    This is very helpful, thank you. By the way, in another video you didn't enthuse about the digital teleconverter, but I find myself using it all the time. If I'm using a prime and intend to crop later, I find it makes sense to facilitate composition and focus by cropping, as it were, in camera.

    I upgraded from the X-T3 to the X-T5. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed. I expected to feel that there was a bigger difference. Watching this, I think what is going to make the X-T5 a perceptibly better camera is going to be in how I am now able to customize it.

    • @MaartenHeilbron

      I think that's correct. If you can configure your favourite settings (recipes) then that will add to your enjoyment. However, not sure that your 40Mp images should be disappointing.

    Definitely switch power setting from “normal” to “boost,” which helps AF speed and seems to have minimal effect on battery life

      @@MaartenHeilbron I enjoy your thorough videos. Fujifilm defaults this to “Normal” to increase battery life, but AF speed is noticeably quicker in “Boost.” For some reason, this setting is largely unnoticed…

      Right, buy a second battery, use boost mode. It also dims/sleeps very quickly when not in boost mode.

    Thanks for this informative video. I just got an XT5 this weekend. I have it set up to send raw files to one card and jpegs to the other. I’m not sure what happened today but I had the Acros film simulation on but when I got home and reviewed them in Lightroom, some of the raw files were black and white and some were in color even though my viewfinder for all the photos was in black and white. All the jpegs were black and white. Also, when I reviewed the photos on the camera after shooting each photo, they were all in black and white. I’m very confused about this and thought you might be able to help. I’ve shot film since the early 70’s and digital since the early 2000’s. I currently use both mediums.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The RAW files have all of the information collected by the sensor (ie, they're in colour), although the thumbnail may not accurately reflect that.

    Hello, may I ask you a question? After about 20 minutes with the lcd panel on to set the menu, I felt a warm feeling in the camera, and after about an hour, it became warmer Is it normal to have a fever like this even though we're not filming a video?

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  ปีที่แล้ว

      You may ask me a question, and if it's relevant, I will reply.
      Yes, the camera will get warmer as you use it, particularly in warmer settings. The camera does have a temperature control and will turn off if it gets too hot.

    Very nice video as usual. Is there any particular reason that you set d range priority to strong rather than auto? I have been using the auto setting on my XT3 and have generally been very satisfied. Thanks

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question! I use strong and record raw images. With the strong setting you can use the playback raw conversion to reset it to any other level. That’s true of a few other settings also. With the highest setting you can undo, but with lower settings you can’t increase.

    • @shy-guy5544
      @shy-guy5544 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MaartenHeilbron Thanks. It is my understanding that the strong setting requires twice the ISO, which in turn, increases the noise a bit.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Is there a way to set to Wide focus, to allow the camera to guess focus anywhere on screen, but then tap a single point if it were to guess incorrectly? My Canon does this as standard but cannot figure out how to get my Fuji to do this. When I tap the screen on Wide it just re-guesses where focus is anywhere on the screen and not where I’m tapping.

    I don't get it.
    Another product that is no where better (or worse) than the other 500 models already stagnating the market.
    I'm not spending $2,500 on just another run of the mill candidate that doesn't do anything better (please don't inflate marginal value) than my 10 year old Sony.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm always happy to hear from a photographer who is happy with their kit, regardless of its age. However, I'm not sure why you find it necessary to diminish the significant advances, from sensor resolution and autofocus to video capability, that have been made in the last decade.
      And this camera is anything but run of the mill. As most manufacturers turn their attention to full frame, this is a serious candidate for best of 2022.
      Finally, as a reviewer, I wish that there were more camera being released - with the exception of Fujifilm, this has been a very quiet year.

    • @graphguy
      @graphguy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MaartenHeilbron I would be interesting in knowing what video advance or still advance that in outputs a significant quality advance in the final output. Yes, there has been many that may make things easier, more automatic, but is there quantum leeps in output that the viewing audience can appreciate? I would like to see those... but not holding my breath at anyone's ability to produce even one financially viable example. :)

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The most significant change has been the improvements in memory cards providing both higher data writing speeds and larger storage. That has enabled higher resolutions, higher frame rates, higher bit-depths and better colour sub-sampling. The second change has come from sensors which can now provide higher resolutions and frame rates, more accurate colour, and reductions (and elimination) of rolling shutter effects. Third, the use of tools that increase dynamic resolution, using logarithmic encoding to better manage shadows and highlights.
      Ten years ago, the majority of theatrical movie releases were produced on film. Now, they majority are produced with digital cameras. Whether you ask James Cameron or Peter Jackson, there is no doubt as to the financial viability of digital tools for video production, nor of the increased quality that has resulted.

      I don't get it why you watched a videoclip about another camera than your 10 years old Sony and have such a negative comment.
      If you want to hightlight your camera, feel free to promote it in a videoclip and show others why it makes no sense to spend money on the newer gear.
      That might be very helpfull, because there are plenty used camera's for sale as there are many people who would be better of with a cheaaper
      solution for what they need. Especially the none pro photographers. Do have a nice day.
