Love your Dobies. I miss my dobies. Dobies are beautiful loving dogs.
I hope you will get a commission of some sort because I just bought through your link the meat slicer! My chef pro served me well for a few years but when a plastic fitting, crucial to its performance, broke, NO ONE could offer that one and only part!! And Chef pro won’t answer emails or phone calls! Thanks for a great demonstration of making jerky for my dogs and cats!!
You'll love the slicer, we use it a lot and never had any issues with it.
Very nice! Enjoy watching your videos from Kenya!
Thank you 👍
Aww they love it
Hi Pete, I can not thank you enough for the tip, it is going to safe us a lot of $$$$$.
Glad to help
Saw this video yesterday. Today, stopped by grocery and saw boneless skinless chicken breast on sale for 3.99 per lb. Bought two packs to try out. On my way out, decided to go to the pet aisle. Chicken Dog Jerky for dogs was $17.79 for a 1 lb bag. This makes so much sense! Tomorrow we will be doing chicken jerky for my Dobe, Jessie and my Golden Doodle, both rescues. Tks for the idea.
2 questions 1. My Dehydrator only goes up to 160 is that acceptable? Can you choose on the electric meat slicer the amount to cut like can I choose quarter inch or am I eyeballing it
We have been doing this for years, I recommend you slice the chicken frozen in thin strips. Wait for very cold day to this, put your oven on low and let them dehydrate.
I have a Parmchi puppy with a heart murmur. I want a healthy snack and a teething option. How do you store them? Do you have to keep them in the refrigerator. Thank you
We keep the jerky in a paper bag so it can breath at room temperature. We've stored them that way for up to three months with no problems. Also best to feed your dog real meat and a little veggies like peas, sweet potato or beans.
Very good idea Pete. Your dogs are beautiful. We have Molly the Old English Sheepdog and we buy her those bags of chicken breast jerky at Costco for $20, but its only a small bag plus we're up in Ontario, Canada. I raised a bunch of Rhode Island Red meat birds which actually weren't very tender for us, but my wife make some Chicken Adobo or or other chicken meal for Molly and she loves it. That way we control all the junk that's in store bought food. I'd like to do this but first I need that amazing slicer and that amazing dehydrator. Good quick video bud. Cheers, Chad.
Pete - Thank you - I don't have a dehydrator but I do have a freeze dryer - just wondering if I can get similar results by doing about a half chicken cycle in the freeze dryer?
The results would be different. They would come out dry, crumbly and raw looking. You could try putting in the oven at the lowest setting under 200F and see how that comes out.
Beautiful dogs! I think they each need a second treat just to be absolutely sure they love them, lol. Thanks for sharing your journey.
I have fed raw Meats bones and all for years. Turkey, beef , chicken. Also bil jac dog good
How many white babies do you have to help you with the homestead?
Was wondering why you dont have meat birds for jerky…though that must be a pretty difficult process.
Also, when your hens stop laying eggs (or lets say you want to get rid of unwanted roosters etc), do you just let them out of the chicken run and let the hawks and raccoons have ‘em?
I was tempted last night not to close the coop's door ....chickens came late to roost!
That would be great having meat birds for that process, but yeah it would be a lot of extra work right now. When our chickens get too old, we'll probably cull them for our dogs.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading This would probably be a very difficult video to make (culling) but perhaps you can go through the process (after you've done it) and explain the basics etc.
Over processed dog foods like ours is not safe
That chicken hawk at :50 second is looking for a snack
Thanks for the video and information do you have any on beef or any other meats you would cook for your babies? i just subscribed and like the video as well!
Thanks so much! I'm about to make some right now
Agree with you 100% Pete!Preservatives are what makes us sick and our pets! The worst thing you can feed your dog is treats and kibbles and canned dog food
Our little Boston terrier mix is on a raw food diet and I make her treats out of bananas and peanut butter and oats. I want to try making your jerky now! I don’t have a dehydrator but I ll try it in the oven 🐕 thanks!
How long do they last? Stored?
@@allieGirl146 We store them in paper type bags so it can breath and they've lasted over three months with no problems.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading so not refrigeratad?
@@allieGirl146 Correct
Thank you for the recipe.. going to have to make this for my 2 Dobie-girls
I love dobies
Thanks!
Love this video! What are some other ideas for dog treats that are healthy? (Simpler ideas)
Not really sure because we only feed them chicken jerky treats. But if you search online, I'm sure they have plenty of dog biscuit recipes.
