It may be debatable that it is easier to becoming a "DJ" but it is still more admirable & worthwhile to be a DJ with skills, talent and professionalism.
Mixing in phrase is so so important and something I didn't learn right away with online courses. Makes long mix transitions sound so much more natural.
What makes a great dj for me personally is the ability to read the crowds and play the appropriate songs. It's best to play commercial songs and mix it with a bit of underground where people can enjoy it. You got other things but this is what's important for me at least.
@@grssu cannot deny that fact but that's how it is for me though. I assure you I have a lot of tracks which sound even better than commercials. I played 2-3 times a week and the crowds varied from 300> each day. Believe me when I tried going non commercials only a few reacted to it. Only by going commercial can I get all of them to go crazy and drunk. Well every so often I slip in a few undergrounds and they won't notice.

I think all that time spent looking at the board and tweaking out effects is better spent looking at the crowd and their reaction to the music you're choosing.
Thanks a lot for all the tips every time. :) But this time I am wondering why you should put all those Cue Points? If you have to DJ on older equipment you cannot use a Cue Point at all..
Cos you probably are, what hes saying is accurate as far as not being lazy with sorting all the music as it comes in. Im not guilty of much of this but im definitely at fault for that
Imma be honest, all of this seems ok in the right setting except not preparing to certain point. This video feels like a guide to playing commercial mixes. I say let mixes sound disgusting, it´s part of the beauty. Of couse I get that the point of the video is to educate people that actually don´t notice that they are doing this stuff cause the ones that are aware of it are making it sound awkward on purpose. But there is also people that make transitions sound overloaded because that´s what they like and how it sounds and with this video you´re making them think that their mixes are "lazy" while there are DJs world touring out there that like playing with phrases out of sync and overload their transitions. But I guess theres a thing for everyone. While some people might like when DJs don´t give a fuck and play disgustingly on purpose others might like all clean and simple transitions
Good point! Back in the day dissonance and creating tension before the 'release' was a really admired skill in the right hands. I guess this is aimed at DJs who are pretty new and only mix via the Camelot wheel and haven't developed sufficient skills (or their own sense of what is correct and even desirable at certain points in their set). These modern controllers and software have in that sense robbed a lot of personality from the art, instead telling everyone what is the 'right way'(yeah fine if you want to play a seamless set in key that has no tension). Good comment, cheers!
Abandoning the 'rules' occasionally - in DJing as in most aspects of life - is certainly part of the 'art', but when being "disgusting" and "not giving a fuck" become the acceptable norm then beauty and finesse are soon lost to the garbage can
@@OxygeneAirTime I think they coexist. I was just pointing out that what the guy in the video calls lazy is just right to others. no f*ck that, just go crazy with your tracks, having good taste is the most important thing as a DJ. Most commercial stuff just isn't that good. (EDM)

There’s hardly anything left to say about DJ mixes anymore. It feels more important to figure out how to create a hit song.

Another thing I see most lazy dj’s do is just playing the same bangers for last 3 years most aren’t keeping up to date with newer music.
Hay whats a good way or place to buy tracks now days
@ Bandcamp or follow labels that your favorite dj releases under
Most of an audience isn’t update as a Dj. 3 years of back catalogue isn’t that old. It’s songs people will more likely know.

I can’t tell you how many DJs I see that don’t understand the concept of phrasing
This is surprising to me. Lucky for me my dad is a dj and he told me to learn phrase mixing before anything else
Top top top grazie mille 😊
That R3wire mashup is dope, i need that!
👏 Tracks used are from TheMashup.co.uk
Do you have a video on how you organise your playlists, like what kind of organisational framework and process?

This is just an example of where you can set them. 3 cue points is usually enough depending on your mixing style
You have to be on some ancient equipment not to have cue points. And if you are, these lessons apply to the many that aren't
Do you still raffle free controllers?
still a difference between being a "dj" and a dj who actually gets gigs

This applies to all controllers, it’s not specific to any particular controller
