- How's your experience with the new Sonos App 80.0? Take the poll here! / @peterpee
May is going to be an exciting month. And the first week of May kicked off with a brand new Sonos app. I can see where the love is, and where the hate is. What's your opinion on this?
For me, it feels like a beta app. Like someone didn't add all the features before hitting the compile button. This feels like the original Sonos S2 app fiasco. But like the original S2 app, it will get better, and we will learn to love it.
But it has to get better. FAST. The heads up event happening soon won't wait for Sonos to fix all its bugs. - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
Software was not tested as it should be, against all software building rules. No excuses, sorry SONOS you messed up, we want a fix and it should be quick and tested available…
it was rushed for their May 7 financials call, CEO had that as their priority rather than their customers needs
@@diggable Exactly right. He should resign. Disgraceful
I have spent a considerable amount of money over the years on a complete Sonos Soundsystem for my house, inside and outside. What the hell have they done to this app??? It is barely usable. For the love of God, restore it back to how it was and release it when it’s ready!!!!!
I agree. This new version of the app is not nearly as intuitive as the previous one.
Hi, fully agree. I dislike the setup am deleting it will install the previous version. Bad job SONOS.
Totally!!!
@@peterhelbers9169 Hello, can you please tell how to install the old version on android?
How about volume slider with no numbers to indicate what per cent volume is? Basic features are missing 😢
I also like individual volume sliders for paired speakers...is that missing or am I hungover?
The volume slider with numbers are actually there. I discovered it this morning. If you tap on what looks like a double speaker icon on the room view it is available there.
@@BBushell Oh, thank goodness it's so obvious! (apologies for the sarcasm) - this thing is a total disaster, and I was so excited for it!
@@BBushellIf you don't have more than one setup there is no button at all. So I guess this is paywalled for people with more devices 😂
@@BBushell I see...
I've never used a company who manage to ruin things with software as much as sonos
there is fujifilm.
@@ancy179fuji software is shit to begin with
Alarm controls are missing. Alarm cannot be used, changed, enabled or disabled. Need a pc or Mac to do that.
If alarm set and you don’t have computer available at the moment only option is turn the speaker off.
I just don’t understand that someone at Sonos approved this app to be released to their consumers. They should know that it’s not ready right? It seems like that their software engineers did not meet the deadline of completing the product or maybe the original devs aren’t there anymore. Or are they building this app from scratch and just didn’t bother to check what features the previous versions had?
Sonos users you’ve been warned. Don’t be fooled by the advertised new interface. In short- don’t update.
Luckily, my iPad had Auto-Update disabled...been enjoying the S2 App all day.
If you don’t update you cant access all your speakers and you cant pair speakers to stereo. Damn if you do damned if you do
My system became useless after update. Constantly losing connection and disappearing in the app
Looks like all customers get to Alpha test the unvarnished experiment.
But now you have built-in ads for sonos junk! Wow.
Thank God for my iPhone SE 1 with unsupported ios 15. The only way!
Releasing an update with unforeseen technical flaws is one thing. Deciding to remove popular features, some of which were asked for and therefore added quite recently, is just plain stupid.
The only things I really dislike are the volume bar number/percent and the quick EQ.
That's on my list, but not the biggest problem I have - biggest problems I have is I can't add new songs/song lists to the currently playing list (this is an absolute fail - literally would not have bought Sonos speakers if they hadn't had this function in the app previously as we always pass the phone around at parties getting people to add what tracks they want to hear next) - and I can no longer control via my Pixel watch - again, total fail there as I've always been able to control play/pause, track skip, volume via my Pixel watch as long as the app is running on my phone.
Same problem with galaxy watch !!!
Unfortunately I updated my app as it’s supposed to be so much better. Now I’ve lost my music library so was told to use a desktop . So I can see my library but can’t search my music.. I wish I could go back to the old version . But was told that’s not possible on iOS.
