For someone who loved old school assassins creed and adores Skyrim, got this game as a gift for Christmas and have started it up completely blind - didn’t realise how awesome combat can get 😳
I played it thinking it was gonna be just as bad as oddesey very repetitive and just boring but nah so far the combat is so cool and brutal and I’ve spent majority of the time exploring and haven’t even gotten bored
@@dontstarvenick8838 i had the dlcs except for the 2 ep of atlantis those 2 were shit especially the elysium one that shit had me spend over 10 hours to finish then the one in hell that shit was confusing and atlantis was cool but it wasnt that good. i liked the lagacy of the first blade. other than that the atlantis dlc were trash
@@FrostInFreezer Yeah...no. Viking armies were mainly made up of men wielding shields and spears, because they're literally, bar none, the most effective battlefield weapon. Easy to use, keeps the enemy at a distance, difficult to counter. They were essentially perfect. A guy who's good with a sword loses to a guy who's good with a spear 99% of the time
@V. V. V - I like the combat they should have just made it a little smoother with finishers instead of the unnatural animation breaks. But odyssey was on to something idc what anyone says💯

But the vibrancy and things to do were just on point being the plot was Greece and the assassinations in odyssey with the spear were on point. If only they had more gore with it, it would have made it even more better.
Nah man. Use the draugr hammer (I forgot the name) and fafnir fang, u can dodge with brush with death and it does hella damage and had a high chance of poisoning people. Plus if u have spear in the off hand then u can parry. Use mentors armor
Also if u are having trouble hitting a kid if they are blocking or are really fast then use mans best friend and just spam stomp while they’re in the floor. I killed Loki with that strat at level 115 while the suggested was 190
Already completed the game and i switched between 3 builds: Dual wield axes with berserker armor, Axe and shield with raven clan armor and dual daggers with magister set, tons of fun
My current favorite playstyle is just to go unarmed. Once you get to a high level and get used to the combat system you just cut through enemies. So going unarmed is fun and takes longer to take down enemies. But the best part is just dropkicking enemies.
I'm swapping weapons, armor and runes frequently but right now I'm using Thegn Armor, Excalibur and that Poisoncloud shield (Isu shield) runes to ignite the weapon and poisoncloud on heavy combo finisher. So effective I basically only have to kill 1 guy in an army
@@earthbrother4549 Well, it blinds when doing a heavy combo finisher (2-4 light attacks, then a heavy attack) And when you crit. The Thegn Armor gives a Crit-chance bonus when you parry. And if you use that shield and rune you have a giant incentive to parry. (Against strong enemy's a last second dodge with the skill followed up by a 3attack combo works well) I would say use a "Crit's/Parry's poison your weapon" rune instead of igniting. Works better in unity, but I sadly don't have such a rune yet. But it still works extremely well.
@@earthbrother4549 The blinding stops every enemy from moving/attacking/defending in a small radius. (Really small, but if it was bigger it would be OP) Meaning you can essentially do 2 light and one heavy attack and then repeat without even having a chance to get hit by anyone. I don't know. From what I've seen it just gives a constant 10.0 bonus to critchance until you hit someone on the ground or from the back
I duel wield daggers with the Mentor’s set with a lot of health and armor runes mixed with crit and headshot runes on bow and +assassination damage. It’s op. I forgot the name of the daggers but I know one of them came from a hidden ones bureau. Harpoon has to be one of(if not) the most powerful ability in the game and the slow-mo range ability with the bow. You can beat anything in the game and I’m not even maxed yet (I’m level 320+ tho)
@@chilliam00 I had a stealth mage (silent spells, invisibility etc)...yeah sniping fireballs was cool Or launching an atronach to keep the foes busy then you hide and summon a bow (oh wait...)
My favorite is Mjolnir and the Kopis with the Mentors set with the combination of the Death-Skald. The build you assassinate the first one to two enemies and the rest taking down the rest using Mjolnir and using the Kopis in the left hand in case your health gets low you can use it to try to recover health fast. And then if any far away enemies like the Bowman and Cross-Bowman use the Death skald to get rid of them first then rush in to battle.
Dual daggers with a focus on light bows. Use fire to explode everywhere with a bow, then relentlessly dodge and stab from behind. Heavy emphasis on assassination perks, mix of Magister and Hidden Ones armors. First build I did on my own
I will be picking it up on sale for sure, cyberpunk comes out soon and I’m still playing Skyrim 😜 🙃 ❤️. Valhalla reminds me of Skyrim too. Thanks fudgemuppet.
@@Umberloid87 Use the Charged Shot Skill with the Hunter Bow and go for Headshots. Depending on how much your Bow is leveled 2-4 Shots and the highest level 340 Zealot drops dead

