When I was in 10th grade in highschool of 2012,I was a dubstep obsessed teenager and my dad a pionist musician. We didn't see eye to eye but respected music enough to buy me this exact console in gold for Christmas and to this day I still have it. Everything works still and I'm still greatful.
The SX was my first dive into to the digital controller world after spinning vinyl on Technics for over 20 years. I absolutely loved it. Now I’m rocking the DDJ 1000 with Rekordbox DJ 6. Absolute beast of a controller and love the new cloud sync feature on Rekordbox. This is the best time ever to be a DJ. Such amazing and functional technology. Thanks for the great history lesson video!!!
The only thing wrong with the DDJ SX was the crossfader! I put in a Innofader mini! I got mine a year after it was released, and it's still going strong!
same ...workx like a charm... i use Rekordbox instead tho, used to play with VDJ , works great aswell...just switched recently and falling in love with RB now
My first controller. Have always staying in the SX line and have upgraded every time a new version came out. Currently sporting the SX3. Now I’m eyeing the XDJ-XZ.
The SX is still the best controller for me. It served me since 2013 now I bought the FLX-10 it's a big jump upgrade in terms of features. I still use my SX if my gig is far away to travel
I'm still actually rocking with My DDJ SX I got 8 years ago at clubs and events. However, with the DDJ 1000 out now Im starting to save to get a upgrade! Still love my SX though
For months, I’ve been looking into finding a controller that does both Serato & DJay Pro, the latter with my iPad. I tried a few of them, and I’ve settled on a used SX2. I owned an SX3, but never really used it enough and I sold it off. Me and my DJ crew mainly use Serato, but we use my DJM-29 and the controller never left the house! But I’m really enamored by the function and features of Djay Pro via my iPad. I tried a few other controllers....the Denon MC4000, the Traktor Kontrol S2 MK3, etc. But again, I’m settling on the SX2. Asides from the Serato and Djay Pro iPad support, it also supports Rekordbox if I need it, I can attach my turntables to it, and I dig that both Pitch N Time and Flip are included in addition to Serato Pro with hardware unlocked. So much there, so much value. Thanks for the overview!
I sold my SX2 and regreted! Great controller, I’ve played with a saxophonist he used one channel of the controller, I played parties with two turntables to mix some old vinyls, it rained on top once, beer spilled on it, never had any issue!! Plus the SX2 you can also use rekordbox! 🤙🏼🔥
Bought one w/ pddessey road case for $700 10 urs ago. I still heavily use my ddj sx for all my mobile gigs. I've been doing at least 3-4 shows a week for 10 years and this controller performs beautifully with no issues. One of the main reasons I also love it is because it is compatible with both serato and rekordbox w/ Subscription. Everytime I look up a new controller to buy, I realize I have everything I need in this unit and don't need the excess. However as a fulltime club dj, I think my next purchase will be something lime the rx3 which is closer to the relordbox layout on cdjs at venues. However, I doubt thats a piece I would tale to my mobile gigs just because of long term wear and tear and potential durability issues. The workhorse is the sx.
It was and still is such a good mid-tier controller: most crucially portable too. I sold my SX2 recently after several years of admirable service, and thoroughly recommend any beginners to get an SX secondhand as a step up when you’re ready.
The DDJ SX is literally The Controller, is what redefined what playing with a laptop means. Made the jump almost 7 years ago, throwing my cdjs out and bringing a Gold SX in, and never regretted it once. Still goin strong to this day. Now it's probably time to switch to another controller that has changed everything, The DDJ 1000, that brought club layout to The DDJ series.
I used to have this white controller, I really loved it! Had to sell it unfortunately being a broke college student 😭 really was a game changer for me. Now I’m rocking with the traktor s4 mk3!
Own an SX3. Thought about going to the to the SRT but the lack of access to the Serato effects held me back. I think I'll be quite happy wit the SX3 for a while. It is my first controller. If the SRT gets a firmware update so it can use the Serato effects then I'll probably upgrade.....probably. But I'm pretty happy as is. Great video. Loved learning about this very important controller's history.
Got my SX last November at a very good price, got maintence done to it and now it's working like new. I now a lot of people that prefer the feel of the SX over the SX2, SX3 and RX.
Hey. Where & how could I seek maintenance for my sx. I've had it 10 years and has seen plenty of use and lugging around. Still works a charm and would like to keep it that way

I began DJing in 2016, and my first controller was the Pioneer DDJ-SX2. Besides needing to replace the touch component in the right jog wheel twice, it still works very well to this day. I’m hoping to be able to use this controller for at least another two years.
