@@KingKan nope, it was always episode 5 George Lucas changed the original to episode 4 a new hope in 1981 to match it with episode 5 because he knew he wanted to do prequels at some point during making episode 5
Hehe yeah. I do often wonder what fans must have been thinking at the time The Empire Strikes back first went out in 1980 and saw 'Episode V' in the opening crawl.
Vader was even more ruthless in this film, since Tarken and the rest of the imperial officers died in the death star he was left in total command under the emperor and made sure everyone knew it.
For me and probably most people.. the best of the 3 films... Not only that, the opening scene where the probes start flying from the star destroyer is amazing for 1980
I've been wondering about this shot too - *if* it was in the original I'd guess the effect would have been achieved by dressing someone in a Tauntaun suit (not to scale) with their head poking out as the head of Luke seeming like he's sitting on top (like those pirate holding mermaid costumes you see on UK piers - notice how limp the tauntaun's head is) running through the snow on location - notice that the shadow looks like a person running - filmed from a chopper - scale is impossible to gauge.
I love The Empire Strikes Back so much because it’s always my favorite Star Wars film from the original trilogy. also, my favorite characters in this movie is Lando Calrissian, Boba Fett, Bossk, Lobot, IG-88 and Jedi Master Yoda.
Mine was all about Lando Calrissian which was how the world was introduced to. The ultimate space hustler in all the galaxy. Always catch SW5 on TNT every other weekend switching off all my devices to not to be disturbed and bask into watching how the brother puts his hustle to work although he double-crossed at first but he already had his plan lined up to both release his friends on Bespin as well as partaking in releasing his comrade Solo from Jabba The Hut on Tatooine,(SW6 Return Of The Jedi). Hoping one day he has his own series based on novel stories centered on him sometime in the not-too-distant future and look forward to it when it happens.

my father grew up with the original theatrical version of The Empire Strikes Back. he was a kid at 10 years old when he first saw it in the theater with my grandpa back in 1980.
Right, again, the crawl gives us the context for this story: Empire is pursuing the Rebels everywhere, Vader obsessed with finding Luke... I don't believe the Disney trilogy opening crawls do any of this, which is part of the reason why no one really understands the Disney Star Wars stories.
The Force Awakens did that perfectly though... It set up that Luke vanished in the time that passed since the Battle of Endor, that in his absence a new military threat rose from what was left of the Galactic Empire and their legacy, that Leia led an opposing group that combated their efforts to seize control of the galaxy, and that she was making it her mission to find Luke to convince him to aid in their fight, to the point where she dispatched one of their own to a remote planet to seek someone who already has a clue to where he is, leading directly into the Jakku Village raid scene I don't remember the Last Jedi crawl since it's been a while since I've seen it but it is far better than Rise of Skywalker, which reads like it was written by me when I was 10 doing short stories for English class in elementary
I’m sure it did. I dreamt about this movie. I had a dream that I was in the scene where I met Lando Calrissian on Bespin and I was also in the scene where Darth Vader reveals that he’s my father.
The bad part is that here in the Philippines, when I was a kid, Hollywood movies typically took 1 to 3 months (sometimes longer) to be shown here after U.S. theatrical release. Strangely, a pocketbook-sized Empire Strikes Back comics adaptation showed up in my school's library months before the movie's Philippine release and students were all over it. I never got my hands on it because it was always borrowed out. So everyone already read it and my classmates spoiled everything to me. I overheard them ethusiastically talking about Vader's revelation and shit even if they haven't seen the movie yet. So when I finally got to watch it, the Vader revelation had less impact. But I still loved the movie and I still think today it's the best SW movie ever.
Yes. The only one that did not have an episode number originally in the opening crawl originally was Episode IV A New Hope - but, that was added in when the movie was re-released in theaters in 1981 and has carried it in every print since then. Those claiming the episode numbers were not there until the prequels have no idea what they are talking about - part of their spin to claim Eps. 1-3 were never intended to be made because Eps. 4-6 weren't labeled as such until those other movies were green lit. It is complete, total fiction.
Star Wars wasn't made that way, The Empire Strikes Back was called EPISODE V from the start because the original Star Wars film A New Hope was written as the 4th film in the storyline when George Lucas wrote it, but it was released as the original film because the other Star Wars movies weren't made yet. Fox only wanted George to do 4 and that was going to be it, but when Star Wars became a success they let Lucas do what he wanted to do in the first place and that's why the original film became 4 instead of the original one in the timeline which is now called The Phantom Menace.
Funny, I only now noticed this... it's commonly known that the whole wampa scene was put together just to provide an in-universe explanation as to why Luke's face was scarred throughout the movie (as Mark Hamill had been involved in a serious car crash in between the first two episodes) and the wounds indeed do make their debut during the attack... except that he has them on his face whereas the wampa had hit him on the back of his head and since we can see him hit the ground, we know they may not have come from the surface impact. Oh well.
So at what point did Lucas decide that these batch of movies were 4, 5 and 6? Because the original 1977 text from ANH was just STAR WARS. No title or Episode #
George Lucas didn’t put episode IV- A New Hope on the title because he was certain that the movie would fail. When it was rereleased before Empire came out, Episode IV- A New Hope was added. Then all other movies after it had numbers
The reason why Star Wars didn't have a number in it is because that was going to be the only one made, there was no guarantee of it becoming the pop culture phenomenon that it wound up being. It was only after the success of the original Star Wars film that George Lucas started adding the numbers to the Star Wars sequels the way he wanted them to be in the first place. The original Star Wars movie was always meant to be called Episode 4 because that's how he wrote it but Fox wouldn't let him to prevent the audience members watching the film to be confused as to why it says 4 when the other Star Wars movies weren't made yet.
So even when it first came out it was titled episode 5? I knew Lucas always had plans for the full nine movies but I didn't know they'd list the episode numbers before the prequels were even heard of
JCX Productions interesting. I heard he did have a storyline for the seuqels to the original trilogy focusing on luke's children but I don't remember where or the details so I could be wrong.
Most of this movie was great. I think they could have made the ice creature a little more realistically scary. I watched that as a kid and thought that Yukon Cornelius had already dealt with that thing.
So they always planned for these to be after some prequels? They even changed Star Wars to Star Wars IV a New hope in a re-release for theaters in 1981. Wonder if people questioned it?
What are you talking about, Earth doesn't exist in Star Wars? Every single Star Wars movie since 1977 prefaces that it does. Thus, it making Earth a reference point to that time and setting.