I wish I had seen all the bad reviews before updating
Agree. I can’t create a playlist. Can’t even add to an existing one. Even their website instructions are referring to the old app so they haven’t even updated them ie., there is no “more…” button on the top RHC and no option to add to an existing playlist or start a new one. The only options are to save a song or replace queue 😮 I also can’t delete tracks. On the old app you just swept to left or right. That doesn’t work now either. Sonos should never have released this. Put the tan app back on the AppStore so we can all reload the previous app
I am lucky that I have both iPhone and Adnroid. Now I have to disable the automatic update feature on both phones. I used my Android to upgrade the Sonos app to test it out, and it was a big shock of the new app, and I turned off the auto-update on my iPhone to save my 16.1 app on my iPhone. Thanks for Android that I can easily find the old app apk to reinstall the 16.1 app on my Android phone. Sonos, stop pushing me to update your terrible app every time I open my 16.1 app.
@@classicfan1014 I agree , better still would be to have both versions so people could try and if they didn’t like it go back to the old version till the bugs in the new one are solved
Thanks so much for covering this Peter. Perfect video!!
The quick EQ is missing.
Now that you mention trueplay broken and you cannot set distances on the android, I can see how my surrounds on two different systems broke. It shouldn’t matter that I’m using Symfonisk, but they cannot register them to my account. With your long list of issues and all of the others posting on the community I’m sure Sonos has heard the will of its people. Thanks for all the content you post for us to keep up to date with everything Sonos.
I’ve been a beta member for 4 years. I’ve never been asked to beta test anything. They need to leverage this group WAAAY more if they plan to introduce new user experiences like this. Just poor project management IMO.
I’m still with 16.1 won’t update till I hear is safe to update with no flaws.
The app is appalling.
This statement says it all!
Hi Peter,
You are the absoluut wizard of wireless audio to us. I learnt very much from your video's. Because of your settings and technical support i was experimenting with some things. I love the Fives very much but i both a Sonos Era 300 set and they are fantastic in stereo and in surround sound. But then i thought about the next thing. The Sonos Five and the Sonos Era 300 are two different worlds and both fantastic. So i combined them in stereo. I made two groups. I placed the two Sonos Era in front 3.5 meters apart and the Sonos Fives next to them on the outside and I turned the Fives a little to the wall, left aswell on the right side of course. The results are amazing. The Sonos Era 300 are fantastic in spreading the sound and the Sonos Fives are beasts in the bass line. I combined two worlds together. I hope that one day you will do some research with this line-up. You can do this like no other. Maybe you have already done this...
Greetings from the Netherlands, Rotterdam. Love from Holland...
Great one Peter. I am relieved that the problems I encountered are not just mine. Now I can rest assured that Sonos is going to fix them. I would really hate to get out of sonos eco system.
They claim to get to semi-feature parity in couple months. No word on when they’ll fix the new bugs introduced when they rush development.
So with the latest update to 80.01.11 they force the 16.2 update to your speakers! You can’t get around that um if you want to use the app…@peter can you please tell us your analysis on 16.2
I usually don’t like ganging up on Sonos, but this update was pretty horrible it looks very nice and I could get used to the new UI but there’s so many problems and features taken away, it feels like a beta they rolled out to everybody
Trueplay got issue for this new update ( even restart my iPhone 15 and turn off and on back my arc and era300. Because I testing my era300 relocation, I tried 9x trueplay, 4 x failed by doing half way and hang until u manually close the app, 2 x cannot click continue button after ask for turn 180 degree on my phone
Does anyone know how to play all songs by an artist without selecting a specific album? I can’t figure it out, and it is super annoying to have to go choose a new album > song each time I listen to an artist with a lot of singles. I’m using Apple Music through the Sonos app. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
If you already ran Trueplay, are those adjustments still reflected under the new operating system??
I wasn’t able too set the balance for my surround speakers on the new app on the old app you could set the distance between the left and right surrounds if you turned off true play.
How to find the app poll you posted?
