      Beyerdynamic, please consider developing a professional USB DAC DT900 Headphone. Imagine something like the tiny little ESS Sabre DAC AMP that's built into an Apogee Groove within the headphone itself so the headphone cable simply plugs into the USB device. My DT990's 250ohm simply live connected to an Apogee Groove but I always think I should just rewire the Apogee Groove directly into the DT990 cups or headband because there's no point them being separate devices, when such a sound can come from such a tiny little Apogee Groove over USB. It would be the complete 'Active' USB headphone monitoring system. Same Headphone DAC AMP and so sound whatever device you plug it into! The Apogee Groove is even ASIO drivers, so perfect for music production too.

    Hi Thanks for the detailed and precise review of both 700 and 900. I am planning to purchase a headphone for audio/ vocal editing on logic pro, listening to music or movie would be secondary.
    Do I need an amp with Beyerdynamic dt 990 pro in order to do audio editing?
    or I should go for Beyernamic dt 900 pro or dt 700 pro for audio/ vocal editing?

    • @ManchesterMusic
      @ManchesterMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You shouldn’t need an amp. Impedance is pretty decent on both sets of headphones. Ideally you’re editing with a set of headphones that’s as neutral as possible. Personally, I’d go with the 900s for this task but I’m sure you’d get great results with either set.

    How is the beyer peak on those? im not really into mixing but more of a listening guy and currently deciding on a pair of new headphones to keep. I had the dt770pro, i liked it, peak was just .. bearable, any more and it would be too much but way to much bass and i felt to claustrophobic in those closed cans. Dt990...that beyer peak is literally killing my ears and while i dont say that ''sense of more clarity'' with increasing treable is a bad thing for some uses, i dont think i would want that for an every day allaround listening experience. Sennheisers sound way more relaxed to that from what ive heard so far. So currently i have an eye on some used 650/6xx but that was before i heard there are 900 Pro x now. since they are all around the same price range. i can get a used pair 650 for like 200 6xx goes for like 180 (europe so its kinda hard to get them) 250 for the beyers. They all are around that pricepoint that i wanna put my money on.

      In my view, the 50-65hz range on the DT900s 'knocks' a little more (fundamental of the kick for example is a touch more upfront), low mids I'd say are a little more neck and neck in terms of sonic representation across both headphone sets. Please ask me anymore questions you need. Hope that's helpful.

      Ended up buying the 900 Pro X and Not gonna lie, I love them. At the beginning I had those headaches due to pressure but the book trick helped a lot and now the fit perfect.
      Spotify sounds warm, wide and not crisp at all, I can hear all instruments clearly (I listen Metal, Lo-fi, EDM as reference) just like a good pair of speakers in my room.
      For games I noticed the difference from my last Play Station Gold Headsets, the Pro X open back helps to have a better spacial recognition, hear better distances and steps (Played Destiny 2, Apex, Warzone and Minecraft, for reference) and I used to play without the music but now it doesn't sound overwhelming as other headsets
      My opinion (as a non audiophile or audio expert) I loved them, the build is great, the cables are great, the sound quality is amazing. I totally not regret my choice.

      Ultimately I would not recommend using the 770s or the 700s for critical listening…IF you can afford the 900s, which in North America are exactly the same price as the 700s.
      That’s not to say that you absolutely never ever should use 770s or 700s for critical listening but by Beyerdynamics own literature and engineering the 700/770 are for tracking, not for critical listening.
      If you’re looking for new critical listening headphones and have the money I’d spring for the 900s, hands down.

