It doesn't matter what you do, I always love watching and listening to you giggle, laugh, mutter under your breath, experimenting, laughing the most when you "mess up" 💕👍💕 this was so much fun. And! It really inspires to just go and play, try, no matter if you know the "right" technique or not. Thank you so much 😘😘😘

What a fab video. I love how your prints came out. I also love that you made a video while you figured it out rather than perfecting your technique and then making a video. That is so much more inspiring. Tfs

Omgoodness lmao You’re killing me 🤣 I always have a piece of copy paper to the side to roll off the paint in between each color; that way I don’t get unwanted mixing. And yes, darker colors first. My final layer will often be titanium buff so the other colors really standout. Once a layer is dry if can be lifted when you spread another thin layer of fresh paint over top. I know you are going to get lots of comments about this lol You were cracking me up! Happy Playing!

Omgoodness, this was fun to watch, I had no desire to get a gelli plate until now, I love that you showed your exploration with us and didn't make out it was dead easy. The colours are amazing, I was thinking the leaf shapes that lacked definition, you could always draw round in pen, doesn't even have to be black pen, maybe a brown or other autumn colour. Great video once again, I can't wait to see what you do with these 🙂💕🦋

Hi Barbara! Thank you for your videos. I love them and especially love your spirit and loving upbeat personality. It lifts my mood every time I watch. From my experience with the plates, as soon as you take your stencil off the plate rub the paint on the stencil immediately on to a piece of paper. That is where you get some of the best prints. Have 2 pieces of paper ready. One for the plate and one for the stencil. It's so fun. Oh and add dots of 2 or 3 colors and brayer it gently so they don't get fully combined. Love you and love your videos. I'm addicted to junk journals now.

Barbara, if you let the ghost print of the doily dry and then use a very light color over it, you will be able to pick it up. It’s difficult to think backwards, but the bottom lay that you see, ends up being the top one on your paper. Hope I explained this right🤷🏼‍♀️
Gelli plates definitely have a large learning curve! Loved what you did, and sorry you could not hear me telling you to wait and let those ghost prints dry😂😅

love that you had so much fun and took us along as you learned. Remember most yellows are translucent, so it is hard to get a good print over another color, try mixing a little white with yellow to make it more opaque.

Enjoyed watching you playing and experimenting. It would help if you roll off your brayer so you don't mix colors unintentionally. Also, it helps to rub a bit harder and longer to lift the print. I've even used the brayer for that. Using a deli type paper will remove the paint more easily when you have something thick like the doily. When starting out, it is easier to do differently colored layers by using multiple pulls 9f single colors rather than trying to do it on the plate. Gelling arts and gel press have great tutorials.

If they paint dry on the paper, you can just put a contrasting color on top and pull the print, both colors will come up. You can also use acrylic medium, and then once it's dry, the medium will turn clear and you'll be left only with the color you put on first. You can also pull dried paint off a gelly plate using clear packing tape and use the tape for collage.

Great that you’re so willing to experiment. My 3 favourite gelli print tutors are Teresa Morgan - her step-by-step instruction
S got me into it, then Robyn McLendon - she’s amazing on the gelli plate, and Artymaze has some fab demos too. Lots of others , but these 3 have improved my gelli printing.

Yay, I love messy play😁. Yes she is very funny. I've never tried a gelli plate. I saw a great video for transferring magazine images using the plate and acrylics and it looked fab. They did let the first layer dry.I love that fibre stuff. You got some great pieces! When you lift your texture piece off you can put it onto paper and get a print from that. However I've never tried it so it's just what I've seen. That window envelope is brilliant😍. They're going to look fab together ❤. Tfs and have a great weekend 💖💖

Hi Barbara - you inspired me and after some research I found a recipe in a blog online by inatickle. It was super easy. HOMEMADE GELLIE PLATE RECIPE: 2C glycerine + 8T gelatine + 2C boiling water. Mix and heat until dissolved and clear. Pour into dish so ~ 3/4in deep. I used my lasagna dish. It can last for a long time and doesn't need refrigeration. And you can remelt it, if you damage it but it is pretty durable. I can bend mine in half and it does not break.
I had so much fun the first day - the second day I tried to do the layering thing and was not so successful, so I get how you feel!
Like Luise said - collage fodder!! Apparently you can also use water/glycerin to dampen dry ink pads.

The yellow is a transparent colour so it will just blend into any opaque colour you put with it, so if you want to use yellow on the Gelli plate as a pattern, you need to either find an opaque version, or use a much lighter colour like white or off white behind it. It does blend nicely with other colours though to vary their colour. And always do darker colours as your pattern first & work your way backwards with lighter ones. And don’t forget to let your layers dry between each one or the paint will just blend. None of the prints are complete losses though - either die cut them & you’ll be amazed how good they look, or keep printing new layers until you’re happy. Try masking off sections - cut out some paper leaves.

This is so cool. I've never tried this. I dont know why I don't have a gelly plate because it looks like fun!
Are you able to add the color over the stencil? So gelly plate, dark color, then stencil, light color and lastly paper?

    Oh, that was interesting.
Much better than a "this is how to do it, and now please repeat" tutorial. By watching you trying out several techniques, we can all learn a lot. And playing around is always fun anyway.
I recently bought my first gel medium but still have not tried it (too anxious). It looks completely different from the "normal" Gelli plate because it is opaque (custard coloured). It is a "Mixed Media Gel" from the Spanish company "Artesanía Chopo". Does anyone have any experience with that?

The cobweb type sheet from your craft store may be fiberglass, or something that is inspired by fiberglass? It looks like the insulation used in attics, etc. if you google “fiberglass mat cloth” you will see something like it. I love the items you made from its print, especially the little envelope. Very fun to watch your experiments and hear you laughing at yourself!

How fun! When you "mist" the plate, hold the sprayer away from it, maybe 12-15". That way an actual mist falls down. Disclaimer: I haven't used a gelli plate yet LOL but it seems to me that would make a big difference.

Dear Barbara, I'm just seeing the very first part of this video, but I couldn't wait to say: you should let the first patterned layer (the yellowish one) to be dried exactly but you should activate it with a thin layer of acrylic paint that is lighter than the first colour, which most of the time is white

I've gotten things delivered to the UK from German amazon before, I know its not Austria but it might be worth a try.
