If you put gorilla tape on the back of your target it holds the paper together really well and you can get a better idea of the group size without the tearing of the paper.

I have Erik's EC TUNER on my 6.5X47 Lapua and cut my group size in half down to .31" shooting 140 Berger Hybrid. Then put it on my .224 Valkyre and again my group size was reduced to .30" shooting 80.5 Berger fullbore target. Reminded me of my old Browning BOSS tuner from many years ago. Thank you Erik!

I'm curious about conistancy. Maybe firing 3 groups per setting then averaging them. That way you don't get one crazy good group skewing your conclusions.

I have two of these and I love it when the rifle goes into tune. It doesn't make a sound when firing. When it's out of tune it's like a tuning fork going off every shot. This brake basically takes out the need to move the bullet in and out to find the seating depth the rifle likes. You can make it even smaller a group by adding that in, but really 0.2 is fine for PRS. I have had no issues with repeatability. Erik stands by his product and at F-Class and PRS matches I see a ton of EC tuners, because he makes other styles and calibers.

I have it (in polished stainless and would rather have black) and I ran a very comprehensive test. There is no doubt that it works exactly as advertised and designed. My range was from around 3/4 moa to inside 1/4 going through the settings. My sweet spot is at "4" and it's good still at just past 3 and just short of 5.

I put this ec tuner brake on a rifle that shoots amazing. I just wanted to c if I could get rid of an occasional flyer when using a bullet that actually needed a faster twist barrel. After adjusting the tuner I have completely eliminated the flyer issue. I’m very impressed with this product!!! I’ve put off getting a barrel with a faster twist.

I started reloading this year and I have an EC tuner break on my 300 wm. The best I could get my reloads was a half inch group but by using the EC tuner I’m now shooting 1/4 inch groups. With factory ammo my gun will shoot 1 inch groups but the EC tuner will help me get them under a 1/2 inch groups. My rifle is a Christensen arms ridgeline. I have also changed the stock. With the stock change and the tuner break it kicks less than my 7mm-08. I enjoy watching your videos because you are very informative. Please keep up the good work.

All i can say is this gun is a tack drive went through some test and settled on number eight, shot a five shot group at 100 yards just under 1/4 inch group, did this test a couple more times same results, it’s made me a believer.

I bought a EC Tuner for my Remington 700-7mm REM Mag elk hunting rifle. My results were definitely similar to yours. My three shot groups went from .815 @ 100 yds to .279” @ 100 yds. I did have a setting where my groups opened up to over 1” (1.40”) then back to my best grouping. As a side note I was using IMR-4831 powder and Nosler 160 gr Accubond bullets.

Really interesting. This subject matter has been of many topics on several LIVE show, using a "barrel tuner or not"... And it really is interesting to see so many other there building a general census for the Pro's & Con's of this. Also worth mentioning, many of these folks that are already going on with this adventure of experimenting with a barrel tuner, of various brands and types, it will be crazy interesting to see the various calibers. Something so simple, yet, exceptionally complicated. These kinda remind me of the sky-scraper tuned dampers. (the multi-ton chunk of steel at the very top of the sky scraper to calm the swaying down), yet, it is just a chunk of heavy mass, hanging from cables, all the while ever so delicately balanced or tuned to the buildings harmonics.. I look forward to trying one in the future. I am a bit away's from trying one just yet, as my skill set is still too messy, to be able to notice a difference, as per, is the P.O.I. me, or the rifle system or weather, etc.... Soon though. that will be fun to play with a few of these various types of anti-harmonic / damper units.. Thank you for showing the graphs, I enjoy that seeing that kinda stuff, it helps my mind understand further what you are saying in a 2D format.. Thank you.

@@BLUELEADER78 I did a lot of shooting and testing this month. The EC Tuner brake did a fantastic job. I did most of my testing with Federal premium 175 bthp ammo. I did some testing with 168 and was able to tighten the groups down to .365 for a five-shot group. I ran out of 168 and switched to 175 BTHP. Before the EC brake my rifle would shoot the 175 in the 3/4 moa range very consistently. I started firing 2 shot groups at 0 going in increments of 2. At setting 2 they were touching but I continued on all the way back to 0 being 10. Setting 2 and 8 were both touching. 8 was very slightly tighter. I dropped back to 7 and went in half step adjustments. At 7 it had opened up to about 1/2", 7.5 was about the same, skipped 8, 8.5 was almost 1 hole but I could see it was 2 shots. Setting 9 was 1 hole, I couldn't tell through my spotting scope that 2 shots were there. I sent 3 more making it a 5 shot group. Subtracting the .308 for the bullet diameter the group measured .210. Thats a .518 hole with a .308! Wow, factory Remington 700 PSS .308 26" 1:12 twist with a Timney trigger and an EC Tuner brake is shooting factory ammo sub 1/4 moa !! Will it do it every day, probably not but that remains to be seen. I can say that I am a 100 percent believer in the EC Tuner brake.