I have a similar history with my SX2 today. I keep looking at DDJ 1000 SRTs but as MY SX2 is still going strong I'm loath to spend out £1300 to get avery similar setup!
@@josingh20 do you think buying one used in 2023 is worth it? I'm a hobbyist Dj and am looking to upgrade my Numark mixtrack platinum fx. Great controller i did use it through my frimed who had one but ended up getting the big brother the ddj sz for jogwheel size and similar layout to cdjs
Nothing against Pioneer they make great gear but the reason the SX controller "changed it all" was MAINLY because of the Pioneer branding. Some of those club/pro features you mentioned that "paved the way..." were already on older controllers. My first controller was a Numark NS6 and it had a mostly metal build (not just the faceplate), strip search bar, dual mics, Phono inputs, same outputs as the SX. If that same pioneer controller was released as the Denon SX or Numark SX it would not have had the same success. Again, not hating on pioneer just calling as I saw it. Im glad the SX helped change how folks viewed controllers because after 20+ years I was done lugging around turntables.
dont forget that vestax vci 380 first had needle search strip with rgb pads, rotating position centre marker and filter knobs and all made for serato itch in 2011ish they were ground breaking inventors. i believe pioneer copied vestax but made 4 channel in 2012ish. both being top Japanese brands.
I still have mine, only issue is I see my EQ knobs keep moving on their own moving from left to right making it a noticeable change in audio - kinda looking for a solution tho

I had it and it was great.. Wanted more of a live beat feel and got the Roland DJ808 and it's just as beautiful but the top sequencer section is just amazing just missing the needle search really
I've been looking at the SX3 and really wanted to know the difference b/w SX/SX2/SX3 surprisingly great coverage of all three and some info on the 1000SRT which I didn't know about.
Thanx for this vid! I've been looking to rent a 2nd hand controller & it was down to the SX3 or the SZ2 and this just confirms I'm on the right track as I decided on the SX3 before seeing this
why does is feel like a video right before a new controller comes out. i really doubt a SX4 would be release anytime soon but i some how got that vibe watching this. but i love my SX2
Crossfader i do think Pioneer will come out DDJ-SZ3. Cause they follow series like the SX did 1,2 and 3. I understand some people think XZ replace the SZ series. Just kinda odd if Pioneer stop on SZ2. SX is great controller. I owned a SZ. They are very similar each other.
Hi Mate. A Great review on this Pioneer DDJ SX. The great news. I picked up a Mint DDJ SX W. It's so good. How do I release the USB Cable on the rear.. I'm OCD. I must have a white cable in there. Please advice. Cheers Steve Dee
Hi Mate. Thank you for your advice. So I gave the cable a hard pull. It come out.. That was the problem. I did not want to damage the port.. Your review on this controller. Was so great. I went out of my way to find a good one. OMG. It's so good. All the Best.. Steve Dee Dj
I have a question: I play a track and it's a new modern song, and the meter shows 2 bars on the deck, and the audio has to be pushed over to the 3 O'clock to make it loud enough... Funny enough, an old track which is very low on audio, shows RED and I have to tone it down to 9 O'clock to get it to the green zone! I had Denon MCX8000 and also Numark NSFX4 and this issue is not on any of them. I also analyze my tracks using Platinum Notes and ensuring the quality is good and balanced before adding them to the DJ library. Any ideas or suggestions? I factory reset everything including my PC and software, got the best quality track from the authorized sources and it should be cool to play without issue.
I originally started DJing on Turntables with records (before Serato). But, The 1st controller I bought (used) was a SX. Then I started having issues with it, at that point the SX3 had just came out and I bought that one. The only issue I have, is that for some reason, the left up and down channel (for the left deck) of both my controllers gave me the same issue. When I move the fader all the way up, sometimes it doesn't give the full output. I need to wiggle it a bit. The same thing happened to one of my DJ friends with the SX2. I'm curious if anyone else had issues with this, or if its a common issue with the different SX models?
Truly fantastic video. I appreciate this very much. I have the OG SX and love it but I really dislike the computer tethering part...do you know if there is a way to make it work with an iPad Pro?
I honestly think it was the S4 that was more influential. It was the first native controller that could scratch, could beatmatch, and do all the things CDJs do
That was informative and really fun to listen to - thank you!! Great video👍🏻 thinking of getting the 1000srt but wondering if I’ll miss the integrated serato FX knobs...
