Agreed. Natural salt and sugars come already in the food you choose to feed. Maybe it’s not in your chicken so you should add fruits for sugars or something …. I must buy a dehydrator. Thank you so much for sharing this. I have been buying these 8 pieces for $11. What am l going to do with the savings. Best wishes from Brisbane. 🐾❤️🐾
Thank you for this! I have three FURRBABIES .. 2yr old.. 4 month old and 2 month old and I want to make them healthy treats .. and also for my grandbabies as well
For those of you who have trouble or feel uneasy about thinly slicing the chicken, you can purchase a steel mesh glove to avoid cutting yourself. Or, like she explains here, have your butcher slice them for you or purchase the meat already thinly sliced
Also if you put your chicken breast in the freezer for a few hours allowing it to partially freeze it's like slicing through butter , you'll know by touch if its frozen just enough to slice through with ease, you'll get super thin slices & don't forget to fully thaw before dehydration .
This is the perfect vidoe I have been looking for to make these, thank you very much for posting it. One question though, what temperature do you have your machine on?
I have one where I can adjust the temperature maually to what ever I desire. Thanky ou for responding. I am going to be making these for both myself and my dog ;)
I'm definitely going to try this, a friend of ours sent us some pictures through messenger of him dehydrating chicken gizzards, livers and hearts. They might like that also. I'm going to experiment with some other seasonings as well, just simple things. Another thing we noticed about all three of our dogs is that they love original style Mingua beef jerky, it is marinated in soy sauce, brown sugar and liquid smoke. The teriyaki style ingredients are a bit more complicated although the main ingredients in it is teriyaki sauce and molasses. I just think it will be interesting to experiment with different rubs and marinades to hopefully find the magic potion. 😊
I had the same question. My dehydrator is older and you can roll the dial to different heat settings. The one she showed from Amazon says it has a preset temperature of 165 degrees. That seems kind of low. So maybe we could get away with less time at a higher temperature. I do my human jerky that way.
@@moodyblewis5881 Hi Moody! Yes, that's an option. 165 is just fine, and after running for a day or two, the jerky comes out excellent! It's perfect because the meat cooks slowly and steadily, preventing it from drying out. If you go too hot, it will dry out quickly. Have fun!
@@BecomeInspired Thanks! I have to spell the word TREAT around here LOL. Can't wait to make this for my girl. She is tiny, but has razor sharp teeth. Only problem is, she surfs through treats like this faster than I can make them! Is there a way I can make them more chewy or dense so it takes her longer to chew....without compromising the safety....being that it is chicken. ???
@@moodyblewis5881 Trust me, I can't say anything that even starts with the letter "T!" If you want to go for chewier, I'd do slightly thicker slices. 165 is fine, but make sure it cooks for at least 24 hours.
This was my personal decision, you don’t have to do exactly as I do. I don’t buy traditional dog food, which has salt like minerals added. So I personally add my own because salts are necessary for brain function in a matter what kind of animal or human you are. They’re naturally found in dirt, and dogs eat food in the dirt. Always consult your vet before making any dietary changes for your pets
I have an Excaliber dehydrator and do this professionally, you absolutely don’t need salt and sugar lol How is that more healthy? Just time 12-22 hours of time depending on the meat , thinly sliced meat or fish with little to no fat on it. Can last up to 3 months in a airtight class jar stored at room temperature or in the freezer or refrigerator. If you air tight seal it for storage in Mylar bags that works too just keep it in a cool dark and dry location.
I make sure to dehydrate them well so that there's no water. If there's no water in the meat, mold won't form. Make sure to dehydrate for at least 24-48 hours.
This is nice, I need to buy a dehydrator. As of now I slice my dogs chicken the same way you did only I put them on drying racks in the oven starting at 350°, then gradually decrease temp all the way down to 170°. Then I flip them and I leave them on 170° for about 1.5hrs so they get chewy. The whole process takes about 3.5hrs. I would use a dehydrator but found out I can make a lot more in the oven and with less time. Do they make bigger dehydrators?
I'm studying how to make this, I want to make it for my dogs. I'm also planning to make a small business by making and selling it to other dog lovers 🥰
I would like to make some that is more like a tough rawhide or something so they can chew on it longer. Is there a recipe for this or is it a matter of making thicker slices ?