I have a personal playstyle that involves dual waielding greatswords and dogdging and just burning everyone with the melee fire skill and explosive bow skill. Sets i use are 2 pc berserker and 2 pc brigandine, with any choice for the 5th pc

Later one I use dual-spears for a poison/crit build against bosses. SKILLS: Focused mostly on survivability and a utility skill from the Wolf Tree (Last Chance Healing, Grit, Battlefield Bolt and Sprint Attack) at first and then dipped in Bear for Stomp which works really well with Battlefield Bolt as it will knock foes it doesn't one-shot to the ground. Missile Reversal is an important one to get as early as possible as well imo. After that I focused mainly on Adrenaline. The offhand attack with the hammer also knocks enemies prone and you can follow-up with some additional ground and pound smashes by continuously pressing offhand attack (which burns stamina) and finish them off with a Stomp. Axe is mainly just flavor, I enjoying landing a heavy axe attack from behind which decapitates weak foes. MELEE ABILITIES: TAF, DotV, Harpoon and Poison Strike BOW ABILITIES: MoD, FotN, Wolf and RPS.
I got dual swap and dual two handed as soon as I could and it’s so fun mixing tons of weapons and switching hands often, it makes it feel like you have 50 moves in your move set. My favorite ones so far are flail and Dane axe, shield and unarmed (captain America), Dane axe and spear
@Hamish Crowther i still use the starter bow (hunnish bow) bcos hunter bows are really good and its really strong and ive heard the spartan bow from the ubisoft club thing is really good although its a light bow and finally im pretty sure that the hunter bow you get feom the merchant is strong aswell
I make it a rule not to use the spears when I play and I am so glad I did. I know it makes the game completely trivial even on the highest difficulties. I roll with double hammers right now after doing a hammer/beard axe combo for a while and it’s a lot of fun. So satisfying swinging those around.
I mostly play assassin with the hidden blade and the needler predator bow, and daggers as my weapon in combat. I like close range stuff, and when I get caught I stab in every directions. I swear by a double dagger build, I've gotten very good at getting close to bosses and doing massive damage. I can't stand 2h weapons, theyre a little better when you have the skill to hold 2, but I dont like how slow it is. I rank daggers as best, bearded axes as second, hammers as third, and short swords as fourth. The double daggers rule because the light attack uses both daggers constantly. I love that you literally described my assassin build, I made it on my own based on what I like. I'm just looking for some new armor to get better protection, I have the Iberian armor now.
dev needs to add a tailsman that has one diamond rune & two regular rune slots cuz any1 gear is just lacking on rune slots to get the build u rlly wont...& give the tailsmans a perk of its owm...was rlly hopin the new divine gear would of unlocked one extra rune slot for each piece of gear...but it nvr did...
I have a great dual sword build -I use Scurtr sword & Excalibur -Drengir armor with Brigadine rune I get speed bonuses from the armor & the rune also attack -I have the poison ability to get the poison cloud from the bow & the fire melee ability to get the +40% attack from the scurtr sword & use poison & fire at the same time! -diamond rune for the three weapons is crit damage, speed & attack goes up per hit up to 10x -I put +1.7 speed on both swords & shaved 9 pounds off my armor with -1.5 weight & those swords are swinging super fast with plenty of stamina cuz I made myself much lighter So basically speed & attack bonuses galore, the use of poison & fire at the same time, two swords that feel like 1 handed swords very fast with plenty of range & lots of hitting power with brutal animations(my fav so far), no stamina issues even though I'm using two heavy weapons it's dope just though I'd share
well if u use em on ur loadouts...i noticed once u change loadouts....it locks em out where its like starting from scratch & grinding river raids all 0ver again...soooo make sure u dont clear out all ur save files cuz its a glitch u dont wanna have to grind to unlock loadouts all over again...im glad i caught that cuz i clear save files & start new save files...guess another bug Ubisoft has to fix once more...