I very much appreciate your rich vocabulary (which is not stereoptyped at all like so many testers on youtube who use the same catchy technical terms but which we can clearly see that it only serves them to fill in a real absence of reflection or thought). From „lowest“ (cheapest) to „highest“ this would be (for open back) the DT 990 Pro, the 900 Pro X and the DT 1990 Pro. As someone owning the 990, I’m now asking myself if (detachable straight cable aside) the difference between the 990 and the 900 Pro X is big enough to warrant an upgrade, or if I should rather save up and get the 1990 some time… 🤷‍♂️

      Ok so first thing that I want to mention is that I am not a music creator or reviewer so I wont be talking about frequencies but I love listening to music and gaming occasionally and I can spend hours watching/reading audiophile headphone reviews. I used to own 770s(80ohms), 1770s, 990s, 1990s (250ohms each) and couple of other headphones. When I first got 770s and 990s I loved them despite the fact that treble are quite harsh somethimes but that depends on the music you listen to and you need some time to get used to it. The openness/soundstage of closed 770s and bass was a big positive surprise for me coming from HyperX Cloud 2s. Bass on some songs was like siting next to speakers. After getting 1770s I was very disappointed. Treble were not as harsh which is a good thing but they sounded more closed than 770s and bass was like one tone boomy slap. Imaging and separation were basically the same in my opinion. I compared some bass heavy tracks and 770s were vibrating on my head were 1770s have not. There was no subbass at all very disappointing so I sent 1770s back after a month.
      Now let's talk about 990s and 1990s. My overal impression was very positive with 1990s to the point that I have sold my 990s. First and most important thing is that they have fixed treble, not a harsh anymore as 990s and better bass, it has more punch to it. Not even close to 770s but definitely better than 990s. Imaging and separation as good as 990s. After few months of daily use for music and gaming I really missed the openness/soundstage of 990s and I did regret selling them. After pandemic hit us all I've lost my job so I had to sell all my headphones so I'm on the market for a new pair as I kept HyperX only and they are decent and sound like 770s little brother. I definitely wont be getting 1770s or 1990s as they are overpriced and not worth spending that much for what you get. There are better options out there for this price. I will be looking out for direct comparison between 770s and 700X and 990s and 900X as Im really tempted to get 770s and 990s again. I also got my eyes on AKG 702/712pro as I've heard a lot of good opinions about them. Some mixed but mostly good. Apparently they are sounstage monsters some compare soundstage to 800/800s that cost over 1k. Maybe I will get AKG and 990s to compare them myself or maybe I will get planars as I never owned a pair. Journey for end game that never ends.

    Thanks for the review!
    But I like to have a more detailed review, especially in terms of sound comparison between the DT 770 and the DT 700 (Bass, Mids, Highs, Soundstage, Imaging,...).
    The same goes for the HD 650 vs. DT 900. I had a lot of headphones in my life from 5 $ - 3500 $ and my favorite headphone of all time is the HD 650 (how I perceive a natural sound signature, the HD 650 matches it the most). So it is interesting for me to know, how the HD 650 differs in detail from the DT 900 in terms of sound.

    • @ManchesterMusic

      Thanks Intreppit. The 650s..yeah they are pretty unmatched for me, at that price point anyway.
      Given that I use(d) the DT770s for tracking and content consumption I didn't think it useful to approach the review of the 700s vs the 770s on the merit of critical listening potential. I hope you understand. My 650s own that role and now the DT 900s will share the load, perhaps.
      If enough folks want, I'd be happy to do a review/comparison of the two on a more nuanced, detailed, sound level.

    • @ManchesterMusic

      I’d say, what’s the job you want your headphones to perform? The 770s are a closed back headphone, designed for tracking instruments in a pro or project studio and perhaps the odd mixing job. The 990s are open back and designed for critical listening (mixing, mastering, repair). Figure out what you need them for and go from there.