Will they restore missing features eventually - probably. But the issue is they’ve shot themselves in foot, won’t admit it, and expect customers to suck it up for a few months just to get back to features they had a few days ago.
I can’t separate my Arc from my Sonos Ones that I use as rears for movie watching. I keep getting an error message. But my iPad mini which hasn’t been updated still works. 🤔🤨🧐
I love Sonos, and been buying/building my architectural system throughout the house. But I can’t figure out how to add songs to the playlists I created.
They also need to allow storage space for saved songs to be increased.
The new app is so much slower then the new app. Volume change is taking far to long and the loading times when you chose a song takes double the time. I downgraded my phone to 16.1 and its instantly so much smoother. I have a top tier phone so the difference in speed is really noticeable maybe this is les a problem on mid and lo tier phones, but for me the new app is annoying to use because of the difference in speed.
I also cant add my new sub g3 to the system everytime i try to add it the app crashes and is closing. After downgrade to 16.1 there are no problems
Hello, how did you downgrade ? I have an android phone.
How do you update your speakers on the new app?
I bought 2 new roams, 1 SL and other is with mic. I put them in to my son’s app who lives in the US. He took them to me back to Turkey and I tried to put them to my app trying to factory reset them but it is impossible. I successfully factory reset the devices but somehow can not add in to my app. After connecting to the home Wi-Fi, at the last step they just can not be recognized by the app. I get an error message.
What may the problem be? (can it be something with the regions)
How do you think I can solve it?
Thank you.
It looks like deja vu for the S2 'footshot' release six years ago. It took them MONTHS to rectify the basic problems.
Yes that's it Peter. There's no queue management possible which there was in the old App. How do I create a playlist? It used to be that I'd choose an album, then another one "add to end of queue" then click "shuffle". Now that's disappeared. When I searched for a performer, it gave me an automatic playlist; many tracks I don't want, but I can't delete them. Can you help?
So what can be done about true play nothing? Went to recalibrate as I’ve moved and it gets to the part where you move around then…nothing. Just stops. This is after the circle has filled in then you are forced to hit cancel and if you try again, says error occurred.
All of a sudden, just like that, the previous app version is now brilliant!
Lots of features missing with the new version, que management, alarms, access to your local music, search song by artist or album, etc. Not a tad sluggish. It is downright slow. You hit it right on the head, rushed this out too fast. Should have been a beta tester focus group.
No thanks!
I’m just glad I still have the s2 app on my IPad and turned off automatic updates. I had to move my surround era 300s and couldn’t get Trueplay to work on the new app with my phone.
...luckily, my iPad didn't update. Been enjoying S2 app all day.
Missing sleep timer is bad but i can live without it until they put it back in. The app response is sluggish. Feels like its struggling to retrieve information from some far away server. I was looking forward to the new interface until i got it. Doesn't feel new. Not sure its any better than the old one. If i hadnt already updated, i wouldnt have, given the user experience i know now. Hope they fix it soon.
Another thing is sometimes changing settings doesnt stick. Have to change it, go out, come back in and see if it has logged. If not, change it again and repeat until it sticks. Other thing is you would expect it being like a web app that you would be able to control your system across the net but you can't. You still need to connect to wifi.
Cant you just say "Hey Sonos...turn the music off in 30 minutes, etc. ? "
@@markrosenzweig1103 Not everything using their voice systems
Biggest change I love so far is their web app. I can control my speakers remotely.
Hi Peter, great video as usual..I can’t find the area in the new app to add nas music library…it’s gone! Advise
Truplay toggle is gone from the Android version. The WM setup information for each speaker is gone from the Android version (still showing on Apple), and the version number is not showing only the build number....Apple version shows both.
Really nice to be able to manage stored WiFi networks now. There was no way to do this before the update to 80.
Took a bit to find my way around the new app, but no problems to speak of. There was a firmware update to 16.2, that was not the smoothest. But not really out of bounds from past updates. There was a failure message a couple of times, but appeared the devices did update, but the app did not wait long enough to get a response from the device restarts.