my first time thru i stuck to spear and sheild. im tempted to make a new save and play through doing one of a few challenges like "Naked and brave" (No gear and only a bow for utility like breaking pesky ladder holds) "knife and plank" (Naked and brave but with an added seax and light shield, parry the world) "No upgrades" (Dont upgrade. the appearance ones are... i dont count those but i try to avoid them.) "SL 1" (like the famed Soul level 1 run from darksouls, dont level up. no perks or talents.) and a few other personal challenges like "parries only" and other things. i played the whole game on very hard and i felt waaaay to strong for the whole game. only fenrir gave me trouble because i fought him at lvl 90.
I found spear and shield to be pretty beastly, but for ridiculous amounts of killing..somehow daggers came out on top for me. They stunlock enemies with damage. When hit enemies get stumbled slightly, and daggers hit so fast when dual wielded that they just cant be stopped 1v1. Once you're at higher levels you just stop taking damage, so any of the items or skills for "low health" are basically useless.
The Tank Build, no dual wield allowed, and can never Dodge to counter, only Parry to counter. you can dodge while at a distance to avoid boss abilities, but you rely 95% on parry to counter with your flail or weapon of choice.
I’ve been dual wielding with Odin’s spear and Cadfish spear for most of the game. The range on both weapons is insane. Cant say I’ve exploited the poison gas as much as they did here but it’s an element I might like to add in. Good video with clear concepts. I like it 👍
I killed cordelia with a spear build. I used draugr armor because it was the best wolf armor I had. She was lvl 340. I was about 125. Not much difficulty.
Being I’m max lvl, the “character build” is weapons and armor plus whatever good runes you have. IMO the ability tree, weapons, armor, and runes ends up feeling shallow. Runes being either awesome (atk, crit, etc.) or pointless. Seriously who is stacking feather runes and why do I have 5 in my inventory?
I was playing a charged shot build on high difficulty. To me its just not a very fun playstyle. Charged shot is way to op! Flail (or axe) and shield w/light bow is my favorite.
I just went into this game totally blind about a month ago. This video has lots of great ideas, not to mention everyone in the comments section. Can't wait to start experimenting with a bunch of these.
Autosave system is bugged, it has deleted over 4 hours of gameplay twice for me. (Just forgetting that it autosaved a dozen times.) I used two types of shields and hunter bow in my playstyle.
Tbh hammer and spear is the best combo, hammer does the best close range and for far targets left hand spear. And late game you get molnir and gungir, so it really makes you feel like a God.
Unfortunately this game is too dang long for me to bother doing multiple play through and the story isn’t worth multiple play throughs either, I suggest people find one build they really like and stick with it for the long haul.
I like doing a little bit of all it. When I go into a stronghold I like to sneak in, take out a few in silence, take out some tower archers with a headshot and then announce my presence and go crazy on whomever is left. But this always tends to leave me lacking in damage because I'm not specialized.
I use these for my build... Brigandine armour Brigandine cloak mentors mask, trousers and gauntlets. Main hand I use either fafnirs fang or fyrd spear and off hand I use suttungers claw. This helps with dodging and damage. The dagger in the off hand is really helpful if u need to fill adrenaline during a battle
mine is the one of crits+parrying wrapperd around thegn armor,especially loving to wield a viper bow and briton shield to it for the first playstyle i would rather go with fafnir´s fang spear for its bonus to crit chance when surrounded,tho if you can find a rune replicating a perk of one or the other...like i found a rune replicating the perk of kopis dagger healing on crits,which i placed to briton shield so wielding it i have a chance to heal on parry and heals on crits by using just one piece (and could have ditched the dagger for it small range forcing me to take extra step or two after an oponent recieves parry damage which pushes him off dagger´s reach).also maybe its just a visual bug,but when a weapon ignites with a similar perk as the poison variant presented in this build have,it also caught in fire my second weapon or the shield even.
I used plain greatsword and light shield and heavy bear focused brigandine armor. At midgame it was even cooler since i got myself Excalibur which is super cool.