Thicker slices will last longer for them to chew on, and using rawhide in a dehydrator will work too! I primarily use the dehydrator to make the fun treats I reward the pups with, but you can also make chewtoys that last longer with it :)
Hi; I want to do this but would rather the finished product come out thicker and less crunchy. Wouln't a 1/4" cut work just as well and maybe don't cook them so long? Thanks
Yes you can! You're going to have to experiment with different thicknesses and dehydration times, but you can definitely get that kind of result if you do it right. I remember experimenting a long time ago and achieving a similar result with a thicker and less crunchy texture.
You are right and I'll keep at it. Just for fun, i had a little salmon in the freezer that i was able to dry and she seems to like it very much. i store it airtight in the frig. Your name suit you = i do feel inspired :)
@@BecomeInspired So far I've dried two batches of 4 boneless chicken breasts and she love them much more than those store-bought jerkys! Each batch only takes 6 hours to dry! BTW, I found a brand new dehydrator at a flea market for five bucks! It has a fan and temp control, two fruit trays and two trays for herbs. I'm using the mesh herb trays for the jerky and there is no sticking. This is now our new thing! Thanks again. You have unsurpassable worth!
@@KingdomUploader That is an incredibly kind comment Kevin, thank you! Please share my videos on face book or any other platform you use. I'd love more people to enjoy them, just as you have!
Hi Lien, thanks for watching! These will turn out just wonderfully without them. Just so you are aware, dogs naturally need sodium as part of an electrolyte balance, so small amounts of salt aren't bad for your dog. Like most living things, dogs need salt to help balance fluids and keep nerves functioning properly. I don't feed them conventional dog food often, so they're missing out on sodium unless I add it.
Here's one that won't break the bank: The Best Dehydrator: amzn.to/34Kjn79 I set mine to 165 and let it run. I'm not sure what kind of results an oven will get you, but give it a shot and let me know!
I don't remember salt being unhealthy, but a critical part of the sodium potassium pump for mammals. Sugar is extremely light, just for taste, and unnecessary.
For easier slicing, put the breasts in the freezer, maybe 45 minutes or so, just to get them stiffer making them easier to slice. Also keeping the temperature at 115 degrees or below will keep the necessary good gut bacteria alive.
Next time I get paid I might get this my dog goes insane over these treats he acts like chicken jerky is all he can eat. I’ve got other treats forget about it if it’s not chicken jerky he refuses to eat them. Thank u for the video.
LOL mine too! If you check the description of my video, I linked an affordable dehydrator that I think is outstanding for the price and won’t break the bank! It’s amzn.to/34Kjn79
I have it set on high. Because the slices are so thin, the "high" setting is sufficient to reach the safe internal temperature of chicken, which I believe is at least 165 F.
Someone said to flash bake it after dehydrating at 200 Fahrenheit to kill any salmonella. I was wondering about it needed to be cooked beforehand. Im thinking of doing some organ meats but i havent found a video on it yet.
If you plan to do this more than once get an dehydrator or a Ninja Foodi Max or One Pot with the Dehydrator function (personally I recommend an all in one like Foodi Max or Instant Pot
@@Xighor okay thanks! I have an air fryer and I have read that you can dehydrate in it too, maybe I will try it that way. If not I guess I will buy one 😊
@@mariapaulacoello1920 which one if your model doesn't have the function if your device can change it temperature to something like 60c and cook for 6hrs I don't see how that's different Though I just checked i can't use the air crisp option and lower below 150 Maybe there's other ways but I know with an 9 in one Air Fryer you can as it's got the function If not you could get a dehydrator pretty cheap and if you're using it more than once it will pay off over using an oven and it's cheaper making dog treats yourself than buying them premade You can also do Beef Jerky and Dried Fruits, using an oven is possible but it takes not as safe and it will use so much energy that it's not worth it imo also I don't think you can do as much In a oven Basically if you're going to do it regularly the device will pay for itself on electricity saved unless you're stealing power 😂
This video has very bad advise. Please don't put salt or sugar on your chicken. You can put chopped fresh or dried parsley instead. And don't over crowd the dehydrator like that. You don't want any overlaping or touching. Bake until the chicken is crunchy and snaps. You don't want it bendy. If you'd like for safety reasons, after dehydrating the chicken, flash bake at 200°F in the oven for 5 min or so. It will kill any salmonella that may be present. The only impressing thing is how thin she was able to get those slices by hand. Good job.