A few things I like, like much more readable 'about system,' screen.
No real 'bugs' found. Working pretty much as expected.
@peterpee is there a 3rd party iOS app for the Sonos ARC that you would recommend instead of the new official app? I hope there is a good 3rd party app as the official app is now rubbish. Thanks.
My problem is i have the arc by itself i haven’t purchased any other items yet but true play isn’t working with this app. I dont hear the tones to tune the arc. Is it because i only have the arc and not any other speakers yet?
i have the arc and surrounds and a sub. And trueplay is not working for me either. No sounds are being played when i try to trueplay my system
@@kevinortiz28 i tried calling customer support they have a 1.5 hour wait to pick up the phone that sucks😡
It Seems the microphone issue/ error for automatically tuning it on and off is solved??? Because i have not heard it any more. I am wondering of that will last and if i am right.
Update: It did not solve the issue. It is still there
We cant setup a WiFi connection on the new app
I also couldn’t run trueplay and kept hanging at the same point as you with my iPhone. Thankfully I hadn’t updated the app on my iPad so I was able to re-run trueplay with the iPad. Unreal this is broken.
My phone updated and the app is net even a Beta version. I don’t understand how this can happen…. Thinking on leaving SONOS if thatch’s how they treat clients. Worst version even from SONOS. I can not even make groups, no button to mute, have to slide the volume all the way to 0. No indication of the current volume, and many more issues.
I have 2 mayor issues with the app. I use 2 sonos systems both at work and home. Before I used to swap between them based on location flawlessly. Now I have to log in again everytime I move between work and home. Second the “audio in” info seems to be broken. In the about my system tab where all devices are listed I used to check if my arc is receiving trueHD or normal atmos. This no longer shows any information.
were is the trueplay setting in the new app ?
Another thing missing is the option to find missing devices. My speakers keep disappearing from my system & still don't reappear after restarting both them & my router. They still work however so the app is definitely messed up! 🙄
Same here.
Perhaps this was in the background, previously... only my ERA100 & my 2ea Roams show connected to my WIfi Router. Everything else sez "Network Unavailable".
1:49 mine have the same “About” in iOS as you with version 16.1.1, however, on my Android device (for the same account & hardware setup-arc/sub/One) it showing version 78.1.
Now, IDK if my hardware is on 16 or 78?!? 😮
Hi Peter, do you have a review on the Sonos turntable, Roam 2 and Stereo pair via Bluetooth for on the go! Thanks for what you do!
For the first time in over a week, my Sonos speakers have finally shown some stability, allowing multiple rooms (with multiple speakers - Arc, Move, Five’s, One’s etc) to actually play consistently, no drop outs, or lost speakers. Has something changed, did Sonos fix something in the background? My system has gone from unusable to “fairly” normal, I’m a happy fella 😬
Can I download old version anywhere
Hi Peter, I was waiting for your video mate 😊 … and you don’t have to be politic … I’m Sonos big fan and I have all of their products but this time I think Sonos made a huge mistake!
I’m not complaining about the UI design or missing features… I’m taking about adding the speakers glitches… now all of my speakers are not working at all
I had that Day 1 & into Day 2...rebooted everything (my ERA100 & 2ea Roams were the only devices that connected).
Both TVs' surrounds were non-existent. I just took a break from any music listening. Today's the day, though.
Last night, I noticed the big TV Room had the surrounds sounding pretty good again. Maybe there's hope?
I can not switch from one system to another… it’s really glitchy!
Try to transfer your whole system to yourself. Worked for me.
It's so bad...it''s almost comical. My iPad still has S2. Been using it all thru the morning with pleasure. Battery was low, so I went with the Kindle that has the Sonos update. Just let the existing Playlist stream. Both Roams, for a change, stayed pretty solid. The App, however, continually dropped...No Devices Found, No Service, etc..and the music played on. Couldn't control it until, magically, the App recognized my System again. Occurred all afternoon. Eventually, I added a song...wiped out the entire Playlist. Bravo, Sonos!
