    • @sheri4673
      @sheri4673 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I started making all my treats homemade, both biscuits and dehydrated meats and my cats and dogs love them! It's a fraction of the cost compared to store bought treats that are loaded with garbage - even the premium "organic" biscuits at the best pet boutiques don't compare to what I can make at home. This lady knows what she is talking about, she's definitely giving good instruction!
      So that it doesn't seem like a chore, I motivate myself into the mood to spend hours in the kitchen at a single time, and then make up large batches of treats all at once - and then I'm set with treats for many months. After dehydrating, I wrap them in smaller batches and store them in the freezer (just make sure they're wrapped and sealed properly for long term storage). I take out one week's worth of treats at a time. It is so convenient and soooo much healthier than store bought!

    I'm already going to bake some new treats for Ginger so I might as well add the jerky treat to it, too. She loves those pumpkin/peanut butter cookies!! She doesn't usually like any chicken meat food but I bet she'll go for the chicken jerky!! I also love the idea that I'm making treats for Ginger out of fresh ingredients, preservative-free, no chemical additives -- know what I mean? Thanks for sharing!!

      omg thrilled Gingers getting some.. and for her? lol prob 1 nice big breast would do her a long time. the strips we had? i snap them into two and give to the girls that way. not because im cheap lol ( which i am lol ) but because they get like 3 from me and HA HA HA how many from daddy each day right? lol.. so i just give the wee pinch piece.. daddy give the bigger ones. ( ya.. not spoiled). our girls? hate chicken dinners as well... but go nuts for these. let me know what Ginger thinks.. ( good for cats as well )

      It's also important to remember that we humans are susceptible to contaminating OURSELVES when we handle these treats - especially during dog training sessions where we're outside in a field handing out these treats with no way to wash our hands.
      I saw one recipe that recommends that after the meats have been dehydrated, the treats should be place into a 350 degree F oven for 3 minutes to kill off any bacteria that survived the dehydrating process - again, this is meant to protect us humans.
      I certainly don't permit my dogs to eat what they find on the forest floor, but I've seen them gobble down the scraps of deer and elk carcass lying on the ground in the mountains where we live - rancid looking, fur still on - disgusting scraps that remain from a mountain lion kill that look like they'd been lying there for months.
      Countless times I have had to wrestle my girl to get her to drop bones covered in decaying meat, and once a dead field rat that she absolutely fell in love with and was carrying around and brought into the house as if it were one of her beloved stuffed "lovey" toys - it's never resulted in illness - now, the flatulence that follows one of those found treats nearly KILLED ME a few times - but, it's amazing what dogs can eat without getting sick!

    Ive heard store bought dried chicken treats are not good for dogs
    Because of the stuff they put on for persatives
    Or because the meat was not in good condition rotting or had salmonella
    Probably didn't get them hot enough
    Dehydrating meat heat needs to be more but still not hot enough to cook
    So we need to use common sense with chicken

      it's scary.. really scary .. we EXPECT the companies that provide pet food and snacks to be thinking of long term health.. THEY DO NOT.. MOST ARE NOT HEALTHY CHOICES.. oh it'll dry it.. lol... cats love these snacks as well. when we dehydrate? im looking for retaining nutrition. doing so on incorrect heats? can rob your foods of vitamins and such.. but we don't always seek that.. depending on what we're doing right? if you can get the wood stove to work for a snack? go for it. still better then anything you can buy commercially right?
