  • Building a cinema professional rig for the Canon M50 should be cheap. It's a great for vlogs but can also be used for semi pro work...if you rig it right.
    After seeing some funny, odd and poorly built rigs in my recommended videos, I decided to show mine.
    The rigs I saw were poorly executed and would have people spending unnecessary money on a beginner camera that can't possibly benefit from the additions...they would only APPEAR expensive.
    this is a rig that can be constructed or torn down with no tools for quick adaptation depending on scenario.

    First video of yours I have seen and I’m now a subscriber. I have watched hundreds of videos on rigs for the M50 (All from across the pond), and this is the first truly reasonable and realistic rig for this body. I will be using this video to create my shopping list 👍
    Also fantastic to see another Brit, especially one doing a brilliant job.
    Cheers 👍

      Ahhh bro, thank you soooo much, I really appreciate your kind words.
      Yes I too watched a lot of videos when I got my first mirror less Inc my M50 and felt let down.
      I look back at some of my older rigs which I got tips from TH-cam and realise how disproportionate they look.
      Then people are using items which you know for a fact are for their bigger cinema rigs and they wouldn't use an M50 that way.
      Thanks again for the sub 🙌🏾

    Absolutely fantastic content, incredibly helpful! A few questions: 1. Could you not just plug the dummy battery dc cable directly into the monitor? So you could draw power from the monitor battery instead of having two batteries on the rig? 2. In other videos you're using power banks, how come you chose an npf mount in this one? FINALLY 3. I have the EOS M, would I have to mod this cage slightly for this rig to work on it? REALLY appreciate your help. Thank you very much.
    AJ

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Aj, I think we've spoken already but I'll answer just in case.
      You could use a cable from the monitor but my monitor is power input only.
      You can use an M50 cage on the m without any mods.
      I just found using npf better because they're smaller. I think the power bank option is still valid if you're on a tripod all day but this is more run n gun.

    Great video! I was looking for something like this for my business so my wife can use. I know this sounds dumb but, I am getting an Canon EOS R6 which is obviously better for video than the M50, BUT I’m using it only for photos when I shoot weddings because of its amazing capability to shoot in low light conditions being able to shoot at high iso without grain THEREFORE I’m gonna be having my wife do video with the Canon M50 and this setup is perfect for her, which is another reason why I LOVE the M50 because of its size and weight and it’s perfect for her little hands lol. Thank you bro!

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey brother. That doesn't sound stupid at all. It's best to get something you're happy with and even though you may not be focused on video...it's always best to be prepared.
      I agree with you that the M50 is a great all-rounder and can do a lot for normal vlogging to wedding shots if you pair it with a quality lens.
      I'm glad this video helped😁 it's a small neat package that looks good, can have you running for long shoots and won't break the bank.

    Im in the market for an M50 and was looking to customise a rig for it for outdoor on the move filming, this is awesome! What lens would you recommend for indoor studio vlogging and outdoor filming?

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool man, M50 is a great all round camera. I guess the lens depends on the budget.
      Another factor is how much room do you have in your recording space.
      Normally I wouldn't recommend efs lenses but for outside daytime the 10-18efs is fantastic. It's sharp, wide and has image stabilisation. Bit dark at f3.5 but great for day or if you invest in lights.
      Also get a 50mm STM if you have room in your home. At 1.8 it's fast, can give a high end look and it's cheap. No stabilisation but great on a tripod.
      You may have noticed I'm talking EF & ef-s lenses so you'll need an adaptor. Personally I'm not a fan of m series lenses. They are expensive, ok in quality but can't be used on any other camera.
      If you go native and you have the cash, look at the sigma line of ef-m lenses... gorgeous.

    • @stephenNI
      @stephenNI 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Altcine Thanks so much dude, ive checked out Cruisn Canadas review on the 10-18 efs and wow you were totally on the money, it looks amazing in daylight and exactly what im after. Whats the best way to keep the camera steady whilst moving about outside, do you think i would need anything to assist with that?
      The room we will be using is just over 148sq feet.

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's a great lens. I used it on a trip to Switzerland and fov was nice on a crop sensor.
      Keeping steady is practice and a stabilised lens. Also helps if you add weight to the camera such as a cage and put a strap round your neck.
      Walking may still be jerky so only a gimbal can really help. But saying that you may want to keep it light so just the camera, adapter, lens and practice.

    I have a question. Smallrig has a batteryplate for npf batteries available. I think it´s the model nr.: 2504, it has a 7.4 V output. Would it be possible, to power my m50 with this batteryplate? thx for help.

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny enough it's the 7.4 volts I've been using all these years. Mine didn't come with any stickers...I think it was a knock-off so just believed what the listing said.
      It's only when I plugged it into my bmpcc4k that I realised it was 7.4 volts and not enough power for bmpcc4k.
      On my eos-m, M50, bmpcc etc 7.4 volts worrked fine and I used it for years.

    You haven't had any problems with big lenses and the connection between camera and rig? I know the recommendation is as soon as you use the adapter, you should use the threads in that, since the ones in the camera arent as stable.

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes NATO is definitely the best but the nato rail is on the right side where you already have a handle.
      I think it's a waste to have 2 handles on the same side...don't you think?
      Ps, I did say and link the handle you can fasten by hand.

      @@MrStLime yes I agree and exactly why I stripped mine down.
      The mah you stated is 3 X the normal battery size so if your screen brightness is 50% then I reckon you're good for more than 3 hours. In real world use that'll probably be a couple days if you're recording short clips here and there.