Great review Peter! I’m a patient man, but why should we be patient with SONOS when they break things that weren’t broken…
I like the new look of the app but not having volume numbers is a pain hopefully it gets fixed soon. Also I hope Sonos adds support for hight speakers that would be awesome then we could add x4 or x6 in ceiling speakers depending on the size of the ur room and use them as hight speakers. My ultimate Sonos setup would have x1 arc x2 gen 3 or gen 4 sub, x2 era 300 & x4 8inch in-ceiling speaker as my hight channels
Thanks Peter your comments are spot on, it was a weak launch.
Interesting find..... started watching Deadpool 2 on BD the other day. It's DTS-HD. I'm adamant the old sonos app was displaying multi-channel pcm 7.1.... juat watching the second half now and getting a display of DTS (Type1) 5.1...... either way the (Type1) is definitely new when DTS audio is being played back.
If you have the Sonos Controller app on a windows PC, the alarm and Sleep controller are still there. However, access to Music Library is now lost on the PC version as well. 😞
my only problem is with the missing alarm and sleep timer.. but they're still active and can be managed, in the interim, from the desktop app ヅ
I know this is not ideal but if you have Sonos voice set, you can set timers, no command for alarms tho.
@@Infinitelight8888 I actually have Alexa routine for the sleep timer - the routine works but the timer didn't. According to the support group coz it's not an Alexa device.. Whatever.. Is anyone else unable to retune Trueplay? Mine becomes unresponsive after flipping phone. Any advise on how to fix? Thanks in advance
what about spotify library it just says something went wrong.
Thank you for being objective. I really appreciate your Sonos advice and nice to see you call them on their nonsense with this app
Hey Peter I’ve had the updated Sonos app for a while now probably like most of you. I’ve toggled between turning true play off and on. It maybe just my opinion but I find the sound much better with true play turned off. I find the sound fills the room better and is all around you.
I couldn't access any settings until I updated to 80.02.07 and now my rooms don't group with each other.
I can’t edit alarms. The button is missing in the latest version. It could be good, but navigation isn’t very intuitive. Many features are missing.
can't see percentage of volume any more , please fix this
Thanks I’m going to hold off on updating for now. It’s trying to make me update to add a new music service to the app.
I installed it and began to wonder if it were 1st April!
Been looking forward to this one 👍
I wasn't even aware it was coming. Now it's here, I wish it would go away. It's a total shipwreck. I guess for people who care more about how something looks, rather than whether it actually works, then that's okay.
Another bug or oversight of the developers to point out in the new app is that the Sonos roam does not wake up if they are in Wi-Fi energy saving mode. The truth is that there are already many faults in the app, you cannot update it and not have a bad experience.
Thanks again for the comprehensive update on the app. For me its not that user friendly and the lack of ability to manage my music storage is appalling
My sub won't connect anymore after i had to move it for a day. The app crashes while i want to make a connection with the sub...
Wow, I had held out hope that even if the experience was bad for people like me using screen readers, it would be fine for everybody else: but I guess there are a lot of weirdly missing features here for everyone. Why were they in such a hurry to push this out the door?
I immediately noticed one positive. As a Sonos user with a large system, it seems to work better. By “better” let me explain. My main system is the Arc plus two subs plus two Era 300 surrounds and a front pair of Era 300s grouped with the Arc. I was constantly having to re-group the Era 300s with the Arc. And when I wasn’t doing that, I was having to choose the TV as a sound source for the Arc because my music choice kept disappearing. This new version appears to handle big systems much better because I am not having these issues.
I have a Sonos sound bar and surrounds, plus a Roam. Headphones are my number one wanted product (even more than getting a sub or sub mini since my system is on a second floor, thus the headphones.) I can only imagine how much Sonos branded headphones are going to be. I can't bring myself to spend that kind of money if I need buggy or broken software to go with it. That's even assuming they turn out to be worth the wait.