That's the reason I held off. The SRT beat effects can only be used one at a time, unlike the Serato effects which could be combined together. But you get MORE effects on the SRT than with Serato. Really, I think they are BOTH fine. It might take a little getting used to for each of them. I don't think you can go wrong with either the SX3 or the SRT. A firmware update could add more Serato effects. Time will tell. Cheers!
Do you recommend buying an SX as an upgrade from the 400? I’m looking at buying a 4 channel controller but I have a tight budget. Currently see a used SX for $800/$850NZD with every thing in working order… what do you think?
Great video as always everyone at Crossfader, keep the great content coming 👍🏻 I’ve had the exact same controller from new, absolutely loved it till the day it started showing a fault with right hand jog wheel, it is unresponsive when I go to touch the top of jog wheel or when I go to scratch! Anyone know of a fix? I’ve retired it for now but would love to keep it going if I could get it fixed, it’s in top condition.
Being capacitive, there are little earth wires that connect to the underside of the platter. I would image the fault lies there, take it to a Pioneer repair centre and get it back on the go! Shouldn't be an expensive fix.
Pioneer DDJ RX only compatible with kekordbox and not serato why ? It works abit with virtual dj , but your force to buy an subscription 😢 so I got all the apps, but prefer serato but so use also pioneer SR controller, also ddj RX is good for turntables etc , will serato change its software so u can use this controller or not ?😢
Just broke my SB after 4 years of work and i’m looking at getting this second hand, is it still worth it in today’s environment of controllers? note that i’m still a student and my budget is tight but i found one that goes at a very solid price
Still, a very good controller. Gives you all the functionality you need, just feels premium and can take an absolute beating. You do have the software license for Serato DJ if you had the SB, right?
@moctezumaleon same here 👍 IMO, the Best controller so far, overall, has the same format as this epic SX, + Plus option for DVS + Multi color pads. The SX3 fell off as an upgrade because of the bugs it had, many returns per Guitar Store sellers
@@mikebeats7448 Maybe bugs early on but the SX3s seem to be well received these days. I always avoid the first production runs of just about anything. I'm an early adopter but I don't want to be a consumer "tester". Another reason for me to wait on the SRT too.
Little correction about the size and the use of plastic for controllers before... The DDJ-SX is actually not a first, there was some big and mainly metal controller before. The Numark NS6 came one year before and its Traktor counterpart, the 4trak came like 9 months before the DDJ-SX...
@@kommentelek. I agree for the premium feeling and metal. These were smaller, though. The NS6, 4Trak, and in a completely other category, the NS7, were as big (or maybe bigger for the NS7) than the DDJ-SX...

I had it and it was great.. Wanted more of a live beat feel and got the Roland DJ808 and it's just as beautiful but the top sequencer section is just amazing just missing the needle search really
I just bought one and have the ambition to become an inspiring DJ may I get some more videos on this
I've been looking at the SX3 and really wanted to know the difference b/w SX/SX2/SX3 surprisingly great coverage of all three and some info on the 1000SRT which I didn't know about.
Thanx for this vid! I've been looking to rent a 2nd hand controller & it was down to the SX3 or the SZ2 and this just confirms I'm on the right track as I decided on the SX3 before seeing this
That's great to hear, you won't be disappointed!
why does is feel like a video right before a new controller comes out. i really doubt a SX4 would be release anytime soon but i some how got that vibe watching this. but i love my SX2
We don't personally think there will be another SX controller now the 1000 range is out
Crossfader i do think Pioneer will come out DDJ-SZ3. Cause they follow series like the SX did 1,2 and 3. I understand some people think XZ replace the SZ series. Just kinda odd if Pioneer stop on SZ2. SX is great controller. I owned a SZ. They are very similar each other.
I have also SX as my standalone controller. Still great controller for me. Cant afford to buy new one now.
Hi Mate. A Great review on this Pioneer DDJ SX. The great news. I picked up a Mint DDJ SX W. It's so good. How do I release the USB Cable on the rear.. I'm OCD. I must have a white cable in there. Please advice. Cheers Steve Dee
The cable should just pull out. None of the cables on the SX are fixed. Be careful if it's tight though and try not to damage the port
Hi Mate. Thank you for your advice. So I gave the cable a hard pull. It come out.. That was the problem. I did not want to damage the port.. Your review on this controller. Was so great. I went out of my way to find a good one. OMG. It's so good. All the Best.. Steve Dee Dj
I still have my SX. I won't upgrade because I find it to be the better interface to edit the beat grid compared to the way it is done on the SX3
back when pioneer actually tried
Great video. Got the SB3 and going to make a upgrade to the SX3 next week. The 1000SRT is still 40% higher price here in Denmark :-(
Good choice! The SX3 is still a fantastic controller!
