal!
Just ordered the book 😂
Looks funny and good for organizing.
❤❤❤❤
Great job to your hubby for bagging a deer. My husband used to go hunting every year. Venison is the best meat ever along with elk meat. I never liked moose meat though. Fishing also gave us plenty of fish. Your chili looks really good!
Crockpot a staple kitchen go to in my home. i love making chili in the crockpot. I just made a chili and meatballs the other day 😄

I absolutely love deer meat ❤❤ haven’t had any in a good while sadly I adore your channel Tessie I’m just 39 an my mom is gone mamaw gone so you have kinda took there place I have learned so much from you which I forever will be grateful I watch you everyday I don’t comment every time but best believe I watch your videos I’m excited to start a lil garden this year I have a lot of plans an I want to thank you for teaching me you just done know how much I appreciate you❤❤--Paula from East Tn
So sorry for your loss Paula. You're right, Tessie is a wonderful teacher. I've learned so much from her over the years. May God bless you. Tina 😊
@ thank you Tina
So sorry you lost your momma. We heart adopted (what we call it in our home) our daughter Jewel because by the age of 34, she had already lost both of her parents. We aren't taking their place, just adding to her life.🙂 We are now grandparents to their three children!
Crockpot is my favorite gadget !
What do you line your fridge shelves with? I couldn't tell if it was cloth, silicon or maybe some kind of parchment psper.😊 Anyway it's a great idea as we're always getting little spills in the fridge. I've got teens at home and they are always in a hurry and not the tiddiest.😊
I was wondering the same thing??
I use the vinyl shelf liner roll (like for dresser drawers) from dollar tree…just cut to size.
deli paper and get it really cheap I bought it last year and I have like 300 pieces of it it's wax on the one side
Omg $17.00 for 30 eggs 😢😢😢 I'm crying for you 😭😭 How can they raise the cost of eggs at such a ridiculous price. Here in Ontario Canada, it's $9.99 and I thought that was high. Wow I'm floored. These prices need to come down and fast 😞. Lord help us 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Id think about getting chickens again.
My husband built me a chicken house and put chicken wire on one side, hardware cloth on another (door also) and ran an electric fence around it. He said “a hundred pound gorilla with a Dewalt won’t be able to get in there!”
And they didn’t. Oh and he buried the wire about a foot below the ground so they couldn’t dig in.
I pay $5/doz from my chicken lady. She loves her 100 hens as much as Tessie loved her chickens. I recovered my health on the carnivore way and buy 10 doz per month. Eggs are God's golden food packed with nutrition. A perfect food.
@jylking6313 $5 to $7 a dozen from the farmer down the road here. I'm thinking of getting chicken. The cost keeps going up and well hubby eats eggs every morning
@@jylking6313
GO CARNIVORE! 💪🏼
🥩🥓🧈🥚🥚🥚🥚
Bird flu is the reason.
Dairy has gotten really high so I decided to make my own cottage cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, Kiefer, and yogurt. That gallon of milk saves me money.
Hi Tessie! We don't buy any of that stuff either. I have been doing everything you have been doing and saving lots. Good tips Tessie! Thank you for doing this and teaching us. Several years ago I started prepping (not for doomsday, I never live like that) and went wild and then like you, realized I had too much flour and of some things that I don't use regularly 😆 Through your wisdom and what you share on the channel I learned the way to prep my pantry the way that it works for my family. I need one of your magic wands 🤣
Totally agree. Do not shop when your hungry. I definitely will buy more.
😊 Hello everyone
Hello Lisa. Blessings to you. Tina 😊
Oh, Tessie! I love the Sidetracked Home Executives. The two sisters were featured speakers in the early eighties at my church’s ladies retreat. I had 3 X 5 cards for years.
Your chili looks delicious, and I love venison meat. Watching you reorganize your utensils made me smile because I have mine in a vintage green flower pot and sometimes I feel they can be just totally out of control! That's a good suggestion about once a week CORN because I hate when I go through my fridge and find something that got shoved to the back and forgotten and then it's no good any longer. Hope you stay safe in that big storm heading your way. ❤
Hi Tessie! I will be glad to get the upcoming surgery over with. I am looking forward to cooking all kinds of goodies after I have recovered .