Sonos Connect no longer usable: I can not stream any longer to any of my speakers from Sonos Connect as update of firmware happened in the background from Vers. 16.1 78.1-51070 (of all Speakers) to 16.2 79.0-52294 for all other speakers except for the Connect that stayed at the former version.
Any suggestions?
Yeah... Sonus wants u to throw ur Connect (investment) away and buy the more expensive Port which does the exact same thing. :) My sonus does not work at all anymore - not even my Gen 2 stuff. So count yourself lucky that at least u only have to say bye to ur connect
You did not mention , "Audio In" on "About My System". That was the only place where you could see TrueHD Dolby Atmos while the Sonos UI screen would display Dolby Atmos only.
You are so good Peter !
Cosmetically, it looks better, but I can confidently say it has some bugs. I tried to factory reset two Eta 100 speakers (that were configured in Stereo) in a family room. The reset went fine, except under the new app, I could not re-register the speakers again to my account! I continuously received an error, "Unable to register Sonos Era 100 with your account"??
Went back to the old Sonos App on my older iPad, and everything worked first time.
I would stay well clear of this app for a few iterations :)
I updated the app on my phone and noticed the alarm issue the next morning. Fortunately, I also have the app on my PC and haven't updated it yet, so I can still control my alarm that way and won't be updating the one on my PC.
Until your controller updates automatically. What will happen very soon
Nailed it. Word for word. Particularly about marketing vaperware. The app ain’t ready for consumers, full stop.
With my upgrade, so far so good
You’re right Peter still happy with the sound and not firmware update
But this 80… update app it not good at all I didn’t see the sleep alarm functionality (but the way very helpful) I have an issue with my favorite channels
I’ll attach a pic for your reference
Something to concern for a people who’s using the app very often
Can't delete the queue?
Cant watch TV cause whole system no sound, unable to perform trueplay etc…. U guys not facing this serious issue after the last update?
I see what ya did there at the end 😎
I able to run true play on iPhone 12 Pro Max, somehow the sound became crap, tried few times the outcome same. I have to turn off the true play and wait for another update then will try again. My Beam gen 2 keep disconnecting since 16.1.1 update, so I tried to factory reset and reconnect, so far the connection is stable but true play gone wrong with new app.
My rears are beter than ever but the beam 2 bar is now as if I have damaged hearing sound distanced muted
Could add default speaker for my Sonos port or Connect Gen2. Luckily I still had the old s2 app on my iPad.
I got two Sonos speakers for Christmas. I wanted to set them up today. But they are simply unusable. Can't connect them, can't log in, can't update the app. Can't connect to the speakers. There is not a single thing working on the app. I've got two brand new speakers that I can't use...
I updated on all my devices before I even tried out the app and I regret my decision. The only thing I don’t like though is that they removed the volume level number unless you adjust from the system tab.
We have used Sonos
for ten years and always been happy with it. Until now. The app (upgrade) is terrible. We can't access the music on our hard drive. We can't queue tracks or curate or delete playlists. At the moment we have an expensive system that isn't worth anything.
You trickster!! Love the last 10 s!
Thanks for the video. Agree that the new app is many steps backward. Hope it’s gets changed soon.
For me i cant add apple music in sonos app and cant play anything from apple music, but i have trueplay tuning on iphone.
I dont have any issues with other music providers, just adding apple music in sonos app. If i play with airplay from apple music it works on my speakers but dont have dolby music. In apple music it shows high resolution lossless but no information in sonos app
Now that Sonos supports lossless for Apple Music and Amazon Music, have you considered making a video comparing their quality?
I have not been able to access my Sonos system at all anymore after updating? What the hell is going on at Sonos?
I was waiting to finally get sonos controls on my samsung at the top of my notifications with the rest of my media apps (Spotify, Plex, etc). Not only did that not happen, but they removed the widget?!?!?! Seriously?
