      Agreed. Just re-do some of the videos and cut out some of the cutesy nonsense. IMO that harms rather than enhances these presentations...which are, otherwise, very good. I'm a Jack Webb guy: just the facts, lady, just the facts. Just give us the information--like Maarten Heilbron does. If I want entertainment I'll...wait a minute, I don't want entertainment!!!

    Important missing information: The 3 auto ISO settings are specific to each custom set. So you can effectively have 7x3=21 different kinds of auto iso settings. This is what made the Q menu most interesting to me. Thanks for another great video.

      @@pal2tech Wow Chris thank you so much for sharing your thoughts about Q menu & Custom packages.
      Well: What 's the best uses for both "Q Menu" and "My Settings"? What difference do you make between the two? And how do you decide to assign a function to one or the other?
      For example, my uses:
      > I assigned my most used settings (photometry, timer, face/eyes detection, etc) to "My settings" (= HOW THE CAMERA WORKS),
      VS
      > I want to dedicate the Q-Menu to customize film simulations, sharpness, black and white, color rendering, etc. (= WHAT THE PICTURE WILL LOOK LIKE)
      What do you think? Can I improve anything?
      Thank you so much for your help ;) greatings from France.

    I have always heavily customized my Q menu ever since I got my X-T2. I was a beta tester of the camera (my camera serial number is my name) and it has been a delight. Most people have no idea how to do it so great job covering it. HOWEVER Fuji really missed a trick and I have messaged them nearly every year to tell them they need to do this. Here's the trick. Enable Aperture, ISO, shutter speed and BRACKETING modes to be assignable to the Q menu. WHY? I regularly shoot in the studio, indoors with flash and also outdoors with flash. I also sometimes shoot time lapse or bracket exposures. Being able to set these to various Q mode settings would make changing these EFFORTLESS. 1 flick of the Q menu and I have a camera set up to PRECISELY the job at hand. But they haven't, and so it is actually fairly useless. For a RAW shooter, or if you are shooting video, most of the Q menu is useless.

    • @Mowikan
      @Mowikan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This! Hear hear! In the studio i want fixed settings with one click. Leaving everything in auto and with a single custom setting everythingset incl the withe balance.

    • @shapesinaframe
      @shapesinaframe 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should be able to do that on the X-S10 (and GFX100/S) as it doesn’t have dials for ISO, Shutter or Aperture (if you set the lens to A)

    • @patrick.771
      @patrick.771 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not so easy to do that when you have dials for Aperture, ISO, shutter speed. (ok, you could disable them at the same time)
      On the other PSAM cameras it is easy to implement. Fuji already did it with the X-S10 too.

    • @WoMoGuide
      @WoMoGuide 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patrick.771 It‘s just as easy to do on e.g. the x-t3 or x-t4 with the „movie optimized control“ setting. It was what I expected, it‘s how I came across this video. I was trying to find out why the hell my shutter speed and framerate wouldn‘t be kept in my custom settings. It makes no sense and is a little disappointing.

    • @JoaquimGonsalves
      @JoaquimGonsalves 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @wfp My thoughts exactly! How the XH2 addresses this. If it doesn't, it doesn't be a deal breaker but this is convenience that makes the UX infinitely better for people like us who want to switch the camera quickly like you would do with a modern automatic car/motorcycle that can switch between economy/performance etc.

I only realized the potential for it after trying to learn how to use a PSAM dial on my girlfriend's D700 and looking at it through the lens of the X-H2! On the point of editing the Q menu, on my X-T4, I have the working menu set to transparent background. The edit menu has a black background so it easy to know which state is being used. Also, I not sure it is obvious (although you did allude to it) that it is a good idea to keep C1 as "standard" without any custom settings so that you have somewhere you can quickly get Back to base, so to speak.
    I also want to add my thanks to you for the tremendous work you do putting these very informative videos together. You have made using my X-T4 a pleasure. I do read the manual which does a fair job of describing functions etc. but you bring them to life, telling us how things work together (or not, as the case may be). I got first to use Fujifilm cameras with an X100V and have this year bought a pre-owned X-T4 an d really enjoy the step up.

    Oh wow thank you for doing a deep dive into a feature that I bet most stay the heck away from. The UI leaves much to be desired! PS long form vids by this channel are great IMO. I don’t watch too much in my day. Quality over quantity, always.

    Thank you, thank you! I was floundering trying to understand how to change the parameter values and have them persist. Your video is the most complete of similar-intended videos. Now I understand! You should be sponsored by Fuji!

    This clarified a lot. I hope Fujifilm will take your suggestion of a better “edit indicator” in account.

    Suuuuuper helpful, thank you! I've figured out most of this on my own, but still get confused and am probably not making best use of these menus. This will really help me go back and set a full suit of shooting styles on XT-3.

    You are the best youtuber in teaching camera. You layout information so simple and easy understand. You create fun atmosphere to learn and attract peoples.
    You are very highly educated not like other just talk loud and not explaining thing well.

    Best video done so far, the Q menu is easy to use hard to explain m mate you have done what others could not, made it easy to understand, apply and use, well done

    Thanks Chris, this was very helpful. A useful follow up to this would be setting up recipes in the custom settings and an explanation of how to deal with saving the WB shift part of the recipe. It seems that some of the newer Fujis allow this but some don't.

    You are such a fantastic teacher. I really appreciate all of the preparation and time that you spend on these videos. I take any opportunity I can to recommend your channel. (High praise from a former public school teacher!)

    This such a gem of a video! My X-S10 has similar abilities and now I'm able to set my custom 1-2-3-4 to settings for my specific needs! Thank you! :)

    Second time around this great walkthrough on the Custom Settings, and I now fully understand about 'bases' and varients. Many thanks for sharing 👌