Adding more healthy bean meals to your weekly menu will save you money. 👍
Excellent video Tessie..quick question what do you use to line your refrigerator shelves with? Great idea …
Sometimes I use deli paper and sometimes I use refrigerator shelf liners
I'm glad I found your channel. It's so nice to watch your videos each day!
Tessie you need one of those magnetic knife strips you put on the wall.
Do you have wheat berries in your pantry? I just got a grain mill last week and made a loaf of honey wheat bread with fresh milled flour. 😋
Yes I do!
In my country farmers market is the cheapest, and they have everything .
Food (all kind buts ,eggs, cheese sausages ,meat ,fish ) cleaning supplies, clothing, everything.
I buy from supermarket market almost very rarely these days.
(Sorry for my bad English)
I've been very surprised. I stay home A LOT and really enjoy it!! I went to a big box store today and saw prices of veggie plants, I nearly passed out!! Are you kidding?? I live in Florida and we have been devastated by 3 hurricanes this year so I didn't get any seeds started, we are still recovering. I thought I could find a couple veggie plants to get something from.$10 a plant??!! Are you joking?? I get my huge bag of fruit and veggie soil for that price!! What on earth happened? I buy dried seeds for $2-$3 a pack online.
Have you thought about getting chickens again in your yard?
good tips, Tessie!!
I Find That A Weekly Meal Plan Is Essential -- It Stops Me From Overbuying😊,
Blessings To You And Kenny,
Andrea
I agree with the meal planning!! When it comes to leftovers, I either make the tv dinners right away for the freezer or I place them on one shelf (easy to find) if we are going to finish it off the following day. It is extremely rare that we ever throw food away.
awesome job doing the same thing myself
I always loved the Sidetracked Executives! Their books were so fun and useful!
❤❤❤❤❤❤ blessings 🙏🏾
Tessie I am on SS and food shop once a month. I already do I this. I shop at Aldi. Eggs there are 699.
Please check with your states Dept on Aging to see if you are eligible for assistance. There are so many programs out there for seniors. Blessings
With the deer you can take the bones and make broth also
Thought you had a meat grinder at one time. I could be wrong. Otherwise thrift one and grind your own deer meat. Save even more $$
This week I came in $11.80 under my grocery budget! And of course I transferred that into my savings account!😂 It really does add up each month. I make my husband and I tv dinners also because that's a form of "fast food" around here because nobody delivers out here in the country. I have the same plastic containers you have.
I so enjoy when you take us grocery shopping with you and cooking & baking! I learn a lot from you and its relaxing to me.
Another $$ saving idea. Make friends with your local grocery employees. If there's a good deal coming up, especially if something is being marked way down, they can give you the heads up.
Right now I’m working on using up my stock pile. I’m not very good at rotating! I buy meat at a local butcher shop. The meat is better and cheaper than at the grocery. It’s just the two of us now. Our neighbor hunts on our property and gives us deer meat which is wonderful. Thank for the tips.
Thank you for the helpful tips Tessie. I buy off brand items as well it sure does save a lot of money. Your chili looks yummy 😋 have a great day ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Tessie, I ran the numbers on electrical use of a crockpot vs a electric pressure cooker. The crockpot costs more. Of course, the dividing line is.... you have to already own the electric pressure cooker. The money savings is not enough to cover the cost.
Same thing for a electric burner to a induction burner. Induction is cheaper to run... if you already have one. (I got mine as gifts or handmedowns)
Your chili looked yummy! Tessie, your kitchen ALWAYS looks so cozy and adorable. I looked up the book you shared "Future Christian Homemakers" and it looks really interesting but expensive. Have to keep checking back to see if I might find it cheaper. We will see 😊.
I plan to eat meals this week and next week from freezer
Food is crazy high. Our eggs for a 60 count box is $21.00 to $22.00.
Tessie, can you have about 4 hens where you are? They don't eat that much, feed is about $14 for 50#. And they'd produce enough eggs for you two. Plus they will help make compost for the garden.
At one time we had chickens we actually had chickens for over 14 years but a little over a year ago we gave the chickens that we had left to our daughter because we have a family of foxes that live in our woods and killed many of our chickens
I have that book. I also have the one about the kitchen which I can't think of the name of it right now. And you know they are the ones that start the whole fly lady system. Love them.
