I don't agree with handing over the responsibility of looking after the elderly to the State. That's a western concept. Whatever religion we practice, it's in our culture to respect and care for our parents and elders. Also Siddhartha Gauthama was a Prince, although he left home, there would obviously be plenty of people to look after the parents in their old age.