Still using my ddj sx, hoping to sell it so I could move on to the ddj1000srt
Great controller!
How much would you sell it for?
Can you still use this controller with serato 3.0 ? Thanks for this video
i am using an original SX with the latest SDJ pro 3.0.12 just fine
i found me and everything works with flight case for $350 should i grab it
Nostalgia 👍 great vid Holland, presenting skills coming along nicely 👊
Thanks Mike, appreciate that!
I personaly own a ddj RX because i personally prefer Rekordbox over Serato Dj. Just my opinion
The SX works with Rekordbox
Truly fantastic video. I appreciate this very much. I have the OG SX and love it but I really dislike the computer tethering part...do you know if there is a way to make it work with an iPad Pro?
😍 Looks really pretty in white !
It really is!
My first controller I allways wanted was an sx but I have the sx2 instead it’s awesome tho
I honestly think it was the S4 that was more influential. It was the first native controller that could scratch, could beatmatch, and do all the things CDJs do
The S4 was another brilliant controller for it's time!
dope beats in the beggining
That was informative and really fun to listen to - thank you!! Great video👍🏻 thinking of getting the 1000srt but wondering if I’ll miss the integrated serato FX knobs...
Glad you enjoyed it! The SRT beat effects are brilliant remember!
UP, I have the ddj 200 and someone can sell me he 's DDJ SX W. for 400euros. Worth ?
Actually 6x effects per channel
Nice one CrossFader 👍
Thanks 👍
Hey, I have an almost brand new SX2 believe it or not, what is the best software to use with it? Traktor, VDJ or Serato ?
That is awesome bro cause I wanted a beginner dj that is better than the pioneer ddj 400
Great video as always everyone at Crossfader, keep the great content coming 👍🏻
I’ve had the exact same controller from new, absolutely loved it till the day it started showing a fault with right hand jog wheel, it is unresponsive when I go to touch the top of jog wheel or when I go to scratch!
Crossfader Thanks for that reply 🎧🎧👍🏻
This is the controller I use. Mine is black in color.
question are you selling this item I'm in Jamaica need one like this?
Anyone know if you can get a tiny (ultra-short throw) crossfader replacement for the DDJ-SX? For cutting/scratching?
Great video!
We'd agree that the SX is a fantastic choice, just make sure the controller is fully working. Check the cue buttons, crossfader and upfaders :)
@@leonarddelank4453 yep! i got serato pro to fully utilise and practice! thanks for the reply
@@Crossfader thank you for the reply! you guys always give the best info when it comes to dj equipment :)
@@ActuallySuperMario then you should be all set. 😉
I’m proud owner on pioneer ddj sx2
@moctezumaleon same here 👍
IMO, the Best controller so far, overall, has the same format as this epic SX, + Plus option for DVS + Multi color pads.
I WANT THIS CONTROLLER! GIVE IT TO ME😂
There's no way I'm parting with this controller, it's my baby! haha! 🙌🏻
Fuck me that white colour looks nice
This controller works brilliant with Virtual DJ Pro, serato is not a good program or interface imho
Whay about a DDJ-RX? ) today in 2020.
What*
Very much the same controller, just bundled with Rekordbox instead of Serato!
I have a traktor s4 mrk 3 too me it’s sick as..have I done good??
You forgot that the SX3 has connections for two computers.
Great video
Thank you! 🙌🏻
Buttons are relatevely easy to to replace.
very nice video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much!
nice video🤙🏻
Little correction about the size and the use of plastic for controllers before... The DDJ-SX is actually not a first, there was some big and mainly metal controller before.
The Numark NS6 came one year before and its Traktor counterpart, the 4trak came like 9 months before the DDJ-SX...
Good point about the NS6, completely slipped my mind!
Or the Denon MC3000 and MC6000.
@@kommentelek. I agree for the premium feeling and metal. These were smaller, though.
The NS6, 4Trak, and in a completely other category, the NS7, were as big (or maybe bigger for the NS7) than the DDJ-SX...
