To me, this game is what a 3D Contra should be. This is what Legacy of War, Contra Adventure, and Rouge Corps should have been like. It really upsets me how Neo Contra is the only 3D contra game that is actually good. A real shame because I do think there is potential in a 3D contra game. Like maybe a third or first person shooter like Doom or something. Now that I think of it, the new Doom games kinda feel like 3D run and gun games. Run forward, shoot everything in sight, avoid enemy fire, use a variety of weapons to deal with waves of enemies. JUST LIKE CONTRA! Only problem with the idea of a 3D contra is how bad it has been executed over the past years, which is why a lot people (including me) prefer contra to be only 2D.
I would actually like to see another 3D Contra done right - I do feel it's possible, it's just striking that balance between a good control scheme that works and getting that run and gun feeling down pat. Some good examples of other 3D games that do this (besides Neo Contra) are One, Apocalypse, MDK and to some extent Jet Force Gemini.
Have you tried the last one, rogue corps? Heard it was bad but haven't played it myself yet. I think it's pretty unlikely we get anything out of konami as good as neo contra any time soon, or ever again with what they are doing these days lol
@@PEG It's a game I still need to complete - I took a break from it when I got stuck on a longer stage that killed me twice towards the end of it - once from being reckless and again for running out of time (yeah time limits are a thing). I don't really like the shop system interface and I've mostly ignored it and probably made the game harder on myself as a result. I'm still willing to give it another shot someday, but it can't be compared to previous entries in the series, that's for sure.
If Konami is not willing to make a good Contra game these days (or a half decent one, unlike the vomit-inducing Rogue Corps, which is hardly Contra, especially with that overheating weapons bullshit...), the very least it can do is to re-release this one alongside Shattered Soldier, possibly with some of the other titles that didn't make it to the Anniversary Collection, like Contra 4 or ReBirth.

I wish this and Shattered Soldier were on modern systems. I'll always prefer something like Hard Corps and Uprising, but this is a very unique take for the series and I think it was executed fairly well. The music is also great.
Because it's got thr most annoying sections and randomness, thus easiest to get killed in. Rather get it out of the way early and not have to restart so often.

Shattered soldier was a good game, but the story direction was bad. This game was cool too, but again bad story. Contra 4 saved the series, but now the story remains in stagnation as Earth being under constant fire for reason unknown. The series does branch off into different directions.
Now this is i wanna see something real in the future in my life. I was survive the fight since childhood till i am now & no body stop me that i fight enemies like a commando soldier guy in the future for the rest of my life.🫡🪖🎖🔫💣🚀💥🌎🌍🌏