This sounds like the product I may need. I had a load that consistently shot .5” inch groups at 100 yards with single digit ES/SD. Shot a 4” six shot group at 995 yards with that load. Then I ran out of powder and switched to a different lot of the same powder. For reasons I’m still scratching my head trying to figure out why the groups went to crap. I would have three touching and two fliers high and low. However, the velocity node stay the same with single digit ES/SD at the same charge weight. The velocity did drop approximately 50 fps though.
I also developed a load for a couple 308 rifles that have BDC reticles, is gas operated and the other is bolt action. The load I’ve developed runs identical ES/SD in both rifle, low teen ES and single digit SD, and the ballistics match the BDC reticle. The bolt gun shoots a consistent .5” five touching group at 100 yards, but the gas gun shoots .8”. I imagine this brake may shrink those gas gun groups down some more.

I'd very much like to know the repeatability. as I have and mostly use a supressor and want to get this for some club matches. the idea of being able to remove and replace without reworking up loads is very appealing so repeatability is key to me wanting it

its all about harmonics, always has been look at structured barrels if you can find that node its magic, but the ammo has to be consistent as well each round is throwing a frequency range, gotta stick with a load and run with it, you dont need anything fancy either simple washers/weights on the muzzle work

I used the 30 caliber EC Tuner Brake on my 700 Remington CDL 7mm Remington Magnum and the difference was worth every penny spent. Results on my hand loads- three shot groups starting 0.78” we shrunk to 0.19” which essentially was one button hole. Never look back!

  • @Notjay95
    @Notjay95 ปีที่แล้ว

For those weary of the tuner brake; buy one and install it as if it were a standard brake. Develop a load conventionally with a powder and seating depth node that shoots well. When you go to a match and your groups start opening up because of throat erosion or change in temperature/pressure, you can adjust your tuner on the fly as a backup.
I think this thing can cut your load development time in half. It would be so nice to find a powder charge with low sd and then you could essentially finish your load development in 1 day at the range as opposed to making a bunch of trips back to your reloading bench

I have an .30 cal EC T/B on my 6.5 Creedmoor. It is legit. And changing one parameter 100% changes the whole system. I found a setting of 8 worked awesome with my Federal primers. But shot like shit with my CCI primers. CCI settled on a setting of 16. Got just a hair under 1/4 MOA out of a custom load on a FACTORY Tikka Tac A1. Not too shabby.

I just got back from the range. I have the EC..2 tuner break, and it's amazing. I'm getting ready for hunting .
I loaded with no load development. I used 40 guns of Varget, under a Berger 175 grn vld hunter.
    At setting 8 I got.25 inch group at 100.
I tried 7 and it opened up to 3/8".
I went to 8+ and it shrunk the group to 0.029 ,3 shot group. No load development.
I'm good for in the bush where my longest shot will be just over 200 m over a pond.

It sounds like the ECTuner device will help shooters realize the full potential of their rifle. Certainly, there is no easier or less expensive way to experiment with extracting the most out of a group of components, before making more radical changes.

Gavin, do you keep your Magnetospeed on just to determine MV at zero and take it off or do you tend to keep it on all the time? I would think once you have a good load you would use the MS just to get that MV for your ballistic solution so as not to affect harmonics. I haven't heard of a tuner but it sounds like a game changer!

G'day, Always good videos thank you.
What is the science behind the tuner? Me and the Misses shoot competition light bench rest with a Lithgow LA101 22lr and a Tikka T1X 22lr. We have found that both these guns shoot best over 50 meters using CCI standard velocity rounds (40 grain at 1070fps). Would the tuner work with such low weight and low velocity?
We're trying to find a way to get to the elusive 500 point scores. Currently we are stuck in the 480's.

What I would like to know is tuning for conditions. Say you go out in the morning and shoot. Then the weather conditions change effecting your load for afternoon shoot. Or a cold front moves through. Could you add settings to your dope for different conditions? And would they be repeatable enough to make it feasible?

I've had a stainless Winchester model 70 in 30-06 for over 25 years. It came with the BOSS system...and was apparently way ahead of it's time. It is the same principle as this - a brake with a tuner. It's a shame it was discontinued. I dialed it in for factory 150gr loads when I first got it and it shot 1/2" groups...and it has shot them continuously since then.