      I bought 770 2 weeks ago. Big mistake. Waste of money. Even 30$ koss 30kph that sound more balanced or even superluxes 681 Evo that cost 32$ with better, fuller sub bass are more balanced that terrible harsh trebly tin cans dt770

    • @martinkulik9466
      @martinkulik9466 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @jzo good to know. I thought I might like 1770, but I will look elsewhere. No company serious about sound can release 770 for any use. They are NOT true to sound. they lack body and make bass sound lean. It's there but it's narrower sounding. I was testing few headphones where dt770 were most expensive and I bought them due to TH-cam fanboys swearing by them, but they are another example of bandwagons hype that people follow blindly probably by mass following hysteria. I was testing them on various instruments and multi sample recordings of studio quality drums in my Korg synth, and those kicks for example that are robust sounded lean and narrow in dt770!!! How is that possible these crappy 770 are even used for tracking!? Yes they have bass but that bass spectrum is very narrow and even EQ is not making difference because their driver is not able to transmit those frequencies!! Big flaw!! Then I was listening to tidal 320kbps various songs, various genres and music sounded again lacking something and sounding lean in dt770. Cheap superluxes 681 Evo much more true to life having body and fullness, and I am not talking necessarily bass here! People get all technical using frequence response graphs thinking that's all that is to the sound which is big mistake, there is much more factors but they solely go with graphs and forgot to use their ears!!! And I repeat specifically older (80s-90s) music with clean pronounced instruments are lacking bigly on dt770 where $30 681 Evo perhaps not as detailed, but still provide fuller more balanced and pleasant listening!!. I mention older songs because newest songs have too much fillers, such as risers, swooshes, and even lo-fi so those instruments are not as clear as when music was recorded for CDs. And not even going to the whistling piercing treble on dt770. I mean the fact these are recommended by everybody on TH-cam besides few (DMS headphone guy shares the same opinion as me btw and he is much more knowledgeable about headphones), but again every other music producer TH-camr recommend these... Mind-blowing. No more crowd advice following by me. This was last drop for me to confirm people are using recommendations and stereotype opinion of others instead of their own ears and senses

    • @martinkulik9466
      @martinkulik9466 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @jzo the thing is I have no more budget left for headphones. I am just listening q30s from Anker... That's unbeatable hi-fi experience for 60-70 bucks... But only on Bluetooth since I suspect they are powered by internal amp or chip. On cable they are dull but I still listen sometimes to them. It's crazy sound for money... They also have dedicated EQ app. again we are talking 60-70 bucks, but they might stop making them since they already make q35 which supposedly are not as good. I just swapped these ankers with dt770 back to back comparing ...and It's completely different fidelity experience... I might buy another q30s damn if I get them for 50 bucks somewhere. Also I wasn't implying before superluxes better than dt770, but I was putting things in perspective for fraction of a cost. Dt770 still sounded metallic, sterile, piercey, they have bass and even sub bass but there is still something missing in low frequences to me. Feels incomplete. The thing is when ppl don't have other headphones to compare everybody will adapt to what they have and think it's good

    • @seoulsoul7446
      @seoulsoul7446 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @jzo the whole point of the headphones is to replicate an accurate sound of what was made...if you can't "hear bass" in headphones not made for casual listening then that's completely normal because if the bass in your project is too low then you'll know what to boost. Remember casual listening headphones aren't balanced like mixing headphones are they boost certain frequencies to give a better sound or more bass etc...

    I have the 'regular' DT 990 PRO 250 OHM version, and I've been very happy with them. I particularly like their 'compromise' of boosting the lows a bit more than you might expect from mixing and mastering headphones. I think that was a great choice. For mixing and mastering I juxtapose their sound to my BOSE Studiocraft 330s. (It's a 'choice', I know. But it works well for me.)

      It is true that the DT 990 Pro "regular" is good, even ideal, especially for music alone (no of false bass added). On the other hand, for listening to films in HD quality (even the great classics of the period), I find that they lack profundity, there is not enough of this impression "cinema" sound field. I don't know (but I hope) that for the Pro X version this depth will be slightly more present, even if it is of course open and not closed headphones.

      That being said, I haven’t heard the 1990s though so I have no idea what qualitative differences there are between 900x and 1990. I’m a firm believer in trying before buying/advocating.

      Reviews, thoughts, opinions are my own. In my country, the 650s are $599 on Amazon. DT 700/900 are $378. A $221 price difference might not be a lot to some people, but it's a lot to me. Completely disagree.
