      Can you do a video on how much zoom lens should one get. I have thought abt 24-105 mm, and 55- 210 mm. How much zoom is enough? I am a beginner and may be will buy a M50.

    Helpful video my friend. I just bought a M50. I decided to go with the 11-22 lens for wide shots and the nifty fifty with adaptor for portraits and closer shots to start out.

    I ordered my Smallrig for my Canon RP on Monday, it was shipped Wednesday, and it arrived today. That’s fast delivery straight from China. It fits perfectly and I did not have to remove my lens. The battery compartment door opens without issues. The flip screen has no issue but with the tripod quick release plate mounted on the left side it gets in the way a little bit. With the quick release plate on the left side it becomes another good finger grip for my left hand. I keep two release plates on the cage, one on the bottom and one on the left side, all this adds weight. The weight is not an issue for me. I am very happy with my Smallrig cage.

    I just subscribed! I think you are great! I just broke my 80D and have gone back to my M50...today I filmed A rolls and every time I went to take out my memory card to check the footage I had to unscrew it from my tripod...my Lord...what a terrible design...is there anything you can think of that I can buy that would allow me to open that memory card door without unscrewing it from my tripod? Thank you in advance! Susan PS: ou think I should go for another 80D? What would you buy?

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if there is anything. I have the same issue with some of my cameras. Those that have the SD card on the side are much better.. But dont get an 80D .. At least get the 90D. Has much better everything! And really depends on your budget. I ended up upgrading most of my cameras to go mirrorless. So i personally mostly now use a Canon R and an R6.

    Recently purchased the M50 with the kit lens and added the EF-M 22 f2 prime lens to it. Loving this camera so far! I have made one video with it and the quality was fantastic especially with the Deity D3 mic on top of it! Definitely nice to have a Canadian point of view so that when prices are given it can be in CAD. :) Would love to get a bit more understanding about how one is meant to understand what different focal lengths translate to in real world distances. For example, if I want to focus on something that is 1 meter away, is there a certain aperture setting and lens mm setting that there's a mathematical formula to use to know what would be needed? Or is it trial and error and then you start to memorize these things? Brand new subscriber here and I'm looking forward to binging more of your videos!

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      much appreciate the Sub! And really in regards to distance and lenses being able to focus it really comes down to the lens. If have lenses that are almost identical in focal length and their ability to focus (distance-wise) is different. I really don't know the answer completely but I really think it has to do with how the lens is constructed. So lenses even have modes on them that allow them to focus closer. How they do that I'm not sure. But great question!

    I would rather have teh EF-M 11-22mm due to portability instead of the EFS 10-18, yes I'm going to loose 1mm, but the size of the lens compensates for that, way easier to carry it around. I currently only have the Kit lens 15-45 and the 55-200, for next year I already set apart in the budget for the 11-22 to get a ton of range in 3 pieces 11 all the way to 200mm.

    I recently received my new updated digital camera the Canon RP and a 3rd party battery grip which I don’t really like. The battery grip On/Off button does not work, it prevents access to the memory card, and it has a annoying cable from grip to camera body. Concerned about removing the grip often enough just to get access to the memory card will lead to wearing and tearing. The next time I remove this grip is to permanently remove it. Just ordered a Smallrig cage that I believe is more beneficial to what I do with the camera. Now all I gotta do is wait for the cage.

    • @gregtoope

      it may but you would get severe vignetting on the image. I only use EF lenses with my speed booster. pretty sure some ef-s mounted lenses by Sigma work, but not sure about the actual canon lenses

    In my opinion, canon ef-m 11-22mm better than efs 10-18mm for vlogging. 22mm f2 is also good for stationary shooting at home.

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      but if you ever move to a R series camera the lens is useless. Buying a lens that works on all Canon cameras just makes more financial sense. Plus its future proofing.

    Great video. I use the M50 for my newly released whisky review channel and i was wondering if there is anything out there that allows me to mount the camera and also access the battery. The cage you showed is great but i wanted to confirm weather the bottom of the cage has holes that allow me to add the mounting plate, plus access the battery and card slot. Is it possible???🙄

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My camera is mounted to a tripod 90% of the time and i have access to the battery and SD card without having to remove the camera from the tripod. Now if you have a highend tripod the plate may be wider to compensate for larger cameras but i have no issue.

      Speed boosters already convert EF to M so you don't need (actually can't) use an additional adapter.

  • @SharonKlinkenberg

    Does your viltrox make the autofocus of the EF lenses louder than when the same EF in on the eos RP? For me the EF canon 24mm and 35mm are insanely loud.

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I cant see why it would have any effect on the volume of the Autofocus. The autofocus motor shouldn't be able to just get louder when attached to a different camera/mount. Can't even see how that could be possible.

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it is not amazing at low light. Its ok. I have 3 other cameras that will easily outperform the M50 when equipped with the same glass. The APS-C sensor is just not great for low light photography. Now if you want to put it on a tripod and do long exposure, then any camera is gonna be good. But thats not how one measures how good a camera is in low light. Ive shot the M50 with the exact same setting as my Canon RP and the RP had much less noise. And the difference will get even greater if you put it up against an R or R6.