I've been rocking stealth/fighting build. Double assassination with heavy enemy assassination, along side the trees leading into stomp, adrenaline boost, and I'm ending in two-handed duel wielding. Yngling Seax OP you can just shank the absolute shit out of someone
I’ve been using the mentor and Thegn sets together for a nice crit build, I use the mentors cloak, robes and mask, and the Thegn’s bracers and breeches, crit based weapons help a lot too for the build Edit: I’d suggest the Yule festival dagger and suttungers claw for the weapons, they attack fast and the perks are good for criting

Historically the spear/pike was the weopon most used by the vikings, in combination with a shield. The same goes for most civilisations at the time.
Top Hat Walrus For long range attacks, yes, but vikings mostly used a combination of swords or axes with shields in combat.

Varin’s Axe and Housecarl Axe are a great combo attack damage and speed keep getting buffed. Could go good with berserker
What I used for the first like 8 hours of the game until I could dual wield heavy weapons lol. Great combo

I go with the berserker play style with a Greatsword cause I haven’t gotten a Dane Axe that’s Bear clan based

Everyone's build in Skyrim. No matter what build you do, you'll end up becoming a Stealth Archer. This is the way.

My play style is stun I use Thor’s hammer and Briton shield for great parries that heal you and Thor’s hammer does a radius stun effect

dev needs to add a tailsman that has one diamond rune & two regular rune slots cuz any1 gear is just lacking on rune slots to get the build u rlly wont...& give the tailsmans a perk of its owm...was rlly hopin the new divine gear would of unlocked one extra rune slot for each piece of gear...but it nvr did...
I have a great dual sword build
-I use Scurtr sword & Excalibur
-Drengir armor with Brigadine rune I get speed bonuses from the armor & the rune also attack
-I have the poison ability to get the poison cloud from the bow & the fire melee ability to get the +40% attack from the scurtr sword & use poison & fire at the same time!
-diamond rune for the three weapons is crit damage, speed & attack goes up per hit up to 10x
-I put +1.7 speed on both swords & shaved 9 pounds off my armor with -1.5 weight & those swords are swinging super fast with plenty of stamina cuz I made myself much lighter
So basically speed & attack bonuses galore, the use of poison & fire at the same time, two swords that feel like 1 handed swords very fast with plenty of range & lots of hitting power with brutal animations(my fav so far), no stamina issues even though I'm using two heavy weapons it's dope just though I'd share
well if u use em on ur loadouts...i noticed once u change loadouts....it locks em out where its like starting from scratch & grinding river raids all 0ver again...soooo make sure u dont clear out all ur save files cuz its a glitch u dont wanna have to grind to unlock loadouts all over again...im glad i caught that cuz i clear save files & start new save files...guess another bug Ubisoft has to fix once more...
Im useing 2 Daggers the Kopis and that other good one stastyggers both with alot of crit does so much damage is love it😂😂😂
my first time thru i stuck to spear and sheild. im tempted to make a new save and play through doing one of a few challenges like "Naked and brave" (No gear and only a bow for utility like breaking pesky ladder holds) "knife and plank" (Naked and brave but with an added seax and light shield, parry the world) "No upgrades" (Dont upgrade. the appearance ones are... i dont count those but i try to avoid them.) "SL 1" (like the famed Soul level 1 run from darksouls, dont level up. no perks or talents.) and a few other personal challenges like "parries only" and other things. i played the whole game on very hard and i felt waaaay to strong for the whole game. only fenrir gave me trouble because i fought him at lvl 90.
I found spear and shield to be pretty beastly, but for ridiculous amounts of killing..somehow daggers came out on top for me. They stunlock enemies with damage. When hit enemies get stumbled slightly, and daggers hit so fast when dual wielded that they just cant be stopped 1v1.
Once you're at higher levels you just stop taking damage, so any of the items or skills for "low health" are basically useless.
For the viper build I would use gunngir as just an all round amazing weapon
I’ve been running a Dane axe and spear to great effect
The Tank Build, no dual wield allowed, and can never Dodge to counter, only Parry to counter. you can dodge while at a distance to avoid boss abilities, but you rely 95% on parry to counter with your flail or weapon of choice.
I’ve been dual wielding with Odin’s spear and Cadfish spear for most of the game. The range on both weapons is insane. Cant say I’ve exploited the poison gas as much as they did here but it’s an element I might like to add in. Good video with clear concepts. I like it 👍