Hi Joanna! Thanks for watching my video. I love cooking so I get to practice a lot with slicing. Consult a vet before changing your dog's diet. @@BecomeInspired you're right! Yes, if you feed a raw diet, they do require added sodium and carbs. But no, not for the majority of pets who eat commercial kibble

I'm studying how to make this, I want to make it for my dogs. I'm also planning to make a small business by making and selling it to other dog lovers 🥰
That's a great idea!
Thank you for this how to video. These chicken jerky treats are so expensive in the store. I’m going to mane my own.
Hope you enjoy, and you're very welcome!
So simple and healthy. Is it organic??
Yes, I used organic meat! You can do the same if you'd like!
very informative and helpful video! thankyou for your time and effort in making this video:) your dogs are very lucky:)
Glad it was helpful! Yes, my dogs are super lucky and spoiled 😊
I did not see or hear what was the setting of the temperature of your dehydrator? I loved the video and going to try this recipe.
Mine doesn’t have a temperature selection. Just turn it on for about a day, or until they get crispy 😉
@@BecomeInspired okay thank you
@@bmtreasuresboyd3036 my pleasure! 😊
Nice video thank you.
You're welcome Roxy! What kinds of dogs do you have?
Thank you. Will try this weekend.
You're so welcome Sandy!
Omgoodness. This is awesome! Thank you for sharing with us 💐🙏🇺🇲
You're so welcome!
Thanks
No problem
@@KingdomUploader Dried salmon sounds amazing! Our dogs love that treat as well, thanks for sharing! I'm so glad you feel inspired 😍😍
How do you store these. Do they need refrigeration?
Nope, just in a cool dry place like a pantry.
This is the way.
Glad you think so!
They don’t need any seasoning!!!! Taste the naked treats. The meat itself taste amazing. I never added salt and sugar
Salt also helps with bacteria
How long does it keep in sealed containers?
Great question, I've had mine for over 6 months Melissa.
Well I don't have dehydrater
What temperature and for how long I need to bake them if I'm using oven?
Here's one that won't break the bank: The Best Dehydrator: amzn.to/34Kjn79
I set mine to 165 and let it run. I'm not sure what kind of results an oven will get you, but give it a shot and let me know!
how long you store it in plastic or glass container?
Depending on the ambient temperature, this can keep for several months. I've had mine for over 6 months now.
Can i add vitamins?
As long as your vet says it's OK, sure!
Hi, great video, could you please let me know the make of the dehydrator you are using, thank you.
Thank you so much! Here's the one I'm using: amzn.to/34Kjn79 #ad
@@BecomeInspired Thank you.
@@samjarea You're most welcome.
is the salt and sugar neccesary? Thought the key to home made is healthy treat so why add the sugar and salt?
I don't remember salt being unhealthy, but a critical part of the sodium potassium pump for mammals. Sugar is extremely light, just for taste, and unnecessary.
Adding sugar and salt for dog ?
I believe that's what I did in the video, yes.
I'm defrosting my chicken now. Thank you for your instructions.
Hope you enjoy!! Please let me know how it turns out John.
@@BecomeInspired Turned out better than I thought. Outstanding.
@@jdsguam very good! Enjoy 😊
Thank you
No problem!
Thank you 😊
you're welcome!
Can you do this with fish
Yes you can, thanks for watching, Jasmine!
She loves her dogs
Yes, I do very much!
For easier slicing, put the breasts in the freezer, maybe 45 minutes or so, just to get them stiffer making them easier to slice. Also keeping the temperature at 115 degrees or below will keep the necessary good gut bacteria alive.
Thanks for the tip! Will the breasts cook at 115?
For how long can i store it please ?
For up to 12 months!
How long it will last?
Months, Jani! It’s like beef jerky, as long as it’s in a ziplock type of bag, with little exposure to air, it will last long.
Thankyou
You're so welcome!
This is awesome for human consumption! 😍
😋
@@BecomeInspired can humans eat it since it’s been cooking for 24h
@@anthc3419 I snack on these too, and I'm fine. I don't give dietary advice, but I do love these!
What happen making it without No sugar, no salt ?
It'll be just fine if you don't use any sugar or salt. I add a tiny tiny pinch for electrolytes.