Last week when you got the eggs, I was surprised. Kroger had them on weekly deal for 3.99 and I think it was for 18. We don't buy them often, so I haven't been affected by the increase, yet. It's coming.
Not a fan of venison but many folks are. People have tried for decades to try and prove that they can cook it in such a way that I can't tell lol but I can always tell. It is what it is and nothing covers up that weird flavor.
The food looks yummy!!! Have a great Sunday!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
I rarely shop at the Farmers Markets, but I do sell some of my woodshop items I make at the Farmers Market. My advertisement is "Grow Your Groceries!". I make many items to help people grow food on a smaller scale in order for people to be able to get started without being overwhelmed.
Thank you so much for channel , so many helpful ideas, recipies, and peacefulness in the sometimes crazy world ❤

Thank you for sharing your money saving tips. Most I already use, but learned a few new ones!! I so miss deer meat!!! My late husband used to hunt with my brother. We loved deer chili mm mm! Tina. 😊
I have alpha-gal from tick bites. I'm allergic to deer meat, beef, pork, lamb and brown meat chicken. I miss all my foods. Now I have problems with milk, ice cream, cream cheese and kale. So I have to have allergy test to see what else. I love watching you Sis
Not first but on time and so so happy to be here❤❤❤
Good evening, Tessie!❤
Usually, were reasonably satiated before going to the grocery store but in '23 I was hungry, h u n g e r y and it was very tough sticking to the list. So much so it surprised me and I remeber it and even the year. Because we are back to trying to only shop on the way home from other we have gotten into the grocery store parking lot on the hungry side. If we dont have food in the vehicle, were packing food for our longer trips, we run into the grocery store and buy something quick to eat. Either way, we eat in the parking lot before actually going grocery shopping.
I was wondering where you got the seasonings from.
I hit the thumbs up button did you?
I do need to can up some of my dried beans again since I'm getting low. I noticed it when I made a pot of chili earlier this week. I want to make ham and bean soup this coming week with all that snow predicted. I made homemade chicken noodle soup today and gave half of it to a friend who is sick. I really appreciated the celery I canned since I didn't have any fresh. I got that idea from you! Your chili looks wonderful!!
Thank you Tessie! Always love to hear your endless ideas! Your dinner and homemade chocolate chip cookies look delicious! 😊
Hi Tessie ❤ we always drink distilled water 💦 use it to make coffee and hot tea. The city water is nasty in our town.
We never buy convenience meals, i always make single ingredient foods, absolutely yes i do clean our refrigerator out before grocery shopping, we always have 2 suppers of left overs weekly, i make our bread, cookies, cakes ❤ we eat pork, beef, thats it.
Crockpot heck yeah Sister 🙋♀️
Do you use chili powder in that? It looks very good and filling. I always make cornbread to go with ours.
Yes I do!
That looks delicious. We are in Texas, but after living many years in New Mexico, we have to have red chili seasoning. We order Chimayo powdered chili from New Mexico. It comes mild, medium, or hot. Some Texans add beans to chili, but New Mexicans never do.
Why do you have spices in tiny jars in an Altoid container?
Where did you find those tiny bottles?
Didn’t I hear some Mannheim Steamroller? I didn’t see it listed in your music list. 🧐
Your chili looks delicious! You know what I would do? When you get down to the last third or fourth of your crockpot, throw in some cooked white rice, then throw it in the freezer in portion sizes. That’ll make it stretch even further!
I am a master at stretching food and making it last. A couple weeks ago, I reorganized my frig/freezer. Having not purchased any meat for quite some time, I was sure I would need to, soon. Oh nay, nay! I still have enough meat to easily last me another 2 to 3 months! Living alone and being frugal can be really good for the wallet. And no, I don’t have a garden, and I do not eat game meat of any kind (this is after my deceased husband made me try one bite of rabbit. I did, but before I could even start chewing, I started crying). 😢
No that wasn't the Manheim steamroller youtube music the spices came from Townsend website I got it as a gift for Christmas
This might be a crazy question for a budget page but I was just wondering if you guys go on vacation ever?
not in 7 years last one was a free trip to the Mountains
