    I only watched the list-item summary. However, this is excellent! I would never have thought to consider all of these details, pre Era 300, purchase Peter (especially the Wifi 6 line item for full functionality) Thanks so much; your Sonos expertise and value here in the TH-cam product-advertising-parading-as-"education"-swamp, is unparalleled!

    Thank you so much for your effort and awesome videos!
    I have bought 2 era 300 speakers to use with the arc and sub gen 3 (instead of 2 Sonos one SL I have today).
    Unfortunately Sonos wall mounts are not coming to my country. Do you think it's ok to use a regular shelf with nothing blocking from any side (up or left/right)? Will the sound be any less good? Or should I wait and buy wall mounts from abroad (which will take some time)?

Do you think I could still incorporate both the SL1's and the new 300's into my surround setup or would the 300's just replace the SL1's? Awesome technical content.
    I have a quick question not related to the video. I’ve been experimenting with a Sonos roam stereo pair added to my arc, sub & play 3 setup I think it widens my front channel experience.
    What are your thoughts on this?

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It plays the summed stereo from your roam setup. It will give the impression that the soundstage is wider. There are viewers suggesting that setup, with Ones, Fives, anything but really the effect is that the bass and left, right center, surround, are all playing through the Roams. So what happens is that while it widens the sound stage, it pulls the center image further apart such that dialogue seems to come from both sides, which is not ideal. And the surrounds are pulled to the front, which gives a shorter surround.

    I have the side outward drivers firing off the walls which creates a very nice reflective effect! BT in a stereo pair only lasts about an hour before it goes funny and you have to reset. Weird, had exactly the same issue with a Google Home Max stereo pair via BT. Stick with streaming.

  • @ms3862
    @ms3862 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One other piece of advice, don't just have a clean line of sight for the era but also the stands for the era 300 are height adjustable- make sure the top firing speaker on the era is above the level of your ears - otherwise you will hear any overhead Atmos effects. This can apply to the Arc as well but it's only an issue if you sit very close to the Arc where as users are likely to sit very close to the Era300 so their height is very important

    • @davidthanos
      @davidthanos ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Sean Takacs thanks. Didn't think of left front right rear. Gonna try it. The best part in the living room I sit in the right rear of the room. So should be an experience. Just waiting for the sub to go down in price. I should've bought 2 when they had that sale in November

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David. When you are trying to position 2 subs, work on 1 first, leaving the other sub turned off. Find the best position which gives you the most bass, moving around until you are happy.
      Once you fix the first sub, lock in the position. Turn on the second sub, and then move that sub around to find where the best position is. The best for the second sub is not necessarily one that will make your bass sound louder or overwhelm you. It's the position that creates a LARGER sweetspot for your bass.
      The worst positions are those that creates a NULL in your listening position. Meaning to say the bass from the second sub cancels out the bass from your first sub in your listening position. Avoid at all costs.
      While you positioning the second sub. Do not move the first sub from the position that you have determined to be the best for single sub. Just work on the positioning for the second sub.
      Room layout and furnishing matters a lot so there is no best place for dual subs, or single subs for that matter. Common layouts are front left and front right. Another well loved config is diagonal corners of the room. But I would suggest that they don't end up in symmetrical corners where they look like a mirror image and at equal distance from you because that is likely to create nulls especially in a bigger room.
      Concerts are fond of deploying subs grouped together when they are in open air location. Because without wall and ceiling reinforcement and bounce, single waves from subs positioned far apart might not even have a chance of reaching some listening positions.

    Hi Peter, for the ERA300, when playing music from Apple Music, is Dolby Atmos (or Spatial Audio) only available if you play via the Sonos App with the crappy Apple Music integration or does it play Atmos as well if using the Apple Music app directly via Airplay 2 ?

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It will play Atmos when using Apple Music app. The Sonos speaker is not getting the sounds via Airplay. It is being controlled over Airplay but the stream for Atmos is being streamed from Apple Music server direct. Now, before anyone quotes me on this, let me confirm this for sure when I get my hands on the speakers ok?

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Benny, thanks for being patient with this. I have the answer on this. Apple Music does not do Atmos over to Era 300 via Airplay. It doesn't work the same way as Apple Homepods. So the only way is for S2 App to pull the Atmos track from Apple Music.

      It won’t work because the ERA speakers will always play the sounds that are designed to be heard from behind you in an atmos setup. With your setup you’ll be hearing these sound coming from up front which is against the creators intention.

    I had the whole Sonos home theater set up and found the Atmos non existent due to the arc up firing speaker pointed straight up and not angled. The Arc really needs a update/refresh. However the 300s look to improve the Atmos setup because it actually has up firing drivers vs the Ones SL. What Sonos should do is let you connect 5 era 300 as a home theater. That would probably be a game changer but expensive.

I bought the Sonos Boost a couple years back just so all my Sonos speakers can have its dedicated own Wi-Fi system and doesn't interfere with anything else (a friend suggest I get it). Just recently I bought a WiFi 6 router. So should get rid of my Sonos Boost given my new router is WiFi 6 or just keep it?
