How to Remove a Seized Injector - Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue Panther Engine

- In this video we shall be removing a seized fuel injector on a 2018 Mk8 Ford Transit EcoBlue. The 2.0 Panther engine, as it is designated, suffers from injector failure and unfortunately these injectors also seize in making them especially difficult to remove. Using this special tool from Ford, the injectors can be removed without damage to the injector or the engine.

Great Video, i have question, where we can buy this tool and does injector need programming after change? we have one car 2.0 and ford is not taking responsibility for changing injectors, they asked us to sign contract if they do it and it might need to change whole engine.
Can see that becoming a task like the M9r engines 🥵

Great video👍 do you buy the puller tool from Ford? I look after a few of them new Transits , not had a problem yet , Probably get a stuck injector from hell now I said that lol . It looks rusty as if water collects in the troff, like vauxhall vivaros
Ford version of the Vauxhall Vivaro problem, scuttle pissing water straight onto the gully on the top of the head right where injectors sit.
Hey there. Thank you for the great video. I got a brand new Ford Edge with similar panther engine. I found out some surface rust on the injector rail and gully similar to shown here. I cleaned up the rust and sprayed some CorrosionX (a strong marine grade Corrosion inhibitor that resists salt water and pressure washing). Not sure if this will work to stop water intrusion. Only time will tell. I did check the car a week later and no rust or water is around.
prevention is better than cure, lets hope your injectors are Ok, The car range don't seem to suffer any way near as much as Transit

I work for our local council and maintain the transit fleet. Every ecoblue we have had , has gone back ford under warrenty for the injectors. All of them in some cases.2019 and 2020 some vans not even done 500miles and had to go back in as in limp mode . The state of the injector u pulled , And to have them seize after 2 years is a disgrace. Ford care more about the mighty dollar then build quality Great video .
the are addressing the concern on 2021 builds, they say its corrosion through condensation under the sound proofing and will be modifying and adding extra seals. As for the previous 5 years worth of vehicles, we have to endure that sometimes 13 ton hydraulic tools cannot shift them.....Like you say, poor design
Great video! I’m a massive Ford fan, especially Transits and Mondeo but these new engines are scaring me! I’ve got a mk7 jumbo that’s rotting away but I can’t see me getting a mk8 or newer. Such a shame as I love the brand!

Well thankyou for the good info ..helpful 😊I left my 2018 van 30k at the Ford Service centre 0800 as it was almost impossible to drive , they called 1230 pm told the issue was an injector but should be ok to pick up 4:00 pm alas 2:30 they called “seized in “ NOW having difficulty getting it out won’t be ready today obviously they don’t have a puller lol 😂
Pulled isn't always guaranteed to remove the injector. I've had plenty seized in.

Great video! These Piezo injectors have return lines. Could I do back leak test to confirm a bad injector? Could that test be conclusive?

Hi do you know if that tool would fit over and grab a Delphi injector from a Ford Kuga mk1. The threads broke and I need a puller to grab hold of the injector. Do you think that tool could fit over and grab it. Any information you can give would be great. Thank you
I could not say for certain as the tool is designed for this specific injector

Great video, thanks for posting. Got an M Sport Transit Custom (2017) which keeps triggering a "service required" message when the engine is under load. Had a service so know it's not that (doing it before the service and after). Suspect one or more of the injectors are faulty so this video will be a great help if replacement doesn't go to plan. Thanks. Now just need to find out the procedure for coding the injectors in 🙂

Update after 7k miles. Cleaning up and spraying corrosion X on my Ford Edge practically kept my injectors clean with so signs of rust and hopefully my mechanic will be happy down the line when she doesn’t have to face a seized injector.
Hope you guys with Transit benefit from this idea.
hopefully, you'll not need to have them changed. Seems to me its just the transit that suffers with the seized injectors

What is the likely hood of cracking the rocker cover?
I've not broken one using this tool, however, many injectors require excessive force to remove and damage may occur
I got a cylinder 2 circuit malfunction code.
I'm having real ballache removing it. Can even get it to turn with stiltsons

I've got one showing low rail pressure codes, it will start on easy start but it puts out a lot of heavy diesel smoke and knocks.
It is on a rwd so I'm guessing it is going to end up being a nightmare to get the rear injectors out.

I can confirm these injectors are rubbish having already had the head off a 2017 Transit for 3!!! Seized and blowing. It had already been back to ford once in its warranty to have repairs done. Nice puller I need one of those plus do you know if ford have any modifications for the fact water gets in there. Fantastic video as usual.
you'd have thought by now that they'd address the concern, but to date nothing has been done
Would a bit of graphite grease or high temp brake grease like ceratec applies to the injector body be a good preventive measure to stop the corrosion. Toyota have the same problem with some of their injectors, I have used ceratec in the past and it worked a treat.
@@grantwatkins7402 there is a special grease we use when re-fitting the injectors, seems its not used at production though

Cheap crappy injectors or cheap crappy fuel supplying the injector causing issues ? Used to love my fords and owned plenty of them but current one is my last one, build qaulity has went downhill over the years.

Well designed puller & no doubt cost an arm & a leg but how did you know you weren't exceeding the 250Nm max torque load using a spanner?
£155 plus tax and shipping, i could feel the injector start to move. I was just at the point of getting the torque wrench out when it started to feel slack.

Nice video mate, shame the injector wasn't as tight as some I've done you would have needed a lot longer spanner than that, I've had 20 tonnes hydraulic force on them several times.
Yeah there are some stubborn ones that would destroy that tool

The only thing is that I heard numerous horror stories about this model. On the other side, I have a friend with 3 such models who didn’t have any issue with them! Thank you for all the great work and effort you put in making these videos!
@@andreibadila it wouldn't really be right for me to make a video of the faults. Nice idea as it may be and could well be a popular video. I work on Ford daily and this could prove bad for me
I would advise to check if the timing belt recall is due and any software updates
Do we have a water ingress issue here.... thats a whole lotta rust on a low mileage vehicle.
yes it appears thats the issue, even though the injectors are under a cover and then the air box sits on top.

this engine is also in other vehicles, but so far only the transits seem to seize

What ford upto see that rust and stuck injecters on an engine that's only done 13k. You add that to the blown ecoboost engines and Mondeo racks that fall apart...something wrong at ford for sure.
I broke one straight off once... Quickest fix was to drill it out with the cleaning tool 😂. I don't recommend that fix but the vehicle had to be on the road daily.
Ford now greases the injectors slots on the line 👍

its an insulation tester by megger, you can get far cheaper ones for around £30-40