I killed cordelia with a spear build. I used draugr armor because it was the best wolf armor I had. She was lvl 340. I was about 125. Not much difficulty.
Being I’m max lvl, the “character build” is weapons and armor plus whatever good runes you have. IMO the ability tree, weapons, armor, and runes ends up feeling shallow. Runes being either awesome (atk, crit, etc.) or pointless. Seriously who is stacking feather runes and why do I have 5 in my inventory?
It doesn't matter though because you can easily smash everyone with your fists while wearing just your knickers. E Z

shield and flail. The sheild that makes your speed go up.. you just roll all the enemies

I was playing a charged shot build on high difficulty. To me its just not a very fun playstyle. Charged shot is way to op! Flail (or axe) and shield w/light bow is my favorite.
I'm using drager set with hags bite in main and the hammer in the other. Just got the game tho so I don't have all the perks unlocked yet.

I just went into this game totally blind about a month ago. This video has lots of great ideas, not to mention everyone in the comments section. Can't wait to start experimenting with a bunch of these.
Autosave system is bugged, it has deleted over 4 hours of gameplay twice for me. (Just forgetting that it autosaved a dozen times.)

Tbh hammer and spear is the best combo, hammer does the best close range and for far targets left hand spear.
And late game you get molnir and gungir, so it really makes you feel like a God.
Unfortunately this game is too dang long for me to bother doing multiple play through and the story isn’t worth multiple play throughs either, I suggest people find one build they really like and stick with it for the long haul.
Why do you have to do multiple playthroughs?
My favourite play style is assassin because im playing assassin's creed
I like doing a little bit of all it. When I go into a stronghold I like to sneak in, take out a few in silence, take out some tower archers with a headshot and then announce my presence and go crazy on whomever is left. But this always tends to leave me lacking in damage because I'm not specialized.
I use these for my build...
Brigandine armour Brigandine cloak mentors mask, trousers and gauntlets. Main hand I use either fafnirs fang or fyrd spear and off hand I use suttungers claw. This helps with dodging and damage. The dagger in the off hand is really helpful if u need to fill adrenaline during a battle
mine is the one of crits+parrying wrapperd around thegn armor,especially loving to wield a viper bow and briton shield to it
for the first playstyle i would rather go with fafnir´s fang spear for its bonus to crit chance when surrounded,tho if you can find a rune replicating a perk of one or the other...like i found a rune replicating the perk of kopis dagger healing on crits,which i placed to briton shield so wielding it i have a chance to heal on parry and heals on crits by using just one piece (and could have ditched the dagger for it small range forcing me to take extra step or two after an oponent recieves parry damage which pushes him off dagger´s reach).also maybe its just a visual bug,but when a weapon ignites with a similar perk as the poison variant presented in this build have,it also caught in fire my second weapon or the shield even.
I used plain greatsword and light shield and heavy bear focused brigandine armor. At midgame it was even cooler since i got myself Excalibur which is super cool.

I've been rocking stealth/fighting build. Double assassination with heavy enemy assassination, along side the trees leading into stomp, adrenaline boost, and I'm ending in two-handed duel wielding.

I’ve been using the mentor and Thegn sets together for a nice crit build, I use the mentors cloak, robes and mask, and the Thegn’s bracers and breeches, crit based weapons help a lot too for the build
Edit: I’d suggest the Yule festival dagger and suttungers claw for the weapons, they attack fast and the perks are good for criting
