- On February 3rd 2017 a Snow storm hit the mountains of Snowdonia, North wales. headed to the mountains in heavy rain that night hoping for high snow precipitation. This is what happened that night.

The film was shot on Panasonic GH4, GoPro hero 3, Samsung smart phone and DJI Phantom 1 Drone.

Thanks, edit is quite easy, it just takes time, nice to be sat in the warm, but capturing the images in these conditions is the tricky part !

ahah, yeah you camped by the lake so I suppose it was a lot more sheltered. Funny enough Richard bought a 4 season 2 man tent Mountain Hard wear !!

Great video. I've watch it several times, and I love how the Soulo stands up to that fierce wind. Looks like it can take anything. May I ask, with all that equipment you carried up the mountain, how big a pack did you use? All the best from Norway.
Hey. Thanks for your feedback. Always nice to hear from the viewers. Yeah the soulo is an incredible tent. It would take a lot to bring it down ! My winter pack is typically 20 to 23kg. But this is mostly due to the 5 kg of camera equipment I bring along to film these !😉
maxdreamcreator Thank you for your answer. More than 20 kg is pretty heavy going up those slopes. What kind of pack did you use, and what was the volume of the pack? The reason I ask is that I’m thinking about getting the Soulo myself, and I’m wondering how big a pack I would typically need for winter time.
@@p.richter9592 yeah it's very heavy especially for multi days journey in deep snow. But again only cause I carry about 5kg in camera, tripod.... I use an Osprey bag 65L that's more than enough especially if you're not carrying cameras 😉

Top vid!! . Your pal should of brought a vango nova 200.. it's tight, bombproof and really secure shelter.. I'd swear by it,even in bad storms.I can't believe how decent a shelter it is for the money.two nights in 55 mph sustained gusts,made me a convert.😬

Very nice video and some extreme conditions to test your kit out. i remember you popsting a photo from this trip on a fb page and looked all wintery and calm lol how very wrong. Didnt realise you had a youtube channel also. Just subbed and cant wait for more vids. oh and was this editied on final cut? if so is it good software and worth investing in a mac to do it? hope you're well ATB Steve

Superb, and how you manage to do that filming while dealing with those conditions is seriously impressive. As someone who hasn't camped in snow like that, but would like to try, I was wondering how you deal with pegging your tent? I'm visualising stony/rocky ground with perhaps a thin and frozen soil layer, then all that snow on top. Briefly, what kind of pegs and pegging technique is needed?
David S thanks David. I used normal pegs that day straight into the ground. To be fair one of them came off in the storm over night which wasn't ideal as I had to dig it out in the dark out of the snow. I did lose one peg too in the morning. If you are planning snow camping with snow when you pitch its best to use snow peg 😉 max

Fab vid, loved your choice of music. Do you think it matters which end of the Soulo faces the wind? I have an Allak and the Hilleberg booklet suggests pitching with the foot to the wind, but that seems counter intuitive as the door opening and gutter flow direction are from the head end.
Def footing into the wind as it always tends to bend the fabric inward and you want to avoid it touch your face if you wnat to get a chance to get anu sleep 😂

What pegs did you use with the Soulo? Those that come with it didn't seem that robust and are rather short.
David Williams sorry for the late reply David. I used the standard v peg of the soulo but you are right they are short especially for snow. In fact I lost one that. Night

What speed winds do you think you experienced up there? and how did the hilleberg perform, any issues in those conditions?
Hard to say wind speed wise without properly measuring but i would say between 40 and 60mph maybe. the Hilleberg solo performed amazingly well, did not move, and felt safe in in, only problem where the condensation and snow getting in the porch due to the wind.
did you measure the windspeed?
Do you think a Hilleberg Unna would have held up as well as the Soulo?
not sure really, the Unna has only 2 poles meaning the surface area between the poles is much larger and more prone to the wind, also the longer poles are probably more likely to bend. you may have been ok, but recommend a 3 poles tent at least.
Just swap the 9 milly poles out for the Staika 10.25's....be impressed, be safe, be warm, and have LOADS more room than a Soulo! :)
