Aslong as you know which cylinder is classed as cylinder 1 and which is classed as cylinder 4 then its all very straight forward, its when they count cylinder 1 as the flywheel side that it can catch you out.
hi Rob i did a transit custom poor running checked injector codes in ecu to codes on the injector all different reset the ecu to match injectors it run like a bucket of crap let it do auto pilot learn the codes went back to what they was. ended up having the injectors rebuilt had all four done for the cost of the price of a new ONEi .then done a auto pilot learn for the van to set its self to the best code. what a difference that made to the performance
Compensation codes. Engineering tolerances. No 2 injectors are exactly the same. For fuel efficiency and smoother running, the ECU has to be adjusted fractionally to inject on point. By evening out and regulating the injectors. This would be measured at the factory where the injectors were made, and stamped on the injector.
So my brothers van had a injector go down and we replaced it. But the van just seems to have a lack of go. We didnt programme it in. Is this why? Its a 2007 ford transit. Great vid by the way.

In simple terms injectors vary from injector to injector (assume good here, faulty is totally different). This difference could be micro amounts of fuel delivered for a given injection duration. The purpose of programming the injectors is so that the ecu can compensate if necessary for the injector fitted. So if an injector sprayed more than optimal for a given duration, the ecu would adjust the duration the injector sprayed for to make it optimal. Even if not programmed though the engine should still run and you wouldn't notice any different.
It's actually for calibration. Each injector has to precisely deliver the right amount of fuel that the ECU expects it to or otherwise the engine running could be affected. (Most likely the emissions would be out, it'll still mostly run ok, but hey). The code tells the ECU what actual value the injector delivered when tested at manufacture.
That autel is such a nice looking piece of kit. What model is it? Do you have and links where you can make a bit back if i buy one? Not bothered about a discount, but it would be great if you lads could get something out of it.

"Into the diagnostic machine; that just turns it'self off randomly" Funny you should say that. I work with Autel (Sevadis) fitting and fixing their EV Chargers, they also have a habit of turning them self off with no good reason
Nice info. You don't actually have to program them to work, however for optimal running it is best to do so. For people who don't have expensive diagnostic machines, there is software called fsuper which can be had for little money (get the obd adapter with it) that allows you to do Ford coding 👍

Didn't really understand the point of this video. When the new injectors were first fitted presumably there is an enter coding screen, an alpha-numeric keypad, and a "write to ECU" option. This is what I expected to see but didn't.
I was in IT for 40 years, glad to get out, seems like mechanics need a degree in IT, problem is you have two types of mechanic's now; Chris, old school and Rob, a bit more progressive!
Did you see the video with the Hybrid that Rob and Chris had to get someone to diagnose / fix? That was more IT and electronics than mechanical stuff for sure ! Amazing video to watch to show the differences between "normal" and electric (or Hybrid) cars.

@@jlau4083Its not the method of manufacture, it’s the tolerances when they are made. Nothing is exact anywhere, ever…To understand engineering tolerances i suggest you Google it and you’ll find a whole new world to explore.
Cant believe the faff you have to do to a modern engine, and does it add up to more reliability/fuel economy. injectors are not always reliable and costly to replace i often wonder how we drove a car or van without all this, because we did. mind you we were not as tight on emissions as we are now but i do wonder what an engine bay full of electronics does to a wallet.
