  • I've already collected all the papers that I want to use in my junk journal. But how to bring those papers into a context? And how to manage to bring the different colours harmoniously together? And how to manage that all of the collected papers match the digital printable paper collection that I want to use? In this video I would like to show you how I use the gelli plate with acrylics and later on some brusho powders on my junk journal pages to bring everything together! Enjoy!

Luise - you should be very proud of yourself for making your videos in German and English. That is not easy. Your English is improving every day. You need not apologize for it. I understand every word along with your thought process. Thank you for showing us how to try new things and experiment.

I barely speak german, so couldn't imagine trying to do lots of videos in a second language. Thank you for all the hard work, time, tears, and stained fingers LOL that you ensure for us English speaking subbies💙💙💙

Hi Luise! Your laughter and giggles are hilarious, and so very contagious. I think in your past life, you were some kind of scientist, as you love experimenting and pushing the boundary's! I LOVED some of those pieces that came from that beautiful doily. They looked like old, vintage tapestries! This has been a blast watching you work away on this project! Thank you for all this fun!

Just my 3¢...... BUT.... Being the very first time I came across your channel today and the first video of yours I have seen. And I think your deffinatly making some great looking stuff.
In no way am I new to being creative or making junk/art journals etc. So in general I have learned and known knowledge that allows me to be able to easily understand what you are showing are talking about even if you may call it something different or not be able to think of the words you want to say.
But if course that happens when anyone is doing so in a second language as opposed to their main language.
So in regards to that I think your doing a great job just as you are. I think your very clear and understandable even if at times you may feel that your not.
I don't even make content, but to think that your making a video in German and then making one in English as well!?!? The time and every thing that goes into that has to be high. You should be very proud of what your are doing and making and sharing with so many people. and I hope your channel will continue to grow!!
But my point being that anyone who is new to doing junk journals or mixed media might very well not understand or know what exactly anyone they watch was showing them or talking about. But that just because they don't have the learned knowledge base to draw from. That just takes time. And also that takes actually doing and experimenting!! And not being afraid to fail or mess anything up because that's how they will learn. But just do it !!
At the end of the day I have always told people "it's just paper and paint!!" Worse case you thrown it away and your out some time and art supplies and a bit of money. But best case you learn and you creat stuff you like and you enjoyed doing it . And if you don't you can cover it up with some paint and try again !!!

Thanks for doing this in English! It’s not easy when you have to arrange your thoughts in a second language. I’m glad you are discussing “mixed media” as well. I think that is a scary term for those new to junk journaling. Maybe less scary when they realize they do it all the time in creating journals. You do a good job of showing your process as you discuss what you are thinking and doing.

I love your English, Luisa. I teach English for English learners, and your English ability is impressive. I also learn about the German language when you speak, because one tends to translate literally the expressions from one's native language, which gives me an idea of the way a native speaker would speak. Oh, and I should say that I thoroughly enjoy your tutorials. I am new to the junk journal genre, but I think I was destined to it, because or years I have been saving bits and bobs that I now realize will contribute to my junk journals. And I loved the song you and Gerri dedicated to the "community". Be well!

I agree, junk journaling is extremely mixed media which is a brilliantly freeing concept. I'm brand new to it but come from an oil painters background so love the variety and possibilities. So nice of you to answer questions! Gel plates scare me 😄, oils are so easy to control compared to other mediums. I need to relinquish control more lol WOW! Awesome results 😍. I think iridescent/metallic paint would work beautifully. Do you think a hot glue 'stencil ' would work? I think our Grandmas are always with us in our hearts. Great video, very inspirational! Also you don't need to apologise honey 😁. Tfs 💖💖

I am not exactly a beginner with gelli printing but always interested in learning. By the way the correct wording is "it depends on" LOL! My college minor was English an d like you I became a preschool teacher later in my career. I'm ceasing that for reasons similar to those you shared in a video where you describe your history. HERE IN THE us(AT LEAST IN MY PRESENT STATE) THE STATE ORGANIZATION does not adequately provide for children's welfare; instead class sizes are too large, abuses are glossed over but there's plenty of red tape to make it appear that people are doing something that actually makes a difference. Anyway I also thank you for your willingness and bravery in terms of doing a video in English. Oh, it just occurred to me that the phrase "redtape" might not be familiar to you. IT REFERS TO A SITUATION WHERE ONE HAS TO ADDRESS a lot of details when dealing with an organization or institution and those details have little to do with the desired results.

This is so great Luise, I have been wondering lately how to create a themed junk journal. I am really still very new to junk journalling, and last year I tried it first and I wasn't even sure if it was for me ( my kind of thing) in the last days(weeks maybe) I have watched many of your videos, because you are very inspirational to me and I really appreciate all the amazing context you share on your channel!!! Learning now about gelli plate printing too. I am sometimes almost speechless as to what to say. I feel a bit strange now calling you Luise, but I think you must be used to it now...I love the deep dark blue of "ocean eyes" Anyway I am halfway through this and I wanted to thank you for this.
I will have a question with regards to printing digitals at the library ( paper quality) but I will do this through your Etsy shop🙏🌊🐬🐢🐠🐚🧜‍♂️🌸

Hallo Luise i know it is a old video but i have just got a Gelli plate and are playing it. I have seen the video you and Barbera made and it help but i have some problems. I hope you Can help me. I have only use printer paper ( 100 and 120) and some watercolor paper and some mixed media paper.
If I don’t lift the paper quickly it sticks to the plate ( not mixed media paper)
I put first a medium layer of paint.
I them play on the paint
    Wait till it almost dry
I new layer of paint, thick
The paper on, press with my hand and lift
If I lift to late it stick and if I let it lay on the plate for a long time ( 10 sek) it totally stick
I have tried with rice paper and that doesn’t stick
I only use cheap acrylic paint. Is that the reason? Should I buy just 1-2 a bit more expensive. I have the paint from Søsterne grene and Tiger and a few colors from Amsterdam.🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
I hope you Can help me it is very frustrating. I would really like to learn to make beautiful prints and I see so many videos and it looks SO easy.. but not on my craft table.
A other thing….do you have a video on what to make with gelli prints because I am working on a art journal but with 1000 papers it will be a very very BIG book or I will making 500 art books 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for sharing all your ideas I LOVE you way to show 😍and gives me courage to makes videos myself even though my English is very bad.
    Hugs Tina 👩🏻‍🎨

hm.... that's strange. Is it possible that your acrylic paint is perhaps a bit too liquid? I had similar problems with my plate when the paint is to liquid

Danke! Thank you so very much making this video and posting it today. I bought a gelli plate a few weeks ago, but was a bit scared to play with it. I woke up this morning saying to myself that "today is the day"...turned on TH-cam and saw this - did you hear me somehow? haha
I found your tutorial VERY informative, so now I'm feeling confident to open the package and experiment.
I'm a textile artist that's moved into mixed media/journal making during this pandemic time. I really appreciate the time you put into these videos.

Love all of your tutorials and I am excited to try the lace with my geli plate. As for your hands, they are more beautiful covered in paints and stains than any nail polish blingy ring hands!. Your hands tell a story of someone that is not afraid to try new things and you jump right in. Your hands tell us that you are busy, and your creativeness goes from one project to the next with no holds barred! I love it!

So I'm curious, I know it would be colored but, if you rinsed/washed your grandmother's lace before it dried were you able to keep it from getting hard so you could use it again?