At what temperature was your dehydrator???
165f
Awesome. Thanks
You're welcome!
Temp?
I set it on high. The dehydrator doesn’t have a temperature reading, but you can be safe using whatever temperature is listed safe for chicken.
Thank you for this very useful
The pleasure is mine, Rob!
What is the temperature?
I have it set on high. Because the slices are so thin, the "high" setting is sufficient to reach the safe internal temperature of chicken, which I believe is at least 165 F.
I will do that for my survival camping. Not for a dog but for me.
Wonderful idea! Glad to hear that you love camping as well 😋
I appreciate you.
TY!
You don’t have to cook the meat first. I’m going to try this. Just asking dehydrated raw meat is ok for animal please and thankyou
Someone said to flash bake it after dehydrating at 200 Fahrenheit to kill any salmonella. I was wondering about it needed to be cooked beforehand.
Im thinking of doing some organ meats but i havent found a video on it yet.
Dogs aren’t suppose to have sugar so can I skip the sugar step?
Of course, you can definitely skip it. I put in a negligible amount just for a hint of flavor
1 teaspoon of sugar and 1 teaspoon of soap?or salt
HAH! Stop teasing, I meant "salt!" :)
If I don't have a dehydrator, can I use the oven instead??
Hi Maria! Yes you can, but the oven will take much longer to dehydrate and it uses more energy. But the result will be the same!
@@mariapaulacoello1920 which one if your model doesn't have the function if your device can change it temperature to something like 60c and cook for 6hrs I don't see how that's different
Though I just checked i can't use the air crisp option and lower below 150
Maybe there's other ways but I know with an 9 in one Air Fryer you can as it's got the function
If not you could get a dehydrator pretty cheap and if you're using it more than once it will pay off over using an oven and it's cheaper making dog treats yourself than buying them premade
You can also do Beef Jerky and Dried Fruits, using an oven is possible but it takes not as safe and it will use so much energy that it's not worth it imo also I don't think you can do as much In a oven
Basically if you're going to do it regularly the device will pay for itself on electricity saved unless you're stealing power 😂
For how long can i keep it in room temperature room??
Great question, you can keep this at room temperature for many months. Keep it in a jar or a sealed plastic bag and you'll be fine!
If you freeze a little bit, It Will be better to slice
Great idea!
Thanks for the video ! Awesome 👏
Glad you liked it!
I don't feed my dogs conventional dog food often, so they're not getting the sodium they need from that artificial food. So you know, dogs naturally need sodium as part of an electrolyte balance, so small amounts of salt aren't bad for your dog. Like most living things, dogs need salt to help balance fluids and keep nerves functioning properly.
@@BecomeInspired you're right! Yes, if you feed a raw diet, they do require added sodium and carbs. But no, not for the majority of pets who eat commercial kibble
Use garlic powder instead of salt next time. Basil and tumeric are always good!
Thanks for the suggestion!
I like her accent.
Thanks so much 😀
The highest mines goes is 158, is this ok?
That's a perfect temperature actually! Should be fine!!
@@BecomeInspired thank you for your response and videos.

When was this filmed...in 1978? I'm pretty sure this was taken from an episode of Three's Company. You know, the one where Jack was cooking for Janet's Dad's dog.
ha...HA! I love Three's Company and this is hilarious!
I like your video I do the same for my dog ThysonHe loves his chicken and he loves meat the only thing I don’t agree with you is salt and sugar that’s not good for the pets

WARNING~~ Sugar is unhealthy for dogs and should not be part of their diet. While sugar isn't toxic, it can cause stomach upset, weight gain, diabetes, tooth problems, and other health issues. Yes, dogs can eat salt in small quantities, but too much can be dangerous and lead to salt toxicosis, also known as hypernatremia. Salt is an essential nutrient for dogs, helping to regulate body fluids and support muscle and nerve function. However, a toxic dose of salt for dogs is 1.5 grams per pound of body weight, and typical dog food already contains 0.3% salt and never never give them food with salt or that has been preserve in salty liquids like canned green beans. (read the label of the cans) Salt aka Sodium is the same thing. Avoid feeding your dog high-salt foods as it can lead to salt poisoning. High salt consumption can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and seizures in dogs and most importantly organ failure. Love can kill if you do not know what u are doing.
Thanks for this!
